Jandals we have tried so many times:shakehead: we wish she would take one but she just wont do it... i know she would benefit from it ,she would love it , we hold it in her mouth she will gag spit it out only a few times she has started sucking on it only while we hold it there for her lol.
We have tried somany different ones we well ...
I want a chest freezer!!!!
Anyone else had this problem, baby sleeps great during the day when you are awake and then is awake at night when you want to sleep? It is torture, it was driving me around the twist and there was lots of tears, that was my Saturday night, I was awake for almost 24 hrs. I've decided I now like weekdays best, at least I can get a nap in the arvo whilst DD is at school, on the weekend it is so chaotic with everyone home, so noisy.
Gotta go feed the little man.
Same here QB. I was up every hour last night until 4am when he just didn't go back to sleep yet he had slept well all day and evening until midnight :wall: I'm so tired I just want to curl up in the foetal position and cry. To top it all off DD is sick and will probably have to stay home preschool tomorrow.
Any words of wisdom on getting some good stints of sleep over night?
we have had some bad nights, where she will not settle unless on our shoulders,she will scream etc..
the last few weeks we have had mostly good nights where she will wake every 2 half hours for a feed but settle straight back to sleep again which has been great although we also have bad nights as well
On those bad nights now i put Hannah is the carrier/sling and walk around the house once she has settled which she always does in the sling,i prop myself up on the lounge and doze she is safe in there 100% so its ok for me to doze off.
We found that taking her in the car helped , we have a capsule that u take in and out of the car, so when we bring her back in we can lerave her in it to stay asleep,car always sends her to dream land as well
those nights where they dont sleep untill early morning are complete killers

Questions - what types of slings do people have?? I have baby bjorn but wondering if a sling good too!
Also - anyone using an electric swing?
Lastly - how long is taking you to settle your bubs when they wake for a feed at night? Soph is taking 45-60mins to feed and settle (that is when I give up and put her in bed with me - last night she slept with me from 2am as I can get back to sleep quicker)...any tricks to make it a quicker process???
Last night Soph went to sleep at 7.30am (miracle - not 10pm!!)...then woke at 10pm, 2am and 5.30am...not too bad. She settled well at 10.45pm in her basinett but at 2am I gave up and put her in with me. I have been up since 5.30am as toddler got up at 6am and Soph hadn't settled yet.
Soph has basically been catnapping in the day - sleeping for 30 mins every hour or so...my son was a catnapper and I was hoping Soph would be a better sleeper...Anyone else got a catnapper?
Cass - You are so clever making your own sling...I wouldn't know where to start!! Glad it settled Robert.

Jandals - My own way to get sleep at night is co-sleeping at the minute!!
Shell - Soph won't take dummy either.
QB - Soph was doing the sleep all day thing too - until about 1 week ago.
Tobi usually takes 45min - 1 hour to feed, burp, change and settle back to sleep and that is on a bottle (which should be faster than breastfeeding). Having said that I read somewhere when bottle feeding it shouldn't take them less than 20mins to drink the bottle otherwise the flow is too fast.:
M2W i have a close carrier , its great easy to put on slip over your head and tighten ,hannah falls asleep straight away..
WE just borrowerd a swing froma friend its fisher price ocean one and it plays music has lights and toys ,it awings front to back or side to side,we put Hannah in side to side she lovessssssss it and then falls asleep in it every time,it calms her down
settling to sleep, last few weeks most of the nights she falls on the boob then put her in cot and she goes straight back to sleep, some nights it takes a lot of walking her around to get her settled
Hannah takes about 10 -15 mins to feed lol, and then she is asleep she burps and she is down
i think having the infacol (sp) ? helps with not needing to burp for to long as well, i love the stuff,thanks M2W :)

Hannah cat naps but has a 1-2 hour sleep in the morning and same in the afternoon,so normally 2-3 big sleeps during the day

