Yeah I am due for my six week check up- it was over Xmas so I'm a little late. I'm so not worrying about contraception. I think I'm over my experimenting with boys and may go back to dating girls, when and if I ever feel up to having a love life again ;-) Right now I can't imagine being up for sex yet. I have been exclusive BF so should get the bleeding checked I guess. Just one more thing to do on the 'To Do" list.
Actually it's been a bit of a struggle over Xmas and New Year with holidays for everyone but not me LOL. Hard to pin down BF help when I needed it, plus my root canal got infected again and couldn't reach dentist, plus all my friends off having a blast some even decided not to use any holiday time to visit me which was a bit sad. Seems now work is firing back up for everyone they are back into the swing of it though thank goodness, since I do love it when people visit/help out! I'm pretty proud I've managed three weeks by myself now without Mum! Solo parenting is frakin hard though!
I can't believe the time has come for you to go back GTBIA!

OH. MY. GOD.
Maybe we're not going anywhere. The Vietnamese Embassy appears to have lost our passports. I've been on the phone so long I've flattened the batteries of both cordless phones. They say the posted them on December 15 but they still haven't arrived. We're supposed to fly out on Wednesday. I'm having a bit of a panic attack.
I also called the airline to check Poppy's luggage allowance. She wasn't booked on our ticket and I have to pay $198 for her!
-
Oh Barb :o Hope they sent your passports registered post at least then they can be tracked down. I thought you didn't pay for babies, especially since they don't have a seat or are eating!! And I also thought her luggage allowance was part of yours so you shouldn't have to pay for that either??
Hope it all gets sorted ASAP.

Well, I've changed our flights to Saturday to allow a few more days for the passports to turn up. It's been a frustrating and stressful couple days. So now Poppy and I will be traveling alone. I really wanted DP's help on the first flight. The last week or so Poppy has been a complete Daddy's girl and only settles for him. I am dreading the flight and saying goodbye to DP at the airport today.
To make matters worse, a colleague sent me a heads up that I'm unlikely to be offered a new contract. Apparently asking whether I would be paid for five hours work was so offensive I am now unemployable. :o That's not asking to be paid but just asking IF I would be paid. Because before I left I was told I was not allowed to work online and a week later they were asking me to work online.

Hi Everyone,
Barb/GTBBIA: You need change your user name  I hope you are reading this in Vietnam and everything got sorted by the time you were booked on your flights. Let us know how you go and how you have settled back into Vietnam.
Emma: When I had Oscar I assumed that the OB would do a check on him as well and was confused when he didn't really even look at him..but they don't. That's up to the MHN at your Health Centre or Paediatrician if there were complications that need to be checked. I am not sure where we get this impression re: the OB as most women I know (including me of course) assume the same as you first time round.
When I had Ben I didn't even take him with me for the 6wk check  Alyssa sounds like she is thriving! I think my hormone make up changed dramatically after having kids as I never used to have any reactions to contraceptive pills before hand, hoping the Mirena will go smoothly. The OB mentioned it is just a quick phone call and I will be able to come in and have it removed if it's causing problems. She was pretty confident that it wouldn't.
Jody: You had a tough run over Christmas & New Year! Hope Elliott is attaching better. Good to hear you friends are back on board again...I too love it when people pop in!!
Hope everyone is else is coping well.
AFM: I had my 6wk check (7 & 8wk as OB prefers that) yesterday. She said everything was fine and the tear was well healed and looking good. I had pre-planned with her receiption staff to get the ball rolling for the Mirena. So she did a swab and checked my Uterus and Cervix was ok. She gave me the script and then showed me what it would look like when I picked it up from the Chemist (a warning I need to take a big bag!)...I nearly fell off my chair!! The packaging and bits and pieces are half a metre long! The Mirena itself is tiny, I am glad she warned me. She said most women freak when they see thinking the whole thing needs to go in  The procedure itself to put it in is quite time consuming considering what it is and very sterile. The procedure takes about 5-10mins as they need to sterilise the area thoroughly so there is no risk of infection. So I am in next week to have it put in. She also mentioned that it would be best to give my body another week before starting Sex again as my Cervix was dry and Sex would be painful? Why I don't know, fine by me :D.
Tess is still going well and changing so much every day. She too has a little chat and reacts with smiles and giggles when I talk to her. It's just beautiful. Sometimes after she has a feed of one side she is in happy land (think she would have something stronger!) and doesn't think she wants anymore..then I put her down for a play and she decides that she does want it :wall: Does this quite often :D She went back into waking at 12 then 4 and last night woke only once at 3:30am..ahh bliss
Bye for now...

