wow ive missed so much lol.
My cousin has a only child, and it doesnt effect social skills at all. Bec you will be great and im sure Isaac will be a great boy.
Blake has poor reflux so im giving him milanta which seems to be working yay. Also he may have bad wind, does anyone know of any good Techniques that i can use before relating to infocol?
-
Buzzie - that's great you've got some time to organise the move. And you must be so excited for the Tassie trip! It's a beautiful place, and how great would it be to get away for a while! :D
fuzzy - wow 00's! Isaac is growing so quickly too, but luckily he's the same length as last week, 54.5cm, which is kind of good in a way, I want to be able to use all the 000 stuff I have! But he did put on 450g in a week, so he might outgrow them sooner than I think. Your DH sounds like he had a great upbringing, and fantastic he's close to his parents (nothing worse than the opposite, both my sisters have no contact with my dad over silly reasons, its very sad) and the tolerance thing is probably common with non-only children but I can see how it could be an only child thing.
Chuckie - that must have been awful to see Pearl vomit up blood! Will having that condition affect your ability to breastfeed? I hope it all improves very soon
Deana - I was wondering where you got to! Sorry I don't know much about helping wind, I'm hopeless at burping Isaac. Mum manages to burp him for me so easily though, all she does is hold him upright on her lap with his chin over her hand and he burps. Doesn't work when I try it though. When he's been crying because of wind it settles him when I lay him on my lap on his belly, so I suppose try to put him into different positions?
Thanks everyone for the only child advice, I probably don't have anything to worry about. I'm going to make sure we do lots of things with other kids Isaac's age. The mothers group starts here in a couple of weeks so that's a start :) I don't want to disadvantage him in any way by him not having any brothers or sisters. Not that I wouldn't want another one, I'm just being realistic that it's most likely not going to happen.
Oh and I got my sleepywrap! Those things are magic, Isaac is asleep within a couple of minutes, and stays asleep while I get on with whatever I want to do! Seriously a great investment if your bub is having trouble settling :D
-
Hiya all - well quickly - the weekend trip to my mum was a debacle - but we had to start somewhere.
Fuzzy - I agree - too young to be left crying... but having said that if they are crying endlessly, it is ok to leave them for a little bit whilst you get your sanity back..... I try self settling sometimes, and it works and others, well most of the time, Hannah is like Chloe... she wakes up when I put her down, starts to whimper and grizzle and usually builds up to a full on cry/scream. The only way to soothe her is to pick her up. It's hard and frustrating at times, but makes the times when she does go down easily much more appreciated.
Chuckie - oh dear. I was wondering if I had thrush and was trying to remember who was suffering with the pain.... I hope the meds help.
Wite - you foodie you. The pizza turned out great too.
Bec - I am in essence an only child as my only sibling is 13 years older. What does it mean? It means I got a lot more parental attention ( both love and discipline - afterall can't blame anyone else or hide amongst siblings, but at the same time don't have to share the good attention!). I am not sure as a youngster whether I had a lot of contact with other kids - I did go to kindy so what, that's age 4 or something back then. I do know as an older child, once at school, I had lots of friends and contact with other kids but I also liked adult company. I have noticed that about a friend's child who is an only child - they relate very well to adults. Personally I miss the opportunity to be close to a sibling and have that relationship, but that;s only something I miss as a adult. I never gave it a thought as a kid. I had a great childhood. You're thinking about it already so it will be good for Isaac. Love the new photo too.
Deana - sorry Blake has reflux. That medication that Belfie says Locet (?) I have heard works an absolute treat... hmm - about windy pains? I try all of the following several times in any one windy pains session - gentle belly rubs in clockwise direction, laying on side and rubbing back, bouncing, laying across my forearm face down, bicycle legs ( sometimes it helps the fartses come out), bath, cool washer on the face to assist calming down if crying and gently running my hands down the head and face, again to help calm, so and sometimes a little session on the bouncer where Hannah can kick her own legs. I am sure she could power a small town by the energy and ferocity in her leg pumping sometimes, oh and over the shoulder for burps, or sitting up, leaning forward into my hands with the little song.... "any burpies in there, burpies, burpies burpies etc in there? ( a stupid ditty I made up) Or if the crying persists and I can't cope? A walk to get out of the house. The crying continues but sometimes I pop the pram up to raise H head, the movement and raising the head helps. Oh sometimes if I nurse her on my chest I make sure I support her feet so they are raised up near her body, Like a little froggy. A stupid little ditty I made up. It doesn't always work and sometimes it's a matter of just trying everything and eventually something works or the wind just shifts of its own accord.
Buzzy - sounds like something nice to do with Ash. And you only have one pair of hands and arms - it must be tough when they both go off. You are doing a great job!
Hannah is now 5.2kg and 7 weeks today. She is in 00's mostly, but some 000. She is the same size as my friends 13 weeker. The paed is really happy with her now - phew! Got to go give her some EMB as a comp feed and then try to get her to sleep. We've had a really tough four days - the nights have been fab - but the days - wow, hard yards. Today is better so far, which is nice. My niece always raved about Aldi nappies too.
