Cally I think I'm just emotionally over-attached to the change table because we didn't have one at all with DD1 (often wished for one but that was pre ebay days and we were POOR) - I have changed Missy E on the floor too, it's just a bit of a job for me getting up these days (sad excuse for a fat unfit surgically-modified woman that I am).
...BUT the good news is, I finally got my exercise trampoline :D
-
Hi everyone. Haven't been getting much chance to use the computer lately.
Ginger, hope that J enjoyed his birthday. Good luck with the hair cuts, but don't take too many curls away!
Trill, hope you still make time to post in here! I haven't had a chance to catch up on your mum's DH thread but I think it would be an idea to get your DH to visit him and arrange to get in a lawyer if your mum's DH wants that. I hate hate hate the way the vultures circle when there is a whisper of death. Last year before my 96 year old great-grandmother was moved to a rest home, one of my uncles dropped around, introduced himself (she hadn't seen him for over 20 years) and then proceeded to tell her that as her daughters son he was entitled to something in her will and he would like the empty section next to her house and he would like it now thank you very much! So wrong - she didn't recognise him from a bar of soap, he is one of 8 of that daughters children and one of about 20 grandchildren, and no-one is actually entitled to anything!! After Nana got over the shock she told him where to go!
Clare, that must have been frightening to find L gone! I didn't reassemble the change table after we moved back to NZ when W was 5 months - I have just changed him on the floor or the couch since then. A is using the change table now, but she is as long as it now so her feet are going to hang over the edge soon.
Cally, Yay for the sleep in! I was hoping that the other night when she slept in her bed all night was the start of a turn around for you. Sleep issues suck.
Things seem to be getting back on track here, there have only been two tantrums in the past 5 days which is a massive turn around. He is also going to bed better at night but is still waking up usually 2-4 times. In an effort to stop me picking unsatisfactory clothes for him to wear, he arrives at my bedside in the morning buck naked with a pair of socks on holding the clothes he has already selected for the day.
-
md- the exercise tramp sounds great. is that one of those little round ones?
unforunately my exercise machine has gathered a few cobwebs lately...oooops! LOL
arte- i like it that W selects his own clothes. that would save me the trouble of having to think of what to wear! LOL Lewis always puts together weird combinations, like diego undies with gumboots and a long-sleeve shirt. he's definitely not going to be a stylist.
well i'm pretty sure J is getting molars cos monday night i got about 2 hours sleep. unfortunately we had booked in to do their professional photos yesterday morning. i really wanted her to get some good ones of J, and just said try to get a couple of L if you can, but i didn't think she'd have much luck with him. well, turns out she actually managed to get heaps of L and because J was sooooo grumpy and tired, not very many of J. she reckons she got a few good ones before he totally cracked it, but i guess i'll have to wait and see and maybe get her to do them again if there's not enough. the thing is, he's in such a good mood today and is smiling at me all morning...grrrrr...isn't it always the way???
-
Yeah Ginger it's one of those round ones - though not as small as I imagined - needs to be housed in the spare room so there's no uninvited jumping by junior players. LOL I'm still a bit tentative with it - trying to get my hands on some rebounding DVDs so I can get into my bouncy groove.
Arte I had this amazing dream last night where we hopped on the plane to come and visit you. You shoulda seen the amazing mansion of a house you lived in (!!!) It was 5 stories high and built near the base of this amazing humungous tree so you looked out into the foliage no matter what room you were in. :) I'm pretty sure that's not what the area you live in looks like. Anyway for some reason (prolly cos he's the only DH I've met) your DH had more than a passing resemblance to Cass's DH, complete with a passion for italian espresso and all .

Well I am so sorry again that I have been absent – I guess it is a just a sign of how crazy busy I am these days – but I do try to pop on and read how you all are and I think of you all the time!
JungleMum – how is L now? I hope she is doing better – poor thing! Its so much better now they can tell you what hurts etc isn’t it. When are you moving again? A friend of mine has just moved to port Moresby – all going well so far!
Ginger – how did J’s bday go? I can’t believe he is 1 already! That time has gone so fast! I love how you describe him as a rockstar!
Cally – yay for the good sleep…. I hope it continues for you. How does she like her new furniture? I think we will get some of that for the boys soon too… though our new house has huge cupboards so we have 1 dedicate for their toys in the living room
MD – what did you do for the cancersary? Is H doing better at school?
Isadora – don’t feel bad about asking if we are going to a catholic school – I wasn’t offended or anything! I am thrilled with our school choice… but it is going to hit us hard cash wise that’s for sure! I guess I have them in crèche 4 days now, so it is prob about the same…
Clare – your trip to KI sounds divine – I would like to go there too. We are just waiting to see how our cashflow wil be looking this yr and then I am going to be in my usual holiday booking mode too! I am thinking we may go to Hawaii… and/or Byron Bay (never been there!). I cant believe she was sleeping on the chg table… you must have freaked out when her bed was empty… worst nightmare ever!
