Just a quick hi from me. DH went back to work today so i'm enjoying my first day of peace in a while. love him and all but he's so anal about the housework and getting everything done straight away. i swear once the washing basket has about 10 things in it they have to be done and the ironing can never sit over night. it's exhausting!!! so i'm rebeling today and am still in my pj's!!! figured i deserved it seeing as we had friends over last night and i cooked for 7 people!!!
Alyssa's still doing her same sleeps of a night time. getting up once for a feed but not actually waking up so she's sleeping about 11 hours most nights. then she'll get up for an hour and rhen grizzle when she wants to go back down. don't know how she can sleep so much. but i think she's worked out we're more active in the afternoons so she likes to be awake for that. knew we had people here last night so wasn't happy to go to bed at the normal bed time. wanted to stay up and be social so she sat on one of our friends laps facing outwards and watched us play cards and nodded off for catnaps when she was tired. such a little social bunny!!
We've started the day sleeps in the cot. Mummy isn't ready for her to go to her own room of a night yet!!! we've got a split level house and even though the nursery joins the end of our wardrobe it's downstairs and there's actually 2 flights to get down (about 8 steps in total) and it just seems so far away!!! i've already warned jono that we'll be sleeping downstairs in the spare room next to the nursery until i'm ready to go back up (i suspect he'll be back up there before me which is fine by me. queen size bed each!!!).
that's about all for me. and i guess i better go have a shower seeing as it's lunch time!!!
talk soon.

Hey gals I have a question - how much time do you spend with bub while they are awake? And how much of that is close attention/play/interaction?
I just have no idea. I always swore I wouldn't be like my mum who did what I call "Pot Plant Parenting". We were fed, watered and looked after, but pretty much left in a corner to amuse ourselves the rest of the time LOL. No real play time together or close bonding stuff. It really sucked.
So now I don't know if I do too much or not enough. Sometimes E is happy just in his bouncer so I will sit on the computer with him at my feet. Sometimes his is just awake looking about in my bed (safely) while I duck outside to do washing etc. I can't put him in a carrier for long cause of my back which doesn't help.
On a good day we have an hour or so on the play mat with toys and tummy time and hanging out plus I sit with him heaps. And I play the piano for half an hour while he watches and shakes his music bells (I attach them to him!)

Jodes - For me it depends on my mood, miss shae's mood and the weather  today while the morning was mild I went out side took some piccies went for a short farm walk before the dogs started to annoy me then came inside. Missy napped for 45 min sl I sat on the comp. She was happy enough playing on the floor on this gym thing so I sat at the comp more while she was entertaining herself with her hands , boy that sounds bad but I mean she was interested in her hands she has only discovered they are hers ... when she wanted interaction she'd talk to me so I'd talk back and make gooey faces at her - when she lost interest in me she'd look away so I went back to the comp. Then when the heat set in we were both grumpy and not wanting to be held but not wanting to go down either.
Normally I spend quite a bit of time with her but I also do other things like the washing, I just sit her in the pram and wheel her out while I do the laundry then park her on the veranda when I hang it out or pull it off the line - she loves being outside so she is happy and I get jobs done.
Will be interesting to see just how long it takes me to renovate the middle bedroom with a baby - without one it took me 4 months from start to finish working on it all my days off I cannot have her in the room when I sand or scrap out the plaster from the lining boards so will be needing her to have "daddy time" I got 1hr today and did the smallest bit .......... I so need a steamer to remover the wall paper bugger if I will be doing it by hand again ...........
sorry went off on a tangent

Hot Hot Hot...the hottest January night since records begun :o
Jody: You are doing really well in the play department.
Play is a funny thing...I put Tess under her play gym and talk to her and show the toys on it and how they work. I leave her on it while I do things and can hear her get excited so I go and have a look and talk more to her.
I too use the bouncer a fair bit..I put it up on our bench while I am doing things in the kitchen or when the boys have their dinner and chat away to her and they do too. I have extra help as the boys like to play with her as well.
I do tummy time and also when it's bath time it's all play and fun so are nappy changes. As long as you interact with them that's the main thing as all babies reactions like smiling are learnt ones, from what I have seen of your photo's of Elliott he is one happy camper :)
Also remember with breast feeding or any kind of feeding that too is quality time as you burp and cuddle them and have a chat when they are over the moon they have a full tummy..the time at the end of the day when you have just fed them and have a cuddle then them to bed is quality time.
If you sat down at the end of the day and added up the time you spent with Elliott I am sure it would be alot more than you think. It also important for them to learn to amuse themselves a little too.
Play is not necessarily in one big chunk..it can be all through the day at various times.
There is no real right or wrong, you sound like you have got right the amount happening.

