Hi
Just wondering if anyone has tried a jumperoo for their baby for entertainment. My little one loves standing and I thought it might be a bit of fun for him and something different than just standing on mummy tummy! Has anyone tried them and if so what brand and did your little one like them.
Thanks
Jumperoo? Is that like a jolly jumper? If so then yes, Anelise has been using one for a little over a month now and she loves it. She spins around in it and jumps like a mad woman! lol
She prefers to stand when she is being held, so the jolly jumper has been a bit of a life saver for those times that I need a 5 min break from her.
It's always so quiet in here. Where has everyone gone?
Oh well, it's almost midnight and I'm about to go to bed.
Anelise has been on solids now for a week and the change in her is astounding. She is sleeping soooooooooo much better and is so much less sooky. She is having 2 (yes 2!) feeds of solids per day as the one didn't seem enough. So far she has had mango, blueberries, avocado, carrot, pumpkin, banana, stewed apple, jar pear and now she has started to have some rice cereal. Anelise HATES avocado so I am thinking now that I know she is ok with banana, I may mix the 2 together as Harrison loved avocado & banana mixed together.
Other than that, not much as been going on. How's everyone else going?
Hi Everyone - thought I should drop back in here since it has been a couple of months ... I can't believe how quickly the time is passing!!!
Lisa - I was so relieved to read you started Annelise on solids - I started DD2 last week as well. I have been avoiding mentioning it anywhere because it seems to be a bit of a taboo. I got the the point where I was feeding her every hour and she was still hungry and unsatisfied. We started giving her food in the late afternoons last week and by the end of last week she was having solids 3 times a day. She can't get enough. DD2 is polishing off a whole jar of baby food at dinner time and half a jar in the mornings and half a jar at lunchtimes. I can't get over how much she is eating. She is so happy though and has gotten into a really good feeding pattern now. I BF her at b'fast time, morning tea time, lunch time, afternoon tea time, dinner time, supper time and usually sometime between 3am and 4am. She has put herself in that routine and it works great! My DD1 was very similar to DD2 with solids and started them at just after 4 months. DS wasn't ready for them until a week before he was 6 months old though.
Anyway, DD1 needs to go to the toilet - gotta go :)
Hi everyone,
I am sorry I haven't been in here for AGES. I have been having a really rough time lately. I went to my GP a few weeks ago and told him I thought I might have PND. We talked about it a bit and he said I was just taking a bit longer to adjust to motherhood. I left feeling quite dejected and felt silly... maybe I was just taking longer to adjust to this new role...
Things were getting worse and I started seeing a kinesiologist for stress management. It has been good then over the weekend just gone it has all gone to pot... I feel really down and just not able to cope. DP and I have had massive arguements... I am going to see another GP today at 2.45pm to talk because something is not right.
DP and I almost split up this weekend gone... we may still... things are all up in the air.
I have been reading just not able to post.
DD is 6mths old tomorrow - eek! We will be starting solids then but I have no idea if DD is ready... she still has a strong tounge thrust but I will try it and if she doesn't take to it then... we shall try again. I am going to do Baby Led Solids (BLS)... just need to get my head around it LOL
Hope you are all well and your gorgeous bubbas too xox
huge huge  TK - I am feeding at the moment and have to go out when I'm done so even though I want to write more typing one handed is a bit hard. You are taking a lot of blame on yourself about things and that is a bit concerning. I think it is a really good idea for you to talk to a doctor and get another opinion. Not all doctors are very good at diagnosing psyhcological issues - they are harder than physical illnesses. There is a checklist on beyond blue that will give you an idea if you have PND and if the doctor doesn't at least do that much with you then I would be wary of his opinion. Sorry this is a bit dijointed ... typing one handed.
Here is a link to the downloadable questionaire - it is not just something produced by beyond blue - I have completed this as a routine thing at least one prenatal checkup at the hospital with every baby and at least once with my GP after every baby. beyondblue: the national depression initiative
Good luck Tk. My thoughts are with you.
Hi All,
Yes it has been quiet in here - was starting to get a complex that no one liked me :lol:.