Hello to Apes, Kirsten, Catherine, and Connie. I think that's everyone? Baby gurgles and smiles to us all. Oh yeah still no photo of Hannah Bear - maybe soon if today is a good day
-
thanks dory, that makes me feel better about it :) It sounds like you had a great upbringing, and relating well with adults seems to be a common thing with only kids, and that can only be a good thing! yes we do need a pic of Hannah Bear! It sounds like she's doing really well with all that growing, well done :D
I forgot to ask before, Isaac has a dark brown line going downwards from his bellybutton, like a linea nigra in pregnant women I think. Do all babies get that? How long does it stay there for?
-
Bec - not sure about the line.... but given that bubs get so many other hormonal side effects - pimples, swollen breasts and genitals... mood swings (LOL) ... I would reckon it's just part of being a new born and being BF'ed. If you're worried maybe call the parentline service in SA?
I finally got a pic up! It is when Hannah was in hospital, but I am on the lap top and don't have access to all the recent photos... I am so technology illiterate. I should be called Dry the Dinosaur. But at least you get to see her now AND I proved to myself I could do it. Yay.
-
Dory- That little photo of Hannah is just adorable, she looks like she was born with really nice skin!
Well I had my MCHN appointment today, I was worried what she would say about us now formula feeding-She suprise dme by saying that if the household is happier & I am less stressed out etc-Then that is not aproblem, she was very understanding about it actually! She also taught me good ways of settling Harlow and said that when a baby shows tired signs you basically have 5 minutes to get them to settle & sleep or else that is when they become overtired & you find it harder to settle them! She also taught me how to angel wrap her and I have just tried it and she is sound asleep for the first time in the afternoon (Though next doors kids are hurling abuse at each other & just woken her so I spoke to soon!)
-
Wite - Thankyou! Good news about your appointment and for not getting "in trouble". Hope the new techniques work for settling Harlow.
-
Dory (the dinosaur) - she is gorgeous!! She actually looks a lot like Chloe in that photo too which is weird
Deana - for wind; cycling his legs like he is on a bicycle apparently works (although it didnt for Chloe), watching what 'gassy' foods you eat, propping up the head end of his basinet/cot, patience and persistance!! Good luck with it, it is definately NOT easy
Wite - glad she was supportive. 5 minutes hey.. it usually takes me a lot longer than that to figure out she is actually tired to start with. *sigh*
Hi to everybody. No news here. Same old, same old. Nearly bath time x
Edit: Belfie - is X ok? Saw your post on FB about febrile convulsions (?).
-
Fuzzy - Yes he's ok. So scary tho. Basically just thought he had my head cold and he was falling asleep early (10.30am instead of 1pm), so was chatting with my 2 friends who had come over for a playdate & we just let him sleep. Then we heard his voice so DH went to get him up (cos I was feeding). Suddenly DH YELLS. He found Xander flat on his back, eyes staring open. He didn't respond to DH, jerked & arched his back then coughed & vomited. Then he went totally limp. So we've all run in there. I saw X saw just totally limp with the vomit & thought he was sick but didn't realize the full extent of it. My friend (has 3 kids) took charge & packed me back to feed & said don't worry we've got this. So I'm sitting on the sofa feeding desperately trying to see what's happening - I felt awful cos I just wanted to be with X. then they bought him out to me and he was soooo lethargic. Next thing he went unresponsive again!!! Just blanked out - noone home. DH had organized a dr's app for later that arvo & i said no I think we need it now or hossie. I was worried it might be meningitis or something cos he just looked so sick(& was very hot too). So we got an appt for basically straight away & off we went. He'd improved a bit when we got there but still very weak & could barely walk. Dr checked him & said it was a febrile convulsion!!! He had a temp of 39.7. Basically it's not how high the temp is but how quick it spikes up. Apparently 3% of kids get them between ages 6mths - 6yrs. So he's on panadol & nurofen to keep temp down plus antibiotics. I think if I had realized what DH saw I would have called an ambulance but we have an awesome GP so close so at least it all worked out fine. He should be fine now but gosh we're keeping a close eye on him. He was a lot brighter yesterday arvo which was good.
And little missie didn't settle till nearly 1am and I'm worried she's getting our bug cos she's super snuffly, plus I'm still coldy. Aah what I would give for more sleep, i'm wrecked. On a bright note,my beautiful friends had cleaned up my kitchen & living area for us, plus bought in washing before they locked up (as we just ran out of the house & left them to lock up).
Hope to bbl with persies.
FYI the RCH info sheet our doc gave us - it's a good source of info & I'd recommend reading it in case you ever have this happen with your kids: http://www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/facts...fm?doc_id=3722
Everything I've read says it's basically scarier for the parents! I'd agree with that.