Sherie – I hope you will still be an active member esp in here… what a big decidion for you but it sounds the right thing and I am thrilled you are loving uni so muich, you will be an amazing teacher at the end of it all
Arte – glad that W is having a few better days… LOL at ensuring no wardrobe disasters! Love it!
Jaz – missed you… WTG Hannah on the potty. I just bought some undies for N, we need to get onto the TT I think. How is your diet going?
AFM all is well. I am back at work now and I got the role I really wanted… so I am thrilled but FLAT OUT! Boss has agreed to 4 days per week for a while but will go to 5 in july I think when J is 12 months. He is doing ok at childcare – but he wont take the bottle at all so I am expressing at work to keep trying with him and also going up there to BF in the day. He is majorly unsettled at night and super clingy to me only… I guess all part of the settling in, sleep deprivation and fatgue on a whole new level for me! N is doing fabulously – he just loves being here in melb with all our family. He is moving to the centre I have J in next week so that’s fab. He will also have 1 day a week with my IL which he will love!
I have a new nephew who was born last Friday – all v exciting! He was an unplanned homebirth!!! He is divine! My SIL was v v unwell but she is great now too. I am excited we have 4 boys all so close in age!
Ginger – I remember you saying J was not at all interested in solids – how is it going now? My J wont even take more than 1-2 tsp EVER!
-
mp- wow an unplanned hb sounds interesting. how did that happen?
j is still not overly into solids. tbh, we ended up just mainly doing bls as he hates being spoonfed (except for a little bit of yoghurt here and there). he's a really big fruit eater, so the main part of his diet is just chunks of fruit. for dinner he usually just has a bit of whateber we're having with a bit of bread and butter. he's pretty boob obsessed atm tbh.
md- those dvds sound interesting! what is the main goal of the tramp? i would be hard-pressed trying to keep my boys off it LOL
girls i'm a little bit thrown about something that i just want to run past you. this morning at gymbaroo the teacher pulled me aside to talk about lewis. the words ADD were mentioned...which has really shaken me...and she's given me some numbers to call. i don't want to be one of those mums who can't see something in their own child but tbh i am pretty upset about the whole thing. she described him as very 'go, go, go' and said she has seen this sort of thing before and that i might want to look at doing something about it. i always thought he was spirited but now i feel like a bit of an idiot iykwim?
-
G - what basis did she give you for that opinion aside from that he is 'go go go'?? nothing you have ever said about him has made me think anything along those lines.... is she qualified in any special area? sorry i dont have any info, it does frustrate me that ppl will come out with something like that if they are going off 'not much' iykwim but at the same time if there was something it woudl be good to get onto it early and deal with it. big hugs to you my sweet.
-
yeah i know what you mean. i guess her only qualification is that she's been teaching that age group for 17ys so has seen a lot of kids and behaviours iykwim? i was probably a bit too brief before. she was saying something along the lines of 'he's the kind of kid where you'll find that once he gets to school you're going to be called up all the time and they're going to want to try to diagnose him with add or something' more than actually saying that she thought he had it iykwim? she was very lovely about it and i think she was coming from a good place because she could see i was struggling and needed some support. he is very hard to manage and refuses to co-operate and follow instruction. i have always thought that this was just a personality type as dh is the kind of person that you cannot tell what to do and always kind of 'runs his own race' iykwim?
-
If L has ADD then so does Lu. Seriously, i grew up with ADD (my bro) and Lewis is just a boisterous, defiant 2 year old who know what he wants and what he doesn't. Sure he doesn't listen, but neither does Lu. You parent in a way that encourages him to have choices and be his own dog and that is just what he is. Tell her to shove it.
-
ha ha, i was waiting for you to reply! i love it.
eta- did you know your brother said that lewis had add? and i said that if he had it then so did Lu...and he agreed with me :)
-
He's always teasing me and saying Lu has ADD because he was such a little **** when he was a kid, so he thinks it is funny to say Lu has it. he doesn't really mean it. ;) They are outgoing 2 year olds, don't listen to that woman.
-
i know he didn't mean it xoxxo i just thought it was funny because of what you just said.
so......what do you reckon? is there something in what she was saying? tbh with you all, i'm really hating gymbaroo and dread going.
-
Then WHY are you going??? Ditch it. Take him to the play centre with your new playgroup weekly instead. ;)
-
because i've lready paid for the term and i don't like feeling like a quitter. it's the only place where i go and come away feeling like i'm not coping.
-
Hey everyone!