TK 1999 - big hugs for you. I agree with Just me - you need to see someone else. Mums would not mention PND to GP's unless they really need help. I hope the next appt provides a little more support. Please jump on here regularly and we can support you through the tough times as well.
Lisa and Just me - am super keen to start Jaida on solids and am also interested in the Baby led weaning so am ready up on that at the moment. Just Me can I ask whether you have a big bub or little bub - ie weight. Jaida is still very little - 6.1kgs and only puts on very small amounts over a month despite being feed 6 times a day. I am thinking she may start putting on proper weight when on solids. With all that food going into your bub will be interested in hearing how much weight has also been gained IYKWIM.
AFM - only issue at the moment is bub rolling on her tummy in bed and then not being able to roll back. She has been waking 4 times during the night because of this. Any suggestions??
Ok firstly, Congratulations JM & Easha on your RAK's! How beautiful :)
TK - I am soooo sorry to hear youré having a bad time lately hun... this whole motherhood thing is hard enough as it is without PND being thrown in with it. I truly hope you find a much more caring & understanding GP who can lead you on your way to finding yourself again. Sorry to hear the kinesiology isn't helping, I was going to start kinesiology myself but I am worried about what may pop up that I may not be ready to deal with as yet (mostly losing Noah)
Thinking of you and I hope you and K can work together as a couple to get through this. Please know I am here for you if you ever need me... you know where to find me ;)
JM - I am so gald to hear I am not the only one who's bub has a big appetite! Anelise eats soooooooooo much! Like your DS, Harrison wasn't interested in solids until 6 months, but my eldest DS started at 4mths. Good to hear your LO is going great guns with her eating too.
Easha - Anelise weighs 6.4kgs approx, need to have her weighed properly though,. I had soooooooo many weight gain issues with Harrison and solids definitely helped with those. I guess the best thing to do is what feels right for you & your family. As for the rolling over in bed, Anelise was doing that too and it was driving me batty checking on her what felt like 100 times through the night, so now we wrap her when she goes to sleep. Se does protest a little but she eventually sleeps and is fine. If it is going to be a warm night, I just put her in a nappy & singlet under the wrap. I use flanette ones from Big W as they're the only ones that still fit her.
Hi all
Glad to see that we have a few people back on line and hope all and bubs are well.
TK really sorry to hear what you are going through and hope that your second doctors appointment has given you a little bit more encouragement support for how you are feeling. As JM suggested do the questionaire and it will give an indication of where on the line you currently are at. It may also be worth giving them (Beyond Blue) a call as they may be able to point you in a direction of a doctor who would have some understanding of these sort of issues. Is there also someone sympathetic that you can speak to in your local health centre?
Due to my LOs lower weight gains and whether it was my continuing efforts to breast feed that were the cause of his lower weight gains I really struggled over our first few months as this in turn then caused me to doubt myself and my ability to be a mother on all levels and I found my anxiety levels rising and rising. One of the health nurses at our local health centre was great. She could see that I was finding it difficult to cope and told me to go to my doctor who luckily is very experienced in dealing with new mums and their anxieties and concerns and also referred me to one of the counsellers in our local day stay to talk through how I was feeling. Just feeling that there was someone who was prepared to listen actually made me feel a little bit better and more able to cope. While the counseller didn't feel that I had PND she did feel that I was finding the adjustment to motherhood more difficult that other mothers may find it. My personality / how I like things to be can effect this and she is now going to go through with me techniques for learning how to deal with anxiety what it appears. Is there something similar in your local area. The one I went to in Dalwood in Seaforth. I would try to see if your local centre can give you assistance on who you could speak to. I know that this worked well for me. HTH and happy to let you know more if you need to.
