Evening ladies,
its been awefully quiet in here, i hope that everyone is doing well :)
All is good here, i start my "parenting class" tomorrow, im actually pretty excited, In real life im not real good at meeting people and im only really social with my close friends, but being couped up in a house for 3 months, i cant wait to meet some mummies with bubbies close to Miss A's age, dont get me wrong i love being with Miss A but i really do miss adult conversation, same age adult conversation i should say (i see MIL alot but its not the same iykwim)
anyway i had Miss A weighed today, she's 4.940kg and 60cm long, i think she's longer than that (last time i went they measured her at 57cm but the time before that she was 57.5cm LOL) i have a super long baby, i hope she has nice long legs when she grows up, unlike her mother :( lol i could have got her weighed tomorrow at the class but i was a bit worried i felt this bone in her chest but the nurse said its normal and if she didnt have one then we's worry lol.
I have a question, remember how i said Miss A screamed MILs house down when i left her there the night i went to the movies, well i went there the other day and she did the saem thing, she was fine before i got there, she was actually in a really good mood, being a little chatter box and all smiles :) then we got there and she just stated screaming, it wasnt even a cry.. it was a scream, i went outside and had to calm her down out there, i came back in fed her (more to comfort than to feed really) she fnished i handed her to MIL and she started again, REALLY SCREAMING!! so i calmed her again, and she was fine for a little bit then MIL came and picked her up and she started again, i felt so aweful coz MIL was saying things like "she doesnt like me anymore" and she (MIL) was actually getting really hurt, so i left then and there i felt so bad, and as soon as we got in the car... angel. When we got home you wouldnt have even thought she was screaming the place down before, she was back to herself. i just dont know.
I just got back from there then, she had a couple of moments but not too bad, MIL offered to look after her while i did some chores, but i wasnt really keen on it, i did leave her there tho and MIL said she was fine. i asked the nurse she said it might just be that everytime i go up there i leave her and maybe she's worried you'll leave her there. But the thing is i dont leave her there everytime, maybe every third time or something, but she has to get used to it thats part of the reason i started doing it coz when i go back to work MIL will be looking after her (as well as FIL and SIL who live there) im just scared that i started leaving her too younge and its had a bad reaction on her :( my question is, does anyone have any ideas about what this could be ? lol or has this happeed to anyone else and it all turned out to be nothing?>
anyway sorry about the ramble, best go and get some things doen lol
g'night my dears xxx

It has been very quiet.... Although I guess it is the holiday time of year so a few ppl are away or have been away...
Don't feel bad Stevie - you didn't leave A too early or anything like that. She's prob just a sensitive little girl and as you said, is scared that she will be left there and you won't be back.
I bet your MIL felt terrible too... If it was me I would be questioning if I had done something to her to make her upset/not want to stay. :( I hope she is feeling ok too.
I hope your mothers group went well - it is really important to have adult conversation for your own sanity. Especially for you since DH is away a lot.
I haven't joined one, but do have lunch/coffee regularly with a few of the girls from my antenatal group which is nice... We generally catch up every 2 weeks but I make sure I also meet with work friends etc too so I have plenty of adult contact!
Hopefully a few more ppl will visit in here soon. Actually I haven't seen Jellybean in here for a while... Has anyone heard from her? I hope everything is ok.
Xxx.

just an update,
the mothers group was really good :) met some lovely ladies there. SOO many cute babies too xx
the lady that ran it was really helpful, she said she wasnt a lactation lady but she would see how im going with Miss A's attachment. so we went over it again, im feeling a little more confident.
hearing al the ladies pregnancy and birth stories really made me see how lucky i was to have such an awesome pg and birth (apart from getting whooping cough) i told them that id give birth 100 times over before i got whooping cough again, some of the mothers almost fainted at the idea LOL.
anyway Miss A is getting good at self settling, i can just feed her and lay her down when i see she's getting tired and she'll go to sleep :) im so proud of her.
have a good day girl

