tk - my heart goes out to your sis, ive been there before and it is very hard emotionally and the D&C is quite scary, but not painful. i hope she is recovering ok.
AFM- my boy is already 6.2 kilos! and in crawler nappies and is only 2 months old i dont know if they will make nappies big enough for him soon!

went to a wedding and 1st time ive left rayden mind you it was only for 2 hrs i just went to the ceremony and mum said she was great ,, although refused the expressed milk she gagged.. thats a prob as eventually i gotta get a job..

Hi all not much to report here.
Joshua had his needles yesterday - slept through them. Katy cried while she watched the dr give it to him, thought he was hurting him. He was a bit unsettled last night, but a dose of panadol fixed him up.
He's just on 6kgs, and today he wore a 00 outfit. He's going to be one tall boy. He's sitting on the 97% band, so we are estimating he'll be around 190cm tall for sure by the time he's 18. Just like daddy (198cm)
Other than that, he's sleeping 6 hours of a night, has settled down heaps now he is on meds and lactose free formula for his reflux. Loves his 1 - 2 boobie feeds a day. um. I think that's it.
My daughter on the other hand.....(that's a different story but won't bore you with it! he he).
I'll try for personals soon

Just thought I'd pop in and say 'hi'. Have been reading posts but haven't had much time to reply.
We're still having problems with daytime sleeps - Emily just doesn't want to have a bar of being put down in her cot - screams blue murder!!! DH says she's got me conned coz I'm too soft with her - but it's getting frustrating having to nurse her through all her day sleeps, I can't get anything done!! She sleeps great at nighttime in her cot with no complaints. Any ideas on how to overcome this one??
I also have the same issue with expressing, sometimes it works ok, but other times I'm getting hardly anything - frustrating......
Emily is only on the 10th percentile for weight - 3.96gms at last weigh, she's still so tiny - still in 0000.
Anyway, better go - typing with one hand coz Emily is asleep in my arms :redface:

Angela - Emily sounds gorgeous! My little Harrison was a tiny little 10th centile bubba for ages! People used to ask me if he was born prem! lol
As for the settling through the day, do you have a silng? I love my HAB for the fact that I can carry Anelise around and still get things done. I don't think there is such a thing as being too soft with your bub when they're this age.. they don't cry to annoy or get attention, they cry because they're needing something (as I am sure you realise ;))
I always feel terrible when Anelise cries when I put her down as I know she just misses being next to me... afterall, I am all she knew for 9 months so I figure she just wants to be near me and feel something familiar.

On Saturday, my baby girl had her first and hopefully last ride in an ambulance :(
We were getting ready to go out to have lunch with my dad, who was visiting from Sydney. He was coming up here to meet Anelise for the first time. My DH, DS1, Harrison & Anelise were all in the loungeroom, which is just off our kitchen. Chooky & I were in the kitchen preparing the little esky with ice packs and bottles of EBM.
DH had put Anelise down on the fold out bit of Harry's flip out foam lounge thingy while he cleaned Harry's face up as he had icing all over it.
Anelise started to have a little sook, so DS1 picked her up. All of a sudden, Anelise started screaming. DH asked if she was due for a feed and I said no as she'd only had one an hour previously.
I went in and took Anelise from DS1 and noticed that when he was holding her, her arm was in a funny position. I worried and stripped her clothes off her. When I got down to her singlet, I noticed her shoulder didn't look right. I have never seen a dislocated shoulder on anyone in real life, but this looked like the dislocations I have seen on TV. I panicked and got DH to call the ambulance as I didn't want to risk moving her arm to put her in her car seat.
While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, we gave DD some EBM, but the 000 operator told us to stop giving it to her. The wait felt like it went forever. The ambulances arrived, 2 of them and the officers looked her over and agreed she should at least go get xrayed. Poor DS1 was beside himself.. crying and feeling so guilty! I felt awful that he was blaming himself. DH cuddled DS1 and then hopped into the ambulance with Anelise. I gathered everything up that I thought we may need and then got DS1 and explained to him that it wasn't his fault, anyone could have done what was done and for him to not blame himself. I gave him a hug and left him here with DD1. My dad was on his way over.
I put Harry in the car and rushed off to the hospital.
The xray woman was horrid. Just plain freaking awful. She yanked Anelise's arm into different positions... Anelise was screaming in pain, my boobs were leaking from hearing her screams and my face was flooded with tears. They had to call DH in to take over as I was an absolute mess. The Xray woman picked Anelise up, didn't support her head or shoulder, and it was like she didn't give 2 hoots that Annie had a sore shoulder at all. Anelise had this great lump on top of her shoulder between her shoulder joint and her neck, so it was obvious there was some kind of injury. Anyway the xray woman got her shots and we were sent into the pediatric emergency section to wait for the results. Annie had a BF and a sleep. After about an hour she was all smiles & giggles.
The xray results came back and they said there were "No gross deformities" so no breaks or dislocations. It seems that she has probably got a muscular injury :(
I don't know... if Anelise did have a dislocation, I am sure the xray woman would have popped it back in by the way she was yanking on her little arm.
Urgh! Today Anelise is still happy, smiley & giggly but she still has the lump on her shoulder. We're more than likely going to get a 2nd opinion done either this afternoon or tomorrow... Anelise isn't worried by it though and we can easily dress her, she moves her arm around lots and sleeps with her arms above her head as always, but I am still worried. My poor little bubba!

