Hi All,

Thanks for the support - good to know I'm not alone in my sleepless nights!
It would be a bit easier if DH wasn't working nights at the moment and was home during the night to help out - but thank goodness it is a short term contract.

The poo issue is slowly resolving (I think)! Jeremy had heaps of breast feeds today. About 5mls of diluted prune juice, a few bites of pureed apricot, and he played with his new sippie cup a bit so I think some of the water actually got in to him.

I too think he is teething but as such there are no visible signs of teeth. The gum sometimes feels swollen or bumpy but that is about it.

I don't know much about the amber necklaces but have heard lots of people in the forums speak of them - how do they work???

LilP, how did the prune juice go? We are yet to have that problem thank goodness - Bridie's been pretty regular since we started solids, when it changed from every day to every second day.

Sagres and Jasp, any more signs of teeth? DH felt the first bump last night and today there is a rough bit - but Bridie won't let me see in her mouth to check! :lol:
Haven't noticed any extra grumpiness as she's had a cold for the past week, snotty nose and cough, so I assumed her extra clinginess and wanting to BF lots was because of that.

This week she has also decided she doesn't like sitting. She is ok in her high chair where her feet are down, but she won't sit on her potty or the floor. Has anyone experienced anything like this? She's been sitting up by herself quite happily for a month, but now she's just not wanting to bend in the middle... and I have no idea why!:dunno:

Well we are facing some challenges with Alannah. Her heart defect has got to the stage where it needs to be operated on (in 3 weeks time). It is affecting her growth - she hasn't had any proper weight gains since January - and it is also making her tired and hungry a lot of the time, and as you can imagine a tired and hungry baby is not always the best company. Coupled with that the fact that we always seem to have a tooth 'on the way', we have had some pretty tough times. It makes me sad that so much of her short life (times we will never get back) has been marred by unhappiness but we have a plan of action and I am optimistic that things will get better after her operation and at the end of the day my little girl will be OK which is better than a lot of mummies have.

Developmentally we are going OK, we've got 5 teeth (2 in 2 days last week), she says mum and dad, puts her hand up in the air when we say 'hooray for Alannah' and she claps like a mad thing. The other day DH got her to clap at the right times when he was singing 'when you're happy and you know it'. It was so cute, she is so chuffed with herself when she gets it right! We don't have any crawling yet, she is more interested in standing up. I am constantly stopping her from trying to stand up in the bath and on her change table - good grief. I am not sure what is going to happen with walking/crawling after her op - it will be interesting to see. I think not having much energy is holding her back so we might be in for a sudden burst of mobility after she has recovered.

Eating is a BIG issue for us at the moment. She isn't interested in solids in any form - finger foods, pureed stuff on a spoon, regardless of who is holding the spoon, foods in any of the 3 million ways I've tried to feed her - all get rejected. We are seeing a speech pathologist to try and sort it out a bit, we seem to be making some progress but hasn't actually got her eating any more yet! I think in normal circumstances I wouldn't be as concerned, but as she can get a bit breathless and puffed from feeding from me or a bottle (due to her heart), eating solids would be soooooo much better for her.

Sagres, that sounds really tough :( I hope the operation goes well and Alannah recovers quickly.

Bridie's doing pretty well, just cut her third tooth after weeks of teething grumpiness... she is waking up so much more often now than when she was younger, but we are coping thanks to co-sleeping. (I read a marvellous book by Dr James McKenna on how to bedshare safely.) She can crawl really fast, and cruise round furniture. She loves standing up with the help of the baby gate (/a clothes airer/parent's hand/chair/whatever) and bouncing! She also loves to click her tongue... weird, but whatever! She eats her solids pretty well, sometimes eats more, sometimes less, but enough that I don't stress about it. And we are still breastfeeding - don't know how I would resettle her without it, sometimes :rolleyes:

I'm jealous that Alannah says 'mum' and 'dad'. B has just discovered how to say 'mamamama' but she says it all the time, so I don't think she means me.

Gotta go, she's crawling towards somewhere she shouldn't be...

DH is currently trying to settle Jeremy back to sleep so I have a few minutes to type out an update!
First, sorry to hear that Alannah has to have surgery - please keep us posted on how she goes when it is all finished and I hope and pray that everything will improve with her from that point forward.