Stevie - After seeing your FB post yesterday that Miss A self settled i did some reading on options to teach E to self settle. E can self settle on occasion but i would like him to be able to do it regularly.
I tried a no cry settling option which was possibly more time consuming but i feel better not making him cry it out. Basically i wrapped him and put him into bed with his mobile music on and night light and just patted him for about 10 mins to get him settled initially and then patted only when he was getting unsettled... i did this until he went to sleep which took an hour! That's the good news....
The bad news is that i let him have his dummy while he went to sleep but took it out when he was asleep.... i figure i will teach him one thing at a time and will take the dummy away in a month or so (i will still let him have it sometimes during the day just not to go to sleep). He still slept through the night which i figured was the main thing.
I have put him down for 2 naps today and he has required only min touching from me to settle him to sleep... this morning he only napped for 45 mins and i have just put him down again 10 mins ago. Unfortunately E doesn't sleep well during the day but i guess he makes up for it with night time sleeping.
#############
When i was reading about settling techniques i read that bubs our age should be sleeping approx 16 hours p/day with 12 of these at night broken by feeds and 4 during day. Just wondering what other bubs sleep because E doesn't sleep anywhere near this really....
E sleeps approx 9 hours at night and would nap during the day for approx 1-2 hours. What am i doing wrong that he doesn't sleep enough?
Hope everything is going well for the ladies that are missing lately... the Rach's and Boomba and JB (who i haven't heard in here for a while now).....

Hello ladies!!!!
We've missed you....
-
And I've just not bothered putting anything because I've had nothing important enough to report on. That, and the last time I said something it was totally ignored - Which made me think that I should leave because no-one was listening to me or talking to me.
I'm off anyway, gotta go enjoy the rest of my holiday

hello ladies xxx good to see you in here :) Life is very busy, so im not surprised we're all so quiet!!
Tam, like i said on FB ididnt really teach Miss A, just the other night i fed her and i started to cuddle her on the couch (which used to be our routine of getting her to sleep) but she didnt want to cuddle but i could see she was tired, so i put her in her cot not really thinking she would go to sleep, she was making noises, just soft talking or yelling out (like a "hey- where'd you go?" type yell out lol) and she eventually dropped off, id say its been about 10-15 mins each time if that, tonight will be the 4th night in a row she's done it :)
As far as how much she sleeps, going off your info Miss A doeesnt get enough sleep either. She sleeps once maybe twice a day if im lucky, and its usually no more that 45-to an hour, if she's sleeping in her swing she could sleep for hours and hours, but as soon as i turn it off she wakes up almost straight away, its weird.
At night its about (now that she's in her cot anyway) she sleeps from about 8.30 to 1-2am then feed and back down til about 5-6 which is when i put her in bad with me and i try and stay there for as long as i can without her cracking it, sometimes she goes back to sleep for an hour sometimes not.
One of my friends had her bub this morning, oh how i love newborn snuggles, i thought Miss A was still tiny but compared to baby Skye, she is a monster lol. Lucky thing had a 3 hour labour with no stitches.. so jealous lol.
anyway Miss A is asleep now so i think its bed time for mummy to ;)
Night ladies xxx

Aww LJ how could we ignore oyu hunny we love you! I think we are all busy and sometimes forget to reply I know I have done it lots of times! I love hearing how your gorgesou little William is going! Pleas ekeep posting :)
Stevie hun I am sure Miss A just wants to stay wiht you...its not your MIL its just that she has probably realised she is out in the world and loves her mum :) Your doing a great job and so glad you hd a nice time at MG
Tammie I wouldnt try to worry to much about counting hours of sleep...if he is happy and conmtent then he is getting enough sleep...do you ahve a swing or baby carrier? He may sleep longer in them? Your doing a top job and he is adorable!
Who was asking about cloth nappies? We use bumgs, ittibittis, mini lalas and a few others. We love our clothies! Although Flynn has been in sposies cause i was too slack wiht the washing lol!
Not much happening here...needles done, he is a big healthy 6.8kgs! He giggles all the time and is such a happy little man/
Big hugs to all our mummies and bubs xxxx

