Hi girls, just a quick hi, I feel awful not posting much, just soooo exhausted atm. For those wo have had more than 1, when does the exhaustion start to lift? Ella is 2 weeks old now!
erybery - I am a first time mum so don't have to juggle 2 but DD is 9 weeks old now and whilst I am not exhausted (anymore) there are days when I just say phooey to everything and either sit on puter pretty much all day (usually days when DD is a velcro baby) or we have a bed day. I dread to think what I would ever be like if/when we have 2
Erybery I think I have been exhausted since my DD was born in May 2006!..... No only kidding... Once you get aquainted with your bub and are in a proper routine things pick up. You either get used to being exhausted, andcan handle less sleep. My advice. Sleep when bubbs is sleeping. I wish I did that with Katy (never did) and now that Josh is a good little sleeper wish I could sleep.... but I have a 3 1/2 year old in my ear which makes it impossible....
Hang in there.... Here to chat if you need me
Erbery - I think the worst thing about sleep deprivation is getting used to it in the early days. Having broken sleep for weeks on end gets to me, but I find it peaks at around the 2 - 3 week mark and then my body starts to deal with having broken sleep every night. That's just me though, everyone is different. Usually by the time my babies have been between 6 and 12 weeks old they start to get into a better routine, feeding is quicker and they can settle themselves to sleep to a degree so things become much easier. I have only had experience with my babies though, I don't know if that is everyone's experience.
Hi All,
Will try a quick post before Jaida wakes for a feed
Welcome Nina and Henri
Henri - your question about vomitting came up at my last mothers group. The childcare nurse said that althought it generally appears that bub has thrown up alot it would probably amount to no more than a tablespoon and therefore thinking that bubs tummy is now empty is generally not the case. I would just go with what bub wants - I am sure you will figure out the pattern soon enough
Lisa - great to hear the TT is fixed and how frustrating to think the instincts of a mother are still ignored these days.
Erybery - exhaustion - I hear you. I have good days and bad. Jaida is nearly 4 weeks now so we are developing a slight routine. Jaida quite kindly has a 5 hour sleep after her bath at night so I take full advantage and catch up on sleep then. Its nice having 3-4 hours in a row. Hopefully your bub will do this in a few weeks. DH is also responsible for settling Jaida after her 7am ish feed so I can have another hour or so. Sleep where you can ignoring the housework and the TV (I found that I still want to watch my fav programs but this was killing me so I go without or tape them)
AFM - BF is much better this week and a routine is being established (i hope). Jaida still feed 3 hourly during the day but has a big sleep from 7pm - 12pm-1am. Jaida also slept from 1am to 6am the other night - bliss. Hoping she likes this idea and keeps it going.
Jaida was also weighed and she had gained 800gms in a fortnight - my little porker :)
Anyone experiencing sore ovaries?? I am guessing the pain is ovary pain atleast it is in the same position. Hope I am not about to start ovulating again :(
hey ladiesss:)
sorry i havent posted much lately. who woulda known being a mother would be hard!
glad to see all your precious bubs are doing great, i am pysically exhaused.
trying to orginize a wedding, and a new born= very limited sleep!
Oscar has decided he hates sleeping and he hates dummies so im very very emotional atm. My visitors have finally died down so im hoping it starts getting better :)
i put a few pics of him in my gallery if you wanna go have a peek :)
Love Brooke.x
Brooke - we can only have one ticker as per forum guidelines. You will need to remove one or risk an infraction from one of the Mods.
Not much going on here... am organising Caitlin's christening which will be in Feb 2010 as that was the first date available. Need to get invites out to family who aren't local so they have the best chance of being able to attend.
Hope you and your bubs are all well xox
Hi girls thanks for the warm welcome, sorry I havent been in much but we have been living in "Colic County" for the last week and it hasnt been fun. I think I have found the solution though I bought a Hug a Bub and it has been a lifesaver...she is settled, upright and falls straight to sleep and I can still function and do stuff for the other 3. It has been a real eye opener for me, my other 3 were the best babies just ate and slept but this one is so demanding, wont sleep in her cot so she is co sleeping with me, is fussy and colicy and is a real cling on...my mum reckons it is her revenge cause I was exactly the same way apparently lol. But she is my last baby so I guess I will just ride the wave cause I know it will get better, this is just the settling in period and in a month or 2 it will all be a distant memory.....I hope lol!!!