Jeremy is doing really well.
He has five teeth with a sixth on its way.
He crawls everywhere and is REALLY fast now.
He loves to stand and cruises using furniture or the high chair.
He has started standing while only holding on with one hand so I keep thinking he MAY start walking significantly before his 1st birthday... DS#1 walked four days before his first.
He says "mama" quite a lot now and specifically to get my attention and we THINK he is also saying "dada" for daddy but we aren't as sure that it is intentional yet.
He waves and claps and thinks both activities are heaps of fun.

Eating is going well - he eats anything in sight (except for this past week because he has been really sick). Our biggest issue at the moment is that he prefers finger food to being fed by us.

Sleep is another issue and I am thankful for co-sleeping or I would be a bigger wreck then I already am.
Teething has been the main problem behind the sleeping and now he has a really horrible cold with a disgusting cough so he is sleeping even less.

We have sibling issues starting between the boys as well but I think we will get though ironed out as we go.

Generally speaking things are going well and I hope to keep in touch with everyone in here much better.

Glad to hear things are going well for most of you, Sagres :hug: I amsure everything will go well & she will be up & running before you know it :lol: Will be thinking of you & sending lots of healthy vibes.

We are well here, although Pie has another cold :angry: so I am going to try some Olive Leaf extract, see if we can boost her immune systm a bit.
She is crawling everywhere & getting into everything now, standing up & cruising the furniture. She can stand alone but will plop down if she wants to go somewhere. I a thinking she will be the latest walker of all my 4, the others walked at 9.5 and 10.5 months...she's not looking like it yet, which is interesting to me.
she is saying mamma and dadda but hard to say if there's any meaning in it yet...although someone said 'hello' to her today & she said what sound very much like 'hello' back! So the talking is coming along too.
She can also clap, and click her tongue, and wave bye-bye. It seems like every day there is someting new!
We have the two bottom teeth and I think the tops ones soon, they are bulging.
Sleep has gotten soooooo much better since we got the amber necklace! she still has 'bad' nights but tehy are like teh good ones used to be! Generally she is waking once through the night now, whioch is just fine :)

Who all in the group is using the amber teething necklace? What do you do and how does it work? Teething is a drama with my boys and anything more I can do to help would be WONDERFUL!!

We've had our necklace for a couple of months. They are made of Baltic Amber and the oils in the amber have pain-relieving qualities, so when it is worn against the skin you get the benfits of it.

Prior to getting the necklace, Pie was awake 3-5 times a night, more on a bad night, maybe twice on a good night.
After 24 hours with the necklace on,... she now wakes once a night, 2-3 times on a bad night. We had it off the other week for about 24 hours, forgot it after a bath & then the next day at FDC, she was so unsettled the following night! It will not be forgotten again :lol: So it seems for her it takes about 24 hours to kick in or wear off, and I'm convinced it works.
TBH I didn't think it would make such a big difference to her sleep, I figured she hasn't been teething for her entire life! but it definitely has .

we got ours online from AmberBebe $40 and it's free postage althoug I paid extra for it to come express :lol:

Wow, how our babies are progressing!!

Blake seems to be on par with everyone else - although he was born with the two teeth (quite the show off) he hasn't grown anymore since! Boys eh?

He has been crawling for months now, and has started standing with one hand for support for the last three weeks or so. He clicks his tongue, he can kiss on demand lol, claps, and waves too.

DD is also having a few jealousy issues from time to time - so I can hear ya lilP! But nothing major at all - she gets her special time as does Blake.

LilP - I've been using the Amber bebe teething necklace now (when DH listens and puts it on him) and I do notice minor changes in DS, even if it calms him down just a bit and settles him - so I'm a fan.

Oh my Sagres - I'm so so sorry to hear about Allanahs heart defect, that is so so scary. Big hugs hun!

Wow - soon all of our little ones will be ONE!!!

Well we are on the other side of the heart operation and things are going really well. I couldn't believe how well Alannah recovered from her operation - she was a real trooper! She was in ICU for the first night and by the next day we were begging them to get us onto a normal ward because she was sitting in her cot smiling and laughing, not very appropriate when surrounded by lots of very sick babies. We left hospital 2 days after the operation and that night she went crazy, soooo many laughs and smiles and commando crawling ALL OVER THE HOUSE! The change in her is amazing, it feels like we have had to get to know our girl all over again!

So other than the the mad commando crawling she has 9 teeth (2 molars), says mum, dad and moo (to her toy cow), does some pretty confident coffee table cruising and joins in with the sounds and actions to some nursery rhymes.