-
Belfie - you poor thing! That's my biggest fear if one of my kids having one as I had one as a baby but I went completely blue and had to have CPR, they said I was lucky to survive! I tell u what I would be a massive wreck ifthat happened to my kids! I think I was 1yo or around then maybe less.
I really feel for you going through that..
Hope Xander is feeling better today !!
-
Fuzzy- I didn't even know the "tired" signs to even look out for until the MCHN told me some yesterday (Yawning, fussing, jerking, scratching their faces, throwing their arms around, just general fussing)..Which probably explains why I have had some troubles getting her down during the day because I just thought she was being fussy for attention or because she was put down or something-when really she was tired & needed to be settled.
Belfie- Febrile convulsions are so scary aren't they, especially with how quick a temp can just go up and cause them. Glad you weren't at home with just you & the kids when it happened & that you had support there with you...Glad he perked up a little in the arvo aswell, what a relief hey..
-
far out Belfie, how scary! I wouldn't know what to do if that was Isaac so thanks for the info link. I hope Xander is ok, and I hope you and your DH are also ok after the scare
dory - Hannah is gorgeous! and your new signature line is beautiful. Glad you worked out how to get a pic up :)
-
Gees Belfie what an ordeal. Glad everything is ok now. Given a long stretch I bet you could sleep for days after that adrenalin rush!
-
Belfie -that is so scary! Glad you got through it ok. Hope X recovers well and you feel better soon and get some rest.
Wite - tired signs can be subtle..... don't beat yourself up ... I am sure I miss them at times.... many times.
Bec - thanks. We have a cot and are yet to use it - been using pram and bassinnette too.
Hiya to everyone else.... miss you... hope all is well.
I am not looking forward to the summer heat! Have a good weekend.
-
Hi mumma's and bubba's! Sorry i've been MIA, I am reading just not enough time to post...
We are going well here. Had a bad night with Isla a few days ago, not sure if it was reflux or colic but she was crying and screaming most of the night. DH & I were up from midnight till 5am, she just wouldn't let us put her down. Eventually we were both so exhausted we just had to let her scream it out, really hated seeing her in pain :( She had a couple of episodes the next day but now she's all fine. So hopefully no more of that.
Apart from that night she's been sleeping very well, only feed her once a night she usually wakes at 2ish or 3ish then sleeps till 7ish. She's in Aldi nappies as we've ran out of huggies but finding the Aldi ones just as good. Have tried Smugglers but she's still a bit little for them yet. Fits into 000 clothes, i just love dressing her in cute things!
Belfie, that must of been terrifying for you & DH to see X like that! Bodie has vomited off a high temp before but never convulsed. Glad he's ok now.
Well better go as im typing with 1 hand whilst holding Isla.. hehe.
Hi everyone! xoxo
-
Wite - I didn't know the tired signs to look for either, so thanks, that should help.
Apes - hehe I'm getting better at the one handed typing too :)
dory - Summer is going to be awful. It's been in the 30's here for the last few days, today was supposed to get to 37! I think that's why Isaac has had trouble sleeping. I'm lucky I have air con, but I don't like using it much.
Isaac has had hardly any sleep today, except for an hour this morning on our walk and an hour or so in the sleepywrap this afternoon.. he cried every time I put him down, I think he might have had a belly ache or something by the way he was wriggling and lifting his legs. We just had a 3 hour sleep together (yay!), and I'm hoping for some better sleep tonight, I'm so tired.. missed out on a nap today. Sometimes I just wish there was someone else here to even just hold him and rock him to sleep for me, even though I love it, its just exhausting sometimes when I don't know what's wrong with him.
Oh and I enrolled in uni today!! Will be interesting to see if I can keep up with the study load. I thought I'd be able to make use of all the breastfeeding time, should be able to get a few hours reading in a day. I can't wait to start in two weeks, I'm doing BA Community Development, hoping it'll open up some really interesting work for when Isaac is at school age (seems so far away at the moment though!).
Quick whinge.. I still have carpel tunnel syndrome, I got it when I was pregnant. I thought it was supposed to go away after the birth, but its still sooo painful. I have constant pins and needles in my right hand, and when I lay with Isaac snuggled in my arm I wake up with my whole arm in pain, it happens both sides. I'm goinfg to ask at my 6 week check up about the procedure to fix it.
-
Yikes Bec that doesnt sound nice at all. I hope the GP can fix it up for you. Thanks for the reminder about the 6 week check up. I skipped mine!
Apes -so jealous of Isla's sleep ability. Chloe goes down at 7:30-8pm then I dreamfeed her about 10:30-11 and she sleeps until 1:30 ish. Then she wakes at about 4 and then again at around 6. Not sure how to get her out of this habit or whether it will just improve on its own..