Hi all,
Heather - I actually booked Alyssa in for her check with the GP (i delivered in a public hospital sothey don't do mum's check up. got to go to the GP) rather than the child health nurses cause all the nurses around here were on holidays from the 15th Dec to 18th Jan so i couldn't get her in on time. she did all the checks, just didn't fill anything out in Alyssas health record so theres no notes for the nurses. i was always planning on doing both - just didn't want to seem like a bad mum for not getting her checked on time........
GTBBIA - hope everything works out fine for your flight. i think i'd be a little daunted about the flight as well. i still haven't been to the shops on my own without mum or DH for support (but i could just be a big wuss!!).
Quick question, has anyone elses bubs started feeding less....... or for less time each feed??? at the start i was quite anal about being in control and was timing Alyssas feeds and keeping track on a piece of paper...... she got up to about 10 minutes each side and sometimes longer. the last couple of days they seemed to be really short (and she's screaming if i try and force anymore) so the control freak in me started timing them again and they're about 5 minutes each side. she's happy and content and smiling and sleeping and there's still plenty of wet nappies each day. could she just be getting more efficient at what she needs???? or be finished a growth spurt and not needing as much??? i'm going to weigh her today so i can keep an eye on that over the next week. just very disturbing when she pulls away from your boob and screams when you try to feed her :wall:.
Apart from that everythings going good. we're trying to make her bed time earlier which is good for her. she doesn't seem as tired in the mornings. we've got it back from about 9:30 to 8 which gives us a little bit of time as well which is good. the first night she went 8 to 2 then 230 to 5 then was only up for about a 5 minute top up and went back until 8. last night she did 8 - 430 and 530 to 8 so can't complain too much. thinking i might try a dream feed when we go to bed about 10 and see if that can get her through till morning :crossfingers:.. would be nice but i won't hold my breath........
be back soon
-
Barb - gosh hun it never seems to be straight forward for you hun  hoping everything works out especially on the work front they sound very backward to me but I guess different cultures etc ....
Em - DD only feeds from one side per feed and the feeds vary in length - sometimes she will only feed for 5 min then not want any more, sometimes a feed can stretch out over 30-40 min (excluding burping time). Some days she will only be on the boob 6 times others it seems she never comes off :dunno: maybe bub was having a "not very hungry day" ?? I try to not clock watch now, seriously you cannot time these things otherwise you will worry yourself senseless. Just keep offering until bub no longer wants it ... thats the beauty of baby lead feeding the baby tells you when she is hungry or full.
Heather - let us know if it hurts !!!!
AFM - shae had another 8 hour sleep last night after a huge day of socializing. We had friends over for a bbq so she didn't get her catnaps in. She was really unsettled and up until 10pm when i decided i had enough and fed her to sleep in our bed. i took her off boob and had her on her back until 10.30 then wrapped her and rocked her in her room and popped her in her snuggle bed in the cot and left by 11 - she didn't stir until 7 this morning - i checked her twice through the night though

Barb: :wall: with your work. Perhaps once you get back and can ask them face to face they may be a little more helpful?? Who are you flying with? Alot of Flight Attendants are great at helping out Mum's on planes when they see you don't have anyone with you. My SIL has travelled alone with her little ones and said that the attendants are usally great and very clucky and willing to help out  Can you check in online and choose your seat? Or ring and get a seat booked so you can get one of the ones in the front row (bunker seat??)that have a cot thingy for Poppy to sleep in?
Emma: Tess is feeding alot quicker as she has the hang of what to do. I try and go by the feel of the breast(how empty it is) rather than the time she takes. Sometimes she will be happy to be there all day as she is comfort sucking rather than actual feeding. You will find the feeds will vary regularly as they grow and when they stop over night they may want more during the day for a while to compensate. It's such a judgement thing breast feeding it is hard to know if they are getting enough, you are doing the right thing as in knowing that she is happy, sleeping and plenty of wet nappies then you are doing a great job and she must be feeding well. :)
Nae: Even though Tess is my third I find myself checking on her sometimes through the night just to make sure, especially if she isn't making noises. It's soo nice when they have long sleeps at night but can be a bit unsettling for you for a while. Tess only catnaps through the day as well.
Tess is having her 8wk Immunisations and Health Check next week. Busy day on Tuesday as we will be doing that and I will be going to the OB as well for part 2 of my appointment.