Oooh solids well were are just about to embark on that journey. Had Sam back at Paeds last week - just follow up due to earlier lower weight gains - and he told me start him on solids. No reason to wait and will do him the best of good! Yikes just reading up now on what I need to do. Am a little nervous as to whether it will have any impact on his milk intake. With all the issues I had in the begining I don't want to go down that road again so am going to have to choose carefully as to what time of day I give him his solids - any suggestions? I am uncertain as to whether he is ready or not but no harm in giving it a go if he spits it all back out and isn't interested then will wait a few days and try again. Though having tasted rice cereal I wouldn't blame him for spitting it all back out
Lisa Jumperoo is like the Jolly Jumper but sits on the floor on a frame rather than in a doorway. Got a bargin as Babies R U were having a sale and it was half price - woo hoo! His little feet don't touch the floor so I've had to put a cushion underneath so he'll be able to push himself up. He doesn't quite get what he is supposed to do yet but was better in it today that yesterday. Bit by bit he'll learn.
Anyhoo hope you all have a good week and chat soon.
NW3
Easha - DD2 was born rather big (4.1kg but 53cm long - she was the 97th percentile for weight) she is now in the 75 percentile for her height and only the 25th for her weight (she hasn't quite gained 2kg since she was born - she weighs about 6kg though she is 64cm long - she is exactly the same as my other DD at the same age). She has a HUGE appetite, though so does my DD1 but from the looks of them both of them have inherited my DH's metabolism and body shape.
DD2 has always fed a lot during the day, but between 6 weeks and 4 months did not wake up for night time feeds between 9.30pm and 6am (all my babies have followed the exact same pattern of sleeping through from 6 weeks and then needing a night time feed again from 4 months - weird!). I wonder if that contributes slightly to her weight being lower on the percentiles. I am not worried, she looks healthy and eats well. I watch her moods more than her weight to determine if she is hungry.
Hungry babies tend to be very fussy and inconsolable. They may go to sleep for a little bit and wake crying regularly after a short period. If they aren't being fed properly for a long period of time then they get very lethargic and don't have the energy to scream anymore (I know this because my milk dried up with DD1 around 3 months and I didn't realise, she lost a kg without me realising. She gained it back within 2 weeks of being on formula - having had more babies and seeing their weight gains as being the same as hers around 4 months has eased some of my guilt about starving her for a couple of weeks).
Solids never really boosted the weight gain of any of my kids - they still just gain slowly. Different kids, different ways their bodies metabolise food I think.
Anyway, hope something in that ramble is helpful.
TK - I saw in another thread that you went really today. I hope the GP listened to you a bit better this time
Lisa and NW3 - DD2 absolutely adores her Jolly Jumper. She has been using it since the day she was 3 months old (that's when it says they can use it). She likes it because she can see the world.
Well, I have 3 sleeping children and I am off to bed. Goodnight all :)
Thanks ladies for your support. It means a lot to me... and I am sorry I didn't come in for support earlier... just was not in a good headspace and also didn't really want to admit that something was wrong
I went to the GP and as JM says it was a lot better... she listened to me!! This was the first time I had seen this doctor (she is the GP of one of my friends)... I am impressed with how quickly she acted on what I had told her as opposed to my GP (who I have been seeing for 10+ years) who dismissed everything I said.
So I have been referred to the Perinatal Mental Health team, I will be starting meds today (won't hinder BFing which was my main concern) and new GP and I will draw up a mental health care plan today and I will start seeing a psychologist.
DP and I have a long road ahead of us... I don't know if we will come out the other side as a couple or what... but for DD's sake we both agree that we need to be civil.
Happy 6months to my DD!! I can't believe it... we have a clinic appointment for the 6month checkup and then we are going to start solids tonight for dinner... not the optimal time to start I don't feel but it will only be for tonight. I want DP to be here when she has her first try of solids. From tomorrow we will have solids at lunchtime.
I promise there will be persies next time
Happy 6 months to your gorgeous DD, TK. I am so glad that you found a GP that listened ... it makes such a difference. I think sometimes everything can feel so much worse when you know something is wrong, but the doctor just dismisses it. Good on you for getting a second opinion. I really hope that you start to feel better soon. Thanks for posting and letting us know how you are going. Good luck with your relationship with your DP too. I hope you guys can work it out but if you can't, good on you for agreeing to be civil. We are all here for you anytime
Hi All,
TK - glad you have got great support now. I am sure it will make such a difference.
Thanks all for you input on weight gains and solids. Jaida is feeding 6 times a day and is still a great sleeper at night (except for her waking with rolling. She is very happy and active as well so I think I will just forget about weight gains IYKWIM.