Lisa - Activite?? Do you mean the chocolate drink like milo?? Does that increase supply?? Yes I do have an Avent Isis. Seem to be getting better at expressing but still I am only getting 30-40mls per time. Will look into the Medela. I was very frustrated the other day, I need to go to the city with Jaida and took the expressed bottle and she refused to take it :doh::doh:. I spent 4 days getting the 100mls and it was wasted as she refused to take it :(. I then tried at home thinking the environment of the city was stressing her but she refused again - she tends to push it out with her tongue - any suggestions.
I have now expressed for a few days now until I know she will take the bottle, it just takes to long.
Leanne - how awful to her about the shoulder problem with your girl.... I would have been beside myself as well. I hope your little one is doing much better.
My mum has come to visit which is wonderful - yummy cooked meals, house all clean, what would I do with her.
The engorgment continues. Poor Jaida gets sprayed with milk when she is trying to attach during the first feed of the day. I am not so bothered about the engorgement as it is reasonably easy to fix I am more perplexed by the pain I have in my BB after the feed. A deep burning sensation... Although I go back to bed after the first feed (about 5:30am) I cant sleep due to the pain. This breastfeeding thing is very complex.
Anyhow I am going to try to read the paper now

MHB - thank you, my sister is doing as well as can be expected. Wow - 6kgs already... Caitlin is just under 5.5kg!

Angela - I found my sling to be a godsend during those disrupted day sleeps and I agree with what Lisa said - they aren't crying to con you at that age
Lisa - that definitely sounds like the weekend from hell. Hun, no one would judge you - it is just one of things... it happens :hug:. Hope she is all better now (and mummy and DS1 too)

AFU - Caitlin started swimming lessons today!! It was a good day and she slept for 3 hours afterwards :dance:. She weighs just under 5.5kg at last weigh in - will go back next week and check. I am hoping we can scrap the fortnightly weigh ins soon. I started going to Mothers Group on 2.11.09 and am enjoying meeting new people. Other than that not much else happening - christmas shopping and all that jazz.

Busy busy busy here and not much time to post. DH went back to full time work 2 weeks ago which means I don't sit down all day and if I stop and do anything other than look after kids it all gets on top of me but I think I am coping pretty well. I am really enjoying being with my kids all day and not getting distracted by BellyBelly (I was spending a lot of time on here at the end of my pg because I was soooo tired :redface:).
Lisa - I cried reading your post. What a horrible experience. I would have been just as distressed as you if I had to see my baby go through that and to get very little sympathy from the x-ray lady while she man-handled your baby ... :hug: I hope Anelise is okay. Poor little thing and poor you and poor DS.
Easha - I still spray DD2 in the face during most feeds, especially if she pulls off, which she does sometimes because I think she is being a bit drowned in milk. She also won't take a bottle. DD2 is a bit of a drama queen and gags if I try to give her a bottle. It is really quite funny. I don't know much about what the pain in your boob could be if it is not your let down reflex. Is your milk draining well during feeds? It wouldn't be mild mastitus? I don't really know, but thought I would ask.
TK - Swimming is magic for getting babies (and kids) to sleep for long periods of time. I wish I had taken my kids to swimming lessons when they were babies, it is a bit hard now with the 3 of them. DH and I are thinking about taking them together on a Saturday morning starting next year. Caitlin sounds like she is growing really well. It is amazing how much bigger she is now than 3 months ago. I can't believe she is 3 months already. Time is just flying by!
Angela - Don't know if this helps but do you still wrap Emily? I stopped wrapping DD1 when she was a couple of weeks old because I thought she hated it but when I took her to a day stay sleep program, they got me to wrap her for her sleeps and she became much easier to settle and put down. Not a magic solution but I found it helps. The day stay I went to with DD1 used the sleep program 'Sleep Right, Sleep Tight' (title of the book) and I swear by it. We have used it for all 3 of our kids and it works great. They recommend just doing what feels right for the first 3 months but we started it with DD1 when she was 7 weeks old because she never slept and always wanted to be held. We were exhausted.