-
fuzzy - I keep forgetting to ask, are you still having problems getting Chloe's passport photo? I had an idea, not sure if it'll work but what if you did a video and then do a screen capture of the split second she (hopefully) does the right pose? About the sleeping, that sounds almost exactly how Isaac sleeps... From what I've been told its normal for most breastfed babies to wake like that during the night, and they will gradually go longer between feeds.. I just keep thinking its not forever, and every baby is different so when I hear about a fantastic sleeper I just go and read something about baby sleep/breastfeeding to remind me that Isaac is completely normal. If I get a nap during the day I'm not too tired usually. And anyway if he does sleep longer than that my boobs get sooo sore that I can't wait for him to wake up and drain them! Also I'd be worried that if I tried to make him sleep longer it'd do something to my milk supply.
-
Thats true Bec. I am getting enough sleep overall so I shouldnt really complain. And yes my boobs definately feel it at the 4 hour mark if she makes it that long! I managed to get a passport photo eventually and we should get it in the mail this week. I managed to hire a porta cot + car seat + car for 7 days in Bali and it cost me $210 all up! Gees the place is so cheap
-
awesome you got the photo eventually :) Wow what a bargain, I bet you can't wait to go. I have the travel bug pretty badly, hopefully I can find someone to travel with next year, I can't really just pack a backpack and go on my own anymore!
that reminds me, I should go have a nanna nap.
-
i have a little woo hoo to add tonight. Today I gave another lady some EBM for her baby. She's had lots of trouble with feeding - cracked nipples, thrush, supply issues. Anyway, long story short, I have about 5-6 litres in the freezer, and nothing to do with it... and she has a poor hungry little bubba! She's just started some medication to get her supply up, and she's doing everything she can... but in the interim, my EBM will help top her bubba up. I'm so pleased that someone can use the milk, and it's such a wonderful gift to be able to give someone - it feels like a gift to my soul as well.
Chuckie - nipple vasospasm... YOUCHIES! I've read about that and it sounds horribly hurty, you poor thing. Does warming them help? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.
Dory - love the pic of HB!
Sorry out of time for the rest of the persies... but hope you're all going well. Annika has seemed much happier & more comfortable this week, I think the meds are really kicking in which is great. I can't believe she's 8 weeks already... time flies!
G'night, sending all the bubbas happy sleepy vibes!
-
Belfie - 5-6 litres! My gosh you have been busy. And you are right - that is so amazing to be able to do that for someone. You are not only helping her but REALLY helping her little bub too.
Has anyone who is BFing had any problems getting bubs on a bottle of EBM? Chloe was fine at first but over the past few weeks she wont have a bar of the bottle. Screams her head off when DH tries to give it to her. Any advice for how to get her to accept it again? We have tried different times of day and different levels of hunger. We are using the Medela small teat - which she used to take fine.
-
Fuzzy - can't really help with suggestions to get Chloe to accept the bottle of EBM...maybe try a different brand of bottle & teat? I know frustrating ..... or maybe the next flow level in the one you have? Glad you got your photos and that is cheap as chips to hire all that stuff in Bali - when do you go?
Apes - my heart goes out to you - that's what Hannah used to be like pretty much all of the time - it is truly a very hard aspect of parenting and I thought in my darkest moments that it was just pure torture. I hope Isla doesn't have a repeat of that too often - for both hers and your sake. But OMG - that is an amazing sleeping schedlue! Hannah sleeps more like Chloe in terms of feeds/waking schedule at night and I think it's good.
Belfie - That is awesome. I wish I had known someone who could have helped us out that way. I was sooooo disappointed to have to give Hannah formula but at the same time she needed nourishment and I just couldn't give her what she needed. I am getting better with expressing - I might get 140ml in one session now. Yay. I am giving Hannah at least two top ups per day of EBM ( which is two less formula feeds each day). We are lucky that Hannah accepts both forms of food the breat, EBM and formula and both the breast and bottle. I guess that can change, but I hope not. 5-6 litres is huge!
Hmm carpel tunnel - I just realised that mine has almost gone, some numbness in the fingers now but no pain!. Bec - sorry yours is still there. It is horrid.
Bec - I can only imagine what it's like going solo... I only have to do it during the day and on the hard days, the day seems very long. I suppose you'll just develop strategies that work for you - like your sleepywrap or sleeping together ( that has worked a few times for us when desperate). I am just in awe of you ... I wish I could help you out but it's long way between SA and QLD! Big cuddles to Isaac.
Well a bit sad here - I missed out on a family do yesterday because I was so tired I could hardly see, so there was no way I could drive 45 mins one way. But I had a great nap as did Hannah and I felt so much better last night. I just realised that I haven't been having a nanna nap during the day for ages. Guess it caught up on me? Oh well Her majesty calls - she's not settling - so better go see to her. Might be time for a song or to read a book or just a nurse.
-
Belfie - wow what a generous precious gift you gave, well done. And well done for having such a big stock of EBM in your freezer! Reminds me I should do some more expressing. Using other womens breast milk was in the media recently, I couldn't believe some women say that they would never use donated EBM, I heard of one lady who even stopped speaking to her good friend because she offered her baby her EBM.. it's so much better than formula, even if its from someone else! Well done again, your friend and her baby are very lucky.