I hope everyone is doing well and coping ok with the sleep deprivation and cracked nipples the things we do for our kids huh...lucky we love the little beggars so much xxx
Have a great day xx
Hi girls, I hear you Nina! I just can't believe how long it takes to get ella settled after a feed. The doc has told me to give her 1ml of mylanta before a feed to see if it helps as she thinks she has reflux and the acid is distressing her! So hoping it works out.
Hey mummies, how is it all going?? Have been feeling naughty for not getting on here to see how you are all doing and not a heap of posting going on so obviously you are all pretty busy with bubs too!!!
Easha - thanks for feedback re feeding after vomiting. I have found that seems to be the way, she still seems at least moderately satisfied with a feed even if sick...the pr.vom has settled down a bit, maybe once every second day. Laughed about the tv, i too was having that temptation, watching 3/4 of a show whilst feeding and wanting to watch the rest but knowing its just silly and i should go to bed!!! My life has been changed remarkably in the last week due to the installation of foxtel IQ!!! OMG this is the best invention (after beautiful bubbas of course!!) It allows me to easily tape whatever and it is set up to tape all my fave shows every time they come on and i can pause and rewind live tv - so if bub cracks it and needs me for 5 mins i can just pause whatever i am watching or if phone rings etc... I also basically tape everything so i never have to watch ads....loving the IQ - big luxury at a time when meant to be cost cutting, but justify as SOO much less being spent on social stuff, eating out etc...the entertainment spending is well down anyways......
Brooke - oscar is gorgeous!!! Sorry you are having a tough time, but as you said if visitors are settling down it will help a lot - i have found the interest in bubs lovely but exhausting and far from being home and "bored" as i feared (LOL!! - i had no idea!!) my main trouble is making sure i am not overscheduled with catch ups and hang out for days with nothing on. On the other hand i am trying to drink up the visits and "attention" so to speak as i know the novelty will wear off for people!!! It is so lovely showing bub off being proud first time mummy but yep it def. adds to the strain as well....
Nina - what exactly is a hug a bub??? Glad its working anyways!!!!!
AFM - Well overall i think i am doing pretty well, mostly cos i think i have landed what is (so far) a not too tricky bub to look after. She sleeps for reasonable gaps at night(4-5 hours and getting longer) which lets a bit of sleep happen and helps a lot. She has a more unsettled time say 5 - 10 pm where she seems to "cluster feed", every 1 -2 hours for 3 or 4 feeds, but this then means maybe 1 4-6 hour followed by a four hour gap ie. really only getting up once right in the middle of the night, so figure the evening cluster feeds worth it for the overnight bit!! The vomiting has settled and not bad now and she is having a bit more awake time. Tonight we didnt fight the awake time which we did a bit at first and it was nice really - she sat up with us on the couch lying back on dads lap just looking around and interacting with us - it was nice for hub to spend a bit of time with her after work too.
HUb started new job yesterday and i had a small meltdown last night - felt like i had been a pretty good mummy all day but wasnt such a good wife ie. i had been a good nanny and maid but not such a great partner - he is gone from house about 3 hours more a day than i am used to compared to his old job, not a great time to have this change. i found the hours b/w when he used to get home and when he did (4.30 pm - 7.30 pm) quite stressful and depressing and by the time he got home i was exhausted and grumpy and didnt do a great job of hearing all about his day etc... i went through a whole lot of mixed emotions, ashamed to say but almost angry at him for being so upbeat about his great day, why didnt he miss us more??? and yay for you it was all very stimulating and exciting, i changed nappies all day!!! And yes i would rather make the salad while you hold the baby than the other way around cos i have been holding the baby ALL day!!! Meltdown was late at night, exhausted and by bed time felt like me and hub had hardly spent time together and basically if i was feeling this tired and overwhelmed after day one, how am i going to beafter he works eleven out of the next twelve days!!!! Anyways day 2 went MUCH better and i am feeling great today - one day at a time...... hugs to everyone, how are you all doing??????? No time to edit, hope ok!!
henri - i know what you mean, dont feel bad, ive been so mean to my DF the last week due to stress with uni and i feel terrible too! also you are VERY lucky to only get up once i night i still have to feed him 2 to 3 times a night and then wake up call is at 5 am everyday!
AFM - my bubs is almost 2months old allready! we are going to start planning our wedding after new years yay! oh and would you believe my bub is allready 6 kilos! after being a half a kilo underweight when i brought him home, he is such a budda i have to put powder under his 3 chins coz it gets all sweaty and yucky under there now and he has grown out of all his clothes and is nearly in 0's!