I'm a late arrival to the group having seemed to spend most of the last few weeks in the breast feeding problems and support section :lol:. My little Sam arrived two weeks early on 22nd September. He was 3.18kg when born and 52cm long and the spitting image of his daddy!
Looking forward to seeing how all his little buddies are getting on and sharing any tips/successes you have had about getting through the little hurdles that are thrown at us.

AFU - I think I forgot to mention that we have started going to Mothers Group. I was a bit worried as it sounded scary - babies in another room etc but I enjoy the time and enjoy getting to know the other mums. I went out to lunch with some of them today after Mothers Group at Pancakes On The Rocks near us and mmmmmmm yummo!! Who could ask more than pancakes for lunch!

This is the first time I have posted in here! I haven't really been on BB much lately. Well, Isabel is now 7 weeks old, she weighs a bit over 5kg now and I don't know how long she is. I can't believe how much she is growing! She is on formula, and drinks about 150mls every feed. She seems to be starting to form a pattern with her feeds now, and she wakes up at about the same time each night for a bottle which is good. She smiles all the time, and I love going to get her in the morning when she wakes up as she always gives me a huge smile. She is just an absolute delight, we all adore her. People ask me how I am going having a newborn again and I tell them she is easy compared to her older brother and sisters!

Just wondering when and how often you bath your baby? My little one is eight weeks old today and am trying to work out best time to bath him. And how often?
I am currently feeding every three to four hours but not always on demand as will wake him to feed if he goes over. I have read some suggestions that the bath should take place before the night feed but think this probably relates to a baby that is sleeping longer through the night ie who has dropped at least one feed rather than at our stage. I have also read not to bath either before or after a feed which on either 3 hrly or demand feeding routine doesn't seem to be possible.
What does you find works for you? Should I just wake him a little bit earlier for one feed say in the evening and bath him and then feed?
Any advice would be great.

My little girl, Emily, is 9 weeks old today. What we do is usually give her a 'full' bath every second day, and just a wash on the change table with a face washer every other day as I don't think she needs a full bath every day at this age.
I have found that giving her a bath around 6 / 6.30pm & then a nice massage & a feed, she will usually then go down for a sleep around 7 / 7.30pm. She is now starting to sleep through until 12 / 1am. Having her bath or wash before her night time feed I think starts to set a routine that it's now 'bed time' and she then goes down for her longer sleep. I think it lets her get used to differentiating between day & night.
Hope that helps, I'm interested to hear what the other ladies say, but I find this works well for us.

Hi everyone,
was hoping its ok to join this awesome group... My little angel, Abbey Rose was born on the 27th Sep weighing in at 3.7kg, 53.3cm long. She is the apple of our eye and our first bubby. I went into labour on my birthday (the 26th) and a bit selfishly hoped that she wouldnt arrive on my birthday! Abbey made her appearance at 10:12am the next day.
I'm so glad to read that everyone else is going thru similar things. Although i admit Abbey is a pretty good baby. Smiling lots and lots. But boy does she Fart! at least the wind is coming out! She is a pretty good sleeper only waking around 4ish for a bum change and a feed, then sleeps thru till about 7:30ish. But i give her a dream feed around 10:30. Have trouble settling her some days for her night sleep, she is such a sticky beak and wants to look at everything.
Can get hard some days, cause i pretty much have her on my own until 10pm. My hubby and i own a service station, so he works long hours, and i find it frustrating when she is crying her head off and he is bouncing her around and not trying to settle her. Like this morning. Grrrrr, all she wanted was her dumdum and bed, not danced around the house.
We had a few wind issues early on, but now i've learnt my lesson after the second night we had her home and she screamed for about 3 hrs straight.
Have any of you had your bubby go a week without pooping? Abbey finally had her explosion this morning - lucky me!
Anyways, hope to catch up with you all soon, and will be great to get to know you all more :D