Fuzzy - I haven't tried Isaac with a bottle yet. He won't take a dummy anyway so I don't think he'd go for it. When I was giving him EBM I used a syringe and finger, but he was smaller so not having a lot. What about cup feeding? I remember watching a video about it while I was in hospital, apparently it prevents nipple confusion. It looked easy with a little newborn, but I don't know how it'd go with a bigger wriggly bub. p.s. love the pic, so cute!
Dory- thanks, it is hard sometimes. The bad nights are the worst, like at 2am when its too late to call my mum and I'm super tired and can't think straight. I've been in tears a couple if times, saying why the hell am I on my own, but those desperate times have been thankfully brief. After I sleep I feel so much better. And the majority of nights are good, I'm lucky Isaac hardly cries normally. We do sleep together, usually he is in the 'my little bed' on my bed but usually after the 2/3am feed he sleeps beside me in my arm. Also he sleeps with me for my nanna nap. It's so much nicer to be woken up by him wriggling around searching for my boob for a feed instead of waking to cries and having to get up.
I'm so lucky mum is just around the corner too, she visits most days and helps by doing housework or by settling Isaac for me, changing nappies, playing with him. It's nice to have a little break. Even though I do love being independent, I'm jealous of you guys who aren't alone at night time! Sorry that you missed out on your family do, but nice to hear you got some sleep :)
Ok Isaac has just fallen asleep on my boob, so now I get to go and make my dinner, yay :D
-
Fuzzy- We had some problems getting Jett onto a bottle of EBM when he was a little bub and we switched brands of bottles to the Tommee Tippee ones and had better sucess because they are designed like a nipple/boob so they can put their whole mouth over it in the same way..Maybe worth buying one & seeing if you have sucess with it?
-
Dory – thanks for the tips, I tried the one where I nurse Blake on my chest and support his feet and he now loves it, falls asleep almost all the time in that position
Apes – Blake was the same but only during the day last Thursday and Friday. I was ready to pull my hair out. I couldn’t imagine it during the night, you poor thing
Dory – Im sorry to hear that you had to miss the family do, hopefully there will be another one soon for you
Sorry haven’t posted in a while again lol. Just finding time during the day to jump on and catch up is hard as Blake doesn’t sleep much during the day anymore and when he does go down in the arvo, I try to get house work done lol.
Blake is doing very good, besides last Thursday and Friday, both days he screamed all day. Not sure if it was the sudden heat we have been getting, or if it is the Mylanta giving him an upset tummy or nappy rash. I stopped the Mylanta just in case, but also put nappy rash cream on his little red bum and he seems to be doing great again so not sure which one was the problem lol.
Does anyone know how much water throughout the day I can give blake? I usually only give him about 10mls of warm water a day, but mum said on hot days to just make sure he doesn’t get dehydrated?
For the past 3 nights, Blake has been sleeping through the night yay. I give him his last bottle at 8pm and he has been sleeping right till 5:30-6am. Hopefully it stays this way lol.
-
Bec - I used to love sleeping with ash under my arm. And loved him waking to find a boob rather crying. I know 100% how all that feels. Nights was always my hardest.. It was more so when ash was a little older and if he got sick and threw up, one time in particular all over me and his bed and himself and I had to consol a crying baby and clean it all up whilst holding him and leave myself to last THAT was a massive moment for me. It is very tough emotionally, but here's a good positive for you when you start getting sad at night.. Think how wonderful and amazing those feelings feel when your cuddling your little man in bed and think if you had a man in bed with you chances are he would winge about not getting attention or wanting sex and it would be easy at all sharing a bed with everyone. Then if he did have to be on his own bed you would have issues about who gets up to what and who's more tired etc....
After rob started coming on the scene he always said get ash in his own bed cos it's not good for him to co-sleep. But he had NO idea how beautiful it was sleeping with him.
And on my saddest days, waking every morning and looking down at him smiling back at me made nothing in the world matter!
Just a quick me post -
I prob won't be on BB too much for a while. Tho I do read and try to keep updated. And for thoes who see the depressing posts on fb and wonder why..
Rob and I are pretty much over after I found some dirty messages to girls on his phone from right after Isabella was born. I won't go into it but I'm a big time mess ATM and not really coping with it, but pls don't say anything on fb to why I'm upset as his family are on it too.
Hope everyones well xx
-
Oh buzzie that is so terrible! I am thinking of you. Just remember you mean the world to little isabella xx chat here/vent as much as u like
Wite - thanks i will try that brand out and see how i go
Deana - i dont think you should give babies water at all. They used to do that in the old days but its now accepted that bubs get everything they need in their BM and i am assuming formula too
Dory - keep up on those nanna naps! it is hard though isnt it
ok i have to wake chloe to go get her immunisations now. wish me/her luck!
