Babies born~October 16th-31st 2009 #2

just a quick post from me, happy new year everyone. i hope you all had an enjoyable one.
Fi dont feel bad about day care, i have to go back to work when Miss A is 6 months :( i wont be putting her in daycare but the ILs will be looking after her, i feel really bad coz a) its not their job to look after my baby 2-3 days a aweek and b) she's my baby.. i dont want anyone else looking after her but me. Dh wants me to go back full time and this is something we argue about alot coz im telling him theres not way im going back full time when she's 6 months old.. theres not a snowflakes chance in hell of that happening. But we have to do what we have to do unfortunatly.
my nye was ok, i went to BILs place and had one drink, Miss A didnt go to sleep til 11.30 LOL so by that time it was pointless drinking lol.
DH is home til thursday instead of tomorrow.. i feel bad coz i get mad at him for little things, like leavinghis empty ginger beer bottles and lids everyone :angry: or him just stepping ot of his dirty clothes and leaving them literally in the door way. or leaving his wet towl on the floor in the bathroom, or letting the dog sit on the couch when i told him not to... i could really go on and on.. but these things never really bothered me before, so why now? its just frustrating, then he comes home and tells me i dont do anything, that i dont do any housework, but when i do do it i dont get a thank you or even an ecknowlegdement that id done anything so no, im not doing it anymore for him.
Vent over lol.

I rang the child care centre and they said Leila is having a great time - she's had a little sleep then a feed and is now sleeping again! :dance: I will go and pick her up shortly

I still havent got Flynns needles yet maybe next week oops! Plus I need to get him weighed...I am sure he is fine cause he is such a boofer!

it took me a few days to catch up... but i made it! I am holding bub atm so will see how i go with typing,,,, i would generally prefer to wait until he is asleep but he often only has 2 x half hour naps during the day which means i never end up with any time!

A few personal notes....

Stevie - congrats on the bf effort!!!! It's so great to hear that you have been able to bf for a few days consistently. but remember, if you feel like you need to go back to ff - do it! Bf is not the best thing for you or miss A if it is causing you stress... if it stresses you it stresses A as well! But congrats so far sweetie.

Fi - i really feel for you putting L is day care. I can't imagine how hard it must be for you... i guess the positive for you is that since the place came up a little earlier at least you will know that she has a chance to get settled and used to it all before you leave her for long periods of time. I am planning on returning to work at end of Sept and i already know that it will be hard to put bub in daycare... i just keep telling myself day care will be good for him, as he is (and possibly always will be) an only child he needs the opportunity to interact and socialise with other kids from a young age.

Rach75 - hugs for having to deal with the decision on whether to sell things this early! i can't deal with it just yet but have no idea where i am going to put the bigger items like bath etc (i don't have a bassinet, bub slept in his big cot only).

Sorry if i missed things along the way... typing while holding Eli is a slow process and my mind is probably skipping bits becaue my fingers are going so slow!


AFM - it has been 2 weeks since i last post so i have had a fair bit happen i guess..... just after my last post (i think) Eli got his first cold. I was so sad. He was 7 weeks and was coughing, sneezing and spluttering away. He only had 1 really bad day with it before he started recovering but there were tears from both of us (if you ladies haven't worked it out already, i am a sookie la la when it comes to Eli). This was 2-3 days before xmas.

Since my last post i also left Eli for the first substantive amount of time - my DH suggested that i let someone babysit him (for longer than an hr) so that i can get used to not being with him every second of the day... he told me the longer i waited to let go a little the harder it would be... makes perfect sense but was such a difficult thing for me to do! DH and I went to the movies (saw New Moon which was great as i had been dying to see it) so were gone for 3 - 4 hours.... i missed Eli so much but made it through (and haven't left him since - oops:redface:)

Xmas with bubs was greats but after xmas comes the BOXING DAY SALES!!!!! i am a shopper and love the BDS - so Eli and I headed off to the sales with him in his baby bjorn carrier. we got there at 7:45am for 8am opening and Eli started getting grizzly at 2pm so we left... the downside for me was that i spent all the time in Myer so ended up going back to the sales 2 days later to finish looking at other shops. I found some bargains (including Steve Madden shoes for $15! crazy) and enjoyed shopping for me for once.... i bought very little for myself while i was pg since i figured i wouldn't use it for very long, so now that i am starting to fit into all my normal clothes i enjoyed the opportunity to restock my wardrobe.

