Not much news here again. Blake is weighing a health 4.86k and 56cm. The past few days he has been going back to his old self and projectile vomits again off EVERY bottle. The midwife told me its not the formula that its probably his tummy to full but every bottle seriously? Doesn’t affect his weight though.

Dory - I am so pleased HB is much more content now - it was such a relief to know there was a reason for Pearl's crying and be able to solve it - you must have felt the same after dealing with a distressed bub for so long - hopefully you can really start to enjoy being a mum (and get some sleep). It took me a while to catch up after we got out of hospital so just sleep as much as you can you will feel so much more human.

Deana - Pearl brings up some of every feed (sometimes it seems like she can't have anything left) but as long as Blake is still gaining weight he is getting what he needs - maybe use bibs (unless you are already?)

Bec - what a dilemma about Isaac's father!!!! by the sounds of things you know his name and surname and hopefully he will reappear (or at least Isaac can track him down at a later date). I reckon it's a great idea to plan a trip - now that our bubbas are out it is nice to have something to look forward to on the horizon. Sounds like he is sleeping for longer stretches for you which is great. Is your mum going to give him the EBM in a bottle? I will be interested to hear how that goes.

Fuzzy - I am pretty sure you can't pass gastro on through BM - you poor thing it is hard enough to take care of a new bubba without having to hug the toilet as well!!
What happened with the passport pic?? We are planning a trip to Fiji or Vanuatu early next year so need to get Pearl's done as well.

Belfie - I got a close baby carrier sling after reading some rave reviews here about them aparently you can feed in it as well but I haven't tried yet in fact I haven't used it much at all as I planned to take Pearl out in the evenings when we walk the dog on the beach but it is just not a good time to be loading her in and out of the car so we are going to wait until she is having longer awake times so we are not disturbing her sleep in the evenings. Sounds like you and A are in the wars!! How did the family portrait go?? Are you getting the eczma under control??

AFM - Mum is here and LOVING having another grandie to cluck over. It's nice to have some comapany during the day and I can pop out in the car if I need to without loading Pearl up etc. I have discovered that breast milk on the head really fixes cardle cap (Pearl gets it on her eyebrows and scalp). Pearl is still going well but I am still battling the thrush (heading back to the dr now!) I am really sick of it now and just want to be able to feed without having to put up with pain for hours afterwards!!!

Bec - can you ask your mutual friends to get him to email you or something? Then I guess if you dont hear from him you will have to get them to pass on the message. Tough situation! Strange he disappeared off facebook too. Do you know where he works? Could you track down contact info for him via that?

Chuckie - Its easiest to take your own passport photos of bubs going by the guidelines on the form. Having said that we have taken about 200 and have not got a suitable one yet. It needs to be a flat white background, no shadows and bubs has to be looking directly at the camera with head straight mouth closed, neutral expression and hands by their sides. Ha ha - you can see why it is impossible! No luck yet but we will keep trying. We fly in a month so need to get our s**t together.

Deana - its not reflux is it? Have you tried feeding him less and does he still do it? Sounds like he is a great weight though

Chuckie - yeah I know his name and surname but we weren't friends on fb, but I was able to find him and send him a private message a couple of times. Now he's not there. Mum was going to give Isaac EBM in a bottle, that was the plan anyway but I forgot I had to go and have Isaac weighed, so after doing that and going to the shop it didn't happen. He doesn't like the dummy I got for him, so I would've loved to see if he'd take to a bottle, when I was feeding him EBM it was by syringe and my finger. I hope your thrush clears up, sounds painful. It must be great having your mum there :)

fuzzy - I think that's what I'll have to do. But I just feel kind of ashamed of the situation, and I'm not really comfortable telling people who aren't close friends but if that's the only way then I'll have to. I'm certain they'll guess the reason I'm trying to contact David. I think he probably got scared by the news (I never got any reply about the news of my pregnancy), and maybe that's why he's disappeared from fb. I know he's part of a professional dance troupe that performs at various places so he wouldn't have work contact details iykwim. If he really has been scared off by the baby news there's no way he'll get back to me anyway. Gggrr sorry for going on about it, but I don't know what to do yet. Wow are those passport photo guidelines a challenge or what! It sounds pretty much impossible! Good luck with it.

Well Isaac was weighed today, he's had a bit of a growth spurt and put on 610 grams in two weeks! And as for me, I'm slowly getting better at typing one handed while he feeds :)

Fuzzy - oh my. I just felt so so sad for you when you said you had gastro ... it's horrible at the best of times... let alone when you're a mum to a newborn. How is Chloe?

Bec - good news about Isaacs weight, but sorry about David. Guess he doesn't want to be found?

Belfie - how are you going with managing Annika's colic? Does she cry a lot? If at what times? Hope you are managing... I know it's very hard when they cry or are unsettled a lot.

