Well hamish had a much better night last night thank god. I used to change his nappy before feeds but now stop half way thru burp then change him. Sometimes it works other times it doesn't! But oh well. I told my mum what happened and she said I need to start giving him farex rice cereal. I thought I don't think so. He is only 10 weeks old for goodness sake. Far too young IMO! I think it was a growth spurt.

Meercat - I hope u feel better soon. It's scary stuff passing clots. I still don't know what mine was but I stopped bleeding a couple of days after I passed it. I don't know what contractions feel like but I am guessing that the pain I got for a week before it came out would have felt like them! Extremely painful they were.

B- I was told that the gold formulas just have omega 3 in them and it's not that necessary for baby to have them. They still get them in other ways but it's just a ploy for companies to sell their products. That came from the midwife who did our antenatal class.

I had visitors constantly including nieces and I found that Matilda would just go feral with the extra stimulation so don't know how you multiple mum's are going? My hat is off to you.

Misssawah - hope you find a house soon and that the move goes well. I would take your look to the internet, if you havent' already. Nothing worse than getting them in and out of prams and stuff all day.

Beata and B I am alternating between S26 gold and original and both seem to have the same affect,the clinic nurse said the gold really doesn't make any difference and cheaper stuff will prob do the same, but I think I will just stick with both of these for now, just cause I know they seem to be doing the job.

Krisvee - Matilda is unsettled in the evening. I thought it was wind for the first few days and it really up set me seeing her like that, but then my sister said the leg thing is a sign of being overtired too, so now I know the difference it is so much easier, learning new things each day. How can you tell the difference between a smile and wind? I'm still learning? when do they smile from usually?

Oh, can I tell everyone about this product my sister put me on, as Matilda was a little blocked up in the nose and that is all I could here, It is called Fess LittleNoes and you put two saline drops up there nose for a minute, then there is a sucker that sucks the snot out! It is brillant. You get it from the chemist. I think it is the change in weather that sort of did it to her.

31becc - they usually start to smile from around 5 weeks onwards. u will be able to tell the difference when it happens. its more gummy and cute!!

Bec - Yeah we could tell Tiah was actually smiling, she opens up her mouth and her whole face lights up! The wind ones seem to be more to one side if that makes sense?

B, it's so good when you actually find a formula that the bub likes. I was going to try the Nan Pro Gold today since my Nan H.A Gold is just running out, but the lady at the chemist said the Pro Gold formula is heavier than the H.A so I think I'll just stick to the one I have now. I don't think I want to try anything heavier now, in case it gives my wee man more wind/constipation.

Missawah, Harri sounds so advanced with all the little things that he does!! He sounds like a clever little man :D I think I saw Cameron smile at me today but I'm not sure, it was from corner to corner not just one corner lifting up, so I think it was a smile. I got super excited!

Meercat, I had to laugh when you said you are on edge when Tiah goes to burp, I also get the same, sometimes the burp is followed by a wee spew ;) always prepared with the cloth nappy over his front or over my shoulder when I burp the wee man.

Teresa, that would be right that the Gold formulas are not that different! You get so many different opinions these days, I just try each one and see which one agrees with him. Certain ones do seem to give him more wind and tummy pain though...

Becc, the S26 formulas weren't too bad, but I find the Nestle Nan one is slightly better AND fills my wee man up a bit more. The chemist told me that the Nan formula is the closest to breast milk....I wonder if that was his selling point????;)

Hi Krisvee, Mel, Jallymaker, Miamunchkin, hope you bubs are behaving!

AFM, Cameron is up to his old tricks with refusing to get any decent sort of sleep during the day, which mkes him wee unsettled in the evenings again. I take him out in his pram in the late afternoons, but find that he drops off for about 10-15 minutes and is screaming as we pull into the driveway. My neighbours have commented the other day that they are starting to hear him now (after they complained that they didn't hear him at all for the past 5 weeks!). I also find that since he uses a dummy to sooth himself, he cries every few minutes when it falls out. Can I use anything to tie it to his face???????????? lol.

I think I'm going off to bed, ever since DF started doing the last feed about 10.30-11 pm, I get a bit of that blissfull thung called 'sleep' until 2-3 am when I go to bed around 9-30-10.

Girls, a wee question...... for those with the avatars, have you asked for it to be changed so we have our bubs in there instead of our bellies??? I've sent an email to bellybelly, but no one has relpied to me yet......

Also, is anyone missing their preggy belly?????????? And our old belly buddies thread????? Gee, I think I'm feeling very emotional today.