Hope all your babies are going well and you are preparing for all the first birthday celebrations!

Wow Sagres, that is fantastic news! I am so glad everything went well & what an awesome outcome! Speedy recovery too.. your little girl is a trooper :)
9 teeth...holy moly we have just cut the third!

We have had our first steps a few weeks ago and she is slowly gaining more confidence. She's not saying much atm, mum & dad but I don't know if it's attached to a particular person IYKWIM, and something that sounds a lot like 'hello' - not much else, nothing definite. She LOVES music & is starting to break out a few little wiggles & shakes, it's so cute. She likes her books too & has done her first drawings :D

I'm sooooo glad to hear how well your little princess has progressed since having that operation Sagres - and omg....how many chompers has she got already?? Thats amazing :-D

Fleur - oh wow, first steps - how cute....actually this is a real 'cute' baby age now isn't it? How well is pie saying mum and dad? Blake is good with mumumumumum and dadadadada - but thats about it thus far! Sounds like you have a little dancer on your hands too!

Blake still only has the two teeth he was born with, and he's been sleeping through again for about the last fortnight - I put his wake ups just prior down to a growth spurt. He is having a Wiggles themed birthday party and he loves to bob up and down to music - howz that? Dancing before he walks lol!

Anyone else got some fabulous birthday parties planned (perfect timing with all the toy sales on eh? hehehe)!

Leesa, it's pretty much just mumumum and dadadada here, too. And of course a lot more dadadaada :p

Not a real big party here, Panda has a dance comp on that day but my mum & sister & niece will be down, we'll do cake etc. I'm looking forward to it..can't believe how fast it has all gone!

I think every age Bridie has been is cute :) But yeah, watching her walk up and down the couch with a huge grin or crawl towards me saying 'mamama!' is particularly cute! We have just got a fifth tooth, and lots of wake-ups to go with it...urgh... but having top teeth is really helping her with eating solids. Bridie loves dancing to music too, and also likes me singing to her. She has gotten more interested in books in the past month or so, but still prefers turning the pages rather than looking at them! Her favourite things are still banging objects against other objects, the noisier the better, and taking things out of containers. Wish it was putting things IN - that would be helpful! But she did help me with the laundry the other day - she was taking pegs out of the peg basket, and I asked her to give me a peg and she did! Then she kept taking pegs out and offering them to me, so cute :)

Blake has FINALLY started walking, although its only a few steps at a time. Same age as when DD started walking. He's turned from Mr happy pants to Mr grumpy guts lol, and its hard to tell if teething has anything to do with it as he displays no usual symptoms like DD did. I think we're up to tooth number 7 or so (about time!). He really likes 'twinkle twinkle little star' and does the little finger wriggle when I sing twinkle twinkle. He isn't a fussy eater which is a damn good thing too!

How did everyones first birthday party celebrations go?

First birthday here was a quiet one, DD1 had a dance comp on plus Pie was sick - not the best day but we did have mum & my sister & neice here which was nice.

I think tooth 7 *might* be on the way, not sure, she's doing a lot of chewing though. They are coming through, slowly but surely :)

What else... we have progressed to climbing :rolleyes: and tantrums, and a few words starting to form. 'Good girl' is one we hear a bit, which is really cute, and a few general sounds like 'hello' and 'here you are' (like 'hee-yah') - not proper words but getting very close.

And tantrums!! She is most definitely starting to assert herself :lol:

How is everyone else?

We didn't have a first birthday party - we moved house instead! B is loving having a back yard to run around on grass. She has walking down pat now, and is saying a few consistent words - the most consistent is probably 'no', sadly! My favourite is 'boo'. She plays peekaboo with us but sometimes doesn't get it quite right - hands over mouth instead eyes, or 'ba-oo' comes out instead of 'boo', but it's soooo cute. Her favourite song is 'Incey Wincey Spider', and her favourite game is Take Things Out/Put Things Back. (So glad that she now enjoys the second part of this as well as the first...) She has just got teeth 7 and 8, one of which is a molar! It's huge! She has on and off days with food - today she mostly just played with her breakfast. But she's still breastfeeding on demand, so I'm not too worried about nutrition. Still co-sleeping, still not sleeping through, but we're doing ok. I'm just enjoying this age and the new things she comes up with every day.

Yes we are a quiet bunch! Our first birthday celebrations went well, Alannah had a blast and loved having everyone around to play with HER! She can be a bit timid with 'strangers' in the house and lots of noise but she took it all in her stride for her party and she was in her element.