-
Deana - you're welcome - just glad one worked. No idea about water... sorry. I am amazed at Blake's sleeping through.... I reckon we are way off that here..... but as long as I can get some sleep inbetween it's ok. I know what you mean about housework - it's constant and a constant balance.
Fuzzie - god like with those vaccinations - ours are Wednesday and I have been dreading them for ages... I am going to give Hannah some panadol beforehand - about 1 hour- and then some boobie soothing afterwards. Let us know how you go?
All ok here. Bit of a rough night - from the 3am feed through to about 6.30am, just wouldn't settle for more than about 15 mins, and at 7am I thought I could get some sleep but Hannah woke crying, a really heartbreaking little cry... mwahhhh, not screaming. She rarely cries on waking. But she had wind last night and I wonder if that is a hang over from that. A quick cuddle didn't work but the boobie soothing did, at least for an 1hour and half.
Buzzie - oh sweetie - that is so tough. But you will do what is right for you and your children. I hope you get through this tough time. Remember, you are a strong and powerful woman and a mother to two beautiful children. You will survive and you will do so with dignity and grace. Go gently.
Bec - I wanted to also say I am awe at you about uni. It's ok to cry! I do it heaps, when I am tired and strung out and just want Hannah to sleep. It IS so special to sleep together with bubs. I have a few times and it's just grand. Buzzie made a good point about having someone else in the bed... PITA....
Better go, trying to still organise my thankyou cards and also arrange a chirstening. Decided I wanted to try and have it done before 2010 draws to an end. I know crazy, but will see if I can pull it off. It's amazing how quickly the guest list adds up.... blimey, I am now crossing people off. Then the next thing to arrange is the wording on the plaques for Nick and Sophie - I think DH and I have finally agreed on a final version and will submit it next week, then we have to wait for them to be made and then we can arrange for a ceremony for Ameila, Nick and Sophie to be interred. Not sure if we'll have an open do and invite people or just have it DH, Hannah and me. Seems a bit weird in a way to have a ceremony so long after they died, but we weren't ready for it before now.
-
Buzzie, just popped in here to see how you were going as I saw on FB you were having a hard time. What an *******! :( Sorry but I can't imagine what your going through right now. *BIG HUGS* We are all here for you hun.
Fuzzy/Wite, We use Tommee Tippee bottles here too. I think they are great in that like Wite said the teets are like nipples and they have the valve near the teet that helps with Colic.
Belfie, That is awesome you could help a stressed mum & baby by giving bub your milk! Good on you :)
Bec, you poor thing having carpel tunnel, must be painful having pins & needles all the time. Do you just have to wait till it eventually goes away?
Deana, Yay for Blake sleeping through! Now can he come over to our place and tell that to Isla! hehe Nah I shouldn't complain she sleeps pretty well most of the time.
Just wanted to say your all superwomen for keeping up the breastfeeding when times are tough. I kind of felt like a failure when I didn't keep up the breastfeeding with both my children. They were both really slow at attaching etc, but I know if I kept expressing then they would of eventually got the hang of it. Oh well I don't really want to beat myself up about it because they are both healthy bubba's and formula wouldn't be on the market if it wasn't safe. :)
Isla has been going great lately, no more upset tummy screams which I am stoked about.
My poor DS was vomiting a couple of nights ago, think he caught it off this little cousin as he was sick aswell. Hate seeing him sick like that, poor thing was crying when he vomited as he didn't know what was going on. He's always been such a healthy child. Can't belive he'll be 3 in december! They grow up way too quickly!
Went to a baby & kids market on the weekend got some great bargains! They have stalls where most things are 2nd hand so got Isla some adorable little outfits all for like $2!
So close to Christmas! What is everyone getting their bubs for xmas... still not sure what to get Isla as she'll only going to be 3 months old?

bugger. I just lost my whole post. I'll try again.
Deana- fuzzy is right, babies don't need water. Someone recommended it to me the other day, so I did some quick research and found out they get enough from BM or FF, and it's not recommended until at least 6 months as it interferes with their ability to absorb nutrients from BM or FF. It looks like you're only giving Blake a small amount, but I wouldn't give him more than that unless your dr ok's it first.
Buzzie - thank you. That night sounds really horrible, sometimes it must be just so hard.. You have done, and are doing, an awesome job. You're right about the way things could be with a partner though, I'm very happy I don't have to put up with someone else needing my attention, especially if they are like the guys I end up with! I had a beautiful moment with Isaac this morning, we had such a bad night but this morning when I woke up my eyes slowly opened and right there in front of me were my bubs beautiful big dark eyes gazing into mine. Like he was waiting for me, or like we were just in tune and woke at the same time. That moment just filled me with so much love, so special.
I can't imagine the hurt you're going through right now Buzzie, big hugs, and feel free to vent.
fuzzy - good luck with the immunisations.. and how fast are the weeks going!
dory - We had a bad night here too. Isaac would cry whenever he was laid down, every time I put him in bed, turn off the light then get in bed myself he cried, so I'd get up again. Boob soothing worked here too, but it was just like he was snacking and not having meal size feeds so it felt like we were constantly up feeding. We got a couple of hours sleep this morning though, and he had a growly belly and huge loud poos this morning so I think it was a tummy thing which would explain why he needed to be upright a lot. Thanks about uni, but I'll have to see how I go with it. Just hoping I can do it, especially after nights like last night.