KatieJ - Welcome to our group and congratulations on the birth of Abbey Rose. We are a bit in newborn la-la land at the moment so it has taken a while to get on here and welcome you to our group. Look forward to getting to know you more over the coming months.
Leanne - DD2 is wearing 000 still and she was 9 weeks old yesterday. 000 is fitting her really well at the moment so I think we will be moving into 00 just after Christmas.
AFM - We are soooo sleep deprived at the moment. I don't know if DD2 has been sick or just had very bad wind (my other 2 have been sick). She is crying until about 2am, sometimes 3am, every night. I am co-sleeping with her atm as it is the only way that we have been able to get her to go to sleep and stay asleep. She does sleep for lots of 20 mins and wake up SCREAMING. We haven't been able to do the sleep routine with her because she just screams. I am feeling a bit over it at the moment. Extremely tired and overwhelmed. I have done this before and I know it gets better so I am clinging to that. I am still enjoying her heaps though and I just adore her. DD1 was very similar, but I don't think I enjoyed her that much but I think it is a self confidence thing. I feel a lot better about myself this time around which has helped me bond with DD2 better than I did with DD1.

Meadsie - we don't give Caitlin a 'proper' bath everyday - she gets a wash over her face, vagina, bum each day and if she is sick or has a pooplosion then we have a full bath even if she only had one a little while ago LOL.
AFU - Caitlin now weighs 5.8kg and gained 100g in 4 days there at one point LOL. We are doing really well apart from the cloth nappy situation. She hates them... I have tried various fabrics against her skin and she screams blue murder... I have no more ideas and am currently considering selling my stash because it is not worth the screaming and me feeling guilty that I have nappies but can't use them... but then I think maybe she will grow out of it and actually not scream at one point so I am not sure! Not much else to report.

My little fella is mainly in 000s still but he is only little - 4.26Kg. He still fits some of his 0000 clothes just depends on the make / brand. Its very frustrating that they are all different sizes so some 000s I have bought him are just way too big still:redface:.
Main problem I have is getting little trousers/shorts to fit him. Even the 0000s are too big! They just fall right off his waist - the top part to the sets fit perfectly but not the bottoms.
Did anyone else have this problem or are they not supposed to fit - I am talking seriously too big for him.

Meadsie - DS always had the problem with shorts and t-shirts. They come as sets, but often the t-shirts would fit and the shorts wouldn't fit until he was almost ready to go to the next size in t-shirts. I know a few people who have had this problem, moreso with boys clothes than with girls clothes. It is really annoying.
TK - That's disappoiting about the nappies. She might like them one day. Is her skin actually irritated or she just doesn't like them? I have found prolonged use of some brands of sposies also irritates my kids' skin so if you are using sposies instead, be careful. The only ones that don't seem to give them a rash over time are Woolworths Select nappies and Huggies.
AFM - Having difficulty with a nonsleeping cranky and very unhappy baby. Posted about it in the bfing support threads. I am still really enjoying her but struggling a lot because DH and I are not getting a minute to ourselves all day. DS is teething really badly as well and I think the lack of sleep, the lack of down time and missing my DH (even though I see him everyday but we don't spend anytime together because one of us is always settling DD2) is really getting to me a bit.
Sorry this is a bit short and not well constructed, trying to type quick as DD2 is crying ... again!