Thanks Henri- i am a little biased, but hey what mother isnt right?
dont get me wrong i am loving all the attention he is recieving! he absolutly loves attention, He is a ladies man for sure!
its just i find my visitors tend to over welcome the stay. :shakehead:
the past few days have been great though, DP had some mates come up from Sydney over the weekend just gone for his bday, they are 23/24 yrs old and they were absolutly great with Oscar spoilt him rotten :D it was really funny seeing these young single carefree guys empty there suitcases with teddies, jump suits, haviana thongs (sooo cutee) and even a pair of tiny jeans- they dont fit just yet but i cant wait to put them on him!!
the first night they decided to take DP out to celebrate his bday, they returned home about 430am, and were such good boys didnt even so much as squeek like a mouse.
so DP was in the good books. then the next night they decided to go out again so i decided to go for a sleep over at my mums (oscars nannies) and OMG he was an angel now my mum things i make up all the drama, typical.
anyway thats my story! :) hope everything is going great for you ladies.
i just uploaded some new pics, cant you tell im a proud first time mummaaa!
his getting soo old/big and im wondering where all the time has gone :(
have a lovely day my fellow mummies.xx
M+H+B - HI! Yep, i think the DP's, DF's and DH's are copping it a bit at the moment!! Surely its not just yours and mine??!! Mine has been so helpful when home but obviously things have to change now he is back at work, so its just an adjustment period i guess. I had been trying hard and succeeding in first few weeks in not telling him he was doing things wrong with bubs, but last two days the way he does things with her is bugging me - i guess my confidence with her has surged forward as i am with her all day and he has lost a bit of confidence not being around her so much, i just have to try and be more patient...... and yep, i know i am so lucky that stephi sleeps well at night so far, fingers crossed it continues....not sure how i would cope if she wasn't that way, maybe i was sent one that the universe knew i could cope with....
V.exciting re wedding plans - hope it all goes well!!! Had to laugh re your bubbas 3 chins!! Stephi is getting real chubby cheeks (bringing back slightly horrid memories of being called "chubby checkers" at primary school () - hope they disappear b4 she gets to school, but for the moment are v.cute!!!!
Brooke- and i have to say again - gorgeous bub!!!! Glad it went well with hubs mates - lucky you get on well with them. Makes all the diff. when they are good with/excited about bubs. I find myself getting a bit offended if people dont gush!!! Definitely feel warmer towards those who do!!!! LOL about oscar ebehaving at nans - people keep saying what a little angel stephi is (as they all look when fast asleep) and really she is great but i still find myself saying "come to my place at 4am when she is hungry and angry she has to get her nappy changed first"!!! She has a great scream on her when she tries, DH enjoyed telling all his mates she got given BOG (best on ground) in the nursery overnight in hossie for biggest screamer!!!!!
AFM - first trip to supermarket today went off ok, went straight after a feed and she slept the whole time:clap:yay for stephi!! Was not impressed with baby capsule trolleys which were old and horrible and i hated putting her in it, not mad on using those again - anyone else got tips how they manage supermarket?? Mostly aiming to do it on weekends when one of us can babysit and the other go and just quick trips for a couple of items during week - but when you do go how do you handle it???? I havent got a baby bjorn or similar, sling, anyone got these and can tell me how useful they are finding them? Are they any good for s.market shopping???
haha at BOG its funny you say that Oscar is more of a whingy/fussy bubba doesnt so much scream untill the other night when i kept him waiting for the boob. i thought poor DP had hurt him.
our DP's seem very simular my DP loves telling his mates about how he cant wait to get Oscar onto a surfboard and Dirtbike. ( i can)
yes its funny how they always seem to be little angels when the visitors are around, yet once they step out the door its world war three. its like they know that they dont have to put on a show anymore and its time to give mumma some good payback for letting everyone pull my cheeks and pass me around like a parcel.
henri as for the shopping i have only been twice so far but i have found either take a lovely soft blanket to lay them on, or just take the pram and stuff the goods where you can (ps. remember where you put it all) so long as your not doing a huge shop. for huge shops maybe get ur DP to come along on his day off one push the pram and one push the trolley (no fights but) good luck
Hi Everyone
It has been a while since I have written in here as well - just too exhausted ... I am also struggling away with a colicy baby. Some days are better than others. Today is not one of the better days. I love her to bits, I just wish she wouldn't cry so much. DD2 is sleeping well at night which is my only reprieve. She is really unsettled until about 11pm when she finally goes to sleep for the night and she only wakes once between 4.30 and 5.00pm which is great. She then sleeps until around 8am and then she is ready for a day of very unsettledness till 11pm again. My first baby didn't even stop at night time so I am counting my blessings that she is not as bad as that. At least I am getting some sleep, but I am getting nothing else done all day - no washing, no dishes, no cleaning - nothing so we are doing a bit every night once DD2 is finally asleep. It's the only opportunity we get.