Beata, that was super duper cute! and yes I miss my belly. I miss the kicks and I miss knowing that it didn't matter where I went Harri was right there safe in my tummy.

Just a quick post from me and will catch up on personals later.

Harrison is still struggling with breast feeding. I start to think he's getting it but the next feed he's back to the usual. He's still distracted by every tiny little thing even when I shut myself away and make the room as dark as I can, he pulls himself off and gets cranky. So tonight I gave him a bottle of formula (the karicare gold stuff) it's like he's a totally different baby. After he had it (and he scoffed it down within 10 mins) he actually sat quite contently in his bouncer and made cute little noises and was flicking the toy turtle on it. He even refused his dummy. I am dissappointed in myself for not being able to BF as I had planned (wanted to feed him until he was 6 months at least) but I have to think if he's happy then I'm happy, that's the main thing. Crying everyday and stressing out was only doing wrong by him and if all its going to take to make him a happier baby is changing to formula then that's what I'm going to do...I'm going to express for the next couple of weeks and build up a supply to freeze for him so he has that bit longer on the breast milk and have that in conjunction with the formula. For my own peace of mind I need to remember that I did try and I was able to give him a solid month of breast milk (for the record I'm not against formula feeding there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, I just had my heart set on BF).

sorry for the rant...it was my Mum's 50th birthday today and for some reason it as only after talking to her and her saying I'm not failing him etc that I feel good about my decision, even though I've had everyone else saying the same thing. Strange how that works.

Has anyone dtd yet?? Dh is starting to nag so I'm thinking of getting it over and done with soon - LOL!! I feel ok - not sore or anything but I always feel like everythings not quite right after having a baby...takes a while for everything to seem to go back in to place...sorry if it's tmi!!

Missawah - u did a great job and should be proud of yourself. It really is a tough decision and not one u made lightly either.

Just a quick post - krisvee, we have dtd a couple of times, first at 3 weeks, hurt a little bit but it's getting better! Don't do anything until you feel up to it though!

I was hoping I could join this group as the other baby buddies group is a bit quiet and I miss all my belly buddies! :D I've read through a lot of the posts and especially the earlier ones - I can really identify with, cause I'm a bit behind everyone else.

Well Angus settled in well at home and we have some bad days, but mostly he feeds every 3 - 3.5 hours. When I left hospital, they had just put him on formula top ups as the paediatrician said he was dehydrated and my milk hadn't come in. Since it came in on about day 4, he has been feeding really well (actually guzzling) and on Day 12 he had put on 300g from his birth weight (which was 4.01 kg).

Has anyone got a sleep routine? I was watching the Raising Children DVD with Dave Hughes and it said how you need to establish a sleep routine from Day 1 and you should put the baby down drowsy so that they learn to self settle. Well up until then I always put Angus to bed when he was sound asleep and would hold/rock/pat him in my arm until then. But I have been working on some sleep associations such as patting and playing music, but I still put him to bed when he is pretty much asleep. :redface: I've read that up until the age of about 9 months they don't realise the consequence of things, for example, they don't associate crying with getting a cuddle. So I may as well enjoy more cuddles from him - otherwise I just feel like a moo cow.

DH has until mid July off work which is great (I think). The first few days he was taking over a bit, but after me having a few hissy fits, he seems to have learnt :D Also, sometimes I just can't deal with it anymore (the crying) and just hand Angus to him. DH does the baths and changes most of the dirty nappies which is really good, especially during the middle of the night, oh and luckily he keeps on top of the washing or no bod would have anything to wear! Not sure who it was, but someone in the earlier posts said they expressed so their DH could feed once a day. That's a really nice idea! :)

Missawah, that's what I miss the most, the cute little kicks and having that bump there ;) I know I was over it in the end with not being able to sleep well, yada yada yada...but I actually get jealous when I see preggy bellies and my SIL has announced she's 6 weeks pg last week, and I'm like, I want to be as well!!!!!!!!!! Silly, I know! Sweetie, I planned to b/f for at least 3 months, 6 if I could, but my plan went out the window too. I b/f for 2 weeks. I know that's sooooo short, but I felt so much better (and especially Cam) going to formula. So you have done a sterlling job hun, always be very pround of that! Big hugs!

Krisvee, lol, I knew that question would pop up eventually! ha ha. We tried 2 weeks ago, (I was the initiator :redface:) but things didn't go to plan :redface: Soooooooo, we tried again last weekend and it was not bad!! Mind you, I didn't have a natural birth, but even after I had my myomectomy operation last year (very similar to a c/s) my poonanie froze up for 5 to 6 weeks I think.....maybe even longer, but I know it wasn't that soon after the op! It's amazing how your brain just knows it's too soon.....