TK - Anelise also doesn't like clothy's... what is it with our girls? I love seeing her in a clothy bum but she just freaks out... maybe I need to perservere more as there is definitely no reason I can see for Annie not liking them. I am bummed enough at missing out on putting some newborn ones on her 'cause she was born too big... I don't wanna miss out on clothies altogether.
Leanne - Annie varies between 000 & 00. Most of the clothes I have bought her for Xmas are 000 because they're a little more on the big side. Annie is tall & skinny so it is frustrating to put her in any suits as they swim on her in the body but are too short so she has restricted arm & leg movement in them... thankfully it is no longer suit-ish weather.
Me - Anelise is booked in to have an ultrasound done on her injured shoulder on Dec 29. She has a lump that just hasn't gone away and has the Dr's perplexed. I am really worried now. I am keeping everything crossed that she will be ok. She is such a happy & funny baby... she giggles at everything and is so ticklish that she usually giggles when I change her nappy or her clothes. She was babysat for the first time on Sunday by my sister who just loved looking after her as my sister has 3 boys... having a girl around was a lovely change for my sis.
We had a great time in Sydney seeing Pearl Jam... what a concert... even in 42 degree heat, it was a perfect day :)
TG - her skin isn't irritated... I think it is that she can feel the wetness as opposed to the sposies??? Well that is the only thing I can put it down to... they aren't too tight, she isn't red or rashy... I have tried cloth liners that pull the wetness away from her but it doesn't seem to pull it away as much as the sposies do and that is when she cracks it. I am using Huggies. I found a place near me that sells boxes of them for $50 so am pretty chuffed with that!
Lisa - LOL I am sorry to hear Anelise is the same with cloth... but also glad to have a compadrae out there IYKWIM! I have been able to put Caitlin's newborn ones on her but not long enough to take many pics... she cries before hand LOL. Hope all goes well with the scan :hug:. How was the concert? I am so jealous... so so jealous!
AFU - we are off to swimming tomorrow for our third week. If today is anything to go by it should be good weather for a dip in the pool! I tried taking our chrissie pic today but the light was crap so am going to try again tomorrow. We haven't done our Santa pic yet... so many things to do LOL
TK - OMGosh the concert was AMAZING! Ben Harper did the most beautiful cover of INXS' "Never Tear Us Apart" And he & Eddie sang David Bowie's "Under Pressure" & "Indifference".
The rythym guitarist (Stone) sang his song "Mankind" and they also performed my all time favourite Pearl Jam song "Untitled"
Check out my pearl jam photo album on FB if you like. You may get more jealous though ;) My brother got a Ten Club ticket at the last minute from a friend and got to touch Eddie twice! That makes me totally jealous!
Hurro again, good to see i'm not the only one getting distracted easily! Abbey is only just in 000 clothes (mostly singlet suits cause its so damn hot!), but still wears 0000 shorts and T-shirts. Its frustrating when different brands are different sizes. Although its more frustrating that i got lots of gorgeous onesies and wintery kinds of clothes given to me, and she didn't get to wear them, cause the weather went from cold to hot in the space of a day. (from when i went into hospital to when i came out!)
Abbs had her 6-8 week check up and weighs in at just over 5kgs now and is very healthy. However the MCHN said that she has a fairly noticeable flat spot on her head which i think is an after effect from sleeping on that side. She got a massive lump from the vacuum and took a few weeks to go down, and so favours the side that wasn't puffy. She also has a tight neck and has given us some stretches to do with her. The last thing she noticed in the examination is that Abbey has a slighty fused labia. From what i've read in some other threads its nothing to worry about and should come apart on its own... Hopefully....
My Dh and I also managed to take bubs to the movies with us on Tuesday and she pretty much slept thru the whole thing. Thankgoodness for the sling!

my boy is in 0's now and is 6.5 kilos and 61cm long he is bigger than my friends 6 month old! i just can't believe it! he was only 8 pound 2 at birth! he now sleeps from around 7 or 8 until 4 or 5 in the morning which is great! i also graduate from uni in one week! YAY! life couldnt be better at the moment! i do have my down days where i still grieve the vaginal birth I dreamed of through the whole pregnancy but im slowly getting there, sorry for the me post! oh and one more thing i got my period 28 days exactly after have my bub, then the 2nd was exactly 28 days after that im now 2 days late which has only ever happened with my 2 pregnancies we used condoms but im a bit nervous still ive always been like clock work and am no longer breastfeeding so i dont know whats going on!

Finally have the time to get on and post. I playing single mum at the moment whist DH is away - I raise my hat to any single mums out there - hard work by yourself.
Jaida is in 0000 which she is just about growing out of only because of her cloth nappy though. They fit perfectly with a disposable.
Interesting situation with some bubs rejecting cloth nappies, Jaida is quite happy with hers and actually has never even complained about a dirty/wet nappy. I use the baby beehinds which have boosters I can add to the nappy. When Jaida has her long sleep from 7-4am I triple boost it and the outside of the nappy stays really dry and only the boosters are wet. We do use disposables when we are out but I dont like the way they dig into her skin although she doesn't complain.
Just Me (TG) - hope a breakthrough comes for your sleeping problems. Jaida reverted back to her newborn patterns and its killing me (will elaborate below) although she does sleep solidly. Hugs for you.