Deana - sorry to hear Blake is back to projectile vomitting. My SIL is a Dr and she said just the other day that there is a condition that first born sons get where there is actually something minor wrong with their digestive system which can be very easily fixed by a small op. I am not sure what it is. I will ask her. Maybe you should ask DP to ask his mother whether he was a projectile vomitter, if DP is a first born son. My DH's oldest brother had it and his first born son had it. Distressing but good it's not affecting his weight.

Hello to Kirsten, Catherine, Apes, Wite, Buzzy, Pantha.

AFM - pretty sure I have an infection in my wound. Called the obs today and spoke to him, and I will pick up some antibiotics tomorrow. It's only in one small spot, but it's looking worse today even after my being more vigilant with my betadine wash and saline wash and getting the area into the sunshine and trying to keep it dry. Hannah has had another great day... I think I am so so lucky! Although yet again I had trouble getting to sleep until her 1.30am feed and then I only dozed lightly until 3am. What gives? I am hoping for a better night for me!

And to Connie - how is George going?

Chuckie – Blake had thrush as well. I don’t know if he still has it or not though. The midwife reckons he doesn’t as the tongue isn’t coated in white anymore, but the gums at the back are still white. I hope Pearl’s thrush clears up soon for you both.


Fuzzy – I asked the midwife if it was reflux and she reckons its not as ive been feeding him 150ml bottles but his intake is around 99mls as she worked it out, but even when I do feed him the 150mls, he only drinks around the 100ml anyway. Its so annoying. They also said its very normal for babies around 6-8 weeks to projectile vomit like this, but after 8 weeks its meant to stop. I might have to stick to the 100ml bottles, but I feel like he may still be hungry or when will I know to up the mls in the bottle later on?


Dory – I will differently ask about that. Just wish a midwife could help me instead of saying “its just the formula” grrrr. With Hannah sleeping at night, do you put her in her bassinet before she falls asleep or do you nurse her until she is asleep? The reason im asking is cause Blake was the same a couple of weeks ago, so I have taught him to put himself to sleep in his bassinet. He use to cry when I put him in there, but every 5 mins without taking him out of his bassinet, I would gently rub or tap his back and he would go to sleep. Also maybe attend an “early days session” in your area for babies and sleeping habits. Im still going to attend one next Thursday just to help me with his sleeping during the day, but its worth a shot with Hannah and other mothers give great advise as well.

Deana- With Blake throwing up after every bottle-Have you tried giving him HALF his bottle then stopping him, burping him then giving him the remainder of his bottle after a burp? I find that really helps keep the vomits down?!?

Bec- I'm not exactly sure what else you can do but pass on Isaacs birth to his dad through the grapevine..or perhaps get a mutual friend to pass on his email details or something so you can tell him that way? Surely someone will know why he dissapeared off Facebook! How gorgeous cring his first tear naawwww!!

Fuzzy- you poor thing having Gastro, i REALLY REALLY hope it passes for you soon, sending you truckloads of healthy mojo!

Dory- Hope the antibiotics heal up the infection very soon for you and I hope it doesn't hurt at all?

Not much news no my end, Harlows now a Formula fed baby, It upsets me that I couldn't feed her long enough and it is my own fault for giving up so easily..but at the end of the day she is getting fed & that is the main thing..I haven't told my MCHN, she is a massive boob nazi & I just don't want to deal with it since she pushed the "there is no excuse for not breastfeeding if your supply is right in" thing on me last time. not sure how I can tell her I just gave up without being judged and me leaving in tears..wondering if I should just continue the "yes she is BF" lie or just tell her I just gave up because Formula was too easy an option and alot less frustration...:(

Bec - not sure about FB. Can he disappear from view from you but still exist on there for others to see? Not sure how that works exactly but if you want me to search for him for you just PM his full name.

Deana - Good luck with Blake. Perhaps, like Wite says, try breaking up the bottle. I need to burp Chloe halfway through otherwise she throws up too

Thankyou Fuzzy, That HAS made me feel alot better about it, sometimes i feel they are so pushy that it is "their" choice not our own with babies upbringings..I never had problems with Jetts MCHN but this one I have seen for Harlow-seen her once and decided I DO not like her (especially since she judged me because I don't drive and cannot believe a mother in this day and age doesn't drive and relies on public transport...!). Unfortunatly she is the only one in my area so I cannot change without a longer drive to the next one!

so much I wanna say but haven't had time. Got my sleepywrap this morning in the post and OMG it is AWESOME! Thanks heaps for telling us about it Wite. Bec, I reckon you'll love yours. and I'm an idiot, should have realised to order from o/s duh. I was just soon impatient. bummer re david too.

Fuzzy - oh gastro bites you poor thing :hug: so glad you're feelig better.

