I thought you had something going on in the friends w benefits!
I actually saw Candice yesterday she came over for a mummy meetup w some other BB girls. She has been doing it tought w X feeding every 2-3hrs around the clock and not sleeping at all well. She tried offering water at night last week and it worked a treat, but has reverted again this week. She is tired but seems to be hanging in there. Am getting her out for a coffee next week too - I know how isolating it can be w a baby that doesn't sleep and constantly feeds.

Hi Emma,
Yes I have read quite a few book and definately they give you all different advice and I definately agree with the others to go by what your baby needs.
Lily is not fat, it is just her length which gets her into the 00 and 0 clothes (most of them are 00). BF is definately still her main food source and she only gets an ice cube of food at lunch time with a little rice cereal and the same for dinner and only after she has breast milk.
At dinner time she loves her food as I think my breastmilk runs a little low and it helps her to sleep longer during the night. We actually get to 3.30 am now (she goes to bed at 6.30 pm). I express at around 9.30 pm (to keep my supply up) and use it to mix her rice cereal.
Nelly so glad you are all OK. That is my greatest fear when driving that somebody will hit my from her side or from behind.....
TMTM - I wonder why a lot of our bubs are so long??? must be something for all our May babies

HI Girls,
Wow everyones babies sound like they are doing fabulously. Isn't it funny how they call all be so different in size. So far Jack is on par with my eldest son Oscar, at 4 months they both weighed around 6.5kgs, Lewis my second son at 4 months weighed 8.2kgs, and they have all been breastfed.
I too have started Jack on solids, he has been eating for about 2 weeks now, I started off with once a day but he is now having 3 meals a day (small meals) he too loves the Rafferty brand, especially the apple and pear with cinnamon.
He isn't rolling at all yet, I'm starting to worry a bit, but I think his problem is his 2 brothers which are constantly amusing him, he doesn't need to roll cos he's not trying to get anywhere.
His latest trick is sticking out his tongue he thinks its a great joke, and has even discovered the art of blowing rasberries.
Sleep, well my great little sleeper is no longer, he is waking consistently at least once a night. Not sure why he has gone from sleeping from 8pm to 7am but I just give him a feed and he settles again straight away.
Sorry about the long post.

Constipation
Hi Girls,
I am hoping for a little bit of advice, Jack is constipated, I have tried to make sure that he is having pears, etc to try and prevent this but it doesn't seem to have worked, he is really having trouble and is in a bit of pain when he is having a bowel motion.
At the moment his diet is,
Breakfast - Tablespoon rice cereal mixed with pears, apple mango, some type of fruit puree.
Lunch - is his vegies, so far its pumpkin, carrot, potatoe and zucchine puree
Tea - Is generally straight fruit, I don't give him straight apples it is always mixed with something.
Is there anything else I should be giving him, not letting him eat ect.
I have never had this problem with the other boys so am a bit lost on what is best to do.

megs when we started Jake on solids I found some diluted prune juice worked a treat. Have also heard, but never tried, a teaspoon of brown sugar in their bottle or in some warm water if BF.
-
TMI!!
What are his poos like when he does go - are they definitely hard/pellet or ribbony? He could be having trouble and not be constipated.
THere is a kids prune juice that is diluted to a safe amount for kids, I used to give that to Milo in a bottle, but he would have been 9 months, not sure if you can use it for younger kids?
What goes your MCHN or GP say?
-
Thanks Nelly and Ray Ray.
To answer your question, they aren't hard, still quite pastey, probably more ribbony, but not much is coming out.
I'm still breastfeeding, have been offering cooled water at each meal time, he only drinks a tiny bit though spits the rest out.
Might give the diluted prune juice a go.
GP haven't seen, is too hard to get into would probably have to wait 4 weeks to see. I haven't mentioned to MCHN, don't see her aging til his 8 month check.
I might give the maternal health line a call, must be honest though I am trying to avoid getting a lecture about starting him on solids before he is 6 months.

