Um... NO she keeps putting her hands in her mouth because she has figured out that they are hers and found a place to keep them safe (ie her mouth!) and no nothing is more filling than my milk for her at the moment... der why else would she be putting on WEIGHT!

I got the whole, "I put my kids on cows milk when they were [insert amount of months here] old and they turned out fine" from my MIL the other day. I have been getting that from her since our first baby. I think she forgets that I have heard it all before! lol. She also used to put farex in their bottles to thicken the milk, and one of their first foods was a softened arrowroot biscuit. Yep, sooo gonna follow her advice. I just nod and smile, as I have been for the past 7 years. :)

My mum always used to tell me to put farax in the bottles, try the babies on arrowroot biscuits, start cows milk before 12mths etc etc etc. One day I snapped and told mum that perhaps her starting me off on arrowroot biscuits & cows milk is probably why I havs struggled with my weight my whole life! Mum agreed that perhaps it was. Now mum doesn't dare say anything, she just goes along with whatever I'm doing.
On a different note... Anelise is offically wearing Crawler nappies as of last night. She probably should have been in them earlier but I wanted to finish off the infant nappies we had. Awwww... my big girl! lol
I just bought Isabel a packet of crawler nappies the other day! She is growing so much...

You all gave me such a good laugh with your MIL stories. Mine always refers to 'we' as in ' 'we' used to do this.... ' we' used to do that..... who's 'we' I wonder lol. I'm apparently feeding her way to often. It should be 4 hourly apparently. I then bring to her attention that give Jaida sleeps through the night she cluster feeds during the day. All in all we do 5-6 feeds just like she did 35 yrs ago. Funny aren't they.
Just took Jaida to her first swimming lesson and although a little unsure she was smiling towards the end. It is costing $17.50 per lesson which seems expensive - how much does it costs you all.
How much are your bub weighing now. Jaida has really just gone to infant nappies (from new born) and is 6.1kgs. She is quite a bit littler than the other bubs there today though.
MiLs are funny... so are mums somtimes he he. My mum has been pretty good - she tells me how she did things but acknowledges that times change - she tells me about way back when so we compare on how things do change rather than so I will do it that way if that makes sense and it is also interesting to hear how mum did things with me.
DPs mum throws in the watered condensed milk did DP no harm... maybe you should try that. I just smile and tell her things have changed and then I say I will check with the nurse... because they are big fans of "the nurse" LOL
DD is still fits in infant nappies quite comfortably LOL - she is 6.7kg. We currently have a box of Crawlers because I picked up the wrong box :redface: shows I shouldn't shop when I haven't had much sleep (not due to Caitlin... I had a cup of coffee and then I couldn't sleep LOL). I might just stick with the Crawlers from now on.

I just bought my first pack of infant nappies yesterday - Emily still fits into the Newborn size, but I didn't want to buy a whole new box of newborns as they probably won't fit her for much longer - the infant size seems soooo big on her!! :lol: Everyone comments on how tiny she is, she finally hit 5kg at her last weigh on Tuesday - 5.09kgs. :dance:
As for MIL's, mine is pretty good, she did suggest the milk arrowroot biscuit though!! But she's very aware of the fact that things have changed so much since DH was a baby... The first time we left Emily with her for an hour, she put her to sleep in the portacot with a heap of teddies all around her in the cot!!!! :o

I'm not sure how much Anelise weighs right now. I will have to get her weighed soon.
Angela - That is sooooooooooo something my Mum would do. I freak out about leaving Anelise with my Mum as Mum would put her on my bed with pillows under the covers to keep her in one spot IYKWIM. My Mum had an accident 3yrs ago that has affected her memory so she forgets a lot of the new things and goes back to the old ways a lot. I just have to make sure if I do leave the younger kids with her, she knows exactly what can & can't be done.
Anybody else have a baby who always wants to co-sleep? Anelise wakes around 4am every day and plays around until we wake up and put her into bed with us, then she sleeps through til 9-10am! Funny little girl :)

OMG that's exactly what I am getting now ...... Joshie needs food cause he is big. blah blah blah..... I actually gave in the other day and gave him a little rice cereal and he screamed blue murder for 3 hours afterwards probably cause it gave him a belly ache. He's growing quick enough, he can wait until he's 6 months old.... grr..
OMG I thought I was the only one with a later mover from newborn to infant nappies. I've just moved Sam who will be four months next weekend to infant. You are right they now look so big on them in comparison to the newborn. Also just how difficult is it to find infant nappies. Most of the time the supermarkets don't seem to carry them.
Had him weighed yesterday and he had put on 400g in two weeks so hit the scales at 5.46kg - wooo hooo. Don't know about you but I find it very tough and worrying when he is so small in comparison to other babies. Its not helped by random people making comments as to his size. I was in the parents room last week when another new mother asked me how old he was and then said - oh he's small isn't he!!!! Grrrr - I would have thought that she'd know better being a new mum and all the self doubts that you can have.
People can't help but comment. Josh is almost 8 kg and only has 4 bottles a day and people say I feed him too much.'
So what I am trying to say is bubbas all grow at different rates in their own time but as long as you know you are doing the best for them that's the best you can do. I really get ticked off by people and their coments cause it plants a seed in your mind to start doubting your own abilities. Well it does for me anyway.
Anyway, that's it from me for now.