Quick brag from me....... Little miss slept through last night!!! 9:30 to 6. hoping it's not a once off. was so nice!! She has a new little trick too. i went to get her after one of her naps yesterday and she'd got herself out from the sheet we use to tuck her in (without untucking it) and had her arms and legs free so she could plant her feet and move backwards. she had her head at the top of the bassinett. thought she was very clever lying there smiling at me!!! just a bit of a worry because the bassinett is one of the calico ones (it's very deep and long which is why we bought it - the people in the shops thought it would do 5 months or so, but i'm starting to think not) so she's not going to fall out but she could easily ram her head into the wooden supports.......
jody - I was the same as you. wondering if i was spending enough time with Alyssa (and feeling a bit guilty) cause when she's happy on her gym i'll take the chance to grab something to eat or cook tea. i can still see her the whole time and if i'm eating i do it next to her but i wasn't constantly talking to her. i'm the same as heather and turn nappy changes into fun time. she loves having her nappy off so she's pretty receptive then as well. we play with a few of her toys and i've just started reading her a book occasionally too which she loves. smiles and chatters away the whole time. i'll sit her up on my lap and talk to her after a feed as well. then nighttimes i try and get DH to play with her (although i don't think he understands the whole concept - how do you play with a baby???). remember they just like to stare at you so as long as you're close and he can hear your voice. i have to confess i'm a bad mummy and have to start turning the tv off. i don't turn it on for her, more for some noise and company for me through the day - but she loves it. she's started turning her head to try and stare at it even when it's not on.
GTBBIA - hope your trip back was uneventful and you got some help from the flight attendents and that everything is settling in okay!!! It won't be long and poppy will be doing all sorts of weird and wonderful things and you'll be wanting your quite little baby back. Alyssa just wants to be moved and even when you're trying to cuddle her she's trying to push her legs down on yours and stand up. if you lie her down she kicks you in the belly and tries to fling herself away (has been doing this one since day one which was lovely just after the birth while the after pains were still hanging around ;).
Got to go. hoping missy wakes up soon. i'm going to the shops with a friend who has a 3 week old. could be interesting. i'm just hoping we don't spend our whole day in the mothers room feeding!!!!

Well it's all done :D
Tess had her 8wk Immunisations this morning and was a very brave girl. She cried a little bit and then settled very quickly. She hardly dribbled any of the Rota Virus oral fluid out. Then onto ther 8wk appt with MCHN and she has put on 640gm  She is 4.65kg and doing well. The MCHN noticed she has little bit of flat spot on the back of her head so need to make sure we do lot's more tummy time and get her looking different ways when she is lying down.
Then it was onto the OB for my Mirena to be put in. It feels fine..just feels like I am having a period, so a bit crampy, otherwise fine. The actual putting in only took a minute it was the prep work and after that took a while. About 15mins in total. I am spotting which is normal and can go go on for quite some time while your body adjusts. Go back in 6wks time for a check. See how I feel tomorrow.
So it's all systems go..will let you know Nae how it feels when it finally happens;)
Emma: We put Tess in the cot for the same reason's you have mentioned. She was wriggling up to the top. She puts her feet down and pushes her way up, the little devil. I have stripped her cot of any blankets and will put her in a sleeping bag when the weather get's cooler. She just has the bottom sheet.
Now it's time to stay in the comfort of AC for the afternoon while I wait for this cool change to hit!! Can't wait for tomorrow's 23deg :)