Teresa, I'm glad we took a couple of pics with me on the hossy bed on the day of my op. with my huge belly, I forget how big it was!!

Mum2BXX, we sort of have a routine....I feed Cam every 3 to 4 hours, sometimes he goes 5 hours between feeds. We pretty much give him his last feed between 10 and 11 pm, and I get up once during the night and then up around 6 am for another feed (I consider this one a night feed too ;) ). Every second day we give him a bath and then a feed and he tends to sleep longer after his bath....mind you he hates them so we don't give him a bath every night.

Well, off to the shops to get some bits and pieces, hi to all my other lovely friends and I'll catch up with everyone soon.

Welcome Charly's mum and hello again M2bxx, your totally welcome here as its just like old times.

Missawah- i thought it would take a really long time to get used to not being pregnant but the next day i felt back to normal and didnt feel weird without my belly, but yes i do miss having Adrian inside me with all the little kicks and squiggles, also (i hate to say it) the attention was on me and now its all on Adrian :( a little selfish I know:redface: but it felt nice to be pampered :) Also, don't feel bad if you stop b/f as you've done the best and if you and Harri are happier then why wouldnt you change? I'm may have to change soon as my milk seems to be getting less and less despite my efforts, just have to wait and see....

Krisvee- DH and i haven't DTD yet as my 3rd degree tear is making us both apprehensive and im waitng for the OK from my OB. Everything downstairs feels fairly normal but who knows? Plus (TMI warning) DH is .....endowed....so its making me a bit iffy. I want to though, not so much because im horny (tho a little bit) but because i miss getting close to my DH and it was such a good and special part of our relationship and i feel like something is missing without it. I just hope that he will want to and not be put off by birth flashbacks etc, also, what if im naked and my breasts start leaking???? :redface: I'm probably over thinking it and psyching myself out about it. Fingers crossed.

M2bxx- I dont have a specific routine with Adrian, i swap from letting him fall asleep on the boob or in my arms to putting him down when he is drowsy and he still goes to sleep so whateva works. I think a sleep routine at this age can be more stressful for parents as if baby doesn't want to play by your rules it can make you feel like your not doing it right. I just go with the flow and listen to Adrians cues. HTH Also, wow for DH having so long off work! My DH nearly cried the day he had to go back so your lucky to have the extra help.

AFM things are good. Adrian is still eating heaps and i keep running out of milk. I feel bad that i can't give him what he needs but at the same time formula can give us both a break. I always put him on the boob first and only top him up with formula if he is still hungry so he is still getting some good BM hopefully. Question....Adrian still likes being wrapped up tight to sleep, so does anyone know when you should stop wrapping babies? I don't want to hinder any development but he still likes being wrapped up so??? Any comments?

Let's see how I go - bubs is due to wake up any minute - last feed was just before 4pm!!
He had a pretty unsettled day though...has taken to cat napping and being pretty windy...He had a great bit of tummy time today...his head seems to be getting quite a bit stronger although he's not too fussed on it all! Dh said he got another little smile tonight after he woke up! They're not happening all the time but about once a day or so...I had a rotten night last night and couldn't get him very settled so I just brought him into bed with me so at least I could snooze!
When in doubt get booby out! LOL!

Jellymaker - I don't blame you for waiting given your tear!! LOL on milk leaking...l wore a bra with breast pads while dtd for the early days...I just couldn't risk it because I leaked sooo much! So romantic - LOL!
In regards to wrapping, I always wrap for about 2-3months if not longer! Then I gradually loosen it off...As they have longer and longer awake I find they have plenty of time being unwrapped. I always take it off as soon as he wakes and then he feeds and has awake time without it and then keep him wrapped overnight so he knows the difference! I guess it depends on what your baby likes!

Beata - Well, I guess you guys trying 2 weeks ago is the stage I'm at now...not quite sure it will happen for us yet either but we'll see over the weekend and if kids will allow it! LOL!
I have emailed to get my avatar updated as well - generally you will get a surprise one day with it done...it can take a while though!
As for missing my p/g tummy...not this time so much! I just really haven't had time too! LOL! I remember after the first 2 I missed it sooo much! But I always knew I was going back for more babies whereas this time I'm done!!

Hmmm...sleep routine - not at all...I tend to have unsettled babies and they've never just fallen alseep on their own...I cuddle and rock to sleep - seriously, it won't last forever...usually by about 6 months my bubs put themselves to sleep for naps and nighttime so I'm happy to do whatever up until about that stage...My boys all sleep well now so I really don't think it has any long term effects as long as you teach them when you think the time is right (for them and you!)
Wowee on your husband having so much time off - That's fantastic! And for him being so helpful at home - make the most of it!!