My DH is copping a bit from me at the moment too. We have all had a horrible headcold for the last week and a half and it has really knocked all of us. Even the kids have been extremely emotional and tired while they have been sick so I know it is not entirely the hormones. DH didn't get sick thankfully but I am not being a very understanding and because I am not getting to spend anytime with him at all alone until we collapse into bed each night, I am just being plain rude to him. Poor guy. He is handling it well though and understands that I am very tired and not feeling well.
I know this is a stage and it will pass - it is my mantra at the moment.
Henri - I have Hug-A-Bub and I love it. I only got it for this baby, but I think it is incredibly useful for shopping trips because she is quite calm when she is that close to me (although she has given me a couple of hickeys when she thinks she is hungry). I have an Infantino (like a Baby Bjorn) and I don't like it as much. It is not completely hands free because if I lean forward I have to hold the baby so she doesn't fall out. The HAB keeps baby in the one spot. If she gets unsettled while I am shopping, I can still pat her and rock her to settle her and she is very safe - no risk of dropping her etc. I highly recommend the HAB.
Anyway, DD2 is screaming again so I am going to have to go. Sorry that I didn't do more personals, I will try again some other time.
Just a quick one from me as we're about to serve up dinner.
Shopping - I either take a blanket to put under Anelise, or I take her in either the Baba Sling or the HAB.
I looooooooooooove the HAB, it is seriously the best thing ever. I use it whenever & wherever I can. It actually stays folded up at the bottom of the nappy bag when not in use JIC I need it when I am out. I used it loads when Harrison was little and he loved it when he was old enough to face forwards as he would help to push the trolley (lol)
Hope everyone is well. I am sooooooooooooo constantly tired but I will try to come on asap to do personals.
Hi girls just a quick one Henri I did the groceries today and I just had Laicee in the Hug a Bub she slept through the whole thing and it was fantastic I have it on all the time and pop her in it when she gets grizzly...this is normally her witching hour but since I bought the HAB I have popped her in it, I have dinner on and am even catching up quickly on here and she is fast asleep on my chest...gotta get yourself one they are fabulous..she hasnt had colic for days.
Hope everyone else is doing well.
Loooooovvve the HUG A BUB!!!! did I mention that????? lol
hey girls!
TG - my bub has really bad reflux and is very unsettled he wakes 3 times a night then ends up in our bed by 5 am we put him on zantac from the GP and its much better, does xanthe spew alot? perhaps she has heartburn like my little bub does.
AFM- i finish my degree on the 2nd of december i cant wait! 4 years done! oh and my bubba is now doing BIG smiles at mummy and daddy i love it!
MHB - DD2 does spew a lot (but a lot less than she was a couple of weeks ago) - all my babies have spewed heaps. I think she does have a bit of reflux but it seems to be mainly wind issues of not being able to get her wind up. Lots of her spews are wind that finally comes up and brings some of the contents of her stomach with it. Very sad. DD1 was exactly the same as a baby. It resolved itself around 2 months in her so I am hanging onto that. Yay for your little man giving you smiles - I can't wait until we start to see some smiles from DD2 that aren't because she has wind :) It makes it all so worth it.
Nina - I am so with you on the HAB. I wish I had discovered it with my other 2 babies - it is brilliant and such a life saver for an unsettled baby. I love the feeling of closeness with it too.
AFM - We had a great night last night!!! After a horrible day yesterday, DD2 had a big feed at 8.30 and went to sleep. She slept through until 3am, woke up for a feed and went back to sleep until 9am. Pure bliss!!! I was a bit full and uncomfortable by the time she was ready to eat this morning, but all worth it for a very settled and lovely night. We are paying for it a bit today as she hasn't really stopped crying all morning. She is very overtired at the moment because she didn't go to sleep when she needed to. It is a vicious cycle really. I am hoping that we only have a few more weeks of this and then it will all settle down as it did with DD1.
Hope everyone else is having a good day.
Hi All,
We have had a vey busy time haven't we... so little posts until now.
