Happy Birthday to Maddie, Sarah and Asha!!
MD - We almost had a similar hairbrush incident last week, although it was with Thomas, the battery powered engine. Why on earth she would think it was fun to drive him across her head, who knows! Luckily no scissors were required, but Thomas did end up with some lovely blond locks afterwards!
We're also getting a lot of 'I need..' Usually food related and generally not fruit or vegetable! Although on the weekend it was sushi and we were able to satisfy that need!

MD, I had to laugh at the hairbrush incident. We had that happen once and it wasn't fun for anyone. I also remember when i was about 8 or 9 and we were visiting by Aunt and her kids and my cousin had one of those Twirl and Curl barbie dolls - remember the ones that came with the curler you popped on her hair and you clicked the button and it would curl barbie's hair? Well we thought it would be a top idea to twirl and curl my hair with it and having such long and uber thick hair it worked a real treat :rofl: I can't really remember if I had to have it cut out, but I know it took forever to get it out.
Sounds like the object stuck in hair is some sort of rite of passage lol, I did it too. MD, you did well not to laugh, my mum would have laughed until she cried lol
Cally, you mentioned a series of kids books a while ago? Meg or mog or something? Can you remind me what they are called? We need some new books - if I read Hairy Maclary again I am going to smash my head into the wall!
OMG at the attitude of these little people! So glad I haven't come across that (yet!!) We are getting "I wish....(I had some ice-cream, I was going to the park etc)" which is quite cute. We seem to be on a smooth patch again, the latest batch of tantrums have run their course. Life is much easier without constant meltdowns! He is getting himself dressed again now instead of having to pin him down and force clothes on him. A much better start to the day. And he has slept though 4 nights in a row!!! But I suspect that has much to do with the cough medicine he has had before bed (he actually does have a cold lol).
Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day! OMG how good is it to have good weather! We went outside and planted my new garden. Raining again today but at least it was a taste of summer.

lewis and i spent the arvo baking a birthday cake for him yesterday, got the cake in the oven and then all of a sudden his face just blew up and was all swollen and puffy and his eyes were weeping. so, i had to chuck both kids in the car and head down to the hospital and turn the oven off on my way out the door. the hospital were awesome and suspect he has a severe case of hayfever, gave him antihistimine and he is doing much better today. can't say the same thing for the cake though.
Arte, they are called Meg and Mog, they are about a witch and her cat. E really enjoyed reading them as well. Glad to hear that the storm seems to have passed for you too :hug: You must be feeling a bit saner now too.
G, it's a bugger time of the year for hayfever. I have felt myself start to get sneezy and pop a pill before it takes old LOL. I look outside and the trees are just overloaded with pollen this year. I hope it settled down quickly for him though.
G, that must have been scary! I always hope there is no incident like that out of working hours because there is no medical care here when the Dr is shut - have to go over an hour for medical help.
Trill, how is lambing going? It is terrible here - I have heard estimates of over a million lambs dying from the bad weather. They are even losing the ewes. It is quite sad driving into town and seeing the wool bags full of slinky lambs at the gates.
trill- i get hayfever too but luckily haven't had it yet this season.
arte- we are pretty lucky that we have a hospital about 15 mins away. i have taken the kids there about 4 or 5 times in the last 3 years and every time they have been incredibly helpful and caring.
Arte - the author is Helen Nicoll. At the moment K is obsessed with the Thomas books. We have 40 of them and she is cycling her way through them. Glad that the getting dressed is easier. We often have getting dressed races in the mornings with Daddy - she's really into races, probably because that's all the engines ever do!
Ginger - glad that Lewis is OK. We are also lucky with a hospital only 15 minutes away. We've had a few times where we have been back home within the hour (which is always good because she tends to have things happen right before bedtime)
Well DH and K are enjoying their holiday time. They have been building a Lego fire station. The age on the box is 16+, but K is having a ball with it. DH has to do repair work every nap time and evening, but she is sitting there for 2 hours at a time helping him put it together!!

Arte: man, when leila gets herself dressed the styles are *interesting* lol. ATM she has 2 skirts on and stockings with gold sandals...
Cally: ahhhh another lego fan in the making i guess lol. lovin' the 2 hours of play though...:think:
AFM: well we had a shocker of a night last night. Marta has gotten her first cold (at 3 weeks of age :o). so the poor wee poppet was up all night (and so were we lol). absolutely shagged. luckily its sunny today so Leila is able to run outside and burn off energy...cause i have NONE lol.