Wow you poor ladies. I almost feel guilty as Peppar is fantastic.
She sleeps, she feeds, she plays talks and smiles to us, she grizzles and with a bit comfort goes back to bed. ;)
Dont shoot me but she is sleeping from about 10pm till just after 4am and I even got a 5am yesterday morning. A quick 15min feed and its back to sleep till anywhere after 7am.
I certainly got lucky this time but it only took five times to get there!!
Now if I could get the toddler sorted life would be a piece of cake!
Scout is constantly sick at the moment and has missed so many daycare days its such a waste of money.
I am obviously a rare breed who chooses to keep their sick child home. I dont know why I bother as nobody else does! Raaahhhh I get him healthy and he comes home clogged up again.
I have just bought him some Blackmores daycare defence. Its supposed to help ward off bugs. Its a sachet you can mix in juice or milk or sprinkle on cereal so you dont have to try and get pills into them. Will let you know how it turns out :crossfingers:
M2W We have an electric swing which Peppar loves. We hired it so I only have it for another few weeks but its a great baby sitter while I am trying to do dinner. She usually crashes out in it straight away.
We also have a hug a bub sling. This is awesome as well as you really are hands free and she is so supported in it. DH loves to wear her in this which is good for me as she cant smell me and think its feed time.
Shell we tried with the dummy too and she wouldnt have a bar of it.
Thrilled give your self a break hun this baby business is bloody hard going. But as others have said it doesnt last and the good will soon outweigh the bad and before you know it it is all a distant memory and you are wanting to do it again.:wall:
I already am hating the fact this is the last time I get to do this and I have 5 of them now! Im just a sucker for punishment I think.
Cass how clever are you? What style did you make?
QB I FF my first son and to look at him now a 13 yr old nearly 6ft tall lanky hairy lipped critter I certainly dont think he suffered for it. :D DO NOT feel guilty at all you have no reason too. Peppar was in hospital with high temperatures and then she got a cough cold so BF babies get their fair share of the germs too.
Jandals yay on the freezer. You were wanting one for a while. Now to find time for the all day cook up to fill it. Ours is empty again so I have to find the time too, difference been I have to buy a whole cow to fill up ours!!:lol:
Deedles hows Lennox? A baby is certainly so much harder with a toddler to entertain. I love and look forward to the daycare days too I just gotta get him healthy first. :o

Lou Ihope Sophie has recovered from her hospital visit. Peppar had to have two lumbar punctures as the first one was a bloody tap.(blood in the spinal fluid) She will never know let alone remember she had them but I am permantly scarred I think.

SQUID its Squidipa how are you and Chakotay getting on? I see he is putting on weight well so obviously you have the right recipe
Well I have reached the end of my mammouth post but if I can offer any advice from a - tried and made many mistakes but came out the other side ok, seasoned mother it would be relax. I know its very hard sometimes but this part will be all be a blur soon as the grow so fast and they dont stay babies for anywhere near long enough.
Hi Stacey, the sling I made is just the one piece - it's the same as the peanut shell sling, although without the $80 price tag!
Great to hear from you and that you and Peppar are doing well. Robert is sleeping okay now too. The last few nights have been pretty good. He wakes up a couple of time throughout the night then early morning. The first and second wake up are pretty close and I think it's because of the early morning coldness that he wakes up again. After his first feed tonight I'm going to put another layer on him - it's far too warm to do that when he first goes to bed - to see if he will sleep that bit longer between feeds. I know that I'll reach down and pull up the doona for extra warmth so it's worth a shot.
Better run, hear the little man in question calling me!:D
What Robert did at the library today.....
He was happy enough to lay in his pram and goo and gaa while I was looking through the shelves when this toddler started crying, really loudly. He didn't like that at all. His little forehead crumpled up and his bottom lip trembled and he started crying - like real crying. Not the hungry/tired/wet cry he normally has but a real upset one. It was so sad. I picked him up and cuddled him and everytime the other baby started up again so did he. Poor wee thing.

This is the worst part of the night. Robert settles great at 11 - after his feed he goes straight back to sleep in his cot. He usually resettles himself. The 2am feed is totally different. He has a feed, seems to be nodding off to sleepy land then HE FILLS HIS NAPPY and I mean big time fill. So I change him, put him back on the breast. But by now he thinks it's morning time so he wants to stay awake...argh!!!
I borrowed a book at the library yesterday called Babybliss by Jo Ryan. So far it's a great book - think I might have to buy my own copy. Anyway, I'm trying a couple of resettling techniques and rather than go back to bed (which makes me feel worse) I thought it would be better to get up until he goes back to sleep (in the vein hope that someone else is on bellybelly). He's been awake for well over an hour now but I shall perservere.

Cass once we put Hannah back to bed, one of us always stays up and watchs tv or reads/internet etc untill she is in a dream sleep, its so much harder like you said to get yourself back up again to look after her when u have just started to doze off