Jaida is obsessed with rolling on her tummy. Once she is there she whingies about being there so we help her roll back and within 2 mins she is back on her tummy again :wall::wall:. I suppose at least she will eventually pick up how to roll back. She woke 3 times last night due to this and give we live in QLD she already sleeps in a singlet and nappy with a thin wrap. DH thinks we should tie one leg down:redface:. We found her asleep on her tummy though so at least she can do this if need be.
As with everything else this is just a phase which will hopefully sort itself out soon.
Anyhow bubs up again after sleeping after swimming so got to go.
Definitely don't worry yourself over the weight gains Easha. That is one thing I learned with Harrison as he was slow to gain weight. In the end, all babies are different but as long as they're happy, healthy & meeting their milestones then all is fine (even the milestones differ between kids too)
You're doing a great job with Jaida. I didn't realise you were in Qld as your location says Sydney... so I guess wrapping bub with something stronger isn't such a great idea ;)
Teething!!! OMG, anyone else?
This is all I can put it down to as Anelise is having phases of whinging moments. When she has them she drools like nothing else. I hope she teethes faster than Harrison. Harry went through the whole teething issues but didn't get his first tooth until 16 months! Yep you read right, 16 months.
Hey
Ooopps - we moved to Brissy just before Xmas and I haven't updated my profile yet - must get onto that.
Teething - Jaida has 2 little buds on her gums that made an appearance about a month ago and then nothing since. She drools like crazy but has done so since day dot anyway. She is a big fan of chomping on anything and everything and the frozen teething rings and cold washers are her favourite. Who know's when the teeth will do anything further.
Anelise has 2 little bumps on her gums but nothing else. She definitely loves chomping down on facewashers and especially her bibs. I haven't tried her on the frozen rings yet, we do have one in the freezer so I might give it a go next time she has an attack of the whinges.
hey my lovely belly mummas!
sorry i havent been in here in agessss!
As some of you may know i am already preg with #2. Hoping for a girl so fingers crossed.
it deff was not a plan but me and DP had a oopsie on our anniversary and well this one couldnt keep away!
anyway hope all your beautiful babies are growing strong!! i cant believe how time has flown by!!
xxx
Congratulations Brooke! Sending out loads of pink vibes for you. What brilliant news! Your bubba's will be so close growing up. I have a really close friend who's daughters are 10 months apart and they're really close, it is so cute.
Hi everyone. Hope you're all well.
Nothing much to report here. Anelise is upping the efforts to crawl, so I am thinking it isn't going to be too far off. She has realised though that if she rolls, and rolls and rolls, she can get from one side of a room to the other and by the look on her face when she does it, she is mighty proud of herself too :) lol
Annie has started making these funny little wah wah honk noises when she is sooky... we call it her bike horn and she mostly does it to get her Daddy's attention when he is doing something. It's hilarious!
yes they will be about 11months apart if all goes to plan :)
I am very nervous on how im going to do it! but im very excited to say the least! :D
Im dredding the naming game tho if i get a pinky!!! :wall: we have boys names all done and dusted! but there is WAYYYYY to many pretty girl names:(
Oh Brooke I know! I had the hardest time coming up with a name for Anelise. I had Charlize, Vivienne, Veronica, Evelyn among others on my list. Charlize was 'the' name for ages and then I feel in love with Anelise.
i know i am loving soooooo many:wall:
i have 1 problem though DP, he only wants/likes AVA.
Ideally i would like that to be a middle name as im really liking
Charlotte
Zahlie
Georgia
Baylee
Ellah
Imogen
Sienna
Amelia
Mia
Tarlii
or Heidi
hahaha see my problem!!!!!
I briefly liked Georgia for my first daughter but I wanted her to have the same middle name as me (Jane) which is a carried down name... Georgia Jane doesn't sound too good (she is Madeleine)
Off your list I love the name Zahlie.... I worked with a Zarlie once and she was the loveliest person, it is just such a pretty name!