Hello to all newbies
AFM - interesting/difficult few weeks for us. I took Jaida for her 6-8wk check up and we found Jaida had only gained 200gms in a month. I was advised to increase her feeds so commenced waking her at 9pm for an extra feed but for whatever reason she reverted back to 4 hourly over night (she slept from 7-4am before) so I have been exhausted as I am used to getting sleep during this time. I am feeding Jaida 3 hourly during the day instead of 4 and am allowing her to wake for a feed herself now rather than me waking her. So last night she woke at midnight and then 5am. She better have put on a whole kg give the amount of time she is spending on the boob LOL.
The other thing we were advised to change was the amount of time on the boob. Jaida used to spend 1.5 hours and her feeds were getting longer - not shorter. Was advised to stop at 20mins per boob but the poor love wouldn't have a bar of that. So we were both stressed together. Have decided to yes get an extra feed in but also follow my own instincts - to much advice can do your head in !!
What else..... DH got a promotion so we are moving from Syd to Brisbane in 2 weeks !!!!! Given DH is working alot of the move will fall on my shoulders - how I will pack a house with a 10wk old in 2 weeks I have no idea but I am sure it will work out - has to as the removalist arrives on the 16th.

Just wondering how much play time you are giving your babies (though I know they can all be different).
Having just recently changed from a really strict feeding regiem (sp?) of every three hours during the day (slightly lower weight gains) I am struggling slightly to know how much play give my little one. He doesn't feed to sleep so is normally awake and alert after the feeds (apart from late evening and at night). I normally play with him for a little while either on my lap or else give him some time on his play mat. Once we've played for say 10 mintues or so I then put him down - however a lot of the time he doesn't go to sleep. In the mornings he will normally be content to lie there and look at his mobile and but in the late afternoons he is unsettled and I never know if he is hungry and looking to cluster feed or just overtired.
Should I be playing with him for longer now - he is 10 weeks old tomorrow. I am leaving him go to 4 hours during the day inbetween feeds so don't want to have him up so much that he will fall asleep right before he is due to feed again. We don't have any real routine as such yet but want to make sure he is getting at least six feeds in each day.

Just crashing your thread girls as I've been watching Meadie's progress ;) Hon, the best way is to work on 1.5 hours awake time then back down to bed - this includes a feed, nappy change and play. We learnt this at the 'day stay' we did at sleep school the other week and it works beautifully. Keep an eye out for his tired signs (yawning, clenched fists, disengaging/looking away, jerky movements) and get him ready for bed but generally at his age, 1.5 hours of awake time is plenty. Two hours max. I find my DD is so much easier to settle following this time frame. She'll generally be happy but showing a few tired signs around 1.5hours and by the time she is swaddled and has her dummy in, her eyes are getting heavy. Sometimes I have to work on settling her once she's actually in bed but often there isn't much fuss. Give it a go, it really does work a treat!
PS: I put Izzy down for a play after a feed. She either plays on her mat/play gym or in her rocker or we might go for a walk. We often do a bit of chatting too. I stop play time when she is either bored, is showing tired signs or it's been 1.5 hours since she woke up.
Thanks Taurean the only slight problem i can see with this is the lenght of time Sam takes to feed. including change time we are always at 1about hr 15 minutes this didnt then seam to give a lot of play time - hence the 10 minutes of play i had been doing.
Now i may be missing the tired signs - i am looking i promise :D but he doesnt seem to demonstrate them - he is always looking around checking things out so difficult to tell if that is disengaging. Doesnt really do clenched fists. May sometimes yawn and movements dont seem particularly jerky. When i do put him down quite often he wont actually go to sleep preferring to talk away to himself. Now what i do do sometimes (during day only) is put his mobile on if he is grizzling slightly when i put him down. This has 15 minute cycle and he will stare at that even after it has stopped going and be happy.
How long do Izzie's feeds take these days? I understand that in general he should be a bit quicker at feeding at this stage - though the problems we had in begining will be partially to blame here.

Meadsie - that is a long time to feed at his age. In saying that though, Izzy would hang off my boobs all day if I let her! She does often pull off when she's done but I can usually tell now that she's done on one side after 15 mins, 20 max. My lactation consultant told us to take her off after 20 minutes on a side when she was about 8 weeks old so maybe you should try that too. Our feeds last between 30 and 45 minutes now. I generally change her nappy before or after a feed as she doesn't nod off like she did when she was a newborn.
Ten to 15 minutes of play time is actually fine but they can also go for longer if they are happy and haven't been awake for too long. After seeing the changes in Izzy, I'm so happy with our 1.5 - 2 hour awake time schedule. It really works well. She is often quite happy playing so that's when I'll let her go closer to 2 hours but no longer. Even if she is happy, I put her to bed. It's amazing how quickly they can go from quiet and content to overtired and screaming!
I find Izzy's mobile is too much stimulation for her too so when she sleeps in her cot (only at night as she is in her hammock during the day), I don't turn the mobile on. She just ends up watching it until it stops then gets all upset because she's overtired and overstimulated!
Give it a go hon. Even if he isn't displaying many tired signs, there is a good chance he'll be ready for bed. He will probably protest at first but usually it's their tired cry/whinge and they are simply saying 'I'm tired mum so please help me go to sleep'. Izzy's whinge doesn't last long at all. I must say I do find it easier with her hammock though as I can rock/bounce her to settle her but she does just go straight down into her cot at night after a feed and cuddle in our arms.