Next even was new years eve..... yes, i made it to midnigh... but even more amazing, i gave bub his last bf at 5pm and had some expressed bottles out for the next 1-2 feeds before his bedtime. but he fell asleep at 6pm so i put him to bed thinking her would just wake in an hr or 2 for a feed.... but he slept through until 6:30am!!!!!!! Biggest sleep ever! I was so proud (and grateful).

I took Eli to get his 2mth needles yesterday - so heartbreaking! he started screamming as soon a they gave him the oral one, let alone the needles in each thigh.... i was grateful they did both needles at the same time though to make it a little better for him. I cried as well but hugs made us both feel better and then i just spent the afternoon yesterday cuddling him..... i felt so guilty for making him go through the pain.

The only other news i have is that i have made the decision to be a part time cloth nappy mum and part time disposable nappy mum.... the cost of disposables is really annoying me and i reconsidered the fact that it was prob going to cost about $2Kpa if we continue at the current rate. So after some research i have purchased 7 fitted nappies from itti bitti ( itti bitti Australia • change the way you think about cloth nappies ) to use for when we are home. i can then wash these each afternoon or every second day and it will just cut my disposable use down by nearly half. the initial cost was $200 but i will recoup that quite quickly if i am using about 4 of the itti bitti's each day. They are so cute also...... i will definitely be sticking with disposables for night use and going out though as this is much easier.

gtg - eli is starting to sook and this has taken me a really long time to type this with one hand..... sorry for the essay and i hope you are all well.

wow big post tam :lol: I used cloth with Jack good ole flats had every intention to with luke even bought some funky MCN covers but he bloody soaks thru them in 1/2 hr :lol: so we decided to stick to disp...we are lucky and can afford to buy in bulk when on sale etc.. so currently have 7 boxes of huggies 6-11kgs ready to go they seem a bit big so been using snugglers up to 8kg at moment

I know what you hubby means about leaving bubs Jack was 3 weeks shy of 2 yrs when I left him with someone besides Jase and even when I left him with Jase was nly 2 times where it was longer than 1/2 hr :lol: even now at 3 yrs 3mths he has only stayed with someone other than jase 3 x with friends (2x so I could get hair done 3hrs each) (1x for lukes needles 45min) and with my mum 2 times while I had OB appoint 1hr each, and with Jase folks 2 times :lol: maybe 1hr each there as well Luke I hope will besame .... unless we can't take him to work dinner in feb then I may have to be brave and leave him

now i feel like a horrible mother, i leave miss A with MIL all the time...
when DH is at work its just me and her and sometimes it gets really hard.

oh stevie no your not, its a each to their own .... when it comes to leaving kids, babysitting child care etc, for me personally I have the luxury of being a SAHM and wife, so I dont see the need for others to watch my kids, or the need, but that said I dont have a problem with people leaving their kids with others...

Stevie you are not a bad mum for leaving A!!!!! Every mum is different and your situation is very different because you are alone with her so much you need a break. it's different when DH is home each afternoon to give me a break.

Rach... i too have 6 boxes of crawler nappies in the cupboard cos i stock up. But ATM we are using the infant size since i find the crawlers too big... it is the infant ones that made me think about the cost... $20 for 48 nappies. i just thought that perhaps i could reduce the cost slightly from a longer term perspective..... we'll see how i go!