I also love Imogen & Amelia. I liked Ava before it became really popular again, but someone we know used it for his daughter so I then liked Eva (prononuced Ee vAh, not like Ava), but I personally like names that can be shortened so that didn't stay on our list for long.
Well its reassuring to know that Sam isn't the only one with a taste for facecloths :D:. I end up having to have two when I bath him now one for him to suck on and the other to clean him with.
Though to tell the truth he is sucking on everything he can get his hands on at the moment. I can't feel any little teeth coming through yet but I know they can take months to come through. I am sure the little bubs can feel them as they are pushing through. I got one of the frozen rings last week but think I'll have to get type as this appears to be just a little bit big for him at the moment.
Well Sam is getting used to his jumperoo though isn't really bouncing too much yet. I think he is slowly figuring out what to do and each time he uses it seems to try something else. I just keep showing him what the different toys can do and then leave him to try them himself. Really looking forward to when he will "get" it and hope we can get some funny videos of him going mad in it.
Well dont have rolling in our cot yet so sorry can't help you there Easha but we do have travelling up the cot. He starts off at the bottom and ends up near the top and out of the covers which is what wakes him as we've the air con on in his room so he gets a bit cool. I have just started him today at GymberRoo so I am sure the rolling will start really soon at the moment he only does it sometimes at tummy time. He does do a funny little shimmy with his hips when on his back though as he lifts his bum off the floor.
Has anyone else noticed any changes in the way their bubs are feeding and waking at the moment? Sam appears to be all over the place at the moment and it is very difficult to predict when he will wake, sleep or feed. He has also started whinging slightly at some of his feeds - I can't work out if he is getting frustrated that flow is to slow or if flow is a bit fast - he is sucking and most of the time doesn't actually come off but stays on but gives little cries when on there and sometimes will pull back when still attached to the nipple (ouch).
Any advice or thoughts on the best time of the day to offer him solids. I guess I should do it the same time every day? For those of you who have started already do you do full breast/bottle feed first and then offer the food or do half feed then solids followed by remainer of milk? You get advised to do both depending on which book you read. I gave Sam some rice cereal at the weekend and he had some of it. He definitely didn't spit it out but think he might have been a little bit more interested if he was hungrier. Though I really don't want to interfer with how much milk he takes as we had heaps of problems in the begining with his feeding.
Congrats Brooke on your pregnancy hope it all goes well.
I feed Anelise solids twice a day now, she has some rice cereal mixed with fruit around 9am (after the big kids have gone to school) or just fruit, and at dinner time she will have vegetables, which is anywhere between 5-7pm. I usually give her solilds, then top her off with milk.
I don't know what time would be best to start Sam on solids for you, maybe just pay some attention to when he is displaying signs of being curious about food... like getting angry when you're eating, opening his mouth & mimicking chewing.
I have found that Anelise isn't sleeping as much through the day anymore, she is quite active through the day but will have a nap or 2. She does however sleep 12hrs or more at night if she is wrapped.
hey everyone long time no see!
so hard to catch up!
well jonathan is a big 9.5 kilo 5 and a half month old! his tooth disappeared, but will prob arise again some time soon...
Oh and I got a new job I started fulltime last week at greenslopes private in brissy in the neuro/stroke ward and I love it but my little one starts day care tomorrow 3 full days a week and I feel terrible about it :( but we need the money and I still want a career and now realise you CAN have both! its wonderful we also can't wait to try for number 2! one more year to go!!! then number 3 then the SNIP!
sorry for the me post but so so busy i have 10 shifts in a row starting tomorrow and have to get bubs AND DF organised!

keep us posted xxx
Hi All,
Hope everyone is well. Sorry, I haven't been on in ages!!!
TK - really sorry to hear about your struggles, I hope things are still going better for you, big :grouphug: from us all.
Easha - Emily also has 2 little buds on her gums, drooling like crazy as well.
Brooke - A big congrats on the pregnancy, my DH is pushing for us to start trying for #2 asap, but I'm putting it off as I just can't imagine having another one yet.
MHB - keep us updated with your news, I'm starting to think maybe it's a good thing having #2 so close - it would surely make it easier as they get older, keeping each other company etc :).
