Wow, that's wonderful news Rory!!! So very happy for you.
Maya - how was the trip? Ice-cream still good!!
 Congratulations Rory! I have heard of that trial and am hoping it continues indefinately due to it being a huge success! Can't wait to hear further updates and hope this one is sticky!!! :D
fantastic news Rory, big congratulations and hope this one sits tight
Julie xxx
congratulations Rory!! thats fantastic news, i hope all is continuing to go well andyour feeling ok
Bath nice avater i love it as i do all your creations!
well today was a big day for Nixon. He had a diagnostic assesment which we were waiting for 6months to get.
we got fantastic news that he does NOT have autism. He had Pervasie Developmental Disorder (PDD) which is basically when a child has several autistic traits but does not have Autism.
he has already been going to speech therapy and OT so will continue this but now we will have access to funding to help for it all. its going to make a big diff to our stress levels alone i have been looking for a p/t job for 4 wks just to try and cover all this expenses.
he did so well we are so proud of our big boy and they also beleive he is above average for intelectual intelligence and is a smart cookie!!
i hope everyone is well
thats great news Nic, what a smart cookie you have... that must be a huge weight of your shoulders... Good luck with your job search...
Rory how are things going, well I hope...
Maya, I have been looking at you photos on FB, what lovely places you have your eyes on...
leave for my melbounre get away next thursday, feeling very guilty for leaving the kids and BHL, silly I know but this is my first time away on my own sence having Zayden...
See? No time at all, Tali!! Not just got our eye on, the paperwork is being drawn up, and good thing too - the agent has been flooded with enquiries about the property and it's OURS, I tells ya, OURS!! Later this week I'll get to the pinching myself stage.
Nic - that is fantastic about Nix, what a load off! It's been a bit of a sage, hasn't it? I'm so happy for your whole family! I hope hte assistance comes through very soon xxx
Poor Oscar is at an age where he loves to play with bigger kids and doesn't realise when they're ganging up on him to show off their own newfound 'bigness'. We've got a few family friends now who's kids are starting school and DS ends up crying, not knowing what's just happened :( And he's so sweet with them - he's the handiest punching bag, though. He may be a rough bag but he really feels it when he goes in for a hug at the end of a play and gets pushed away. It's hard to watch your kid be lined up for a punch by a bigger kid and not yell out to the perpetrator! But I yelled anyway and got Oscar out of the situation. GF was trying to deal with the situation but had the angle of both of them having hit out...but one's 2 years older and bigger  And the other hasn't learned to punch...till now... Not only that, he'd been picked on in a very similar situation only hours before at playgroup, so Oscar copped the double whammy. Now that this kid has started school, I may pop around with Osc when GF only has her 2 yo with her, as they have a very cool kind of play dynamic now. Osc has learned about punching and guns with her eldest :(
Better go, he's getting up to hijinx now that T is asleep and I'm on here! I was just going out of my mind before with both of them yelling at me!
Nic - what wonderful news, you must all be very relieved. The funding will certainly help as I hear OT, speech therapy etc is quite expensive. Good luck on the job front. Well done to Nixon - sounds like you have a smart little boy on your hands.
Tali - don't feel guilty, you deserve this time away and you get to see your family. And it's only a few days? Your kids will have a ball with their dad - doing stuff that mum wouldn't normally let them do (well that's what happens in this house when I am not here lol!!!).
Maya - fingers crossed for you!!! The pics do look beautiful and I can see you all right at home there. It's not nice when big kids pick on little kids and you were right to help him out. Some parents have the attitude "boys will be boys" which is just crap - all kids need to learn how to play nicely whether they be boys or girls. Rough play is fine as long as it doesn't get out of hand. We still have to work out a meet up day, I haven't forgotten about it.
We have certainly been getting lots of pool time this week. I've been going in about 11pm each night to cool off before bed and its the best! Although being out in the dark, with DH at work, gives me the creeps sometimes. I put the pools lights on and every other light we have!!! Marley can now swim the 8 metre length of the pool with no floaty suit, just her undies! She is obsessed with swimming in her "underwears" as she calls it. They have put her up 2 classes at swimming so she is very happy to tell everyone she swims with the big kids now, even though there is only 1 other girl in her class and she is 4 :) Had to go back to dr's about my toes. They are just getting worse and more painful. No fungal infection in the nail was detected so they think its in the toe itself. I now have to see a surgeon in 2 weeks and will probably have to have an operation of some sort to fix them. I am a bit nervous about it but I will be so relieved to finally get them fixed. I am sick of living in pain with them and not being able to wear heels to work sucks!!!
Hope everyone else is going well.