Nice big post Tam, sounds like everything is going quite well for you and Eli. It is always really hard to leave your baby for any amount of time. I remember a couple of weeks ago I felt like I was going stir crazy and just needed to get out of the house and do something for myself, by myself. I went shopping and left Leila with DH but I fretted the whole time and couldn't shop because my mind was a mess! But it does get easier and child care on Monday was not too bad, probably because I was comfortable with the centre and i knew I could go and get her at any time if I wanted to.

Stevie, don't feel bad. If I had my relo's around I would probably take advantage of it and get them to look after Leila for me when I needed to do stuff. Unfortunately I dont have anyone around to be able to do that with.

As for nappies, I'm a cloth nappy user. For me it was an issue of $$ but more importantly an environmental concern as DH & I try to be quite green where we can. We have a water tank hooked up to the laundry and get plenty or rain so we figured cloth would be the way to go as we dont have water issues (need to wash a lot when using cloth obviously). I use 'bum genius' as they were recommended to me and I find them absolutely fantastic. They are adjustable so can be used from newborn up to when they stop wearing nappies and they have different sized inserts. At the moment I'm using the small newborn inserts but sometimes she wets through them so I'll have to start using the bigger ones. For us they are great but I guess you need to be prepared to wash every second day or so. But, we still use disposables sometimes as they are just so convenient - so if we go out we use them so we don't have to carry around dirty cloth ones but the vast majortity of the time we are cloth users and we love it!

Ok, so is anyone else finding that their little one wants to/tries to move? Leila has been a wriggler for some time but I always thought that she was simply wriggling and squirming and moving because of all the wriggling and squirming (so movement was more accidental than anything else). In the past couple of days I've noticed that she actually wants to move and tries her hardest to get from A to B. When I put her down on her matt for tummy time she instantly pushes herself up, gets fixated on something in the room and tries like you wouldn't beleive to get to whatever it is she's fixated on. Amazingly, she actually can move a little bit! She tries to push with her legs and move her arms to pull herself along, at this stage of course she doesn't have the strength to move too much but it certainly doesn't stop her from trying! This morning when I was holding her she was looking over my shoulder at something and tried to 'climb' over me to get at. It's really funny because even though she had moved before I thought it was accidently but now she's definitely moving very deliberately. The best news about this is that she is tiring herself out so much so the last 2 nights she has slept for 9 hours straight :dance:

oh yeah Luke is a mover he goes from one end of his cot to the other turns around and goes back down the end again :lol: he sleeps on his belly so guess that has a lot to do with it, he also pushes up on his hands like you wouldn't beleive such strength

Oh i know no one was calling me a bad mum for leaving miss A, but sometimes i really do get the guilts for doing it but she's such a good baby, they never have any problems.. except the other night we went and seen Avatar (awesome movies btw) and apparently she screamed for awhile, they tried everything and then gave her some panandol then she finaly went to sleep. i picke dher up at 930 and took her home and put her straight to bed i didnt wake her for a feed coz i figured she's wake when she's ready then she slept til 6am (not sure what time they put her down) but she was fine, her smiley self. i called MIL and told her how sorry i was, i truelly felt so bad, but like she said Alissa never does that so there must have been something wrong, she wasnt mad or anything just worried if she was ok. so i havent left her with them since lol. plus FIL has to go and have surgery soon :( he's got 2 bits of bone floating around near his spine (just below the base of his skull) its all very stressful :(
Have decided to go back to work in late march early April, of course it will all depend on FILs recovery theres no way ill have them look after her if he's not well (purely i dont want to lay extra stress on them)
As for nappies, im thinking of going cloth just for around home, we're using huggies NBs atm her little bum is too small for snugglers atm and i hate the babylove nappies :( wont be long til she fits in snugglers, they still arent as good as huggies (they rock lol) but they are so expensive :(
what cloth nappies would guys recomend? i wash everyday (almost) anyway, should i just go with the old fashioned terrys? do i need covers, after all it will just be at home and i really dont mind what they look like lol. will still use disposables when we're out and probably at night time. Do cloth nappies make them more prone to nappy rash and things like that? do you use liners to stop that? or its enevatable?
Maybe i should look for a thread LOL...
anyway ladies, am off to print some photo out, i couldnt believe it but i have over 900 pics of just Alissa already >.< she wont be a baby forever tho, so im getting at many as i can ;) oh and i dont get them all printed LOL