Brooke - I hear you on the sleep thing. Planning an wedding too - you must be super women. How funny you bub was perfect with your mum. I saw midwife about breastfeeding as Jaida and I fight on occasions as she wants to stay 'little mouthed' which my nipples just love... and she perfectly attached and didn't fuss once . The lady thought I was crazy.
Nina - buggar about the colic, hopefully a routine and less crying happens for you soon.
Henri - I know what you mean by bored... so busy so tired but require some sort of adult stimulation. I have also had a few bad days with DH.... I am sort of jealous I think, he can come and go as he pleases and has just started a gym program.... wish I had the time or the energy to get back into shape. Sound like a complete
B%^&ch dont I??
Mehimbub - Love the comments on the triple chins... Jaida has just formed a double chin over the past few weeks - she loves her milk !!
Townsvillegirl - Love the sound of your sleep pattern... hope it continues. Hope the colic resolves itself soon.
AFM - Trying to be kind to DH.... I try to get an extra hours sleep after Jaida's morning feed but this can also be an unsettled period for her and its like DH just gives up rather than perservere (sp??) and I have to get up. Or he goes outside when its his turn to listen out for her - men !!! I am trying to be kind cause he was outside cleaning my car !!! How awful of me.
BF seems to be getting much better now. Jaida is feeding 3 hourly during the day and 4 hourly at night. On a few occasions she has slept from 7pm through to 3pm which was bliss but then the weather really heated up and she found it hard to sleep. Crazy weather... one day was 18 deg and the next 33 and then back to 20???? How do you figure out what to wear and wrap her in when the weather changes so much!!
Looking at trying to express for 1 feed a day.. would love to get away for a few hours. Any tips
Went to Babes in Arms and we both loved it ... trying to get out atleast every second day.
And..... I am getting great big gummy grins now, sooooooo gorgeous. I could just eat her.
Ohhhhh and my boobs decided to leak when I went shopping today LOL!!!!! Huge wet patch for all the see. Dont forget the breast pads.
Well our little man has been officially diagnosed with reflux and is on losec. Hopefully this will decrease the hour or so of uncontrollable crying about 2 1/2 hours after a feed (fingers crossed).
Hopefully it will also stop some of the advice coming our way about how I should be feeding him more cause he is a big bub and that's the only problem, and nothing else. Grrr. He's putting on close to 300g per week, I think he's getting enough! Grr at people and their 'advice'
Poor little Joshy also mild conjunctivitis / blocked tear duct, so have some drops for that if washing it with saline does not do the trick.
It's like having Kaitlyn all over again. Sigh
I'm starting to feel down and doubt myself as a mother - need to focus on the positives. Don't really want to go down the PND road again.
Hope all is well for all - Personals soon
I'm off to bed.
Nite.
leanne dont stress my bub is on zantac for reflux and is always unsettled i feel bad too because i do formula and breastmilk and feel its my fault somehow! i also get comments but mine are that he is too fat! he isnt even 2 months old and was extremely underweight almost a kilo underweight when we brought him home so just let him enjoy his milky! ppl will always have something to say!
AFM im actually very upset, my sisters best friend had a bub a week after me and her and her partner were only 18 and despite all the pressure to abort from both sets of parents they decided to try and make it, he got an apprenticeship and stood by her the whole time, on the 15th of october little layla died from sids at 2 weeks old :( i get goosebumps just writing this, she was so cute and the sad thing is me and DF had that name set in stone if we had had a daughter, it was meant for her though. im terrified now for my son i dont want it to happen to him.
Lydia I am so sorry to hear about baby Layla. My thoughts and prayers are with your sister's best friend and their family. That's devastating news.
MHB - I'm so sorry to hear about poor little Layla, it's something that I think we all have a terrible fear of in the back of our minds, but to hear of it happening to someone close to you must be heartbreaking.
I know it's hard not to worry, but please try to remember how rare SIDS is these days, therefore the chance of it happening to your little boy, or any of our little ones for that matter, is extremely unlikely. Please try not to worry.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Angela
Hi All,
Hope you are all well - I'm finding it really hard to find time to post, but I'm still keeping an eye on everyone's posts. I'm sure I'm not alone there :D, having a 5 week old is amazingly hard work..........
Leanne, sorry to hear about Josh & his reflux, at least having him on losec should help the poor little one settle, it must be terrible not being able to help him when you know he is in pain.