Mel - I love it when he plays with girls! He loves it, too - it gives his brain another way of thinking, and it never hurts boys to play with girls and be in that headspace. He plays so much nicer with kids who are female and his own age and boys who are younger than boys his own age or older. Yeah, the 'boys will be boys' line about learning to punch and about how guns shoot is just bollix. Oscar still had the mark on his back from the punch as GF was helping him back into his clothes (punch on happened in their wading pool) and telling him that he needed to listen to when other kids say 'stop'...in effect saying that he asked for the punch by not listening to someone say 'no', even though she'd be horrified to think of it that way. I'm so glad I don't 'smack' him, cos I can say to him "Do I hit you? No? So don't hit other people, please" and have some credibility! Rant over. GF was also already feeling sensitive about some things that had happened during the week, so giving benefit of the doubt to her handling of it. No benefit of doubt to her DS, though, as he already has form in this area and he's been doing this for ages - he's just not a friendly kid like his little brother is. I feel sad to think this, because I've known him since he was born and at the stage where babies are warming up to those who are close to them he didn't warm up and he seems to lack empathy for those he doesn't consider his good friends. I blame cortisol levels - first child, CIO, weaned at 6 months out of 'convention' (she questioned that for her second) etc. At least the older kid at playgroup responded when I appealed to his sense of empathy and kindness!! Ah, well, can't control kids, can just fortify Oscar with skills in character judgment and rapport building :)
I loved night swimming when I lived with my parents at their old place! Our pool light broke in the early days, so I liked to have one floodlight pointing away from the pool and wading in the dark, under the towering gums. At night we didn't have the insects blanketing the pool, either, so it was particularly blissful! Dp is starting to realise how serious I am about factoring a pool into the aspect of the house we'll build and what I want the living area to open out onto...I wasn't kidding about it. We may only live 30 mins from the beach from there, but even the beach is not the same as a lovely, still, body of water to slip into and feel all dolphin-y in...! So funny about Marley - and great news that she doesn't have to rely on the floaties, she is right to feel proud of herself :)
Definitely still up for a catch up and will investigate kid-safe venues around here that are easily accessed by PT.
Both little people asleep, might think about bed now.
Marley loves playing with boys! Except when they won't share their stuff lol!!! She tells me every week at creche that this one boy won't let her in the cubby house. It's hilarious listening to her explaining it, usually with hands on hips! She can be a bit rough sometimes, which I always pull her up on. But when another child is rough to her, she gets so upset. I try to explain to her that is why she can't hurt other kids - gets through somedays but not others. Both my girls love younger kids. I wonder if its because they think they can teach them the "ways of the world", particularly if they are the oldest child. Empathy is such a hard emotion for them to understand, I don't think Marley has quite got it yet.
Ah, well, can't control kids, can just fortify Oscar with skills in character judgment and rapport building - that is so true and really important. And knowing when to just walk away, Chelsea worked that out in Prep. She wanted to play with one of her classmates, the girl said no, Chelsea said "ok, I'll go play with X" and walked off. Classmate ran after her and wanted to her play!!! It was such a great lesson for her to learn and it now doesn't bother her if someone doesn't want to play, she just finds someone who does!
I have this amazing pool magazine at home that DH got from the Pool & Spa show. It has a picture of a pool which is surrounded by rolling hills, its amazing. It has a negative edge and has black tiles around it and black tiles inside so you don't lose the effects of the view. Quite clever. I'll pull it out and keep it for you. Might convince DP to
get one. I hate the beach, yet love pool swimming. Let me know when you find somewhere for our catch up.
I've had the crappiest day today. I have been told by my boss that I have to relocate to Caulfield campus - NOT HAPPY JAN! I hate Caulfield, parking is atrocious, food is average and offices too small. I voiced my concerns to my boss but it appears they have made up their mind. My bigger boss hasn't emailed me yet, she will tomorrow and I am going to detail all the reasons why I don't wish to move.
1. Much further to drive and in worse traffice
2. Additonal cost for petrol
3. I will have to buy a permit for parking which is $320. Currently I don't pay for parking.
4. Dropping and picking up kids. As it will take me longer to get to work, I will have to start earlier but can't drop kids off any earlier than 7.30am (School care doesn't open till 7.30) and would have to try and leave earlier to make it home in time.
It just sucks big time!!! I love where I am. I get lots of work done because our floor is relatively quiet. The staff here are lovely, food is delicious, parking is free and I love my office! Am I being unreasonable?????
I don't have to move until June at the latest. My boss is begging me not to leave but I will be keeping my options open. If I have until June, it gives me time to check out other options within the Uni or here at the hospital. It's put me in a crappy mood and I'm so glad to be going out with my GF's tonight - I'll need a few drinks and a good whinge!!!