Somone asked why I expressed for Xander - long story short - flat nipples, never attached without nipple shields, ff top-ups from day one due to BSL's, BF'ing went down hill as he was a mouth-breather. Couldn't get my supply up enough to exclusively feed, hard work to BF, express & comp feed (Dory - you know this :hug:). Once his allergies got worse & worse he would unattached a gazillion times a feed & got very frustrated.... milk everywhere & boy still hungry after 40 mins on boob! So went to EE cos I"m a pig-headed mule... THEN got my supply up enough, so clearly he wasn't feeding well. Was a million times better. Was told that babies don't mouth breath - mine did. Also foudn that in the short-term EE was actually so much less work than trying to BF, express & comp feed. It was the right decision for us given he wouldn't have fed well (allergies weren't picked up till 8mths). But in hindsight it is sooo much more work which is why I was hell-bent on BF'ing this time. Plus I think once you're comp feeding you are at more risk of nipple confusion & it's s'thing to be really careful/vigilant about.

Dory - best time to express is either after feeds in the morning, if HB is happy with one side, then express the other, or try to fit an "extra" feed in where you express. Again, morning is usually the best time to do this - partly cos of bubs tend to feed more spaced out & also you'll have more. I was expressing twice a day (both sides) after feeds initially cos nipple shields can cause you to be at higher risk of mastitis/supply issues (so they say, doesn't seem to cause me trouble)... and I would just express as soon as I had re-settled her. If you can hire a double pump you will get quite a bit more (cos you take advantage of the let-down on both sides simultaneously) and you can also rig up or buy a hands free expressing bra. I know some girls on here have done a DYI version, if you look on Nursing Angel site they have it for sale, easy expressions. How are you finding it tryign to express at present? It makes it pretty busy I know. Sorry to hear you have an infection too :hug:. Thanks for asking re A, I have my days where i feel super resilient & strong and think I can do this... and other days it's just like arrrrgh, i don't get 5 mins to do antyhing. I think the wrap will help me big time, and I think i've also accept that she's a baby that just needs to be upright a lot, and to adjust to that. My LC said I should keep her upright for 20-30 mins after each feed, plus try to feed one side & express the other... so it's really time consuming and i'm so mindful of not neglecting Xander... and then there's that crazy housework/cooking/washing stuff ha! Ah but then she smiles and it's all worthwhile!

Deanna - if you're wondering about reflux, it's not just how much they spit-up... it's also if their back arching & grizzling either during feed (especially latter half of feed I find) and arcing up crying an hour or so after feeding, or whenever lying flat. Another symptom is snuffliness & hoarse voice (A has this). She was also spitting up heaps, during the feed, after the feed, in her bassinet - but mostly small spitups, and her weight gain is still excellent because she's not yet put off feedig, but was starting to get more & more grizzly/fussy. I also have to have a bib on her always. She draws her legs up too, and just grizzle grizzle grizzle even in her sleep - I had to move her out of our room cos she's got so noisy :(. And honestly, compared to my DS (which doesn't help anyone else) she just SEEMED in pain. Inconsolable crying, falls asleep at drop of the hat but can't STAY asleep cos she's not comfortable. Do you think this fits Blake? Oh and apparenty some reflux babies are better on smaller feeds more often too...

We started meds fri night and yesterday she was a different baby, smiling at me every change! Still quite unsettled at times, but notable difference. Plus we're still doing a heap of things differently which is helping too, basically all the upright stuff.

Yaaay I thought she was about to wake all the way thru this post but she hastn'. Woo hoo, yay for the sleepywrap.

dory - oh no I hope your wound is ok and that the antibiotics clear it up quickly. And here's hoping you have a better nights sleep tonight, and hoping I do too, I feel like my eyes are going to fall out from tiredness sometimes when I can't have a nanna nap in the day time.

Deanna - I hope Blakes feeding issues improve soon :hug:

Isaac smiled for real (not wind) for the first time today!! I was holding him while lined up to get my drivers license renewed when he did it, he must've sensed how bored I was and decided then to give me some huge smiles.. soo cute.

Belfie- congratulations on persevering with BFing! You had such a tough time last time around. Have you tried sleeping A on her belly? I know everything says not to, but I find
Lottie settles a lot quicker/easier on her belly. I just go in and flip her over once she's fully asleep. Baby smiles make everything worthwhile don't they? :-D

Bec - lol @ typing with one hand. It definitely becomes an art. How bout moving the mouse with your left hand?
That's a wonderful weight gain! Have you had a middie or a Child Health Nurse call you a good cow yet? Your eyes kinda pop when they do, and it takes a bit to wrap your
head around the fact that they're not insulting you, they're actually complimenting you.
I hope you manage to work something out with David (if you ever get a hold of him).

wite - Don't beat yourself up. You are doing what's best for Harlow. A happy Mummy and a happy baby are more important than forcing yourself to breastfeed.
Quite honestly, I admire your decision to FF. To me, it seems a LOT more work than BFing!
How's Jett adjusting to having a little sister? Any jealous behaviours?

Deana - I agree with whoever it was that suggested burping Blake half way through his bottle. I do this with Lottie (I give her a bottle of EBM overnight rather than BFing).
She settles so much quicker and doesn't bring up as much. I've found a way to check if Lottie is still hungry is to gently touch her cheek.
If she turns towards it, I keep feeding her, otherwise I'd say she's done. Maybe give that a go with Blake.