Hey everyone! Big wave to those that were in the Due Nov 1 - 15th group! I've been following the Born in 16 - 30th group but finding it hard to get time to post, and don't really know any of them from last year anyway so it feels a bit weird! Not sure I can catch up with all your posts here, but would love to join in even though Jasmine was born on 21st Nov if that's ok? :)
Jasmine will be 8 weeks old this Saturday (gee that time has flown by!) and I think we are finally finding our groove where I can figure out what she wants most of the time! I still havent written my birth story and I feel slack about that - maybe I should try and do it today if she has a big sleep later on ;) We had an amazing homebirth and she cosleeps with us at night so have not had any sleep deprivation yet! Breastfeeding was a massive challenge in the first 6 weeks, with cracked nipples for 3 weeks then suspected thrush which paed ruled out on Tues this week thank goodness. Am trying to put her down for sleeps during the day when I am home - is going ok sometimes, but if she sleeps in my lap its usually for 2 - 3 hours which she is much happier about so that's usually what we do. Bene trying to get her used to being worn in my sling so I can be hands free but doesn't always work - going to borrow a different one from a friend soon (Kozy) to see if she prefers being upright instead of in a pouch sling.
She has been smiling back at us since about 2 weeks old and super alert right since birth! She's just started cooing / chatting to us and when I was taking pics of her this morning on the chaise which slightly slopes she managed to roll from her back right over onto her stomach (and then freak out!) so will have to be more careful with her on the changetable now I think just in case!
Anyway, I'm going to flick back a bit through posts to see how everyone is going! Not sure I'll be able to keep up regularly as I try to go out every second day at least to do stuff, but I will try! :)
-
Welcome back Fi!!! How did Jasmine like the other sling? Tess likes the baby born as she is close to my chest and I think finds it comforting. Wow Jasmine has started rolling  That's great...not quite there with Tess yet.
Emma: How is the sleeping going? I bought Tess one of those Gro Bag sleeping bags and it's doing the trick. She can still move, at least now she stays a little bit warmer on the cooler nights. She is settling nicely in her cot.
Jody: Get your computer fixed ok? How is Elliott's feeding going?
Nae: Hows the renovating going?
Mmmm, hope all is well with GTBBIA/Barb.
Well..everything is going well. I don't even know the Mirena is there, still have some spotting, otherwise feeling very good and confident about it.
Tess is in a funny routine at the moment at night. She goes to bed 6:30-7pm and wakes midnight and 4ish and then sleeps to 8am. She is doing the long stretches early on and I would rather them in them middle, although last night she went to 2:30 and then up at 6:30 and back down now..funny things :)
Tess is making lot's of new noises. High pitched giggls and lot's of trying to talk noises. She loves it when I talk back to her.
I did my first excersise class on Wednesday night..the pelvic floor needs a bit of work I think:o It wasn't a gush or anything drastic..just very aware that I need to excersise them alot more!!
Have a great weekend everyone

Hey All
Have resorted to borrowing a laptop since my computer is going to take ages to fix just cause all the Apple service centres are slow at the moment! Gah.
Feeding is going great guns here. Had a couple of nights of 7-midnight sleeps which is heaven and then sometimes even only a 3am feed after that. Of course other nights goes back to every two hours or so.
I'm getting into a routine with expressing 50-100 mls a day too just so I can have it on hand - I may need to have oral surgery soon, and I'm thinking of studying, and of course want a tiny bit of baby free time. Would you believe I've only had 2 hours away from Elliott since he was born!
Went for my six week check up finally LOL. All is good. Everything is back in it's place. And Elliott is now almost SEVEN kilos. OH MY GOD. I was a bit embarassed by it at first - him being huge, after all I had a lifetime of "fat" jokes but it's more like he's just long and advanced too! I can hold him almost like a real baby and not worry about his head - he can hold it now in almost any position and even lift it clear off the floor with tummy time. And he wants to sit up rather than lay down like a baby. And he laughs and talks and now tries to grab my hand with both of his to guide the dummy in when he really wants it. I just think I'm blessed to have such a healthy "bonny" kid as the old neighbour says.