I don't think it's too late at all to be organising a ceremony for your angel babies now, it'll never be too late to do things like that to honour them.
Apes - I was told the carpal tunnel would just go away, but if it doesn't there's a procedure they can do to fix it. It's so painful sometimes. Don't beat yourself up about using formula, not everyone can bf and it is incredibly hard those first few days and weeks. Those bargains sound awesome, I love shopping for 2nd hand clothes. Most of the stuff is in great condition, the op shop here has baby clothes for 4 pieces for a dollar, love it!
I'm not going to get anything for Isaac for xmas. I'm not being a meanie, but he's too little to remember it, let alone to know what a present even is. I know his nanna and aunties will buy him something though. But I really think xmas is out of control, so commercialised.. it seems to be all about retailers telling us to buy more stuff. I don't know, I think my views have been changed by spending last xmas in a country where its all about spending the day with family, going to church (I don't, I'm not religious.. and christmas is a religious hoiliday after all), eating, dancing, talking and laughing.. no presents were given. A Tanzanian friend of mine told me that a few years ago his mum worked for a german family who gave presents for christmas, so she thought she'd do it too that year. My friend and his brother and sister all got a new pair of shoes at the end of their beds on christmas morning.. he was so happy when he told me about that. So anyway, I suppose my opinion now is that it's a religious holiday, not about shopping. I'll spend xmas day with my mum, I might even go to church just to be part of the day with people who believe in it, just like I celebrated the end of ramadan last year with a muslim friends family. I know I'll be seen as an awful mama if I do the no presents thing when Isaac is older though so next year I'll probably give in to the pressure and go spending :)
edit: I mean no offence to anyone here about christmas shopping, just got carried away typing! I know how much kids love presents :D

Hi all,
Buzzie - that totally sucks!!! what a ####head! At least you found out now and not in another few years
Deana - everyone else is spot on. No need for water. Sometimes bubs will need to be feed a bit more frequently in warmer weather though to keep them hydrated. Great to hear that Blake is doing better at night time - amazing that he sleeps so little in the day but it must be soo good to have a solid nights sleep!
Bec - well done on the uni front. I was considering doing a MBA part time by correspondence but figured that we plan on having more kids fairly soon and I don't see myself having time to scratch myself if I have a toddler and baby so would not get it finished. I am sure you will do a great job (I also reckon kids with parents that have a life are better off anyway because it is not always about them). I hear you on the chrissy front. I am just going to wrap a few things I need to get for Pearl anyway and put them under the tree- she will get heaps from everyone else and have no idea what is going on anyway. I am having a debate with DH about one gift though - I want to buy Pearl a nice pearl on a necklace or something to give to her when she is older but he thinks I should just put the cash into a savings account for her and buy her several Pearls when she is older (so sensible but not very romantic!)
Dory - don't worry about the immunisations I am sure HB will be fine. Pearl had a quick winge and I gave her two doses of panadol that night and she slept really well the next day (I have heard some bubs are pretty unsettled afterwards though). Good on you for having a ceremony for your angels I think it is really important to acknoledge and remember them. I am sure how ever you decide to run it will be lovely - maybe just a few close family?? Good luck with the christening I am already fending off DH's family who think Pearl should be christened (not my cup of tea but a great celebration of new life).
Apes - I think you are a superwoman for managing a newborn and a toddler. I am sure Isla is healthy as on the bottle and your household is much more sane for it. I have a good friend here who has 4 kids and she chose to bottlefeed them all, my mum is one of 8 and they were also all bottlefed - there is nothing wrong with formula. DH's family all make a list of what they want and give it to each other - I have just put toys and books on Pearl's list.
Belfie - you go with the litres of EBM! Back when Dory was having probs with supply I was wishing I could give her some - what a precious gift and good on you for giving it. I hope X (and his dad!) have recovered - how scary for you all!!! Yep warming the boobs helps - I now wear breat pads and breast warmers - what a great look lol!
Wite, fuzzy - hi!!
Kirsten - How are you going? How is the therapy going? I hope you are dealing with stuff and moving forward (to quote our PM!)
AFM - still battling the nipplevasospasm here. Some days I think it is improving and other days I am flat again - it doesn't help that the medication makes me tired as well as nauseas and headachy! I spoke to the LC again today (and paid her $120) and she tried to explain getting Pearl to latch properly with her bubble palate. It is hard on the phone though and I reckon if theings have not improved significantly by next week I will fly to Adelaide for a proper consult. The cracks in my nipples are getting better and I am now taking 2X panadol with 2X nurofen at night when I feed out of the 'bad' boob and that helps me get back to sleep. I am also using a heat bag at night so I am learning to manage the pain better which is good. I feel like my life has been a bit on hold while I deal with this crap so once I have it sorted I can go back to doing other things.