G, I have Claratyne and Phenergan in the house. The Claratyne usually sorts out most problems and I save the Phenergan for bedtime if I need to use it. Phenergan tablets knock me out cold for hours, and it does the same to the kids, so I use it as a last resort.
Cally, we've got all the Thomas books too and they have just released new characters so we can keep adding to them. They are great little books for them. DS1 would be very jealous of the fire station. He has the small one but covets getting the new, bigger set.
Cass, poor little Marta, I hope the cold doesn't hang around long for her.
Well that's weird, I posted last night to say Happy Birthday to Luella - hope you had a lovely day, sweetie, even tho your mummy is pretending it's not your birthday at all LOL!

What a relief Arte about your BIL, although not good news that he has crashed like that. I hope he finds a better emotional space soon. Are you not familiar with Meg and Mog? I remember them from my primary school days, they were very popular even back then. "I wish...." sounds very very cute. :) And YAY for sunshine!!!! What did you plant in the garden?
G, that would've been scary hun. I keep polaramine in the cupboard (specifically in case of an allergic type reaction) but even a dose of dimetapp or demazin will help in a pinch. It's a bit of a worry since he puffed up so quickly, I'm not sure that's very typical of hayfever, is it? Might be worth getting another opinion.
We also have a hospital 15 mins away, although my dr has said, unless it's life threatening (ie child can't breathe) just keep on driving until you get to the Women and Children's :o.

Well I've pulled Missy E out of the new childcare centre, it has been an unmitigated disaster. She's been soooo clingy and anxious ever since she went. Her last booked day was today but we're having a girly day with DD1 together instead. Luckily a place has come up with our previous FDC lady so I hope that goes a bit better. I have been very worried about Missy E...she seems to want to wash her hands a lot when she is anxious. God please don't let this be the start of OCD, she is very anal about some other things like making sure doors are closed etc.
MD, I'm sure that she wouldn't be getting OCD :hug: Maybe the hand washing thing has come about from something that has been said or done at CC? Maybe they are really anal about the kids washing their hands and the way they do it might be a little negative so she has negative associations with it? A can be anal about things to the point where I ask DH if he could be on the spectrum, even though I know it's not. It usually comes about if he's had a bad day and everything has to be *just perfect*
MD, :hugs: I am sure it isn't OCD at this age? If you want a crazy theory on it then keep reading - when you were having chemo (= time of stress), there was an understandable germ-phobia at your house (= a lot of hand washing) - could it be that she learned to associate stress with the hand washing? Not that the origin helps any anyways. But W is also completely anal when he is tired, to the point that I have to have my hand resting in a particular manner with my fingers placed correctly etc That is great that you have a place with the old FDC lady, E loved it there didn't she? How is work going now?
I have never heard of Meg and Mog. Is the author Australian? We tended to use Kiwi books at primary school.
Ohhhhh, my garden! I have never had one before but I love it! Actually it is only 8 shrubs along a fence line but I like it - I planted a couple of colours of Boronias and Ericas, a mini manuka, a hebe or two and a couple of other little shrubs with pretty flowers. I also got a Clementis for climbing up the side of the deck - just need to put sides on the deck and I can plant it lol
Cally, that lego sounds very impressive!
The MCHN came today for W's 3yo check. He managed to actually do the eye test and had a perfect score which is great - I am worried that he has inherited my craptastic vision so I guess we will have regular checks. He has also put on a whopping 800g in the past year! The other day I noticed his pants were a bit short so I looked and he was wearing a pair of A's pants!!

Man, these terrible threes are pushing me to my limit. How do you negotiate or get a 3 year old to do what you want/need. Like..... get dressed, get in the car, go to bed, etc, etc, etc. She just pushes me every step of the way and it is so tiring...... is it just me, or anyone else?