Arte, I'm so relieved to hear that things have been a bit easier for you the past few days. That's funny about him picking what he wants to wear. Maybe that was the key all along? A will crack it bigtime if you do something for him and he wants to do it, so maybe you can try letting him do more? He is such a precocious little boy I'm sure he would love the chance.
G, I dunno. ADD kids really are different to kids that are just constantly on the go. Maybe you could try cutting some preservatives and fruit (because there are a lot of natural preservatives in fruit that will set them off too) and see if that makes a difference to him? I'm sure she was well intentioned though just as I'm sure that you wont be a mum in denial. Your a teacher, you've seen kids with ADD/ADHD probably so what is your gut feeling?
MD, LOL at uninvited participants, I can just imagine it! How are the boobenheimers going to cope with the bouncing do you think? YOu will have to graduate from a reinforced surgical bra to a super reinforced sports bra ROFL.
MP, great to hear from you! That's wonderful you got the job you wanted :) I'm sure little J will be fine soon enough, there has been so much change for him that it will probably take a while for him to settle and get used to his new routine.
I went and got my glasses today! they feel a bit weird though LOL, but sitting here now with them on at the computer is heaps better already. I didn't realise how blurry the screen looked till now  Also went and saw Mums partner today too. Her Highness had a win and convinced him to change his name :( and I am beyond angry, but I can't dwell on it too much. They have given him one month on this new chemo and if the tests show that it isn't working for him then there is nothing more they can do for him unfortunately.
-
G, like Trill said, do you feel in your bones that he might be ADD or that he is just a busy busy boy? You have never posted anything that made me think he was outside of normal two year old behavior. If your DH is a 'live by his own rules' kind of guy then it is likely that L is similar - you have always said that L is his mini-me. As for gymbaroo, if it is stressing you out then get a refund and ditch it for something better. At this age if they don't want to do a structured activity then it is only a PITA to try to make them. Go to the playgroup where it is a free-for-all - you will both enjoy it more. It isn't worth it if it is making you feel like you aren't coping.
Trill, hope that your mums DH improves with the new chemo. Is it a possible cure or is it to give him longer? Must be really hard on your little bro.
MD, that makes two dreams about you coming to NZ.... We don't live in a mansion though, but I think I will enter the monthly photo comp this month if I can take a good pic.
I forgot to say - on Saturday W was babysat for the first time ever! I had toy library duty and it is very hard to have a child there with you, so he stayed at the neighbours house. She has a boy that is a sept 07 bub too. His face dropped when I said goodbye so I turned and boosted and he was fine. She found him at the gate once saying he might head off but managed to get him back inside with little fuss. When I got back both boys were pushing prams around the yard and W said he had fun.
-
Arte that is so great that you have been able to leave him with someone - not in a great great kind of way LOL but great that now you have someone that he seems to be happy with to leave him for a little while if you absolutely have to kwim? I might help him with the social side of things too if this little boy is the same age and it will help him make friends because I know you were worried about that.
-
Arte that's great that W had a "playover" - perhaps you could organise a regular swap...it's amazing how busy and entertained they can be when there's another little person there - and our 'bubs' are really at the age now when they are learning to play WITH one another (and not just alongside, kwim). It's so sweet when they start getting their own little friends!
Ginger - Pffft - there is no way she could make that observation based on the tiny fraction of time you are at gymbaroo each week! Missy E was totally out of control when we started at kindergym - omg the carry on I had - she wouldn't participate in the group activities at all and she had a couple of tantrums too. Turns out she was just a little too young for it - even tho she looked as big or bigger than most of the other kids in the session - a year later and she's cruising with it (athough most of the session they are just running free on the equipment, only a brief group activity at start and end). I found it exhausting then and I would've pulled her out even if I wasn't having chemo. Free range playgroup is good - esp if you have a nice kindy close by (that you're thinking of sending him too) as it helps get social with the other parents who are also thinking of sending their kids there. Once they turn 3 there are a lot of other activities you could think about - anything from little tackers soccer/football, little aths, kindermusic, swimming...Dont' keep going if you're not enjoying it - you're better off heading down to the playground for a bit.
Trill - I'm so sorry to hear your stepfather has hit his last line of treatment  - very scary, although they do keep the hard-hitting stuff for last, so he could still do quite well with this chemo...BUT it's really important for him to get his ship in order now. If his treatment works it means he can enjoy the time he has without worrying about what is needed to be done. Does he have contact with a Pal Care team yet? I'm told they are very good with general support & assistance with end-of-life issues, so that is something your Mum should look into early on if she can.
ETA re my tramp - Ginger it's basically a way to get aerobic activity without too much strain on your joints (there's not so much impact-stress) AND it helps your lymphatic drainage/ie removing toxins from your body because the up-down movement kind of 'massages' the cells & gets all the lymph fluid moving.