At the mo we are also planning a trip to Fiji/vanuatu early next year (have to get a passport pic of Pearl like you did Fuzzy that should be fun LMAO) and trying to get organised for chrisy by buying stuff online so we have less to organise in Adelaide when we get there.

Buzzie- Thinking of you chicky...Sending msg's the night after your gorgeous girl was born is just f&%#ng low and you really do deserve better. I hope you can move foreward and stay strong and remember us girls are here if it helps to vent/talk/cry- It's not just about all baby stuff with us all now, we have all formed a friendship and bond so we are here unconditionally ok :)
Bec- I LOVE presents...I mean, Christmas IS about family..but nothing says Christmas like spending the afternoon trying to shove as much wrapping paper and cardboard packaging into the recycling bin then wondering where the heck your going to put the rest of your recyclables for the remainder of the week!!!!!!LOL! We are only buying Harlow some clothes for the next 6 months..Definatly not going overboard because she won't even remember it-but I do like looking back on "first christmas" photos..Unfortunatly DP royally screwed Jetts first Christmas so we only got ONE photo..lol!

Hi guys,
Dory - I think our bubs are in tune with eachother. i read your posts and its like you are writing about Chloe!
Just a quick one as I can hear her starting to grizzle. She had her shots yesterday morning. Screamed the doctors office down and brought tears to my eyes! Afterwards she promptly went to sleep and was really drowsy until late afternoon when she was really unsettled. Then we had a horror night of her waking every 2 hours. She was obviously in pain as she would kick her little legs and then start a 'pain' cry and wake herself up. Have been giving her panadol which seems to have helped a bit. She also had a bit of a fever yesterday too. I guess just be prepared for a day or two of unsettled behaviour!
-
Fuzzy - glad you & Chloe have come through it ok. I am surprised at how apprehensive I am about it. I will be glad when it's done. Hope you are both doing better today? OMG - Hannah has been asleep since 11.30am and it's now 4pm. She was awake though between 5am and 11.30am, with only two short cat naps. I even got to sleep for a couple of hours and I haven't been able to do that in ages. But like Fuzzy I can hear Hannah starting to rouse....
Can you believe how quickly the time is going?
-
i know i cant believe they are 2 months old already!! She is doing a little better today. She just slept for 3 hours. Will see how we go tonight! glad u got a sleep in
-
buzzie - Im sorry to hear about Rob. You know im always hear to chat with if you need to. Just PM me on BB or FB. Keep your head up babe. I know it’s the hardest thing in the world to go through.
Fuzzy /Bec– The midwife told me that water is ok for Blake now. Hmmm now you have me worried.
Dory – That is just beautiful having plaques made up for your little angels. Maybe I should do the same. I still think about my little angels every day. I know they are close to me though. Awe its brought a tear to my eye.
Well Just when I thought Blake is going to start sleeping through the night, he has gone back to his routine of waking up at 3:30am for a bottle. It just annoys me that time as I feed him, change him and nurse him until I see his eyes starting to drift off and by the time I get to sleep DP’s alarm goes off half an hour later and as soon as I hear that alarm, I’m awake totally.
I start my mothers group tomorrow, so excited and poor Blake gets his immunisations on Friday. I have to get DP to take him, I just wont be able to stand seeing him cry when he has his needles.
I hope everyone is well
-
chuckie - i meant to say yesterday - how are u going? It sounds pretty tough for you ATM. Is it getting better? Goodluck with the passport photo..
Deana - i start mothers group today too! hope there are some nice people there.
In for a hot spell here with the next three days over 35! oh well its preparation for Bali. 3 weeks until we go!

Hi girls, thankyou for all your comments. I've managed to eat my first meal since Saturday today so I'm a little more functional - for now. Robs SIL is having the kids on sat for us and we are going to have a make or break conversation. So will be interesting after that. He says he doesn't want to loose me and his family and thinks he needs help! (ain't kidding there) but his family are furious at him so his brother is gonna have a man to man before Saturday and give him the what for!
Anyways Been reading ur posts and just wanted to say hope the mothers groups go well today for those starting.
And the only post I remember Deana - I wouldn't give water to a little bub either. You start that when you start solids normally - think Ash was 9ish months when he had water but I just gave him a bottle to play with didn't expect him to drink it! :)
Hope everyones got lovely weather like melb does today beautiful sunny 24 - so needed it today!!

Hello :)
Hi ladies,
I thought I would pop my head in and introduce myself; I'm Angie from Brisbane. My hubby and I had our first little bubba on 20 September - a perfect little girl Penelope (Penny) Rose. She is the absolute light of my life xo
Since I'm only new at this parenting gig I might not be any help to anyone for advise but would love some like-minded online buddies
Hope everyone and their bubbas are happy and healthy!
Angie