Yep, I reckon the belly sleeping helps a lot with their strength ;)

Stevie, I use bum genius modern cloth nappies but there are literally heaps out there to choose from. I use those ones becasue they were recommended to me. I think they are more expensive than some brands but they are adjustable so you dont have to buy new ones as they get bigger plus they are just so easy. they are like a disposable, all i do is put the isert in and put them on just like the disposables, no folding or pins or anything like the old ones just velcro the same as the sticky tabs on disposables. maybe just google modern cloth nappies and see what's out there and what ones you might want to use. Not too sure about the nappy rash, all I can say is the Leila has never had even a hint of nappy rash or irritation on her, but now that she is sleeping much longer at night I have started using disposable at night simply because they draw the moisture away much more effectively and I want her to stay as dry as possible if she's not getting changed for an extended period of time.

personally Stevie if you want to go cloth I would go the flats but yes you need covers I got some great ones that go from newborn to 15kgs so you get great use out of them while mcn look funky etc they are $$ initialy and man they take a while to dry flats hr in drier and they are done

i can't beleive miss alissa is still in nb she must be teeny tiny i am quite happy with snugglers a luke is a huge wee'r the ones in box from big w do seem better than the soft packs :dunno:

Fi i would love to try the more modern cloth nappies, DH and i were going to do it before she wasborn, but we decided to wait til she was born and then test some on her but we have never got around to it.
rach, i was thinking of going flats, i have heaps that i got for spew rags, and i just need to get pins? and covers? do you use liners in those?

yeah, miss A is only just still fitting NBs she's very long but quite slender. Dh keeps saying how "skinny" she is and it makes me sad :( we dont have a skinny baby.. she's just perfect ;)

oh and i ment to say before, Miss A has started moving around heaps, she prefers to be on her back (so i dont give her anywhere near a\enough tummy time :redface: ) but i WILL start to, she lov sbeing on her back. she pushes herself all over the place with her feet scooting around. in her cot she keeps ending up sideway LOL
Also she's not sleeping as well in her cot as she was in her bassinett, am i doing smething wrong? i was going to put her back in her bassinett but Dh rekons not to confuse her and just leave her in her cot. she sleeps, but just not for as long...

i used just home brand disposable liners, with jack just the cheap covers from kmart big w target ...not pilchers...google wonder wraps one size pul covers fantastic $18 each but if you interested i have 3 you can have for $14 each +postage only used them 2-3 times and one of them once

OMG - cannot believe it.. i just wrote you this nice comprehensive reply Stevie to all your questions (because i just spent the last 2 weeks researching the same thing) and it's gone!

I searched for threads re MCN's to find brands that other mum's recommended as well as product reviews on websites and ended up narrowing it down to 2 brands - Baby Beehinds and Itti Bitti. Both brands seemed to get great reviews for being easy to use (and even dad's could use them), adjustable sizing so they last longer and no leaks.

After looking at both brands i went with Itti Bitti but solely because i liked the colours available (similar pricing).

I did find that most people recommended using an MCN which has bamboo inserts... they are very absorbent so will draw away the moisture and help avoid the dreaded nappy rash. the other popular option available is hemp inserts but i have heard a few people say that these can smell when wet so i decided to avoid them.

Today has only been my first day using them but he has had 2 HUGE pooing incidents and they have passed the test with flying colours.

I will still be using disposables at night (he sleeps for so long that i don't want to chance leakage) and when we are out for convenience.