megs - the RCH murdoch institute says solids form 4 months so tell them to go jump :p
I would go see someone as usuallly to be constipation the stools hae to be hard, so it could be a food intolerance, or something like that?
-
Thanks again Ray Ray.
I think I will have to see someone, he is in obvious discomfort the poor litte man.
How are your 2 men going?
-
we are all good here.
Milo is having heaps of tantrums and being very naughty!
Oscar has 2 teeth and looks like he is about to get at least one more. Hes also biting me at feeds, not fun.
HE seems to be noticing food a lot more, paying atention IYKWIM?
At this stage I will peobabaly look at startng him on solids in November, but we'll see how we go.
HE loves sitting in the high chair at meal time with us though!
-
I hear you on the tantrums, Lewis who is 3 next month is pretty good at them at home, luckily haven't had any in public yet. I'm currently trying to toilet train him, but unlike Oscar who was really easy and wanted to wear jocks Lewis couldn't care less. Thank goodness the weather is warming up.
Teeth, No 3, wow, does he cut them without too much drama?

So here is my month in a nutshell ... from another post ... sorry feeling pretty spent and just need to get off my chest ...
DS (turns 3 in Nov) is being treated as if he has a gastric ulcer based on symptoms he has been experiencing over the past year, but more so the past 6wks.
I am going to outline his history but bear with me am typing as it comes out of my brain.
DS had silent reflux as a baby and was medicated until almost 2.We have had several issues with his sleeping over the past year or so but was never able to put it down to anything in particular, and everything we tried worked for a while but always regressed. In January he was hopsitalised after a severe bout of vomiting (3 days) with Acute Metabolic Acidosis. After a week in hospital and interminable tests there could be nothing metabolically underlying found as a cause.
6 weeks ago he had a really bad vomiting bout, but it was very brief. Huge vomits over a couple of hours and then all over. We managed with hydrolyte and he bounce back fine. There was no diarrhea and low grade fever.
Two weeks later he had another bad vomiting episode paired with black tarry stools, it was scary how quickly he crashed and was dehydrated. We spent the night in the Mater, he had been vomiting for about 6hrs until they gave him an anti-emetic, and he spent the night re-hydrating - there was concern based on his acidotic history. No diarrhea and low grade fever.
Two weeks later (this weekend just gone) he had another violent vomiting episode. It started at 7am and continued for at least 30hrs. After 7hrs he started vomiting blood and was physically collapsing everytime he vomited. Took him to the Mater again. Based on his acidotic history we were nearing another serious systemic collapse. Sent home (tagged as an over-reacting mother but that is another story) and had to keep pushing hydrolyte in to him to maintain hydration. His urine was still dark and concentrated yesterday (at least 48 hrs after he stopped vomiting) and we were booked into paed today.
After the first episode I brushed it off as just a bug. The second, combined with the tarry poo which indicates usually blood in stools, started to set off alarm bells. The third set me over the edge.
Basically after seeing his paed today we are treating firstly that there may be the presence of a gastric ulcer. Back on Losec with follow-up to see if it is having any effect. Bloods and urine to be done if he has another episode of vomiting. Other issues to be investigated are food allergies (now keeping a food diary to see if anything may trigger the vomiting episodes) and Liver and other metabolic conditions.
Have had a roller coaster of emotions, Sophia obviously has picked up on them and has not been her usual placid self, plus there are teeth moving around and threatening to erupt. And of course when I got to the paed and sat down I burst into tears - so all 3 of us were crying at once! Fun fun fun!!

Nelly, I have no words of advice to give to you, just want to say I am thinking of you and hope that they can get to the bottom of what is going on with your son quickly.
Take care of yourself and know that you are being a great Mum and doing the best you can for all of your children.
I hope Sophia settles again for you, it must be the time for teeth, Jack's cheeks are rosy red and he is extremley unsettled. Can't feel anything yet?
-
Thanks Megs they are both asleep now so I am going to have a rest too. I can feel a little lump on the bottom of her gum, and she is chomping like a maniac, so I don't think it's too far off.
Hmmmm am thinking maybe starting solids in the next week or so - she keeps grabbing at Jake's food, and whoever else happens to have theirs near her, and was gumming on his carrot stick last night.... It was cold (and soothing) and really sweet too I think.
-
hugs nelly, i cant imagine how scary it is having to be in and out of hospital xx
jade has had rosy cheeks and drooling for over a month but no sign of any teeth yet
-
-
heheh thanks, see they even gave jade orange hair hehe :)