Chuckie - quick question, what does cradle cap look like? is it dandruff-y? I think Lottie might be getting a little of it, but I'm not entirely sure if that's what it is. How's Pearl going?
isn't it lovely having your Mum over?! :-D It means someone can keep an eye on her while you get in a quick nap, or do some quick housework.

dory - oh hun, you must be so uncomfortable with an infected wound. Is it affecting your ability to pick up Hannah-bear? Glad to hear that she's been having some good days!
With expressing, I usually express after one of her morning feeds. I start on the one she's just finished on to make sure it's fully drained (only get a little from that).
Then I move onto the other side. I usually get about 80mL doing that (which is perfect for her overnight feed!) Good luck. It's pretty tiring but rewarding when you see the
bottle filling up.

Apes, Buzzie , kirsten - how are you girls going? Everything ok with your bubs?

AFM - had my 6 week check-up on Monday. I'm still bleeding so the Dr has put me on a course of anti-biotics in the hopes that clears it up. If it hasn't stopped by the time I go back for Lottie's 2-month shots we'll look at a D&C. Does anyone know much about them? I'm kinda afraid to google it because I don't want to scare myself! The Dr was pretty useless in regards to DH's depression. We went in and said "we think DH is depressed, possibly PND"... the Dr referred us to the beyondblue website and told us to assess him against their criteria. So we did, we also checked out PANDA.org.au. According to those sites he possibly might have it.
Lottie is going well. I'm giving her a bottle of EBM for her 2/3am feed. She settles so much faster than when it was a BF! Instead of being up for an hour plus, she's back down and asleep within 45mins! We've also found she hates lying flat on her back. Be it in bed or in the pram or even the change table! With bed, I've started letting her fall asleep on her belly then flipping her over once she's asleep - she settles within 10min on her belly, it takes half an hour on her back. In the pram, we just sit the back up and put a rolled up bit of lambs wool under her butt to stop her sliding down. With the change table... we just tough it out, not much else we can do. If both of us are home, one will change her while the other distracts her with a rattle. I still can't believe my baby girl is 6 weeks old tomorrow! I think she might have some teeth bothering her too. She's been really drooly and grizzly the past few days and when I look in her mouth she's got a couple of little nubs on her lower gums. I'm not certain though. Think I'll just keep an eye on them and ask the Dr at her 2-month appointment. Also, she's outgrown her co-sleeper! Tonight will be the first night in her own room, in her cot... I'm so nervous lol Very paranoid about not hearing her over the monitor or her stopping breathing or something. Guess it's just Mummy-nerves.

I was pretty clumsy/awkward the first time, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of at all (I thought it would be worse tbh) and I got the dark green one too :dance:

Wite - what colour did you get?

Hiya - just quickly from me ... sometimes I wonder if Hannah is refluxy - back arching, grizzle towards the end of feeds, wrenching away from the nipple, leg pumping, and less now but still sometimes easy to fall asleep but won't stay asleep. Hmmm..

Deana - it varies with how I settle Hannah. Most of the time I try for something like you do with Blake, but sometimes, it's in my arms ( if the other way hasn't worked after about 15 - 20 mins and or she is arching up) and less often now, on the breast.

Pantha - loving the idea of a quick turn around on those feeds in the nights...and teething... arghh

Belfie - thanks for the info... I was sending myself a little batty with trying to express... so have settled on at least twice a day. Today was only once as I had visitors and couldn't be naffed doing the feeding, comp feed and pull out to breast pump whilst they were here. It is hard work, doing the three - but I want to try and make sure Hannah is being fed enough plus keep up my supply so as to give this breast feeding thing a shot for a bit longer. I find the whole bottle routine is a pain - the cleaning and sterilising and waiting for the right temperature to feed....

Wite - it is your choice - you and Harlow have to be happy. She will be happy with being fed, so it has to work for you. But I know how you feel... at times I still feel guilty when the die hards pass judgement on my comp feeding.... but Hannah needed it, she just wasn't gaining enough weight and had lost weight since coming out of hossy.

Thanks for asking - I did get some more sleep last night and I wasn't madly trying to force myself to go back to sleep. Yay. The infection does hurt at the site of it, but not so much I can't lift Hannah, but it is starting to twinge. A little hole has also developed in the wound, where it seems to be opening up at the infection site. I get my antibiotics tomorrow, so hopefully will help clear it up quick smart.

Don't you just love baby smiles and the way their eyes get all crinkley in the corners? and their gurgles? As much as the sleep disruption is tough, I don't want her to grow up as I just love spending my time looking at her and this stage is just so precious. One thing about bottle feeding is you get to gaze into each others eyes, and you don't get that on the breast.

Oh I looked at the sleepy wrap and they look good...

Belfie I am SO glad you like the sleepywrap-It is so comfy isn't it!!! Did Annika fall asleep in it right away? Harlow did! It is nice being "hands free" to do things aswell! I just got a black wrap, I figure if David wanted to wear it he would be happier with a black one and I also wear alot of black and am not a big "colour" person so black suits me better..I really wanted a grey one but I couldn't find any in stock!!!