Emily had a blocked tear duct right from when she was born - we persisted with the saline washes for about 3 weeks before it cleared up so hopefully that will do the trick for you. Try not to let it all get you down, just remember that you can and will only do what you think is best for your little boy - that's what being a mother is all about, it makes you a great mother!!! So don't doubt yourself, just go with your gut.
Take care all.
Angela
Hi Everyone
Sorry I haven't posted for a while - my computer crashed (it was only 2 years old grrr) and we had to get a new one.
MHB - I am so sorry to hear about your friend's little girl . It is extremely hard to deal with the death of a baby especially one that is so close in age to your own. My heart goes out to you and your friends.
Leanne - I hope that Josh's reflux is getting sorted out and he is starting to settle better after feeds. You are not a bad mum at all - you are fantastic. 2 and a half hours of screaming after every feed in enough to do anyone's head in. Good on you for persisting.
AFM - We have all finally recovered from our head colds, but now have a gastro bug. DH has taken DD1 and DS to my mum's today so I can rest. I am soooooo over being sick. I don't think I have been sick as many times over my whole life as I have been in the last 5 months. It is unbelievable!!!
Xanthe is sleeping really well - she has been going the whole way through the night for the last week. She is still really unsettled during the days but I'm not sure how much of everything is to do with us being sick. We have had a couple of nights of 8.30pm to 6am which is an incredibly long time for a small baby but much appreciated by her sick mummy :). She is still gaining weight so I am not concerned.
Hi All,
MHB - so sorry to hear about your families loss... my heart just sank when I rad your post and I gave Jaida and extra long hug.
Leanne - of course your a good mum... remember this is a normal thing for some bubs :(
Townsville girl - Love the long sleeps.... Jaida is also sleeping from long at night which is bliss. Jaida also has unsettled periods during the day - yesterday she slept only 2 hours however slept from 7pm to 4am and then after a feed woke again at 8am. I would prefer Jaida being awake during the day than at night (although nothing else gets done during the day)
Everything else is going quite well. I realised yesterday I had not been away from Jaida for more than 1 hour since she was born. Sounds awful but I need some time out for me. Dont get me wrong I am so blessed and would not change a thing but a little person needing constant attention can be a little draining. IYKWIM. I feel guilty saying this. I think I will have to set some 'ME' time with DH. Does anyone else feel like this??
Easha- i know exactly how you feel, dont get me wrong i love being a SAHM with Oscar and realise i am quite lucky being able to do this and still live day to day, but i find myself atm longing for some alone "me" time. i feel terrible saying it :(
i had a talk with my DP and have decided that i have "me" time on tuesday/thursday afternoons for 90mins. My first session is today! haha :)
is this bad of me to be looking forward to it?
Easha - You need time out for yourself. Caring for another person 24/7 is very rewarding, but can also be demanding and draining. Breastfeeding can also put extra pressure on you because no-one else can take over that role for you unless you express first. Don't feel guilty about needing 'me' time although guilt really does seem to come with the territory of being a mum.
Brooke - I hope you have a great 90 mins 'off' :)
AFM - Had a horrible night last night as I was really sick. Thankfully I have a freezer full of expressed breastmilk from the first few weeks after DD2 was born when I was making HEAPS. So DH looked after her and our other two children (DS is teething and not sleeping well) all night last night so that I could sleep. I didn't feed DD2 myself for 24 hours because I had a temp and my skin was so irritated I couldn't bear the thought of breastfeeding. I expressed milk when I was up to it so have replaced some of what DH used from the freezer yesterday. I have breastfed for all feeds today as I am feeling so much better! DH has been amazing and I am so thankful to him. DD2 has been a bit sick too so didn't sleep much last night. I think DH is running off an hour sleep today.
DH also starts his new job on Monday. He is going to Adelaide for 3 days so I am moving in with my parents while he is gone. I think it might be a bit lonely here on my own with 3 kids. My brother and his girlfriend are living with my parents at the moment and they had a baby girl 2 weeks ago. It should be a very full house next week.
yay, my 90mins was great :) went and got a lovely massage it was absolutly fabulous.
exactly what i needed. i feel very refreshed!
On returning home i was welcomed by a very bright eyed DP telling me as soon as oscar is walking he would like another :shakehead: arrrgh, give me time.
then he repeats to tell me he likes the name "MEGA" mmmhmm over my dead body!
i honestly have nooooo idea where he finds these ridiculous names as he wanted oscars middle name to be "danger"
im not sure if im game enough to leave them alone again, it seems they get up to to much mischief!
hope your all having a wonderful night
sleep tight
Hi all,
Had to post to get out thread back to the front page !!
