Well there ya go. Bros before ho's. Ya learn something new every day. Not that the concept carries much weight in this household on account of me being the centre of his universe. Just the way it should be. :)
DD is already blooming later than her nearest-aged friend, but there again she is lot leaner and hasn't reached the magic weight yet (47 kg or something). I didn't get my period until um, woulda been grade 10 I think. But i was pretty skinny too. haha thems were the days.
Arte, I don't wear a ring either (mostly due to not having them resized) and I still have my "maiden" name...so I often see all sorts of judgements flickering across people's faces, I love that they have no idea that I've been married for nearly 20 years. Serves em right for jumping to conclusions LOL. BUT at least I don't take after my mother who still goes by her 2nd husband's name despite the fact that she divorced him THIRTY years ago and that according to her religion the marriage wasn't even recognised in her church :o. My relationship with DH is worth more than all the false respectability in the world.
Phillip Island sounds fantastic MP. So sorry your DH is having probs with his back - full commisserations on the roid rages. Just try to be calm and remember it's not him, it's the hormones (prolly the only time you'll ever get to say that about him LOL).

MP: big phat :hug: babe. sounds like it's been a rotten few weeks. if it's work that has been full on i hope that you get some reprieve soon. so hard though when there are so many deadlines that need meeting. here's to a few relaxing weeks soon so that you get a bit of well deserved MP time :comfort:

hmmm i was just about to turn 14 when i got mine. and oh boy isn't that a story...basically i got them when i was visiting my Oma and Opa one weekend. i finally told Oma (like a day after it had started) and she was sooo excited and raced out to tell Opa (I was mortified!!). then, being that she hadnt had a period in like YEARS (hysterectomy when she was quite young...ie pre-menopausal). she took me to a chemist....couldnt find the pads etc...so went up to the YOUNG teenage boy working behind the counter and in her loud (slightly deaf) thick dutch accent asked the boy where the sanitary wear was....i was BRIGHT red with embarrasment as it was soooo obvious that it wasnt for her bahahahaha :redface:. the boy of course had no idea what sanitary wear was so Oma had to explain it all..O.M.G.

Arte: i reckon people still look for the ring too. i have noticed it because i dont have DHs last name...i like mine too much lol. so they automatically look at the finger assuming that if i dont have his name that i mustnt be married lol. ahhh assumptions.
gotta go, Dh is back and is in a rotten mood tonight. man boys know how to get moody. i am at my wits end and had to totally reprimand him in front of Leila today. so like a total taboo, but he was getting ridiculous...talk about teenage mood swings lol.

cass- my dh is soooooo moody atm. it's unbelievable! he's had a bit of a tiff with the love of his life (his boat).
soooooo looks like i might be allowed to get a new kitty cat for my b'day. yah!!! advice from all you animal lovers- do you think KItKat would prefer another female (she's a girl) or a male playmate. should i get a kitten or a young cat? (she's about 10 months old)....i'm taking the kids to the shelter tomorrow so wish me luck, i think i'll be in tears and want to bring every single animal there home, but you gotta do what you gotta do. i've never had a rescue cat before so i'm a bit nervous.

Don't get a boy cat, they tend to spray even after they've been neutered. Also I would get a girl because I'm a big fan of tortoiseshells and 90% of them are female :) First of all think about whether you want a long or short hair. Long hair = very cute but blerk lots of extra hair on the furniture + extra work brushing & cleaning poo off their bums if they get sick. Spend a bit of time choosing...Basically you want to get the kittycat that's got a bit of personality, but not the first one that comes to you (they're probably too dominant) but not one that ignores you either. One that's friendly without being aggressive. If you kind of squint your eyes closed, cats will sort of squint back - it's friendly body language and will attract a friendly response. That's the sum total of my pussy-choosing-advice.

I am a fan of the tortiseshells too. Girl cats can be more independent - all my really cuddly cats have been boys. Make sure your boys have a cuddle - I think that is the acid test for any cat moving to a house with two small kids.

G, I have absolutely ZERO knowledge of cats LOL so I'm no help at all
I hardly wear my rings now. Just can't be bothered really but if I am going anywhere out of town I wear them, just not locally. Everyone around here knows I'm married but I kwim about getting looks, especially once you do have a few kids.

G: hmmmm i cant vouch either way for a boy or a girl....i love them both but they are very different in terms of behaviours. boy cats are, like Arte mentioned, really cuddly and loving, BUT they do tend to get into trouble a bit more as their territory is much wider...and let's face it they just aren't as bright lol (for example my cat cassius got stuck up a tree for 3 days and DH had to climb up and get him down :rolleyes:). Girl cats are much 'safer' in that their territory is much better defined and smaller. but i have found that they dont have the same amount of cuddliness, they are a bit more independent. Also FWIW we never had a problem with our boys spraying...but our girl on the other hand :o.
i second MD on the eye squinting...it's a sign of love and friendliness. i'd be using that as my test too...a slow blink basically lol.
JM: goodluck for poo in the pot. have done it a couple of times and never got less confronting lol.