Meadsie I agree with Taurean - 1.5-2hrs max. Jaida is a relatively slow feeder too. Have got her down to 40-50mins (from 1.5 hours). I then give her time in her bouncer and on the floor before putting her back to bed. Jaida gets grizzly and looks agitated when she's had enough. Jaida loves to kick and we first thought the more forceful kicks where just her discovering her legs we now know this is when she's plain fed up. Jaida does protest when we wrap her up but usually settles within 5 mins or so. She then sleeps for 40mins on the dot - 1 sleep cycle.
Jaida wont sleep from 3pm to bed time so I just keep her in her rocker and bounce harder when she looks like she is getting grumpy ;):lol:

I was just wondering whether anyone has been having any problems with their babies being 'clingy'. Emily is really bad at the moment, she just wants to be held all the time - which I understand is probably my own fault for carrying her around so much!!, but she has also started being really difficult when anyone else tries to hold her - even her Dad - she just cries when anyone else picks her up and won't stop until I take her :cry:
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get her out of this??? I am very conscious now of making sure that she spends as much 'mat time' as possible to get her more used to not being held, which is getting a bit easier now as she is starting to be more interested in toys and things to keep her occupied.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - especially with Xmas coming up, all the relly's will want to hold her and it gets really embarrassing when she just cries whenever they pick her up :redface:

Angela - Don't feel bad for holding your baby too much - I really don't think you can. Some babies are just like that and there is not a whole heap you can do about it - she will grow out of it eventually. Sorry that's not much help but be assured it is normal and it isn't because of anything you are doing.
Hi to everyone else.
I need to vent a frustration. DD2 has had horrible reflux and I know that it is reflux. After 2 weeks of waiting, we finally got her in to see the doctor yesterday and all I got was a very patronising 'All babies cry.' It's not just the crying (not that she is crying, she is screaming), it is the projectile vomitting, only sleeping for 20 mins at a time, making a face like she is tasting something bad all the time, losing her voice, constant discomfort, arching her back and the fact that her crying can go on for 5 to 6 hours constantly sometimes.
I hate to admit it, but I am not coping very well with any of it. I am just an emotional mess. We aren't sleeping - she cries all night and can't be put down but is really hard to hold because of the way she twists her body and goes all stiff. I just feel like I am not doing a good job with any of this at the moment - I am sooo tired and I dread weekdays when DH goes to work because I just don't know what I am going to face once he is gone. I am having way more bad days than good days at the moment too. DD1 and DS are just out of their trees because all I do all day is rock DD2 and try to get her to settle.
I am soooo sick of being told that babies cry, that's what they do. I friggin know that babies cry. I have had 2 other babies in the last 2 years and I KNOW THAT BABIES CRY!!! This is not just crying, there is something else wrong. I can't be bothered making an appointment to be seen by another doctor to be told the same thing. I am just sooo over it and feel quite alone with the whole thing.
My mum is really good and helps out. She mainly looks after the older two a bit but there is not much she can do with DD2 - she doesn't settle for my mum at all. She gets worse with anyone but DH and me. It is so exhausting because there is no break from it at all.
I am still enjoying DD2 a little bit and I am impressed with myself that I have been increibly patient with her and haven't lost it. I think I am taking it out on DD2 and DS though. I am really snappy with them and they are both just pushing the limits constantly because I am so distracted. I can't wait for this stage to be over.
I have been giving DD2 gaviscon infant and told the doctor yesterday and he said just to keep going with that and he didn't want to prescribe anything else. It worked well for the first couple of days and now we are back to where we were a couple of weeks ago.
Anyway, sorry to be such a dark cloud but I just needed to get that out.

