Babies born~October 16th-31st 2009 #3

Thanks Rach I'm just at my wits end!! Its drives me nuts that John tries to settle her at night and she carries on and screams the house down like something is terribly wrong yet as soon as I take her she's all smiles :wall: I really hope we have some success. I know its going to be really tough but its tough now so how much worse can it get?? Yeah stupid hives, I got some antihistamines this morning to settle them down - of course the ones I had at home yesterday were not suitable if breastfeeding so I couldn't take anything yesterday just had a bath in pinetarsil (sp??) which did help relieve the swelling and itching but it was no fun at all having huge hives over my entire body. Does anyone watch The Simpsons? I need to go to Rancho Relaxo!! :lol:

Well I have some good news to report. Since adopting some new strategies with Leila on Friday we have had a huge improvement and she has slept through every night, had better day sleeps and gnerally just been a much happier baby. I am amazed with the results and honestly, I have hardly had to let her cry at all. I think the key has been not picking her up all the time as this was only reinforcing her behaviour. I still comfort and reassure her, I just dont pick her up every time she gets upset. Who would of thought it would be so simple!!

Helllllllooooo lovly ladies!!!! Ok well Fi- spill! How do you do it! The only time I get a full nights sleep is when Lucy is in bed with us. Which mind you I dont sleep properly, to scared Ill roll on her:-/

Hey Kass great to see you in here again! I'm the same, can't sleep with Leila. Ok, so all I have done is stop fussing when she gets herslef worked up. I used to think there was something wrong with her, like she was crying because she was teething or because she had a bit of a cold or whatever so i used to try and fix the problem but I finally realised that there is no problem - she's just so used to me comforting her and wanted it all the time. So now when I put her to bed and she wont settle I pat her for a minute and try to get her to sleep then leave the room. Then she'll start crying! But I leave her, no matter how upset she is, usually for between 2-4 minutes depending on how upset she is (just crying or really screaming!) then I go back in and reassure her, pat her and tell her its time to go to sleep. She stops crying as soon as I go in! Then when I leave she starts crying again :wall: So I wait for maybe 4-8 minutes then go in again and do the same thing. She usually goes to sleep then or cries again but puts herself to sleep before I have to go back in. Then she is sleeping all night. It's really hard to listen to her scream and not pick her up but as you can see its really only for a few minutes and she seems much more settled in the long run so I guess it's worth it.

well luke is finally sleeping thru again he does stir around 4am but i give a quick pat readjust bedding he usually sleeps till 6am then i pull him into our bed as jase is off to work then and we have been sleeping till 7.30am :dance: i can't reme,ber if i mentioned it before but luke is officially cruising along the furniture :shock:

Rach, Leila has been walking along the couch, coffee table, chairs - you name it for weeks now! She has a walker too which she sometimes pushes around but I don't give it to her very often. Mostly she just walks from one length of the couch to the other then back again and can turn around and reach out for the coffee table and cruise over there too. It's very impressive but I haven't bothered to report much in case those with less moble babies get upset. I think she will be walking on her own very soon.

Welcome goddessofdawn :D Leila was born on the 30th.

We just had a trip to Melbourne to visit my family which was really lovely. Leila travelled well and had a great time with her relatives. It's so hard being so far away from them!! We are all going ok although Leila has another cold :wall: She just got over a nasty cold / cough which she ended up needing antibiotics for. I don't know if I should take her to the doctors again or not.

I have just weaned Leila. I have very mixed feelings about it. BF was going well but it was taking its toll on me. I'm 5kg lighter than before I got preg and I was pretty slim pre preg, certainly didn't need to lose any weight so now I'm looking pretty skinny. As you know I've been struggling with mild PND and chronic insomnia and there's been nothing I could do about it because as you know you can't really take anything when BF. I finally went to my GP who recommended some medication which I didn't want to take but I've really been struggling and sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy so I thought I probably should. It was really hard to admit that I needed help. I feel quite ashamed. I feel guitly that I've had to wean Leila because I'm not coping and I'm worried about what will happen with baby #2 when we decide to have another one :( Hopefully I will start to feel better soon and I will be able to put things into perspective. Sorry for pouring my heart out!! It's just nice to have somewhere to openly talk about how I feel and whats going on.