Still no walking here, she has only been crawling properly (as in on all fours, not commando crawling) for a couple months. It is getting a bit silly though, when ever she wants to go somewhere she grabs whatever object she can find (her high chair, a toy, the washing hamper, anything really) and pushes that around to get from A to B - seems like it would be easier just to forget the random object and walk??

She has 12 teeth that I know of, another one may have appeared but it is too dangerous getting my fingers close enough to confirm that! She is saying a few different words now even though it takes a bit of interpretation from mum and dad to understand. The words we know about are mum, dad, moo, nan, book (ba), bath (ba) cat and ta, but I think she might have a couple others that we don't understand what she means yet.

Eating - somewhere around 14 months Alannah found her appetite, and oh my gosh she suddenly has hollow legs! She had been a totally dismal eater up until about 11 months, after her operation she started eating a lot better (no medical reason why that should be but some how if just made her eating better??) but still very small volumes, but now - we have created a monster! She had a sleep over at one of her friends house recently (while DH and I went to see Powderfinger) and my friend was texting me saying she couldn't believe how much food Alannah put away!

On a day to day basis she is well and truly recovered from her operation, but her weight has only just got back to a level that is somewhere near what is was before and her height is still waaaaay behind. She is gradually getting there but she is really still very much playing catch up which I think is contributing to the lack of walking, only so many one little body can do at once!

Good to hear all our little cherubs are going well, soon we will be celebrating their second Christmas!!

Well it has been quite some time since I wrote on here. I think my little girl was about 3 months old last chat. Sorry but life has been crazy with my 2 munchkins.

I hope you all enjoyed your little ones first birthdays! We certainly did.

We are getting ready for a big family Christmas this year. Can't wait for our little ones to open their presents. So exciting!

My question for discussion: how are all your kiddies going with talking? DD doesn't say a lot which is so different to our first who was putting 3 and 4 words together at this age. But she is a long way ahead of her brother in gross motor skills. Climbing all over the place. I often come down the stairs to see her sitting on the dinning table. Not up to anything much just sitting there in the middle of the table looking around. Cheeky girl.

We are heading to the Children's hospital at Westmead next month for some allergy testing on DD. Not looking forward to it but hoping it will give us some answers. She has been on Neocate due to assumed cows milk protein allergy since 10 weeks and now also reacts to soy products. Sooooo frustrating.

Looking forward to reading all about what your little ones are up to.

Pie isn't talking too much yet, much less than her sister & brothers were at her age. We are starting to get a few words now, we have Dad & Mum (although mum seems to refer to anything she wants :rolleyes:)& the latest word is Tiger (ti-da!) and dog. She does make a lot of sounds - she will 'shh' her toys to sleep, and roar like a lion / tiger / bear, woof like a dog, and trumpet like an elephant. I think she is saying bye & see ya & hello.
So maybe 6 or 7 altogether. Actually that's more than I though, lol.

We are having a fairly quiet Christmas, DH's father will be up from Tasmania so it will be lunch with him & his wife (DH's stepmother) & her family. We aren't overly looking forward to it but what can you do... it's the first Christmas he's been up, ever.

Yup, we are a quiet bunch.....or run off our feet I like to think :lol:!

Mister B isn't talking much at all compared to DD. He'll point at things and make a 'hazaa' kind of noise - oh hang on, does 'uh oh' count?? Lol! Last weekend he went for a wander down the street and was found having a look under one of our guests cars, parked two houses down!!!! DH didn't close the side gate and Mister B wandered past 15 adult guests and just strolled out! Is it horrible that I didn't even stress about it? The guests were freaked out, but I just took it in stride, it took about 36 hrs before the gravity of it 'hit' me and I lost it! So he's an adventurous little tike!!! And I guess i can add lucky to that description now too!! He's walking really well now too (as you can tell!). We bought a 'Roary the Racing car' single bed and I was concerned he'd keep getting out of it but so far I'm quite surprised - he's only come out for a wander once in three weeks. I wanted to get him into the bed so I didn't have to deal with that AND a newborn come next April.

As for Xmas Fleur, DH is working day shift so I'll pop over to my aunts and then host a dinner with DH, his mum and step father (over from Victoria), my dad and brother and the kids.

Alz - I hope you get some answers once the testing is done hun.