Bec- Happy one month to Isaac, How adorable he smiled for you :) Withthe sleepy wrap it IS hard to put onthe first time, It took me a few goes to get it to sit right but now it is SO easy to put on-You will be amazed by how long the material is for it!! There is a youtube tutorial and one on ebay aswell that shows you a way of wrapping it which I found easier than they say in their instruction booklet, I can give you the link if you like :)

Pantha- Thankyou, I just feel with FF I have taken the "Easy" option because David can now feed her & she isn't latched to me 24/7, I feel a bit bad about it because I had every intention for BFing for longer.. Jett has adjusted really well to having a sister, thankyou for asking! I have noticed he is trying to get our attention more by playing up a little but mostly he is really great, wanting to hold her & feed her and asking us 1000 questions about her..He strokes her hair and says "Hello beautiful" to her in this really cute little voice..so far-so good!!

Harlow has started smiling and coo-ing at us..It is SO ridiculously cute!! She is also sleeping on her side like Jett did as a baby too. It is amazing how different they look but how alike they can be..I cannot believe she will be a month old tomorrow, seriously-How do I stop her from growing up? I get a bit upset that she is getting bigger each day because I know she will be my last baby (I only plan on two kidlets)..!!

Hey, still here lurking. Had my 2nd appointment today and am feeling much more positive about things. We are dealing with the grief over the miscarriages next week which should be a hoot!

Anyway, nursing a cranky bub so must go and sort him out. Will update more when I have 2 hands!

hi everyone, wow i missed 3 pages worth of stuff, just took my an hour to read it all going back and forth with the kids, finally there both asleep and i might go for a sleep too. I cant remember everything i was going to say but here goes, but seems everyone is all at similar stages... isabella is smiling too which is just gorgeous, and she put on 815g at her 4 week check.

Pantha - i am still bleeding too, ive had a D&C but for my PCOS yrs ago.. nothing to be scared about at all.just a tad crampy after. I have my 6 week check on wednesday with the GP and thursday with the ob, and if im still bleeding hell prob put me on antibiotics too cos he did with DS.
Cradle cap looks like little flakes rather dandruff dry skin - if that makes sense lol its more yellow looking and u can easily lift each bit off with the flick of your nail.. but it is horrible cos you just want to pick at it so bad lol well at least i do. DS STILL has some, so every bubs is different in length of it staying. ive even heard some ppl have it into adulthood.. :(

wite - i agree about the formula, your choice, i would just tell the midwife with confidence in your voice that thats the way it is and your fine with that. if you sound ashamed of it, your opening yourself to the lovely midwife opinions..
They do grow so quick too hey. I told DP im not done having kids yet, he seemed a little surprised but at least hes been told to be prepared for when i start getting maternal again LOL It must feel strange to know you arent going to have anymore. I guess the end of a chapter, but we cant keep having babies forever i guess LOL

Deana- that little man of yours is really giving you a good run with things hey.. lol poor little chook, reflux is horrible. hope he finds some relief soon. :)

Bec - i really feel for you with Issacs dad. I endlessly kept thinking to myself what am i going to tell Ash about his dad. (never did i think he would be apart of his life) and its very hard! I do hope you catch him down. cos as soon as he knows, he has to live the rest of his life knowing he has a son out there and he is very lucky you are giving him the opportunity to have some part in issacs life. If he does nothing about it, at least you can be reassured you did the right thing telling him about it and trying on your behalf.

Fuzzy - u poor thing having gastro! and so brave still going out! glad its cleared! i remember having it pregnant and that was horrid, cant imagine looking after a new born at the same time.
I dont think they can get it thru breastmilk, as someone said, they get the antibodies in breastmilk.

Hi everyone else. All is really good here. isabella is such a good baby i cant complain. nights vary, but generally she has a few good hours sleep, but from about 3-4 she can have me up every hour. on a good night ive only got up 2-3 times - still have to change her nappy tho, now its started leaking!! might try aldi nappies soon see if its the size thats the issue.. tho she prob still feeds quite a bit!
Day time she can be pretty unsettled, usually in the morning she just wants to be held everywhere but from midday i usually get her to have some pretty good sleeps.

Ive been looking at lots of houses and started to find some really nice 3 bedroom places near DPs end of the woods (hes good half hour away) thats close enough to my price range so im starting to get more excited about moving out.. and seriously cant wait to have my own place!! Mums dogs are driving me INSANE!! everything up this end is all tiny 2 bedroom units for the same price so it seems silly to stay here when i really dont have anything out here for me.... mum still wants me to stay close tho.. so funny.. she has a bad case of cant live with them cant live without them syndrome.

Both kiddies are still asleep so i better go sleep too whilst i can.. Ds will wake up very grumpy and hungry and being its 5pm and i should wake him up cos itll be a VERY late night.. i just LOVE this quiet!