Hi all,
I just did a speed read of all your posts. Things seem to be going quite well, on the whole.
I don't have very much time, so no persie for now. But big hugs to you all.
Things aren't really going as smoothly as I expected back here in Vietnam. The flight over was quite good. Poppy slept for most of the day and only really cried once when I was a bit slow getting a bottle ready. Thankfully she was due for a feed at both takeoffs, so her ears didn't seem to bother her at all. She had a funny look on her face as we descended, like "oh, what's happening in my ear" but it didn't seem to worry her that much.
But one of our bags went missing. It was the bag with all my clothes in it. It took ages to fill out the forms and actuallly get out of the airport. There was a welcoming committee of DP's parents and a brother.
DP had already told me that our house wasn't ready so we'd be staying a few days at his brother's flat. He told me that we would have his niece's room and she'd go and stay with her grandparents. But ... I think there were about 30 people in the flat when we arrived. It was all a bit too much for me. I just wanted to get Poppy's bottles ready for the night and go to bed. But there were people everywhere, stroking and pinching Poppy and yelling right in her face. Oh, and clapping their hands in her face when she got a bit unsettled. It was just awful. Vietnamese people have a much smaller personal space and it was just too crowded and noisy and all the advice seemed like criticism. It was still 30 degrees and Poppy's grandfather asked me where the baby's mittens and blanket were. It was nearly 2am Australian time when I told DP to tell them all to back off because we needed to sleep. They had the welcome home feast without us. I felt bad but it was just too much.
So, it's been more than a week and we're still stuck in the two bedroom flat. There's nine of us. There's no internet. I've read my plane book and magazine. There's no tv for me to watch. I'm climbing the walls! And our house won't be ready for another week or so. The landlord says the renovations are taking longer than he expected. But thankfully my luggage turned up after three days wearing the same clothes. Luckily I had a change of clothes in case Poppy threw up on me on the plane.
I got an email from my work advising me that my contract would not be renewed because my hourly rate was outside the company's salary policy. :o No discussion, no reply to my emails. So I have a telephone interview tomorrow for the job in Singapore. I've done a bit of research and talked it over with DP and we're going to go for it.
My Dad's also in hospital, which is very worrying. He had to have a hernia in his stomach fixed and he was supposed to be in overnight. But he's been there a week, throwing up and feeling sick and they can't work out what's wrong.
Throughout all this Poppy has been very good. The first few days she was quite unsettled, but once she adjusted to the time difference she's been ok, bar a few grumpy hours in the evening. I am not enjoying being a stay at home Mum, though. I find it very wearing. I am trying to keep my chin up but I just want to get on with the next stage of our life. DP and I have hardly had any time alone since mid-September. Our bedroom wall has a hole in it, so we can hear everything in the bedroom next door. (His brother snores).
So, since we arrived home, Poppy has accompanied me to a job interview, two cafe lunches, one coffee date with the girls, a wedding and drinks at a bar (outside, as far as possible from smokers). She's been a dream baby, either sleeping in her capsule or in the Ergo or just calmly looking around. I've left her with the relatives now for the first time. It's just so expensive and slow to take taxis and lug her and her stuff around and I just needed to send an email about the job interview tomorrow.
I'd better rush off and see how they're coping with Poppy's witching hour!

Gosh Barb I bet you cannot wait until your in your new place and life seems less hectic. You certainly always seem to have lots of stress around you I really admire your strength in not losing the plot - seriously I would have been at my wits end by now.
Well I am suffering a case of insomnia. Chris came to bed around 1 this morning and for some reason our bed has just started squeaking. He was moving around heaps trying to get comfortable which always disturbs me but with the squeaking it woke me right up. Then just as I was starting to drift back off to sleep he started snoring really loudly :wall: so its 10 to 4 Shae will be waking any moment for a feed, I feel tired but I cannot get back to sleep - god I hope this isn't the night she decides to have a long sleep.
I feel like crying but thats just coz I am so tired and I feel sick after dinner, we had fish and chips but I stupidly decided to have a hamburger as well and it was horrible I felt nauseated all evening. I feel hungry but don't want to eat much in case I actually get to go back to sleep and I don't want heavy food in my tummy.
We had Chris' aunt and uncle over yesterday and they stayed for ages and bulk of the conversation was about fishing yep thats right uncle is a mad keen fisherman - we have no interest in fishing but it was THE topic of conversation .... we did talk for a while about snakes too now that was interesting because I got a few more bits of useless info out of it like Tiger snakes are nocturnal hunters and their breeding season is Feb to March which is super handy to know as they are the most aggressive during breeding season.
We need to call a plumber out this morning the pressure from our pump is really bad, I decided to have a shower last night and told chris to bring shae in so she could have a wash but by the time he came in there was barely a trickle. we still gave her a super fast wash but it was horrid with no pressure. The pump is fairly old so I am betting we'll have to replace the bladder.
Anyways this seems to be a bit more of a grumble then a post but its 4am and I am dog tired but can't sleep and I still feel unsettled in my tummy.
MIgh go and hopefully the crappy infomercials will bore me enough that I can catch a few minutes rest.
Nae x x