Anyway, sorry no time to do personals to everyone, I'm sure you all understand!
Hi All,
Yay !! Got little girl down for a morning sleep so have time to post
Now were 3 - am having similar issues with sleeping and feeding. Yesterday Jaida only had 1 sleep of 40mins and the day before she didn't sleep at all. Its hit and miss sometimes. As for feeding Jaida is doing the same as Sam. Whinging and crying on the boob and when swapping sides. It think she is wanting more milk than I have. She seems satisfied after the 2nd boob though.
MHB - congrats on the job and keep us in the loop re: AF. DH and I have decided to wait until 2011 to try again.
Brooke - congrats on a new bub and hope she's a girl for you. How are you feeling??
AFU - being a single parent at the moment with DH away for work. It has been ok but certainly gives you an appreciation of having DH here to assist. Jaida is growing so quickly and is trying to sit, doesn't like being on her back at all. She gets frustrated as she pushes her toys away and then cant reach them. Yesterday you could see her trying to get on her knees....... my determined girl will be crawling soon.
Good to hear from you all
easha- Im feeling pretty good today, im going through a breakup with ex "fiancee" so its been a extremly emotional and tiring week! i have my sister coming up tomorrow to help me cancel all my wedding plans!
as for my pregnancy its going pretty smoothly so to speak my MS has died down ALOT which is great, im getting extra tired though! and im dying from the heat.
Oscar is getting so big now :( his sitting up on his own and ive started him on solids- (pureed) he lovesssss apples! i have been going to the organic fruit market every sunday morning and buying fruit and veg and pureeing it! its quick and its easy and most of all he loves it!
ive copped alot of slack off some people for starting him on solids at 5mths! but i havent payed much attention! does anyone think its bad?
i find his alot happier his sleeping better and interacting alot more not whinging as much and not as clingy! his FF also..
anyway enough from me:) hope your all having a lovely weekend!!
Hi all - hope all and bubs are doing good.
BM sorry to hear about breakup and hope you get through it okay and cancelling all the plans are not too stressful. I personally wouldn't worry about starting at 5 months and basically advice seems to fluctuate between 4-6 months. I think the only thing that is important is that their milk intake doesn't drop as this is still where they get their main nutrition from. At the end of the day if the baby doesn't want it isn't ready they won't take it. Our paed advised us to start a few weeks ago and my LO is a few weeks younger than Oscar.
Easha hope the single life isn't too bad and your DH is home soon. Its funny at this stage that they can become bored with doing something so quickly. They certainly now require actual entertaining. Jaida sounds very advanced trying to get on her knees already - you'll have a crawler soon. Sam isn't anywhere near that. Not really that interested in rolling. We do quite a lot of tummy time but he is happy to lie there resting on his elbows looking around. Have just started taking him to GymbaRoo so hopefully this will make a difference. I guess they all develop at different times. He is pretty vocal and loves standing so am not worried about his development.
Lisa and Angela hope all is going well for both of you. How are Emily's teeth coming on Angela?
MHB any further news?
AFU well started Sam on solids which seem to be going down a treat. If he took to BFing as well as he has taken to solids life would have been so much easier in the begining rather than the nightmare that we had  Had a bit of false start last weekend where he took it but didn't seem hugely enamoured by the whole thing. In hindsight I think i'd made it too runny. Left it for a few days and tried again and made it a little bit thicker well he gobbled it up. We did rice cereal for the first 3 days starting off on 1 teaspoon, then two and then a tablespoon on day 3. He is funny he is already grabbing my hand and pulling it to his mouth and whinges if I don't give him the food quickly enough. I gave him pumpkin today which he also seemed to like so will try that for the next few days and then look at introducing another veggie. I've a nice little batch of pumpkin freezing now. Decided on the evening feed (6pm ish) as the best time to start mainly because its the easiest to know that I will definitely be here for. Once we've done a week or so of evening feeds then I'll introduce another one in and probably try his second feed of the day. His BFs seem to have settled down slightly with no whinging over the last few days but in saying that he'll probably prove me wrong and be awful tomorrow.
Okay thats all for now. Going to sit and watch a little bit of the Winter Olympics before I have to wake the little chap for his 10.30pm feed.