I am now up to date! Yes, we survived the first day without DH quite well. Ciaran was his usual happy self, and i just put him in the Bjorn and did some pottering around the house in the morning. He is usually asleep within 5 mins of being in the Bjorn!
I did some washing and tidying, and thought i would get the floors vacuumed, but didnt quite achieve that one. But overall it was a low stress day so im happy, and the little man was happy. DH said he missed us sooo much - after 6wks at home he was devastated leaving his new family to go to work. So sad for daddys... but sadly necessary i guess.
Re baby bouncers - my MIL bought us one and Ciaran loves it. He also makes cute sounds, kicks, giggles and has a merry old time when put in it during his awake time. I usually play with him but use the bouncer when i need to cook or feed myself. Its also a godsend when he is having a needy day and I need to put him down for a few mins.
Re slings - I borrowed a Hug-a-bub but didnt like it much as he slowly slid down, maybe it wasnt on tight enough? LOVE the Bjorn though - I walk him in it, go shopping in it, and vaccum at home in it!
Re sleeping - Ciaran goes thru stages/ days of only sleeping on me - and wakes when i put him down, but it seems to cycle with him.
He has been a great night sleeper from the start and typically sleeps from 7/8pm to 5.30/6am with a few feeds in between, then with a top up feed will often sleep another hour till about 7/7.30am. Often though 6.30am is his awake time so i start my day then (ive found its the best time for my shower while he is happy entertaining himself).
However, he can be wanting constant touch during the day, and some days wont sleep at all, so the days are a bit patchy, but the nights make up for it. I suspect Co-Sleeping also helps him to sleep well, as he only stirs and I wake and feed him while he is still asleep, so its easy for him to go straight into another sleep cycle.
Occasionally when i change his nappy during the night he wakes and wants to play. So I just feed him, and if the boob doesnt get him to sleep a short walk around the house rocking and singing always does the trick.
6wk feeding frenzy - we hit 6wks yesterday, and man he fed almost non stop for 2hrs last night before bed. My nipples were rather tender :o
Then he slept for ages last night and I woke with hard full boobs, but he has been ravenous all morning, and going straight back to sleep (very odd) so I suspect there is alot of growing happening.
Sorry for the lack of personals, will try and stay more ontop of things this week!
Finally have the time to post (I think!) while Lacie is napping in the sling.
M2W - Lacie takes about an hour to feed and resettle of a night, mostly because its taking ages to burp her at the moment. I've learnt now after being puked on so many times that I really have to make her burp despite her complaining or falling asleep, so its taking a while to get her back down again. I have a sleepy wrap sling, which I believe is the same as a hug a bub? I love it, it's fantastic for when I take her out shopping or anything, she falls asleep almost instantly in it.
shell - fantastic idea to have a nap on the couch with bub in the sling, I will remember that in case I need to use that trick!
Jandals - I hope you had a better nights sleep last night. I don't think I can offer any advice, except hang in there and get as much sleep as you can at other times.
thrilled - I've only woken Lacie a couple of times for a feed, and thats when she's gone about 4 hours during the day and I know if I don't wake her she'll scream the house down when she does wake up. Otherwise I let her decide when she wants to eat!
QB - I understand you on the guilt thing, I have times when I feel so awful about giving Lacie formula. I fed her in public for the first time a few days ago and was sure everyone was looking down their noses at me for bottlefeeding. I know they weren't really, and I know that she needed the formula as she wasn't gaining weight or getting many wet nappies but it is hard to not feel guilty about it. :hug:
Lou - I'm glad to hear Sophie is better now. The lumbar puncture must have been awful for you, especially on such a tiny person. I can honestly say I won't mind if I never see that waiting room again, lol! I think some of the staff really need a break to get their attitudes back in the positive. I know they are always short staffed there so its hard when you're tired to not be grumpy, but the patients have got to come first, especially in somewhere like maternity.
Okay I think thats me pretty well caught up! Things here are going quite well. Lacie has started sleeping longer overnight, we generally get a 5 hour sleep with a feed about 2am, and then she settles about 3am and sleeps for about 3 hours. The first time she slept for 5 hours I woke up panicking thinking there must have been something wrong as it was so unexpected. DF and I had a great weekend with her as she's starting doing all sorts of fun things like reaching for objects and smiling, and we've discovered she absolutely loves naked time. I'm trying to give her as much of that as possible, so long as the house is warm enough, by giving her a bedtime massage each night.
Lacie had her first physio appointment last week and they are really happy with how her collarbone has healed up. They thought she'd have no movement in that arm but its fine, you can't even tell she had the injury except for a lump where the bone has healed and she has slightly decreased grip ability in that hand which we are working on.
Has anyone joined a mums group yet? I've joined one which starts at the beginning of May, I'm starting to really look forward to it as it will be nice to hang out with other mums and for Lacie to have a bit of playtime with other babies.
Sorry its such a long post, has been a while! And sorry if I missed anyone, I hope you're all doing well :D
PS - Ciaran weighs 5.4kg at 6wks, and was 3.2 at his birth. He is one healthy looking boy!
Roxxie - glad to hear things are going well with Lacie, and that you are getting some long sleep stretches! I have had a few of them on occasion and done the same thing - woke up freaked out that id slept thru, but the little man was right there next to me, sleeping happily! My boobs felt like rocks, but hey they are easily relieved.

Tobi did a 5 hour stretch last night. DH feed him at 9pm and I went to bed and he didn't wake till 2am! I had to keep checking the clock because I couldn't believe it and I was groggy.
He has been a lot more spewy lately but I suspect it is the cold because I think the mucus is running down the back of his throat and upsetting his tummy. Poor thing.
He is starting to squawk, better go.