Gee Barb..you seem to get the rough end of the stick alot! I hope things improve for you and the interview for the job in Singapore is just a formality and the job is yours!
Have you heard how your Dad is? I had a lady at work who had a hernia operation and they discovered later as she was sick also that she was having an allergic reaction to the netting or binding they use??? I hope they found out what was wrong.
I bet Poppy is now loving all the extra attention she is getting :)
Nae: Hope you managed to get some sleep in the end. Have you had alot on your mind lately that is keeping you awake?
Jody: 7kg..that is a bonny babe. I bet he is still the cutest. You are so organised expressing. When do you start your PI course?
Hope everyone else is doing well.
AFM and Tess: All good. She is a catnapper during the day. I think there is so much going on around her with both boys being home she just wants to be amongst it. She sleeps best when we are out and on the move during the day. She has gone back to waking just once in the night. I ended up buying a Gro Bag for her as I no longer swaddle and she shuffles up so doesn't stay under the blankets. It's a summer one so I put her in her PJ's and pop her in it or on a hot night just a long sleeve oncesie and the Gro Bag. I think it makes a difference. She likes to suck her hands so that helps her settle nicely. She is still going to bed between 6-7 at night so that routine is working well.
I had to take Ben to paediatric dentist as when he was a baby he had lots of ear infections and on antibiotics and the antibiotics has caused problems with his baby teeth. He needs to have his 4 back molars capped with stainless steel crowns. It will be done under a general..poor thing :shakehead: This will be his third general in his short little life, the first two were for his ears and having adenoids removed.
They say things happen in 3's so my three is the dishwasher has just been repaired, the car is getting fixed on Thursday (central locking again!) and now Ben. So I hope that's my lot for a while.
Take care everyone
x Heather