Me post today
Not having such a good day. It had been 37 degrees here and poor little Jaida didn't cope so well. No sleep all day and just grizzly and thirsty. Syd houses aren't built for this type of heat. I have finally put her down to sleep with the only fan we have. Its still 31 degrees at 8pm :(.
Still have issues with breastfeeding. The problem nipple seems to change every few days - few days left and then a few days right ??? Jaida drew a little blood today so I have been trying to just express that breast to give it a break - go a whole 30mls  Will try again in an hour or so.
Jaida continues to sleep between 7 and 4am-5am which is awesome but my breasts are so engorged and leaking by 2-3am I cant sleep. Anyone know when the body will figure out we no longer feed at 2am??
Hope you all are well and are getting much sleep
easha - OMG you bub sounds like an angel mine goes down at around 8 pm then wakes at midnight then 3 am then around 5 am for a bottle each time its the same every night! he is soooo not a sleeper!
hope everyone is doing ok! jonathan AKA shrimp! had his shots and he was so brave i almost cried though and daddy had to hold him still :( he has big smile now and is starting to squel and can roll on to his right side all by himself now :) he is also on lactose free formula and it seems to be working great no projectiles now so it seems he may be lactose intolerant :( but its expected daddy, auntie and grandma are all caeliac and lactose interlorant.
Anyone else allready thinking of having another bub? we are on the count down to TTC again and cant wait!
Hi girls.
Things are going great here... Anelise is such a precious little bubba who I just can't stop looking at! She is all giggly and cute now... I really love this stage :)
I am having a dilemma at the moment. I can't breast feed. I just can't. It doesn't work, Anelise hates even trying and pulls herself off my nipple so many times it just leaves me flustered and upset. I feel like I am constantly expressing and that is getting me down so much. I can't have anyone around me when I express as just a tiny bit of stress stops my flow and my nipples end up hurting... I am only able to express 150mls at a time now which is fine as that is how much Anelise has... but what about when she is drinking 250mls at a time? Urgh... I don't want to think about it.
The temptation to switch to formula is so strong right now. I selfishly would love to go back on my diet and lose my baby weight (ok, my 5 baby weight ) but refuse to do it whilst I am expressing. I want to make it to at least 6 months but I'm not sure I will. I am really upset that breast feeding just isn't working at all for us and there doesn't seem to be anywhere I can turn to for support... I guess I have grieved for my breast feeding days and now I feel ok if I am to turn to formula... but I love knowing my baby girl is thriving on my breast milk! Arghhhhh! See my dilemma?
Annie also has reflux so we're using the karicare thickener stuff... but she seems to be so unsettled afterwards that I think there may be more to it, so I will need to take her to the Dr also.
Annie also gets her first lot of immunisations done tomorrow... I am sooooooooo glad DH will be here to hold my hand when it happens!
Hi Everyone
Lisa - sorry I have no advice for you but it sounds devastating. How did Annie's immunisations go? Did the doctor have anything interesting to say about her being unsettled?
MHB - Not thinking about another baby here. After my first I was keen to have another one pretty close. I was pg by the time DD was 4 months old (there is only 12 and a half months between DD1 and DS). It took my body a bit longer to be ready to get pg again after DS. Just be careful not to put too much pressure on yourself to get pg. It can be really difficult for the first few months after giving birth, even if you aren't bfing. It takes everything a while to go back to normal.
Easha - Has your supply settled down now overnight, or is it still pretty full on? I think that supply is meant to settle down around the 6 week mark, if not before. I have found that with every baby, my supply is settling down earlier on though.
AFM - We are doing really well at the moment. DD2 has an unsettled period each day but nothing too major. I absolutely adore her. I don't think I felt like I bonded with my other 2 babies like I am bonding with her, which is sad. With DD1, I was shell-shocked I think and I bonded very well with DS but this is even better again!
TG - Apparently she has silent reflux :( We're to keep an eye on it and if it gets any worse she may need medication. The thickener is helping so much now though so that is great.
TG - there is no way we are trying for another year at least! also i got my period only 5 weeks after my c section while breastfeeding! just had my 2nd AF 29 days after my 1st so allready spot on! it sucks bigtime!
Lisa - my boy had that and now is on zantac and anti - lact karicare formula and all is better! also no more baby spew at all!
AFM - had a woman die on us in the coronary care unit today, i washed her body and put her in the body bag and watched the family say goodbye, then had a little cry in the staff room :( ive never felt so emotional before but now i have my son i think life means so much more to me and i had to come home and give him big hugs and kisses!