LJ, you posted when i did..
im not ignoring you sweet, and honestly i dont think any of us are, like Boomba said, theres so much going on with all of us, and we loose track of time, i forget who ive replied to and somtimes i miss peoples posts all together.
and yes, we love hearing about lil William, so please dont stop posting, and please dont go anywhere.. we lub you xx
-
Definitely not ignoring you LJ! I guess it's just been crazy over Xmas new year period... I know I missed about 2 weeks online.
I am generally not very good at replying to posts either...I seem to have a memory likea sieve sometimes. Sorry to everyone for that lol! But we would love to hear from you more LJ. :)
I type this as I sit by E's cot... Trying to get him to nap without cuddles... But this is just as time consuming!
Anybody have any suggestions for getting him to settle himself (with minimal crying if possble... A little crying is ok but I don't think I am up for controlled crying techniques or I will cry too!).
-
Tammie hun he is still so little trust me you can rock him to sleep still he wont get dependant on it. You ahve to do what your heart tells you to do...dont worry about books or what someone else is telling you to do do what your heart tells you..if it doesnt feel right then dont do it...if you want to cuddle him to sleep do it..i know I love to be cuddled to sleep so why shouldnt our babies! Flynn naps in his swing or on me still...trust me they ahve a whole lifetime to slep wihtout you enjoy it while you can! xxxx
-
:yeahthat:
id still be rocking/cuddling Miss A to sleep but she doesnt seem to like it at the moment.. but babies change so much so often that tonight she might want cuddles ;)
Miss A generally naps on me too during the day (or whoever is holding her) when she's up at MIL she loves to be in the sling (but she doesnt like it when i use the sling, i think this is because im smaller and boneir and its not as comfortable or as snuggly, she sits really awkward when im using the sling) so MIL will take her for walk in her garden and Miss A could sleep for hours like that lol.
-
Yay, just when I thought we'd all slipped into a black hole we're back!
Great to hear from everyone.
Stevie, so good that your mothers group went well and nice weight gain for Miss A :D As for the crying at MIL let's just hope it passes! My mum said I went through a stage where I used to scream whenever someone else looked after me but it was only for a short time and then I got over it and was fine. I'm sure she will settle down soon.
Tammie and Stevie, I wouldn't stress too much about the hours of sleep your bubs are having. If they are happy enough and don't seem to need more sleep then don't force it, we are all different and some of us require more sleep and other less. What you read in book etc is really just a guide and you will know if your little one isn't getting enough sleep.
Good on you for those moving on to self settling, if it works then that is great. I still give Leila a little help going to sleep but usually if she stirs during her sleep she puts herself back to sleep which is great, I used to have to go in and resettle her which was quite time consuming. But in order to get her to sleep she needs to be wrapped and patted and given cuddles etc and I don't mind at all. Although lately she's been rather challenging when it comes to sleep time and yesterday and last night she simply wouldn't sleep. I tried everything that I normally do but it just wouldn't work and I was really at my witts end because she was getting so sooky and cranky from being overtired but wouldn't go to sleep :wall: I find it so hard when she gets like that and DH was no help so we ended up having a big fight then I started to get really frustrated with Leila which was not good at all so then I felt like a horrible mother. It was really really hard and because she has been so good for so long I had almost forgotten how hard it can be....
Boomba sounds like your little man is thriving!!
LJ great to see you back in here. Please don't take it personally if people don't reply to your posts, its not that anyone is ignorning you and it makes me feel bad to think that you feel that way. We are all so busy. I know I post sometimes and noone seems to acknowledge what I have said and it can be frustrating if you have acutally asked for advice or something, but it's not that anyone is ignorning me or you or anyone else it's just that time slips away from us and sometimes things get missed. How is little William going? I hope it's all going well and I look forward to hearing about his progress.
Aside from having a very challenging day and night yesterday things have been really good here. Leila has been sleeping 9 hours most nights and is going to child care for a couple of hours twice a week which is going well so I'm feeling ok about going back to work in February. Of course I would rather take longer off but the mortgage wont pay itself  I had morning tea with a couple of local mums today which was really nice, I have to get out and do it more often its just so hard to find the time...
Hi to DM, Rach x 2, Jellybean and everyone else!

-
Fi - I hear what you are saying with the sleeping issues at the moment... that is kind of what started my crusade to help him settle better.
It was like one day he just started throwing himself around when we were trying to put him to sleep and it was making him hot and sticky and we were getting frustrated by it (especially me cos like you i sometimes feel as though DH could help more)
Hi to everyone and i am glad we are all back - i've gtg E has just started crying.
-
AAAAAAAGGGGRRRRRRRRR! Why does Lucy hate the car so much!!! I have tried EVERYTHING!!! No other child I know hates the car!
The poor little thing cries the HOLE time we're in the car :( I dont know what to do! Cant take it anymore. By the time I get to where Im going, Im a nervous reck from her crying so much!
-
DM :comfort: I wish I had some wonderful piece of advice for you but I don't... all I can tell you is that Leila used to HATE the pram! Everyone used to tell me to take her for a walk in the pram when she was unsettled and all it did was make her hysterical. When she was in a good mood she screamed as well and only seemed to tolerate it if I went over rough ground, I'm sure all of my neighbours think I'm a nutcase the way I used to push the pram over all the bumpy surfaces I could find! Then one day, all of a sudden she decided that she quite liked the pram. I don't know why, as far as I could tell nothing had changed yet she just stopped screaming every time I put her in it. I really hope Lucy settles down soon. Have you tried playing soothing music? Does her car seat have any toys hanging from it that she can watch or even touch while driving?