Oh, Tecopa, I didn't read your post properly 7KG!!!! He's enormous! I don't think Poppy is 5kg yet. But, remember Elizabeth Hurley had an enormous baby, so it's obviously quality genes that are making Elliot such a bouncing boy.
And Heather, yes, things aren't going so well for us at the moment. I really like things to be organized and I find it very frustrating when things are so out of my control. I thought everything was organized for our return but every single thing seems to have gone wrong. (And I'm not a drama queen). The police turned up the other night at 11pm to ask why the foreigner had not been registered by DP's brother. I think all the signs are telling me that things are not going to get any easier if we stay in Vietnam.
Thankfullly Poppy is an easy baby now. She sleeps through the night and is usually quite happy during the day. She gets grumpy in the evenings but I then so do I! She rolled over today, so she is growing, even though she's not drinking as much as the midwives told me she should be.
Hi Nae, I hope you are getting your sleep. I am still very tired all the time.
Sorry for lack of persies... still without internet, trying to catch up on things over a coffee at an internet cafe. Thankfully Vietnam is very generous with free wifi!
-
Hey Barb
Hope it all works out for you! Does sound a bit like maybe your future doesn't lie in Vietnam! How is the job application going for the Singapore position?
It's now 5.50am and I have been watching Elliott sleep for an hour - cause he is on his belly! I am trying to for the first time cause he tends to wake anywhere from 3-4am and be really unsettled and unhappy until 7 or 8 am when his morning poo arrives. And it's breaking my heart to see him wake up, cry, wake up, cry, wake up, cry for hours on end. Such a bad start to the day! Plus me not getting sleep - having to keep putting dummy in his mouth, or breastfeed him - which is leading to bad nipple pain again cause it's hours and hours of on and off the boob to help the digestion happen..SO my sister suggested seeing what happens if I flip him over when the crying starts. 4.30 he woke and I did the dummy tricks and re-settling and then thought I'd see what happened if I rolled him over. INSTANT calm, happy baby, sleeping soundly! Now I'm just not sure bout if I can cope with him on his belly cause of the SIDS scare tactics!! I'm a scientific gal and want to know exactly what extra risk this puts him at in numbers but that info isn't on the web really I don't think! Just lots of NO DON'T DO IT.
Apart from the morning poo drama Elliott is wonderful and a pretty easy baby - very talky and happy and joyful and chilled out. We went to a Mum's and Bub's movie with about 50 other babies yesterday and he slept through half, fed for a bit and then seemed to enjoy watching the movie for part too! And he was half a kilo heavier than the 5 month old next to him. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha.
For a social life we've joined in some ABA activities which was fun, although I am a little scared of the BF "nazis" lol, and signed up for Gymbaroo. Also our playgroup run by the Early Childood Centre starts today. Then add to that the movie sessions and I'm going to be out of the house quite bit - but only a few hours a day at most! I'm loving being a Mama.
-
Hey Jody: Glady to see you are in the swing of things and getting out there! I hope everything is coming together with 'baby daddy' finally co-operating! Gymbaroo sounds great...we have one too and I may start something like that with Tess when School goes back. Ahhh yes...the tummy sleep (no sand in my undies ). You do really just get to a point with whatever works, can he roll onto his tummy and back again yet? Otherwise maybe invest in one of the breathing monitors if he is going to be a tummy sleeper to put your mind at ease. I think the risk factor is how much air flow he has around his nose and mouth while on his tummy or side and can get back onto his back himself. Read about this with all the tummy sleep threads that are on here.
Nae: Has your pram arrived yet? How is Shae going with the silent reflux? How is the sleep going?
Barb: How did the telephone interview go? Did they give you any indication of you went? you get it. Poppy sounds like she is doing well..rolling too that's great!
Emma and anyone I missed :hello:
AFM: Tess is still doing great. Sleeping well at night, I am only getting up once for a quick feed then not again till 7:30-8, she loves to sleep in  Finally I got one who likes to sleep in!! Sometimes she does an all nighter which is great. She is very chatty and interactive and great when we go out, pretty much just sleeps while we are out. I am trying to get her into a feed, play, sleep routine during the day, not easy when I have to get out to do things, we are just winging it at the moment while Oscar is on school hol's and that seems to be working for her. She has a bath every night and sometimes there are all three in the bath..she loves it! Usually one of the boys want to get in with her. She is in bed by 7pm everynight then the boys between 7-8pm, so plenty of adult time for us.
The Mirena has settled well. Bernie hasn't noticed it :) I am still spotting, hopefully that will disappear altogether soon enough.
bye for now :D