Sorry for the vent girls!!
Mel you sound very reasonable and your reasons look very valid to me.. if they make you go you should get them to pay for parking and the extra it will cost you in petrol and childcare cost... I hope you get to stay where your happy...
Maya thats good new on you property, def get a pool, there is a great outdoor mag call the outside room I think, ( I have looked though it while kids where doing bunning craft its a good way to get a free look at a dream ) in it they had a pool coming right of the patio OMG it was to die for , it looked so lovely... I agree there is a huge difference with pool swimming and beach for one beach can be COLD almost all year while pools can be heated so used in winter too... plus beach has nasty things that can bite...
Mel, that really does suck :( Caulfield is only not awkward if you're coming in from the south! Traffic is awful- can never leave early enough to get to an exam on time, no matter what time of day from here and Eastlink doesn't make it easier. I hope you can stay within Monash! How about a nice office in Churchill?? Yeah, trying to teach Osc to walk away and leave the perpetrator to their own devices - been doing that since he was littler. He had such a nice play next door...till the storm kicked in! I knew he'd ask for me, but that he'd be marooned until the rain cleared for the neighbour to bring him back...I was right. Haven't had a chance for investigations today. There's a place I can think of for catching up - FTG library has a cafe and there's a playground next door. The 'problem' with the hills is that most eateries are open all weekend long for tourists and take Mondays off. Bus from FTG train station would stop very close to the library :) Oscar is hanging out to play with Marley The People (cos the neighbour's dog is Marley The Dog). Yes please, on the mag! I reckon while we have an excavator out to level out the house site we dig a big pool hole...why not? We don't even need a permit, just to make sure we've got the fences, I'm pretty sure.
GTF - you're so funny, you've been in QLD too long - what nasty things that bite in our beaches???
Bath - how's Wade doing? Does Niall miss kicking around with his brother?
Ok let's have a vent fest!!! :wall: My afternoon went totally pear shaped at 3.15pm today... I dropped my iphone, the screen smashed and then I got caught in that huge down-pour with Niall who was thoroughly delighted and aimed and ran through at every puddle so we arrived home wetter than if we had simply chosen to stand in a shower. I thought we had a nil excess insurance policy but that's all changed and I just learned that we have to pay the first $250 which i think is very excessive!
But really all that pales compared to your sitch Mel! oh you must be devestated!
Wade is good... skinny but with healed lungs. I should be happy, life is generally great until everything suddenly falls in a heap.
Meetup: the trickiest thing is getting back here by 3.30pm... I think I'll just come by myself... so almost any day is good (Tue - Fri). But I sooo want to meet Miss T while she is still in her newborn state Maya!
Tali: yes time did fly!!! how long will you be down for again?
Can't hear myself type... all 3 kids in loud mode. DH is about to walk into total chaos... oh and bad news about my phone that he only bought me at Christmas... :hide: "help!"
Oh, no!!! If it makes you feel any better, I had one phone run over after it fell out of my Ergo and I didn't notice till I remembered where I bent down, and my other phone lost a lot of functions after Osc peed on it!
Well, is Wed ok, then for Belgrave? Or should we convene at your place or nearby?
How about Doncaster Shopping Town? I feel bad getting you to drive all the way over here... is that about halfway? I need to have a look at a Melway. The Smart Bus goes direct from Heidelberg to DST. Or I could even go further to Box Hill? I would LOVE to come up to Belgrave but getting back for Wade's school dismissal will mean a very brief trip... after Wade i have to drop Niall at kinder too... I will be able to leave Ivanhoe at about 9.30am at the earliest. ETA: ahh, if it's a Mon I'll have Niall with me of course.
I'm cool with going all the way ;) But I'm just a floozy like that, he he! Doncaster's probably more painful to get to, actually - no straight road from this way.
ROFL :D Maya! Or there is the city option as we have done so many times before... Melbourne Central so there is the possibility of Miss T sleeping on the train and making it a more relaxing trip for you? How would this work for you Mel? It would have to be a Monday hey?
DH has taken my iphone into the city and is going to ask the friendly folk at the 3 store what our options are... DH thinks it's a part of the plan that we get 1 handset replacement due to damage over the course of the 2 year contract! If that's the case I'll be totally thrilled! :crossfingers:
Hey girls - hope all is well. Mel that sucks about having to more :(
I had a dating scan today - 6w2d with a HB of 121. EDD will be 6 October.
And I am on the list (fingers crossed) for a HB with the Sunshine Hossy trial :)