Hi All,
Lisa - you poor thing, just do what your heart is telling you. If you want to continue breastfeeding maybe call the breastfeeding association or see a LC?? I do understand where you are coming from. I have days were feeding is really hard and then remind myself I have 20 odd weeks of this to go - the next day picks up for me though. I support whatever decision you make - do what is right for you
MHB - yes life is so precious and you stop taking thinks for granted once you have a child I reckon. I see medical shows with sick babies and am so grateful Jaida is healthy. Great to hear the projectiles have ceased :) Thinking of a new bub already????? Me I remember the pain too vividly to even contemplate a new bub... 2011 is when we might consider trying again. Hopefully the memory has faded by then :)
Townsville girl - great to hear you have a strong bond with Xanthe. As for my milk - I was wearing a single to bed and although fitted I still had issues with pads moving and bb feeling really heavy. I bought a crop top (you know a sports top/bra thing) and that has atleast eleviated my frustration with repositioning the pads. The engorgement hasn't been that bad but I have also expressed before bed so maybe that's it. I wont express tonight as I am having a wine so will see whether this has made the difference.
AFM - am frustrated with expressing. I read one of you expressing 150 mls - I have expressed for the past 4 days and only have 100mls :doh:. It is very disheartening :( Any suggestions??
Jaida also had her immunisations yesterday and I was a blubbering mess..... she also had a fever the poor little thing. Glad its over for a few months atleast.
Anyway back to me glass of red
Easha - That's me that expresses 150mls. I usually do 200-250mls though. What are you using to express with? With Harrison, I used an Avent Isis and found I could barely cover the bottom of the cup with milk so this time around DH bought me a Medela Swing pump and it is brilliant. I also (try to) make sure I drink loads of water and I have been drinking Activite and eating the lactation cookies when I remember to make them. Basically the extra water is what seems to work for me... and to limit the amount of stress around me when I am expressing... if my kids come in and whinge or bicker I lose the flow and nothing comes out... when they leave me alone and I just read or watch TV I get a good flow happening and can get out 150mls in around 15-20mins.
hi all,
Have been reading but haven't gotten around to posting for a while. You all sound like you are doing so well and your bubs experiences are already bringing back memories of DD at that stage... even though it wasn't all that long ago! In some ways I feel like she is going through some of them again and is behaving some days like a baby of her corrected age. The ECHN said that some of it may be true and that I need to take each day as it comes - well der!
Bit of an update on DD... she was just over 5kg at her last weigh in (22nd Oct) and she is over three different sized clothes... some 00000 still fit (pants and tops etc), mostly in 0000 but some of her onesies suits are now 000. She had some gunk in her eye the other day - I did think it was conjunctivitis but now I don't think it was... think it was just some spring pollen or something. I have been squirting BM into the eye to flush it out and it is working wonders. Um can't think of much else... other than DP and I have been very naughty and been DTD with no protection whatsoever... I really have my fingers crossed that breastfeeding is holding back any cycles... and double fingers crossed that my PCOS is still wreaking havoc on any cycle I 'may' have... AF is still at bay but I am wondering if I should get a pg test just to make sure... argh! We now have condoms! We were hoping to have the next one in around 2011 but any earlier will be fine as well... though I would like to wait until DD turns 1 at least.
We are in Cowra at the moment - my sister found out last Monday that her baby grew wings and became an angel so we are up here to help her whilst she recovers from the D&C.
I can't believe my DD will be 3months old in 4 days - my oh my time has flown! DD is still in newborn sposies but we tried her in the infant size today - they do fit but they are so huge on her! The newborn sizes fit much better but I know it won't be long until she fits the infants size! I don't know many 3month olds that still fit into newborn nappies LOL
We are heading back to Sydney tomorrow after spending time with my sister and looking after my niece. I got a glimpse into life with two and it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. I took my niece and my DD down to the shops by myself - I was surprised at how easy it was. I got DD out first and put her into the sling and then got niece out and she walked until we got to the trolleys and then she hoped in there... I am sure it wouldn't always be easy but I was imaging all sorts of horrible moments but none eventuated!
Take care all - big hugs to mums & bubs
I forgot to say - stellar effort on the expressing Lisa!!
Easha - I found distracting myself (with a book, TV, and sometimes conversation) would help the expressing flow. What type of pump are you using? I also used the medela swing and it was a godsend whilst DD was in hospital.