I have only had the one puss - she is very smoochy - but also independent - didn't know boy cats were different that way...but I s'pose it figures they would need to wedge themselves in the limelight all the time...seems to be a universal male trait across all species :rofl: I know BFC (boy doggie) will see Puss getting a cuddle and he will come over and literally squeeze himself his fat little body into the 1 cm gap between myself and the cat LOL.
Arte, my kids use DH's last name as their last name, but have my name on their birth cert so if they want to they can use it later. So for Missy E, she is E... H... G(myname) W(DH's name). But she is known as E... W....

omg that is soooo funny about the eye squinting! KitKat does that to me all the time, i had no idea what it meant or that it was a cat trait- i thought it was just a KitKat-ism iykwim?
well i'm def going for a short hair and dh is a big fan of the tortioseshell (sp) so i will be keeping my eye out for one of them. sounds like a female might be best but i seem to want to rescue a little boy (prob cos i'm a mother of boys). i'm leaving jimmy with dad cos he's an absolute handfull atm and taking lewis as my kitty tester.

yes i know a cat is not a dog substitute but when you have a dh like mine, sometimes you just have to take what you can LOL dh has declared himself a 'cat person' after never even patting a cat before KitKat. now she sits on his lap at night...very strange.
my kids had dh's surname before we got married but now i have the same one too. it's an ok surname but most people pronounce it wrong which annoys me. it used to have a 'van den' in front of it which i think sounds much more classy and i keep asking family members if we can reinstate it! LOL

hi gals - man how do you all have time for pets???? dontlet my boys hear you on that one... we are years off that here!!!
Ginger - i stayed at silverwater - its gorgeous (in san remo so just before the island). nice faclities for kids too - indoor and outdoor pool, playground, big oval etc. kids meals are good (i got them delivered a few times) and lovely apartments.
my boss also recommended a great place on the way for scones (YUM) and they have a petting zoo, milking cows etc. a good stop off on the drive.
JM - how long you here for? lets arrange a catch up when you have stopped your 'donations'.

MP: we are wanting to visit PI sometime this summer...will have to ask you closer to that for the place that you stayed at!
Arte: i forgot to answer...our girls have a double barrel surname with DHs surname first then mine. We needed to have DHs name first so that they could get the italian citizenship. for some reason the name needs to be the first last name :dunno:.
there was no way that i was giving up my last name or not have my children use it, simply because it is a name with alot of history and connection to impressive ancestors and it keeps it easy for the dutch authorities to keep check on us (every now and then they send us stuff in relation to our ancestors etc).

Ginger - good luck with the pussy cat choosing. We just have one, a girl. She is pretty friendly, poor thing though probably doesn't get as much attention as she would like, although she certainly gets a lot of biccies from Miss K. My parents had two boy cats and they were super smoochy. Never had a problem with them spraying (except once on their friends Lexus when we were all out the front saying goodbye!)
MP - hope things calm down for you at work soon. It's been a bit like that lately for me too, with not much sign of it letting up. Have a few things here I want to get through this afternoon and tomorrow while I'm home. Your little break sounds lovely, hope DH is feeling better soon. My DH did something to his back last weekend and he was terrible to be with (and that was just a muscular thing)
We all have the same surname in our house. And I've never (ever) taken my wedding ring off. Mum hasn't either and they hit 40 years next month.
All good here. DD has decided that she doesn't like sleeping anymore and has had a few nights still awake at 9:00 (DH was asleep before her). She is a big fan of the spare room and has been moving herself in there a few times because she thinks she gets nightmares in her bed so we'll see how it goes next time we have visitors. We've started gymnastics and back into swimming too - unfortunately both on the same day (not how I would have liked it) so Tuesdays are pretty full on down here.
Is everyone else having crazy weather? It was super hot (like 27 - which seems so hot after winter) on Sunday and today I am contemplating turning the heater on while I lie on the couch!

cat hunt a total success. sorry md but i got a little boy. he is only 8 weeks old and a total spunk. lewis fell completely in love with him and the same back. he is getting desexed tomorrow and then we should be able to pick him up on saturday. his pg mum was left by tenants (how bloody cruel) and she was taken in by a lovely family. she had her babies and they have been raised in a household with kids, dogs and other cats. the family decided to keep the mum cos they loved her so much and one of the kittens and brought the rest into the shelter. he is a short hair tabby so exactly what dh wanted. now we have to think of a name!