Hi all, sorry I've been MIA for a while. I've been keeping up, just not posting. Haven't had a day at home in so long I'm almost craving it..... Does that sound bad???? I'm loving being a mummy though. Starting to think I don't want to go back to work for even the 3 day minimum that work told me I had to work (not going back till October anyway) and I'm starting to think I might have to tell them sooner rather than later that I won't be. I'm an accountant so it's not really fair to make them go through the July period down a senior when I'm not sure I want to come back. Especially seeing as we're thinking we only want 2 years between the kids so id only be back 3 months and have to tell them i'm pregnant again. don't think it would go down very well seeing as it didn't this time and i've been working there for 5 years (and was there for 4 years before that - my old boss left and i had to leave so i worked with him for a year and came back) :wall:. Thinking I'd rather do some bookkepping from home or find a job that will let me work from home instead but we'll see how that goes.......
I've put some new photo's on facebook. Hopefully the link works....... Emma Haigh's Photos - Alyssa Maree | Facebook
Miss A is getting so good at her tummy time. she loves holding her head up now. Growing up so quickly.
She's having her day sleeps in the cot now. Think i might only have a few weeks left of nights in the bassinett so that's a bit scary. Apart from that we're going really well. I only get up once a night still and usually only for a quick 5 minute feed then we're back down. some nights not at all (depending how late she went to bad the night before. She's such a good baby!!! but i think i deserve it after being sick for 9 months and having a horror labour!!!
Hi turtlejane - welcome!! i haven't written my birth story yet either. probably should cause it would give me a bit of closure but i still tear up a bit when i think about it so i don't know that i'm quite ready. I like being able to forget about it and pretend she just appeared......
GTBBIA - OMG what a couple of weeks for you!!! How'd the interview go for Singapore?? Sounds like the universe is definately telling you it's time to move on. I don't know how you managed with the family. Mine drove me slightly nuts over chrissy and they were only here for a week and stayed at Mums so we still had the house to ourselves and went up when we wanted to. Just told them she was sleeping when we wanted to stay home ;). Hope your dad's okay and everything has settled down for you!!!
Nae - hope everything is going better. it all seems so overwhelming sometimes doesn't it!!!
Heather - hope everyhting is fine with Ben's teeth. Just what you need to deal with!!! ANd cars - don't get me started. Ours just cost us $1,300 for the 100k service. and has another $700 worth of work to do on it on top of rego this month!!! And the battery is almost flat again and it's only 18 months old. Thinking it might be time to get rid of it and get something smaller. DH only drives it to work so it doesn't need to be too big. Just got to decide.....
Tecopa - I grew up sleeping on my tummy and i'm sure most of us on this forum did too. They used to tell mothers to put us on our bellies to stop us choking. But i know i'd be the same as you if Alyssa was on her tummy. She's stuck in a sleep positioner to make sure she can't roll. Mummies just a little paranoid . Sounds like you're being a very social butterfly!! I want to go to a mums and bubs movie but i'm a little scared i'll be the one with the baby who cries..... Miss A doesn't like to be held while we are sitting. lots of standing goes on in this house!!!
Go to go. Meant to be doing the ironing while DH is at cricket (crazy in this heat!!) but it's too hot even with the AC on. 40 degrees today and yesterday. just waiting for the change that's meant to come!!!

Hi Tecopa, my sister put one of her boys to sleep on his stomach all the time. She said she considered the risk of her murdering him higher than the risks of SIDS. He would only stop screaming on his tummy. I still worry about Poppy not breathing, though, so I understand why you keep checking on him.
Hi Emma, the work dilemma is tricky, isn't it? My dad used to be an employment officer with a big company in the 80s. They actually had a policy of discriminating against young women, who might take maternity leave and cost the company money. I'm glad things have changed. In Australia at least. It's still very 1984 here in Vietnam. Oh, and the pics of Alyssa are just adorable!
Heather, glad things are going so well for you. You're an old hand now. You may as well have a few more, now you've worked out how to do it so easily!
Hi everyone else.
AFM - I'm still stuck in the flat, still waiting on news on the work front. We may get the key to our new place tonight. I hope DP isn't too tired to lug all our stuff over there. My back is killing me from the rock hard bed and flat pillows we've been sleeping on.
And the bad news keeps coming. My dad had a fairly minor operation scheduled for January 11, timed for after we left so it wasn't too much for mum. He was supposed to be in overnight but he got an infection. On Saturday mum rang me to say he was having a heart attack and was in an ambulance on route to Brisbane for heart surgery. Later she called back and said it wasn't a heart attack, just his heart not coping with the poison in his system. He's got to have another op on Wednesday to clear out the pus and gunk. Mum is so stressed. On day she's got a house full of people, a son-in-law to tease and cook for her, a baby to play with and a fit and healthy husband. A few days later she's got an empty house and her sweetheart is at death's door. I really want to go home and give her a hug but we just can't afford it. And I'd like to give my dad a hug too, cos he's having such a rough time.
Gotta rush. I've left Poppy with the new nanny ($150/month for four hours a day five days a week). I feel so guilty leaving Poppy alone, especially cos she slept all morning so she's hardly had any Mummy time today. But I just have to use the internet. I'm going crazy stuck in the house talking baby talk Vietnamese with the brother-in-law's maid and real baby talk to Poppy. It's a very interesting cultural experience this past fortnight. I'm wondering if I should write a story about it.