Been a while Buzzie! ha ha. no we are just a chatty bunch really. Isabella sounds like a doll. And when you talk of her nighttime patterns I breathe a sigh of relief as Chloe is the same. I get anxious when I read of others with bubs that sleep more than 5-6 hours at a time overnight as I am so bloody JEALOUS! ha ha. Good luck house hunting!

Kirsten - glad you are feeling better and I cant imagine how hard it would have been going through the miscarraiges. Fill us in more on Samuel when you get a chance :)

Last night Chloe cried so heavily and for so long that I thought at one point she had stopped breathing. It was like a silent cry and it was HORRIBLE. She ended up hyperventilating and then completely conking out. She was simply rediculously overtired. Up from 2:30 pm until i eventually got her down at 9pm. Needless to say I learnt a hell of a lot of lessons about tired bubs yesterday. ha ha

Kirsten - GL - it's pretty damn hard - getting on with things in the aftermath of grief and bereavemnent. Sometimes it really hits me when I look at Hannah that there are 4 angels of ours that we will never have the opportunity to parent, but at least we got to hold and meet 3 of them. It's so unfair really, but what is past can't be changed. I am so happy that I do have this opportunity with Hannah - I never thought it would actually happen. Anyway, I guess I am saying, I have some understanding of what you might be going through. Big hugs for Sam and you.

Buzzy - it has been a while. Hope you're ok - GL with moving house. I am so not done with having kids either..... but haven't yet been that direct with DH....

Pantha - try not to be too scared - if you need a D&C to protect your health than that's ok. They use a light anaesthetic so it doesn't usually knock you around too much.

Here are a couple of questions for everyone - has anyone DTD yet? Hmm I have forgotten the other question... doh. Started my antibiotics today - have to take every 6 hours and 30 mins before food! That is going to drive me batty - just about to look up about the antibiotics to get some more info. What is it with not getting the info sheets with prescriptions anymore?

dory... yes to DTD. We were going crazy waiting and got the all clear from the Dr at my check-up. Was a little bit painful, but once things... readjusted... it was all good lol

Dory - I was gonna ask the same thing lol but my circumstance is a little different with the 3rd degree tearing. I have my 6week check next Wednesday and will get the ok or not but as much as I feel sometimes I would like too again especially DP - I'm REALLY nervous about it!

No to DTD here yet..
I remember with DS I had a big episiotimy so alot of stitches and DTD for the first couple of times was rather uncomfortable and frustrating with all the "going slow, ease it in" (LOL!)..!

Harlow is a month old today!! She is currently having her big morning snooze and I really should be using this time to clean the house but meh..!

Wite - how soon did u dtd after the cut?

No to DTD here yet although am thinking I am about ready now.

None here either - wanted to wait to my check up, given the caesarean and now the infection and all. We had a massive DTD drought during the pregnancy ( 6 1/2 months) and when we DTD it was as Wite said - very cautious and slow. No hanging from the chandeliers in our house for a while, that's for sure.

Wite - Happy 1 month to Harlow... forget the housework, chatting to friends is way more important.

I am visiting my Mum tomorrow - about 2 hours drive. Am a bit apprehensive but I know things will be ok with the drive and Hannah. Just need to go after a feed. It's the first time I have been to visit her since March this year ( as during the preg I couldn't really go anywhere)... I am excited to be out and about!

The other good news is Hannah has put on weight and is right where she should be and is otherwise healthy according to the paed, we had an appointment today. Have to keep up with the motilium for my supply and the comp feeds but she is gradually having less of the comp feed.

Also I made a pizza dough today and must have done something right - it more than tripled in size! It's massive. It grew so much it was pushing out of the top of the very large bowl I had it proving in. Can't wait to eat it.

Buzzie- From memory I think we DTD at about 8 weeks after having Jett...It was really uncomfortable at first because (I'm sorry I don't know how to word this any other way) I felt "tight". Only the first couple of times DTD after it was a slow process at the beginning but after a few times things felt completly back to normal...And with Jett I had a pretty big episiotimy basically from front to back.

Dory- I agree, chatting to friends definatly is more important than cleaning! I didn't bother, I tidied what i could, had friends over for dinner last night and said "Scuse the mess, i just couldn't be bothered cleaning it for you"..haha pretty direct but they didn't care & I for a change didn't either..the place was tidy enough! Hope you had a really lovely day out visiting your Mum today & the drive went well..
That is SO SO exciting about the pizza dough getting a fantastic rise- Only I (A massive foody!) could get as excited as something like that!! I love a good risen dough that you can poke your fingers in and watch it completly deflate before rolling it!!! Yummo-Enjoy!

Re DTD, we haven't yet but DH raised the topic... and my first thought was oh I'm sure we can do that for some reason or other :rofl: how sad is that! Like Dory, we had a bit of time out during the PG for many reasons, so I guess we'd better get back to it at some stage (gee could I sound less interested? mwahaha).

Fuzzy - it's so horrible when they cry like that isn't it. Such a steep learning curve these babies... even the second time round!