Quick question - do you think bubs can get constipated even if they are exclusively breastfeed?? Jaida has not gone since Wednesday although I would say that was a No 3... it went everywhere. I know they say some bubs can go 5 days without No 2's but she also is a little irritable. Her belly is not distended but she doesn't seem to like me moving her legs around. She is still farting like a trooper.... such a lady LOL
What do you think? If you think it is constipation how can I help her??

Hoping it is not too late to join this thread. I am new to these forums, but think this will be a great help for me.I have just made it in, my son Benjamin Thomas was born 30th Sept at 6.06pm. He was 3.605kg and 54cm long. I delivered him after 9 hours of active labour (though contractions started the night before).
We have had a tough few months with reflux and colic, but we seem to be coming out of the fog:clap:, and have had a week of good sleep. I'm a bit freaked out though at this talk of 4month sleep regression I have been reading about. He is sleeping well, but I'm terrified that we will go back to the bad old days again:pray:.
I'm breastfeeding (with the aid of a nipple shield) and it has been a bit of a bumpy road but seem to have settled into a nice pattern.
I look forward to contributing to this thread more often, and have enjoyed reading about your babies.

Hi & welcome Krist & Benjamin. I look forward to getting to know you both better. For what it's worth, Anelise is now sleeping beautifully once again, so hopefully your little man decided to skip that stage ;)
Easha - Gentle massage around her belly button can help, as can soaking in a warm bath. Otherwise I don't know of much more you can do to help with consitpation as both the things I have mentioned have helped with my babies. Perhaps try to figure out what it is you're eating that is making her this way also and try to ease up or eliminate it from your diet. I am sure some of the other lovely ladies will come in here and tell you better than I have :)
As the girls on my facebook already know, I started Anelise on solids yesterday. I am so glad I did. She loves it! She has been displaying a want for food for a little while now by getting really angry when we eat and opening her mouth when she sees us eating and poking her tongue out. I tried her on some rice last week (squished in between my fingers) and she ate a few bits, so after much umming & ahhing and fighing with the part of me that wants to follow WHO recommendations, I finally gave in and fed her. She opened her mouth to the spoon once she realised there was food on it, and then she would poke her tongue out for it, and once the food was in her mouth she started to hum, like she was enjoying it! She has been so much happier too. I thought perhaps she was teething because she has been so cranky. I guess she was just hungry.

Lisa - my husband and I have been debating over the past week whether or not to start Emily on solids, she's showing some interest - not quite as much as you described Anelise was showing!! But she's been quite cranky as well which is why I was starting to think it may have to do with teething, but after reading your post I'm definitely going to at least give her a try on solids. BTW, what date was Anelise born? Emily was born on the 16th Sept at 11.05am, I think our girls may have been born on the same day, or maybe one day apart now that I look at your post. :)
Sorry Easha, I don't have any other suggestions for you re constipation, I would have suggested the same as Lisa.

Welcome KristaW - glad to hear things are great with your bub. I also had issues with BF when we began but have not got into the swing of things and we are going well now. In regards to sleep Jaida did regress for only a few nights walking 4 hourly :wall::wall: but she has since returned to 7pm - 5am and then more sleep until 8am. From what I understand around the 19 wk mark they have a huge mental growth spurt. Hopefully the sleep regression wont happen or if it does only for a few days.... I was so run down after having 3 days of little sleep I caught a headcold :(
Ladies thanks for the advice re: poo - Jaida wasn't constipated..... just held on for 5 days and then had poo explosions - twice:doh::doh: all over EVERYTHING.
It is interesting reading about giving your bubs solids... I have been thinking the same myself as Jaida watches me eat with great interest. Also in the bath we give her a little water (out of a cup) and she eagerly grabs the cup herself. I still might hold off a little cause I dont know whether she is actually ready or whether I am just really excited and too eager to give her solids??
I have found Jaida on her tummy in her bed a few mornings this week and she doesn't realise she can relax her head so she gets really agitated. She knows how to roll back but hasn't quite linked together that this can get her off her belly IYKWIM.
Jaida is also sitting with support and rocking - very cool to see new progressions

Angela, Anelise was born on Sept 16 also but at 5.02pm... so yes, our little girls share a birthday :)

Just wondering if anyone has tried a jumperoo for their baby for entertainment. My little one loves standing and I thought it might be a bit of fun for him and something different than just standing on mummy tummy! Has anyone tried them and if so what brand and did your little one like them.