Fleur - I wish Mister B had your DD's vocab!!! I know it comes in time but I'd heard the 'oh the second child will pick it all up quicker as they copy the older child' line sooo many times - and nup, it didn't happen!!

Fleur - funny how you don't realise how many words they have until you start listing them. I am now realising that DD is talking more than I thought.

Leesa - oh my..... What a cheeky little one you have. I would have been stressed out of my head! Good thing he was ok. Can't believe that he walked past all those people and no-one stopped him or noticed. Big bed already?

As far as Christmas goes.... we are hosting lunch (something we have never done). We thought that we should make use of the pool while we have it. Next year we will be in our new place with no pool. I wanted to just do a bbq christmas, but my Mother informed me that we would be doing no such thing. So my response is ok, you can cook it! So I am in charge of desert which is nice. It will be quite a big gathering with my folks, bro and partner, sis, aunty, cousins, their kids and bro and sis in law. Should be fun though.

We are having a good day, after a shocker yesterday. Yesterday my hubby took my car keys to uni with him so I had to catch the bus into town to do some shopping. The kids had a ball. They had never been on a bus and it was suprisingly easy to get both kids, a stroller and the shopping on the bus. I was so cross with DH as I had promised DS that we would go to story time. Oh well we missed it but never mind.

Wow alz your first one was putting several words together at this age - that is really impressive! We are a long way short of that! DD has a few words - alot that she says when she is copying what we are saying and a few that she says unprompted, and yes, a few animal noises. Trying to think what they are....mum, dad, nanna, book (ba), bath (ba), ta, cake, cat, baa baa, duck, moo, bye, clap (she says clap when she claps - quirky!) hooray, tickle. I think that is all of them.
When Alannah was going to a speech pathologist (for eating issues, not speech) she asked what words Alannah was saying and said that at about 13 months just mum and dad and perhaps 1 or 2 others was fine. So yeah, very few words is fine at this stage.
And I think what you are saying about talking and motor skills is right, they seem to have their mind on one or the other and excel at that. Alannah is going fine with talking but isn't walking yet so she fits that rule also.

For christmas we are having a day this weekend with my family and then christmas day with DHs family, so we are not hosting anything. My family do is about 4 hours drive away and DHs family is about 2 hours away so travelling for both but not too far.

Fleur - the animal noises are very cute aren't they, we also get trumpeting elephants and fish that go 'moom moom moom' (that makes sense if you remember Ernie and Bert and their gold fish on Sesame Street).

Leesa - What a cheeky little one, and a bit sneaky also? Hope he is enjoying the car bed!

Leesa, what an adventurer you have! The car bed sounds very cute. I am thinking about a bed for Pie, she sends most of her time in our bed anyway and I am thinking if she had her own little bed I could put it up against the side of ours... maybe it would encourage her to be in it a bit more. I don't mind her being in with us, but she's a very restless sleeper & demands her space, so I spend a lot of the night getting kicked & pushed. It would be different if she would just cuddle up & sleep! but she doesn't seem to like cuddles in bad.

I forgot we also have 'yay' & 'uh-oh' - I was reminded last night when I was on the computer & she was whinging to be picked up. And I said 'hang on a second' wanting to finish what I was typing. So the little monkey just switched off the computer at the hard drive, then clapped her hands & said 'yay!' :rofl: teach me to keep her waiting :p

It has been sometime since I have been on here! My due date was this groups but I ended up have DD July 8th 09. I think my baby buddies group ended and I remember some of you so I thought I would join in :)

So it seems we have quite a few special little ones turning 2 soon! Any birthday party plans for anyone yet? We are just doing something small with close family and friends, and a special 3D cake (most likely Thomas the Tank!).

I'm a bit concerned about DS' speech though - how much are your LO's talking these days?

Yup, DS turned 2 at the end of July and he was spoilt rotten lol. Did u have a party or do something else special for the occasion?

I've been feeling a bit bad though as I've been (at times) a bit hard on him. I have been expecting too much from him, I keep forgetting he is only 2, because he plays with his older sister (3.5 years) so well and similarly (you could hardly pick they have a 16 month gap, in fact many people comment and ask if they are twins). I think I'm getting better now, with only DD1 it was easy to gauge where she was at developmentally. But I've been expecting things of him that DD1 is capable of, and that's not fair on the little guy.

Anyway, enough of that whinge lol!

Wow, and having another bundle too! DS is now a middle brother too. I had DD2 in April 2011 ;). You will have a great age gap there :)!