AFM well it's all chaos here. Tonight for the third time ever I got a silent migraine - basically vision disturbance & lots of pins & needles. Had it at the start of the PG and ended up in ED cos I don't usually have migraines (had once before 15 years ago) and they thought it was cos of the PG or a fall I'd had. So I have no idea what set me off but of course it was right at dinnertime, A was screaming, X was trying to eat dinner, DH was trying to organise everything and I couldn't see properly! I've also got a head cold, so i have a headache but not a migraine headache IYKWIM (thank goodness) but geez I'm still feeling lousy. Plus A has been on & off inconsolable and was SCREAMING her head off poor little darling. I don't know whether it's colic or the reflux meds not quite enough... i still can't believe how different she is to my DS. Everythign I did with him so doesn't work for her. And just when I think we have everything under control & we've worked out how to do everything then it seems to fall apart again. Plus she was spewing heaps on Fri... seriously had all 3 of us covered in spew on fri morning & I think all up 5 changes of clothes in an hour (some mine, some hers, and even DS's top!), lordy no wonder I have so much washign to do. My sleepywrap really needs a wash but I'm using it so much... might need a second one bwahaha. I'm finding I can't nap at all in the daytime just cos she's so unsettled. I think I reached the delirious stage on thurs night, just too many days in a row with not enuff sleep. Then Thurs & Fri night were a bit better luckily before i went completely bonkers.

Deana - saw on FB that poor little Blake has reflux I'm so sorry to hear it :hug: I really hope the mylanta helps a bit. And if you do end up trying zantac, if that doesn't work, losec is another option too. I hope you're getting some relief for both of you - reflux is just such a PITA! I don't know why my GP didn't put A on mylanta first, he just went straight to Losec - whatever works I guess.

Hi to everyoen I missed.

Damn I just wrote a big post and lost it.

Was hoping you guys had some advice regarding self-settling. Are they too young to start teaching this too now? Literature is contradictory on whether they are able to learn the skill before 3 months old.

Anyway - our typical day goes - feed, change, feed/play then into bed (swaddled). I try to put her down drowsy. Most of the time she wakes up a little more and I try patting her and making soothing noises but she often will progress to the crying stage. Then what do I do? Leave her to cry? I dont like this thought. If I leave her to cry out does she just think that we have deserted her?? (yikes). OR do I pick her up again for a while and try again? I have been doing the latter but it often takes about 4 or 5 goes (tiring!!) if it works at all. Sometimes it takes so long she gets hungry again so I have to feed her! I think maybe 1 try in 15 or so might work but thats it.

thoughts? advice? Is this normal??

Belfie - i hear you on not sounding interested. Poor DP is really hanging for it but my nerves that thinks its gonna hurt is happy to make me wait.

Fuzzy - i have heard leaving them to cry at this age is not a good idea as they are building trust with you, plus they cry for a genuine reason, not just to get up and play. Im trying a bit of self settling with Bella but only putting her down drowsy and seeing if she can get to sleep... she has been forced to a couple times the last couple nights cos iam having issues with DS atm, so if they both cry... i only have hands for one.. and he screams louder so hell just keep waking her if i can settle him!
I dont know what to advise..bella has started to take longer to get to sleep, and i just do all the rocking and bouncing and patting till she zonks and put her to bed. I dont let her cry for long at all if she wakes during the night too.. she resettles pretty quick after.

Isabella went up a size in nappies yesterday... highly recommend Aldi!! there great, helps both kids are on them now. and shes in 000... growing so fast!

I second the Aldi nappies..that is what DS is in and I bought a couple of packs for Harlow before she was born, she finally fits into them now and they sit better around her legs than the Huggies did-Plus at like 4.99 a packet now for 26 of them-I'm certainly sticking to them!!

Buzzie - thanks, and that's what is worrying me - what to tell Isaac when he's older. I'd feel awful if I gave up trying to tell David about him, and have to tell Isaac that his father may not know he even exists. Makes me feel sick thinking about that. How is the house hunting going? Do you think you'll be moving very soon?

dory - are you still on antibiotics? They sound like the ones I had.. They sounded impossible when the dr explained how to take them: one every six hours, half an hour before food or two hours after food but right after I breastfeed! I had to write everything down for a few days to keep track! Oh and your pizza dough sounds delicious, I usually cheat and use a flat bread instead

Belfie - oh no I hope your migraine didn't last long. How awful.

fuzzy - Buzzie is right about the crying it out, at this age they need to know that their basic needs are being met, and the only way for them to tell us about them is by crying, and they develop trust by being responded to quickly. I keep remembering what my dad told me when he visited while I was pregnant, (it was the only piece of advice that he though was important enough to share) it was always remember little babies cry for a reason, and sometimes that just may be that they need to be near you. Sometimes the only way Isaac settles is if I hold him and gently bounce on the fitball or rock him, then when he's just about asleep I put him down in his pram bassinet (I don't have a cot). I agree with you it is a scary thought that bub might feel deserted. I read in a few places (one might have been in a BB article about sleep, I can't remember) that young babies haven't developed the 'concept' that something they can't see still exists somewhere else, so if you are not there, they don't have the understanding that you are coming back. That comes later, I'm not sure when but I think its one of the wonder weeks.