MD: i think rather than OCD tendencies it is the age...i have found that the kids around Ls age are very particular. but if there is any mummy intuition going on mebbe keep an eye on it. i reckon arte might be onto something??
JM: i am subscribing to your question lol! i am finding it hard to know whether what L is doing is age or new baby related, but far out it is full on. my neighbour when her son turned three also morphed into a new kind of norti itms. pushing boundaries left, right and centre. this is what we are having ATM and it is so hard simply because i dont want to create a situation where even negative attention is at least attention if you get my drift. i guess i have to up the ante on positive reinforcement...like try to bring it to a new level??
Arte: we are also slowly building up the garden. have a vegie patch in now (well, just tomatoes and some eggplant atm) and have put in a raised herb garden. put in two trees for the girls (jacaranda and plum tree = yum).
oohhh we are bad. i havent done Ls 3 year check. actually i havent been to a MACH nurse since she was 8 months old :redface: the last one tried to have me admitted lol! now we are in a new area i guess i should go and check it out.
Trill, I think you're on the money with the handwashing at CC...they have a little child-size toilet complete with child-size hand basins, soap dispenser and paper towels, and the couple of times we visited she was very taken with this (in fact I'd say it was the thing she liked the most). Perhaps it was just a high-point in her crummy couple of days there?
Arte & Cass, not so sure about your germ-phobia theory as I mostly concentrated on keeping my hands clean rather than policing the rest of the family, mostly with discrete visits to the aqium gel pump in the kithen and not sink handwashing.
Arte, your little garden sounds loverly. I'm hoping to do some planting over the next couple of weeks, now that it seems we'll be able to use our spinklers again this year.
Cass you have reminded me it is time to get my pumpkins and tomatoes in.
JM, yes I feel like I am constantly negotiating/pushing and yeah sometimes dragging little Miss 3 through the daily routines. Worst is when she says she wants to do something then mucks about resisting the actual thing she wanted to do. I find it helps to whip through things as quickly as possible when she is cooperating, I have found there is often a very small window when she first gets up, if I can get her on & off the toilet and dressed & shoes and then straight into breakfast I can do all that in about 10 minutes but if I wait until later it can 45 minutes of chasing her around etc etc just to get ready to go out the door. I don't know if there is any way to get around it except to reward when they do the right thing.
Ange, Erin was like that, still IS like that LOL. Does my head in. She will fight me tooth and nail on most things and it is just personality more than anything else. The other two were not nearly as bad and A has his moments but nothing like Erin and I can usually beat him at his own game LOL. You just have to constantly be on your toes thinking of ways to circumvent problems. I found giving options was better than being told what to do. So when getting her dressed for example, I would get two outfits and ask her - this one or that one? etc and let her choose. That way you are happy knowing that she is still doing what you want because you chose the options, but she will be happy because she thinks she's pulled one over you ;)
MD, whenever we went to drop off or pick P up from preschool last year, the bathroom was always the first place he'd go because everything was at his level and he would be turning taps on and pumping soap left right and centre ROFL.
YEp Noah loves the handwashing sinks at kindy too... i think they like that it is all their level? I wouldnt think it is OCD stuff this early (have you got it in the family???) - just that 3 yr olds are v particular. N can be like that and I dont think it is his natural personality - he is morelike me... we have created so many rituals in our household though that i sometimes worry both kids would freak it if i chgd them (we have special songs we sing before showers as an example, then we chase both the nudies around the house etc etc)....of we didnt do that i wonder what would happen...
sounds like a few of us ae having a rough time on the discipline etc... lots of boundary pushing here and i find he is worst to me - lots of 'i dont like you', 'i am going to push you' etc etc etc... its hard going sometimes isnt it... and it is hard to know what to go hard about and what isnt - i just also worry sometimes that N is a little spoilt too.... aaah the dilemmas of parenting theselittle people hey....
what else is good to plant at this time of yr ladies (i am thinking in pots)... we did some cherry tomslast weekend, would love to plant a few other things w the boys

K is a major fan of the sinks at kindy. Apparently she is their best handwasher and helps the other children. Have to drag her to the sink to wash them at home though.
DH has really noticed these holidays the difference between 3 and last holidays. She wants to do everything herself or nothing at all (except Lego).

It is a little comforting to heart we are not alone. Trill i always give her two choices, but i think she's onto me! She now says she doesn't want either. :wall:
Hoping the phase passes, she has been MUCH better today, only a couple of meltdowns, yesterday it was every half hour i think, by bed time i just about lost it, so locked myself in my room with a book and left DH to sort them out! :o
jm: this morning was meltdown after meltdown too...i shamefully admit feeling relieved when i dropped her at kindy...
i have taken to asking what is really upsetting her, and surprisingly it's not always the thing she is cranky at at that time, but something that may of upset her earlier. she likes talking about it and seems to respond pretty well...but the environment has to be right (ie calm and one on one with no conflict or demand).
soap pumping is Ls fav sport ATM. stuff the water, just the soap lol.
ohhh, and something gross to leave you all with...L has started doing poos on the toilet...but doesnt let us know...and does her own wiping...whole roll + poo smears = scary toilet bowl and even scarier toddler :rofl:
Cass both yuck and WTG on the poo's lol. L still wont poo on the toilet.
JM my L sounds so much like your L. Wish I could offer some advice but I am in the same boat lol.
L isn't overly fussed on the sink, though CC tell me he likes to show the new kids how to dispense the soap and dry their hands with the paper towel.
MP we have bought some pots for the kids to plant out too. We haven't decided what will go in them yet though. L loves to water the garden so I think he will get a kick out of watching the plants grow, especially if they are edible.
AFM not much going on here. Getting ready for an early first birthday party for Z this weekend so lots of family coming up. I really should be cleaning up or something productive but it feels like forever since I had some computer time which wasn't work related.