Thanks guys!! it's just so hard to know you're doing the right thing. been having an attack of am i doing the right thing!!!! makes you feel like a bad mum when they scream and you think you're doing the right thing!!!!
I'm glad to see i'm not the only one checking!!! I'm sure DH thinks i'm a looney when i ask him to make sure she's still breathing when i can't hear her . good to know i'm not alone! i just don't know what i'd do if anything happened to her!!!!
got to go. going to go brave the shops...... wish me luck!!

Hi all,
I'm still in Australia. The passports arrived when I was 2/3rds of the way to the airport with DP. I'm booked to fly out on Saturday so hopefully DP has enough time to rent a house and arrange delivery of our stuff by then.
I'm hoping the flight attendants will help out. I was still quite sick from the dengue fever when I booked the flight so I booked business class. At the time of booking, it was only $100 more than an economy fare on Singapore Airlines. But... they didn't book the baby on so I've had to pay an extra $200 to take her. So for that I will be expecting a bit of help, considering she doesn't get a seat or food so we have to get our $200 worth somehow!
As for the job front, I am so sick of dealing with this employer. It seems I've had a ball of anxiety in my stomach for more than a year because of interacting with these people. I sent a few emails last night and tomorrow I've got to call a guy in Singapore to talk about taking up a job there. I didn't want to work fulltime for a while but I'm just sick of working in what I consider an unprofessional and ridiculously petty work environment. And we've burned through a lot of savings over the last four months. I have to get some kind of money coming in soon.
That's my update. Persies tomorrow. Like everyone else, it seems, I've got to go check DD is still breathing. If it's not one worry, it's another!

I think every mum checks on her kid to see if they are still okay! I have to start locking my dogs out at night, cause sometimes I'm so exhausted that I remember getting the baby out of the bassinet to feed, and feeding, but don't remember putting him back so I wake in horror that somehow I've lost/dropped/smothered him in bed and then I see a warm lump in the bed and tear off the covers ...to find a very surprised puppy dog. And Master E sound asleep back in his crib. Too funny!
Glad to hear the passports arrived GTTBIA and that you are all on your way back bit by bit at least. It does sound like you could do with a new employer I agree! When are you thinking of going back to work?
I'm tossing up doing some study during my year off from work - would be two nights a week from 6-9pm so wouldn't miss any Elliott time really, but could be exhausting. You'll love it though - it's the qualifications to become a private investigator! I have spend so much time and energy trying to track down Baby Daddy who it turns out lied about everything including, last name, age, employer, and of course is already married with children and not in any kind of open relationship whatsoever :wall:. But I've got so good at it all that I found all the right details to give to child support/legal aid for a court appearance that I figure if I got the qualifications I could help other women do the same

Hey Tecopa, your course sounds like fun. You could be Tecopa P.I. (Caught an old episode of Magnum PI late one night here. Too funny.)
I know how you feel about smothering. Poppy just wouldn't sleep in her hammock when we first brought her home and DP kept bringing her to bed with us. I am now in the habit of hugging a pillow and I was worried that I'd put a pillow on top of her or pick her up and fling her to the other side of the bed when I rolled over. And I was so tired, just a wreck... I'm so glad that part of motherhood is over.
Emma - how did your trip to the shops go? I find Poppy is very portable when she's asleep. She seems quite comfortable to be out and about but it is embarrassing when she gets grizzly. And she always seems to need a feed when we are all ready to walk out the door.
Nae - how's it going with BFing? Are things getting easier?
Heather and Emma - I get a bit of an inferiority complex when I read about your babies wriggling and giggling. Poppy has started smiling and it's very cute. But I just want more!
As for me ... I sat at the computer last night and did a lot of research. I need to talk to DP but I think it's time to leave Vietnam. It's a great place but all my skills and experience are wasted in a country with a super-paranoid state-run media. I had intended to go back to work four or five hours a day at the end of February but now I'm not sure what's going to happen. There's an opening coming up in Singapore with my old company.
-
Barb: Sounds like a good plan! What are the chances of your DP being a stay at home Dad and you work full time? Would that work? It was always a plan for us..whoever earnt the most would stay home and it just happend to be Bernie had the better wage and employment options. With Tess moving and giggling I think it's quite strange as both boys didn't move for ages. In fact Oscar was 18mths before he walked and he never crawled only commando crawled and Ben was about the same with walking in fact I think he was closer to 2 :o. Before you know it Poppy will be doing all the things you want (well most of the time anyway) and you will just want to get back to the baby stage again
Jody: :dance: Well done on tracking down Elliotts biological father and soon to be (hopefully) part financial provider. I think a PI is the perfect job for you as I am betting there are a lot of women out there with the same predicament as you and have no clue where to start, could be quite a lucrative career move
Well...I am just back from taking the boys to the dentist. Oscar..great! Ben :wall: As a baby Ben had lots of ear infections which resulted in him taking antibiotics and then eventually grommets in and adenoids removed. As a result of the antibotics his back teeth are weak and discoloured and we need to take him to a paediatric dentist!! Thank goodness for private health cover as he is probably going to need to go under a general to get them either capped or filled being only 3yrs old:doh: Ahhh the joys, still wouldn't live without them though as they are just the best kids :D
Back soon