Buzzie - I know, they are growing sooo fast! Isaac is now in 000 clothes as he is so long. Everyonev comments (after saying wow look at his hair) about how 'huge' or long he is for his age. And omg his feet have literally doubled in size since he was born. Someone said to me that he'll be as tall as me by the time he is 5!

We had our best night last night! Isaac slept until 2 am, but had 3 small feeds (he kept falling asleep too quickly) so we were up until 3:45 feeding, but then didn't wake up until 6:45. Usually we are up 2 or 3 times in the night, so just once was fantastic. He has had lots of wind/bellyaches I think though, some vomiting a few times a day and crying while squirming and looking a bit pained. Is there something I can do about that?

fuzzy - just reading my wonder weeks info, and its week 19 when babies are "beginning to understand object permanence, that objects continue to exist even though we can't see them", so it's a while yet before our bubs realise that when we go away from them we are not gone forever.


edit: Do you guys know about any problems with only children? I don't think I know any only children, and I'm just wondering if they have any social problems or find it hard to relate to other kids? I'm pretty certain Isaac won't have any brothers or sisters, and just a bit concerned this might affect his social skills. I'm planning to go to play groups, and have him going to swimming lessons, and other things that he might like (either team sports or dancing/gymnastics, or whatever he shows an interest in.. anything to get him mixing with other kids) I know that's not the same as having other children constantly there to learn sharing and socialising though, so just wondering what your thoughts are..

Wite - I have Isabella in the next size up with is infants for $15.99 same as the toddler for DS but I think still worth it.

Bec - I've been looking a places but have to move in Jan, so it's too early to apply for them. I don't have the bond saved up yet otherwise I would be applying now just incase it takes a while to get approved.
Mum wants to be out by Jan 16th when the next rent is due, but I doubt that will happen! I'm going to tassie on Jan 26th and really didn't want to worry about money as I don't get holidays often at all so I know it'll come from
Money that could go to a house, but technically we are breaking the lease here anyway and 'should' be staying here till July!

Re. Only kids - I don't think there is issues with social skills if u keep then busy like u said u would like to do. I knew a few only kids and there only issue is sometimes being sad they don't have brothers or sisters but they can definatly be jut as happy as other kids.
I'm doing swimming lessons next yr with ash cos I know he badly needs to be around other kids. Espeically being in childcare when I was working to now just stuck with me lol

Bec- Hope your wrap arrives by the end of the week! Well i can't talk for "all" only children but Jett was an only child for 3 years & he had really great social skills.. In his last year he had very little social interaction with other kids due to my health, we had to stop going to mums group but when we would catch up with them on the odd occasion he was actually MORE socialable then some of the kids who went weekly! If your planning on putting Isaac into groups as he gets older, playgroup etc I honestly think he will be fine and not have any problems- sounds like he will be pretty well socialised in his future anyway and going to school etc is still constant learning, he will make friends and have sleepovers etc. Thats just my opinion anyway.. :)



Buzzie- Harlows only just fitting into the newborn size but I know she will go up a size in them pretty quickly-This girly stacks on the weight LOL! DS is still in nappies (Don't get me started on that issue that doe smy head in!) and they are about 17.99- such a great orice. I noticed they sell nappy bags aswell now & we also use their wipes!

Thanks Buzzie and Bec for advice. I do hate to leave her crying! Although I can handle it much better than DH can. He takes it so personally!

Bec - gorgeous photos on FB! He is adorable. My DH is an only child - and well I married him so he is not that bad! LOL. If anything negative I would say that perhaps it has made him a less tolerant and forgiving person. That is, people that annoy him he does not have the time of day for and if someone wrongs him he will never forget it. He was raised around adults and as such he grew up quickly and is extremely smart (up a year at school etc). He is also extremely close to his parents. If you can socialise Isaac with other kids the same age as much as possible, e.g. mothers group, day care etc then I think that would be fantastic.

Chloe is in a few 00's now! She is very long -58cm. Oftens its because her legs are too long for the leg bits where her feet are enclosed.

Have been slack with posting and this is going to be a bit of a me post - sorry!!

The breastfeeding saga contines here - not sure when I last posted but have been battling thrush for weeks now and last week I was feeding Pearl in the middle of the night when she vomitted up heaps of blood which was pretty freaky to see. I couldn't work out where it cam from as although my nipple was cracked there was no blood coming out of it. Anyway that news spurred the child nurse into action and she organised for this really experienced LC to ring me that night when I was diagnosed with this rare condition called nipple vasospasm. So there is now doubt about whether I ever had thrush to begin with!! I have been on the medication since Friday (it gives me headaches) and I am still having the breast pain although I think it is getting slightly better (hard to say). So all in all it has been a bit of a nightmare which I hope will end soon!

Gotta go - DH is away for work and I have a headache and crying baby to see to - she had her 2 month immunisations today and I think she is feeling a bit poorly - poor little thing!