Hi everyone, and thanks for your nice words. I feel good about my decision today and Harri has had a great day, lots of smiles and flicking is turtle, he loves that thing lol.

He's having a marathon sleep at the moment, fell asleep all by himself about 6:30ish and is still going! I have to admit I'm a little worried about him getting constipated on the formula but we'll see how it goes. I went to the IMPS clinic today (Infant something and parenting something)...what a big waste of time. The woman didn't tell me anything I didn't already know and made me feel so guilty and so bad about even suggesting he go onto formula. She weighed and measured him and he's grown 4cms! so he's up to 55cms, and according to her scales he's at 3.9kg (even though when my midwife weighed him he was 4.1kg, nothing like different scales to make you panic).

To celebrate feeling good and making an independent decision on how my son was going to be fed, I had a beer while DP gave him his bottle, and I felt great.

Mum2B, lucky you with DH having so long off work...not that I can talk my DP works nights so he's around during the days which is a huge pressure off as he can help out then and keep DSD occupied. Glad your little fella is doing so well too :)

Jelly, I know what you mean about the pampering etc...My SIL told my DP he should be getting me a 'push present' because once baby was born all the attention would be on him and I'd still need to be made felt special...I'm still waiting hahaha :P Good luck with your supply I hope it ups some more for you :)

B, I'm glad I'm not the only one with stitches still healing, I was told after 10 days they shold have fallen out, but they're still there I think I've lost maybe 2.

I've had a rotten day with Jayden...he's catnapped all day and been unsettled and lots of little sickies...I'm hoping he sleeps ok tonight or I'll be wrecked!! He's such a gorgeous little monkey though...I've had nice cuddles with him which is ok because dh was home but normally it's hard to do that with the 3 other little ones running around! He was screaming earlier and dh gave him a bath and it settled him quite a bit actually...
and...we dtd...it was ok...I was so stressed out about it but it was fine...a little tender but that's to be expected!!
Anyway...I'm off to do a few things and crawl into bed...hope your all enjoying your weekends!!

Missawah, good on you for celebrating with a beer!! That's my girl! Honestly, I wouldn't worry about those silly maternal health nurses and their almighty pressure of feeding bubs with b/m. I know b/m is best, I know that's why God gave us boobies (well mostly for that! lol) but some women can do it easily, some not so easily and others not at all. I would honestly have kept going if I had a good supply and Cameron wasn't so whingey attaching, flat nipples, etc etc. He is just so much more content on formula. I am going to come clean with my health nurse on Tuesday, I really don't care what she says. If she gives me a hard time I will ask for another nurse ans then kick her butt as I leave.
As for the constipation hun, try giving Harri sdome room temperature boiled water (you can add a teaspoon of raw sugar to about 100ml) the health nurse told me that this helps with poos and constipation. Be careful not to give him too much especially just before a feed as it will fill up his stomach too much.

Jelly, I wish I continued to swaddle wrap Cameron.....I gave up after two weeks b/c he likes his arms to be free. The problem is, b/c little babies have those jerky reflexes, he constantly wakes himself up when his arms go flying about. And he usually smacks himself right in the face. So for the last couple of nights I have wrapped him up, and he has grizzled about it, but I might just keep going. They have a much more restful sleep all wrapped up I think.

Krisvee, hooray for DTD without too much hassle!! I really felt like I was becoming a stranger to my DF when we had that loooooooong dry spell, you know, it's all about the baby now!! It just feels like we're getting back some normality ;)
Speaking about rotten days....I've had one too with my wee man, he has just fallen asleep at 9.30 pm!!!!!!!! Cat napped all day :wall:

b, we went out yesterday minus the little guy, it felt good to be able to shop without hassle and quickly. Luckily Grandma doesn't mind the babysitting! Today we took him with us, I was very proud of myself to have used the parents room for the first time AND fed him his bottle in the shopping centre! It wasn't as daunting as I though it would be...

My wee guy did the stinkiest poo about an hour ago, I'm begining to think maybe he had an upset tummy as he was so unsettled today. I'm also worried about the shape of his head, he still preffers to lie his head on the right side, and I think that side is a bit flatter than the left.....might have to mention this to the MCHN next week. Also, he's been feeding so funny lately, more often and not finishing his bottle at all (taking sometimes 80 ml instead of his normal 130-140 ml). Do you guys think it's a growth spurt? He'll be 6 weeks on Tuesday.

I'm off to bed now, hopefully he'll sleep well overnight.