Barb: Hoping you have an uneventful and safe trip back to Vietnam. It would be great if you could convince DP to move Singapore as it sounds like a good move for you all.
I have just worked out what a Dream Feed is  Took a while as I noticed Emma mentioned it and looking around BB posts noticed a few others mentioned it as well. When I had Ben and Oscar it was called a roll over feed..ahhh how things change in such a short time!!
Miss Tess is doing great. She had a nice long sleep last night (6:30pm-4am), so I think it's time for her to go into her cot in her own room and we start using the baby monitor, she has been doing a long stretch at night for quite some time on and off  She is a noisy sleeper and escapes out of her wrap most of the time now and sometimes the bassinette has been shaking and rocking too and she appears to be getting too big for it! Time flies when you are having fun and she sure is a good baby girl (in my biased opinion)
bye for now, finally just a short one.

I am just popping in to ask what is everyone's baby doing in regards to poo?
quote :"At least 5 heavily wet disposable nappies (or 6 - 8 pale wet cloth nappies) in 24 hours, as well as 2 or more runny or soft poos over the same time, is the best indication that your daughter is getting enough milk."
I have heard BF babies can go up to 5days without one. I was lurking around BB and one of the Moderators was explaining to someone who was having trouble with BF Bub the above quote (I copied and pasted it). Tess only poo's every 3-4days and sometimes 5days. When she does eventually poo it is the right colour and consistency for a BF baby and there sure is alot of it! She doesn't have any discomfort before hand and it doesn't seem to trouble her..she is also settled and sleeping well so I use this as a judment she is getting enough.
Just curious to know if other Bubs are having quite a few days without a poo? It's been 3.5yrs since I breast fed so I am starting from scratch again with knowing what is really right and wrong

-
I've even heard a quote that says "10 poos in one day, or one in 10 days" can be normal for BF babies. Imagine one every 10 days :o
I think what you are describing sounds fine. She's putting on weight, she's sleeping, she's alert and happy from what you say - sounds contented to me!
And with the wet nappy count, it took me a while to realise that disposables it's not going to be the same - cause you change them less often usually than cloth and they absorb so much more liquid before you notice.
We are closer to the 10 poos a day scale here. Almost every nappy has one. For a while there were none overnight and then from 4-7am Elliott would be working on a huge explosion and unhappy about it, but now we seem to be going back to poo with every change.
-
Hi
just a quick one from me. someones awake and not happy about it but refusing to have a nap :wall:
Heather - Alyssa's record is 7 days (that was quite an explosion ). she was going every 4 - 7 days for a few weeks around the 4 week mark (which worried me so young. i thought it was around 6 weeks they could start doing this). now we're back to multiple every day.the child health nurse told me that was fine and they could go 10- 14 days. the record she knew of was 31. that wouldn't have been pretty!!!!
going to go and try to settle little miss. if i don't get her down soon it won't be good. got to go and pick DH up from the club after cricket in about an hour. his leave pass runs out then :)
-
Thanks Girls..nice to know what is happening is reasonably normal (I personally could't do that )
:o 31days!!!
Well..Tess slept in her cot overnight for the first time last night. The bassinette is getting too small and her hands touch the sides and as she wriggles that she quite often ends up at the top of it with her head touching.
She did well last night..woke at 12ish then 4ish then into bed with us at 6am (boys were awake anyway!) and then slept till 8am. She did the same the night before. She has been doing 6:30pm to 4ish sometimes later so things really are very good. We are in a routine of her going to bed at night between 6 & 7, which is great as it gives us a chance to read the boys their stories and put them to bed between 7:30-8pm in peace.
This hot weather is a killer!! We have a small AC that makes a cool spot for us all. We are having new blinds and getting E Screens installed soon (end of the month) so this too should help with the heat.
Barb: Have been thinking of you and hope you had nice trip back to Vietnam. Hope to hear from you soon.
bye for now...keep chatting :D