Hi All,
Long time no speak but very quick post
Brooke - hope you doing ok with everything you have been through recently
Now were 3/Brooke - my single parent lifestyle is over (for now), it nice having DH home.
Am going to be starting Jaida on solids soon as well - I'm quite excited and am looking at the Baby Led weaning method... am reading up on it now.
Any advice on good highchairs and do you ave any ideas about where I can get a spill mat for under the highchair?
Thanks
Hi everyone :hello:
No real time for personals, but thought I would just pop in to say hello.
NW3 - We're doing well thanks hun :)
Easha - Best advice I can give you is to buy a high chair that has a removable tray for cleaning... and make sure it is easily cleaned... the places kids can put food are unbelievable. There is a chair that can be used as a high chair and later on as a booster type seat at the dining table... they look pretty good if you're into something that will last ages. I am using Harrison's old high chair for Anelise as it is in great condition still. We picked it up for fairly cheap too ($120?), it is a childcare brand one... unfortunately it doesn't have a removable tray on it though :(
Anelise is going great with her solid foods... she is eating pretty much everything we eat now (apart from meat). Tonight she had a treat of stewed apple, apricot & carrot... she loved it. She definitely perfers her vegies at the moment though. Hopefully she stays that way ;)
Hi All,
BM - I agree with Now were 3 about solids, I hear differing opinions ranging from 4 - 6 months being a good time to start, my personal feeling is that if they are showing some interest in what you are eating then it is ok to start - they will soon let you know if they don't want it!
Now were 3 - Emily sounds pretty much the same as Sam, she isn't at all interested in rolling, and still doesn't like tummy time. We have also just started GymbaRoo which I think is already making a bit of a difference.
As for Em's teeth, not too much movement there, I can just see and feel them under her gums, but they don't seem to be doing much, nor are they causing her too much trouble. Just lots of chewing and drooling on things :). I have been trying to find a teether that she can actually fit into her mouth, all the ones I have found are fairly round and as she only has a little mouth, she can't get them in far enough to chew on her teeth. Does anyone know where I might find something more suitable?
AFU - We have also had some trouble with feeding, whinging and crying on the boob and wanting to swap sides etc, I thought it must have something to do with my milk supply . I spoke with a mothercraft nurse at the local pharmacy yesterday and she suggested that I try drinking some stout (just a small amount, about 1 - 1 1/2 inch in the bottom of a glass mixed with lemonade or soda), she said to try this for two days, three times a day, apparently the yeast is really good in helping increase milk supply. I will let you know how it goes!!
Hope everyone else is well.
Angela - Have you seen the recipe for Lactation cookies? They have brewers yeast in them as well as flaxseed... both are meant to help with supply. The cookies are really yum too.
I will post the recipe if you're interested and don't have it.
Thanks Lisa,
I don't have that recipe, it would be great if you could post it for me. :D
I found that brewers yeast was a little difficult to find... we eventually found the little sachets of them in Big W. They are really yummy. DH & the kids loved it too. I ate them with a big glass of Activite which is apparently also helpful for your milk supply.:
Lactation Cookies
* 1 cup butter or marg
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 4 tablespoons water
* 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal
* 2 large eggs
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 2 cups flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3 cups oats, thick cut if you can get them
* 1 cup or more chocolate chips
* 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast* (be generous)
Preheat oven at 180 degrees C. Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3-5 minutes. Cream (beat well) margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the margarine mix. Beat until blended. Sift together dry ingredients, except oats and chips. Add to margarine mixture. Stir in oats then chips. Scoop or drop onto baking sheet, preferably lined with parchment. The dough is a little crumbly, so it helps to use a scoop.
Bake 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cookies.
Serves: 6 dozen cookies
Preparation time: 15 minutes
*can be found at any local health food store. Don't substitute brewer's yeast for anything else... that's what makes 'em work!
*Raw dough works 10 fold apparently

Hi, I was just hoping to join this thread coz my DD was born on 23/9/09.
Happy half-birthday to all your little ones who must've been reaching the 6 month mark in the last couple of weeks :)