Just Me - get a referral to a paediatrician. You will get so much more support from someone who works with children all the time. My GP was very understanding but it took two appointments before she would medicate DD for silent reflux and even then she was hesitant and doubted it was reflux. I didn't bother returning to see her about it again, I just took DD to her paediatrician (the one who'd seen her in hossi - we were private) and he recognised the symptoms straight away and put her on Losec immediately and we haven't looked back since.
Hopefuly you will get the support and someone to actually listen to you. You know your baby better than anyone and you know when something isn't right. Keep persevering hon and get the medication. I have no doubt it will make a world of difference.

AngelaK I am having a similar issue with Jaida at the moment except I have an issue when anyone Jaida doesn't know very well comes close to her even to just say hello, she bursts into tears. Its like she has just gotten really frightened and I agree it can be a little embarrassing. My friends just want to play with her and give her a hug but she wont have a bar of it. This is also one of the only times she really cries so when I tell people what a good baby she is I am sure they dont believe me as all she does is cry around them.:rolleyes: I found this got better after they had been around her for quite awhile.Even her father had to reaquaint with her over a day after being away for 2 nights. If you find the answer please let me know.

I think I forgot to mention before that the doctor weighed DD2 as well and wants to see us again in 2 weeks because she has only put on 1kg since she was born. She has dropped from the 90th percentile to below the 25th percetile (though is still 75th percentile for height). He was a bit worried about her weight gain but said that because she was such a big baby when she was born that might explain her weight loss. I am a bit dubious - I don't think she should be dropping percentiles like that. I haven't weighed her very much so I don't know if she is losing weight. Honestly, it feels like DD1 all over again. DS weighed 750g more than DD2 at the same age though his height and HC were exactly the same as her. DD1 weighed less with the same height and HC again but we did all her weights as bare weights and DD2 has been weighed with all her clothes on.
Anyway, I will try and get a referral from the doctor when we see him again in 2 weeks.
I got a 2 and a half hour nap this afternoon and am feeling so much better. DH and I both think we may be coming down with something. We are both feeling less than average which may explain my mood and the kids' moods this week. They are whingy and miserable - exactly how I feel. My glands are swollen at the moment as are DH's and the kids have a temp this afternoon so I think we are sick again!!! We have had two playdates in the last week and a half. The first one ended because my friends' little boy got a temp of 38.5 while they were visiting and the one we were meant to have this morning didn't happen because the little girl coming to visit woke up with a temp this morning. I am soooooooooo sick of us all being sick! It has literally been every second week since May and I am exhausted from it.
JM - sorry, I should have explained myself better! You need a referral from a GP to see a paediatrician if you want to claim it back from Medicare. We had a 3 month referral period from DD's birth date with her paediatrician - we were private patients. As she is now 3 months old, we need to get a referral to go back to see him again so we can continue to claim back from Medicare.
I'm not sure if that's the process Australia wide but I'd assume so. Give a paediatrician a call and see what they have to say. Sing out if you have any questions hon xx
JM - Angus had horrible reflux and screamed for 7 hrs each night. We found that he was easily overstimulated, so rocking etc just made his reflux worse and meant he couldn't settle or sleep while being held. We put the head of the cot up too, quite a bit, and that also helped. The overstimulation/rocking thing was a huge bit for us, once we stopped 'trying' so hard to settle him with rocking he calmed down a lot. It's hard to be the parent of a baby who cries, and everyone gives you advice, 99% of which doesn't work for your baby. I felt useless for ages, and then when I discovered he settled better when not being held or rocked, people would look at me weirdly because I hardly ever held him after being fed. You can't win sometimes!!

Heya all just poping in to say hi..... I can't believe my little man is already 3 months old. He's a happy chubby long (little) boy who is happy to be fed and left alone. He's a refluxy baby too, and letting him self-settle works best for him. Of course if he is screaming uncontrollably we will give him a cuddle.
He smiles when you go into his room and peer into his cot once he has woken up. Kicks his arms and legs about as if to say - well, come on, I'm here pick me up it's time to play...... I love him to bits.
He's almost 7kgs and 68cm long so we've got a basketballer in the making over here. IT was a little sad to put all my 000 on ebay recently as this is our last bubba and he's growing up way to quick.
anyway, enough of me - hope all is well for all. I have been reading all the posts. To all those who are sick, I hope you feel better soon. To all those with unsettled bubbas, I hope they settle soon.

Just curious... is anyone else baby rolling yet? Anelise perfected the belly to back roll about 2 weeks ago and last night rolled from back to belly. It is frustrating because she now rolls over in bed which just adds to my ever rising anxiety levels!