Kass - all I can say is that Leila actually cries a hundred times less since I've been using controlled crying!! I can't explain why. She used to cry and be unsettled and want me all night now she might cry for a minute or a few minutes then settles and doesn't need me and is sooo much happier. It's quite strange - when I didn't want her to cry she would cry all night, now I let her have a little cry and she hardly cries at all!! I hope Lucy starts to sleep better for you soon.

As for admitting something is not quite right makes you a better mum. Instead of suffering in silence which is when **** can hit the fan kwim?:)
So good on you! As for when you have another, my gosh woman things will be settled then:) You'll have everything worked out and things have there own way of falling into place:)

Well everybody I have super fantastic news!! I don't have to wean Leila!! :dance: I spoke to a friend the other day and told her how I'd gone on medication and had to wean Leila and how upset I was about it. Anyway she is about to have her second baby and had a lot of trouble BF her first so has been reading up and read in an ABA book that most antidepressants are safe to take and she gave me the number of a helpline to ring as they tell you what you can & cant take. They said my medication was perfectly safe to take, especially with a baby as old as Leila! Woo hoo!!!!!! Now I don't have to feel guilty about weaning her because I had to go on meds - thankfully I had still been expressing a little and my milk hadn't dried up. I'm really happy.

Fi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing news!!!! I ring a certain number when ever Im unsure about medication that Im about to take! It's amazing how wronge we get it! MOST medication is perfectly safe to take while feeding:)

I have just moved Lucy out of our room into a room with Annabelle. Mind you she is still in our bed by the morning haha Both Annabelle and Lucy are lol

Saw the health nurse the other day. All is well Lucy is a tiny bubba as I do breed teeny ones lol
Still breastfeeding nice and stronge. Still a clingy baby, which I sometime whine about, but really wouldn't have any other way haha

We have just under two and a half yr gap between our girls and its perfect;) I wouldn't want any furthur apart:)
We will asses it again when Lucy is over 1yr. 18 months or so. Annabelle was 18 months when I fell pg with Lucy;)

I've been a bit slack with BB lately been suffering headaches and dealing with Jacks tantrums...

Kass I would go back now if jase said lets go again, we started TTC when Jack was 3 mths old but we dont fall pg easily, Luke was my surprise baby I had given up in the dec (08) decided we were happy with Jack and our tiny angel Katy then wow out of no where we fell naturally with Luke

Starting to wonder if I'm the only one that's happy to wait till DS is 2-3yrs old before we even think bout trying... Although with all the friends of mine that are having kids, it is kinda making me a little clucky

Rach- maybe let things that there course, and another surprise might happen???

Liz - nice to see you in here! Everybody will be ready for more babies at different times and origianlly I had thought that 3 years in between would be good but sadly I am not getting any younger and things don't always go according to plan which is why I will probably ttc earlier. I hope you are feeling better these days.

Rach - I think that is a good attitude. If you have to go through fertility stuff if can be very stressful. We were a bit like you and fell naturally and easily with Leila but prior attempts were not so successful and when I did fall the first time it was through clomid. I really don't want to do that again so I'm hoping for another natural surprise!!

Well poor Leila has been so out of sorts lately. I was at my witts end with her not knowing what was wrong finally I took her to the doctors, expecting them to tell me she was just teething or had a virus or something. Turns out she has a really bad ear infection. Poor little thing, now I feel terrible for not realising sooner that something was really wrong :( We have an appointment with the health nurse this morning so I'll log back on later to give you all the stats on my little girl.

great report from the health nurse, Leila is doing just wonderfully! She's 8.7kg and 72cm long and aside from the ear infection is a very happy, healthy little girl :dance:

WTG Leila I missed our appoint last week I thought it was thurs but it was wed :doh: oh well am seeing her end of month, I know when I last weighed luke about 3 weeks ago he was 10.2kg my big ole boofie boy

A big hello to all i missed. Evangeline is going well. 10mths old now - WOW. Have to take her back to the docs to get her little head checked again. Can't win, Ethan had a massive head and now she has this tiny head.
Anyone elses baby extremly flexiable??? Evangeline sits a little weird to me, and she spread her legs dead straight, like the spilts. Maybe just a parnoid mummy here :redface:

Funny you say that about Evangeline's flexability! My friends baby has crzy legs like that! Sitting is like the splits AND she can move her legs around, like the joint isn't even there!
Completely normal this little girl! Get Evie in the circus or acrobats when she's older :lol:

Well hello there strangers!!
Sorry i havent been around, as most of you know my computer was broken and DH only fixed it last weekend after months of it just sitting here, i actually gave up hope that i would ever have my own computer back (i hate hate hate using his lol) anyway i wont be able to go through and do personals, i missed out out on so much, i did briefly skim though them tho, so im kind of up to date lol.
Well we've been having the big "baby #2" debate in our house, my mind changes all the time, the only thing that DH is set on is that he does want another one just not yet (or anytime in the near future) lol he wants to do some travelling and enjoy Alissa being older, i sway between wanting one soon and wanting to wait till she's about 2 before i even start TTC, as she gets older im starting to get a bot more flexibilty with her and the things that we can do (as a family and such) so part of me wants to enjoy this for as long as i can without putting too many years between them, that sounds so selfish i know lol. I really think we'll be waiting till probably the middle of next year maybe even the end of 2011 before we even look at TTC. and it def is a "each to their own" thing, whatever works for the individual :)
well to my embarressment and ABSOLUTE horror i found out on monday (after taking in some stool samples for Alissa after she had some seriously nasty diarroah) that my little baby had Selmonella .. just Kill me now!! I wanted the world to open up and swollow me.. i felt like the WORST mum in the world. The worst part is i am so anal with anything that i put into her little mouth that i cant undrestand how she got it. BUT i think i know where she got it from, i think she got it from her Nans place she's up there an aweful lot (while im owrking and such) and i think its soemthing i fed them, FIL does the "reduced" shopping thing, where he goes in before they close and gets all the half priced stuff, which is ok i dont mind that (i personally dont eat there alot for that reason) and ive asked them to be careful with what they give her but she still manage to get sick :( i am still so wracked with guild, ive barely told anyone she has it, i just havent been anywhere (not to mums group or my friends places) i told one of the mums who is one of my good friends now but asked her not to say anything coz i am so embarressed :crying: but the Dr put her on meds and now she is sooo much better. I asked if she had it really bad and he said no, coz she was so alert and so much herself (but she wasnt, if that makes sense, i guess coz im with her so much i could see she was a little off still) and he said she's eating normally and such and that by the ime the course of the meds are done she will be better. but i still worry about her. and that ive caused some serious permanent damage to my baby :(
anyway ill have to come back i have child that needs my 100% attention LOL

Rach2281 - hey stranger!!! Great to see you in here again. Leila has a small head too, hers is very narrow and has always been below the 50% percentile (with everything else she's over, around 75%) but finally at her last check up it's started to catch up and was becoming more in proportion! the helath nurse has never been worried though as she said she just has a narrow head, which I do too.

Kas - I really hope Lucy starts sleeping at night for you!! It's amazing isn't it, you just have no idea how they can survive when they don't sleep and yet they do! Leila goes through stages like that and I just don't know how she functions. I don't know what to suggest but I hope things settle down soon.

I'm off to Sydney soon to do the city2surf fun run tomorrow - yay! Will more likely be a fun 'walk' though as I haven't done enough training!!

Yep Kas, her soft spot closed over very early, at her 6mth check it was already closed. So i think after Lilli, they monitor Evangeline even closer. They just need to make sure her brain has enough room to grow in, i think thats what the doc said, i get so blazzay in there. So her head is only 42.1cm at 10mths, its grown, but not at the rate as her lenghth if that makes sense?

Anyway im off to spotlight today, fund a new sewing bug lol

oh stevie :comfort: you are not a bad mummy, I know it feels like it but no way are you, she could have got anything, she may not have got it from food maybe she picked something up on floor and ate it, Luke OMG ate a bug of some sought last week at agnes all we found was a leg hanging out of his mouth :lol: well not funny but it was at same time....I know with Jack I was fanatical with cleanliness and food etc, but with luke I am a little less stressed if he eats a bit of dirt or a leaf oh well :lol:
