hi girls!
well the animals are revolutionised, the bedding has been put through the hottest cycle...man, it's like having nits lol!
Arte: that is an awesome result! good one to get as a goodbye to 2010 i reckon...love finishing on a high note!

AFM: well we are just sitting here waiting for the deluge. i have cleared the yard and my clue that it might actually heavy rain as they are warning is that my girl cat is inside slightly stressed. it's so dark wehave lights on!
DH has told me that he is finding fleas in the garden beds!!! arghhh! how do i deal with that??? what do i do??? i need your expert advice! i am starting to go bonkers!
They ca live in gardens I think Cass. No idea how you deal with it, though if they don't have a host they shouldnt' live too long. But I may have no idea.
Maybe sprinkle some flea powder around the garden beds? Is he sure they are fleas and not ticks or something else though? Ticks have been really bad this year.

G, don't worry about him not sitting on the mat as soon as he's told to. Its normal and the teachers have their ways of convincing them to do it. Plus they wont be expecting much in the first few weeks in terms of compliance LOL. I actually put on A's enrollment form that he's a non-conformist LOL just so they were aware to start with, but since I did the enrollment, he's really matured so it may not be a problem come Feb next year.
Cass, you can buy spray designed for use on floors/ground etc, but if it's a widespread area involved, it might be best to contact a professional pest controller, getting it done once the right way might save you from many successive generations of hatchings over months/years to come, and result in smaller net amount of chemicals being used.
PS also talk to your vet because apparently some of the spot-on treatments have a residual effect in the animal's environment too (ie killing flea/eggs where they shed) so if the problem's bad you might need that sort.
Cass, I was told that they love to live in soft soil eg after earthworks. The area I lived in in Brisbane was apparently really bad for fleas because of all the new subdivision suburbs nearby. They can live quite happily in the dirt, I would agree with MD and contact a pest controller. I could ask my father if you want. Also for inside, if they are biting you at night you can put a bowl of warm water on the floor with some dish washing detergent in it and they will jump into the water.

cass- sorry i don't know anything about the flea situation but i can tell you that the storm has hit here now and the rain is very full -on!

having dinner with one of the girls from my mothers group tonight that i sort of had a small falling out with. she initiated it so i'm assuming she wants to be friends again sort of thing? i actually really like her one on one, it's just the whole group situation that has me baffled so i guess i'll see what happens

ETA G, A can't say his name properly either, it comes out as Al-ter but that is just age appropriate because of the sounds in it. Perhaps try to role play with him and ask him what is name is? Sounds like she is definitely trying to extend the olive branch to you doesn't it?
G, L is one of the last letters that they learn to pronounce. W can say everything else but still doesn't say 'l' properly. I was worried he had some sort of speech impediment so I googled lol. Don't worry about it, he will get there.

We had the kindy Christmas party today. It was dress up and the only thing W wanted to be was a snail lol. So I made them little snail outfits. It was very good, they had a bouncy castle and a little train and a fantastic spread of foods. A has been asleep in the car for 2.5 hours so far!
G, I have just realised why you are always worried about kids near water! W was and still is a cautious kid by nature, he would never go further than the waters edge but OMG Miss A is neck deep before I am even out of the car! She is quick and has no fear! All the things we took for granted because W would never do them are now suddenly dangerous. She has to be within arms reach at the beach or river. The other day she went for a ride on mums 16hand horse with a massive smile on her face - W would hardly go near it for a pat. Seriously, a bit of fear would be healthy!
trill- we've done the role playing heaps of times but he won't even attempt to say it. i guess it will just come in time...
arte- my kids are absolutely fearless and cannot be trusted near anything- water, roads, animals, playgrounds. they will jump off anything, climb anything. i feel like the parent of one of those guys off jackass or something.
Trill, I missed your original Barbara reference? I *love* Barbara (having worked in banking)...but for a long time I was convinced she was a dude in drag. :rofl: Until I saw her on some TV show that I don't normally watch. Then I was bouncing up and down excitedly saying to DH - OMG Barbara's a woman, she's on TV (and he had nooooooo idea what I was talking about LOL).
ROFL MD, I love her other work too, she is so deadpan when she does it too. The show they used to have on ch9 a few years back did a skit of All Saints and she was Von and OMG she nailed it. The bankworld thing is my location :)
Arte, those costumes look great. E was our no fear kid. Even though P and A could/can be a massive handful, they had nothing on E and back when she was a toddler we used to do a heap of water skiing and it was a PITA to have to take her because we always had to be on the look out for her. But even though she was like that when out, she never ever worried about water at home and never once went anywhere near the dam.
i think it will be a pest control job :(. thanks girls for the tips! they are jumping all through the garden...
G: goodluck tonight, i hope that it is a fun night xx (hope the storm wasnt too bad for too long. we got ALOT of rain and it just isnt stopping...poor Leila is beside herself with boredom poor wee poppet).
Arte: omg! what a cool christmas party! We had ours yesterday too. santa made an appearance and we had a chick in a fairy costume singing some songs. the food was alright, but we all supplied a plate, and because of all the allergy restrictions it was basically a variety of hommous and rice crackers :rofl:
AFM: we just ordered a freedom kitchen :o. it's going to be sooo nice! we also got 40% off hahahaha! they had a sale on up in brisbane and the cabinets we want didnt sell so instead of a $11000 one we got it for $6900! still loads of cash, but on par with kitset kitchens...and TBH the finish on the freedom ones is much nicer (thicker cupboards and lifetime warranties etc). soooo excited :dance:
oh wow! i love freedom kitchens! which one is it? i want to look it up!
the storm has passed here now. dh has come home early and is such a PITA clomping around the house with his big boots on while the kids are asleep. this is my bb time man! stop messing with my routine!
he's trying to decide on paint colours for our house. anyone know of a nice exterior colour for weatherboards?
Cass, we supplied a plate - one treat and one healthy - but there was a heap of things and so much variety! I went for the time tested fairy bread and sausage rolls. We only have a nut restriction at our kindy so that makes it much easier. Santa came via an ambulance because the local ambo is the husband of the head teacher - small town perks lol. The kitchen sounds nice. What colour? We should do something about our kitchen soon - A was opening cupboards today and one came off its hinges and hit her in the head!
I think A is going to be a dare devil kid, the kind I was glad I didn't have when you guys were telling horror stories lol.
Is everyone still there or have some of you floated away? I note my old stomping ground in Queanbeyan is all under water today, river rose 3 meters in 3 hours. Unbelievable!

First day of school hols tomorrow and we are scrambling to cover the whole SEVEN weeks...DH has had to take some long service leave and I've had to purchase annual leave and DD will got to vacation care a few times and we'll just get through with a day to spare. Crazy. DH has always had heaps of annual leave ever since I've known him, but all those absences last year finally drained the vault dry.
Arte, the snail costumes were just adorable! You're very clever (but we all knew that already).
Far out, school holidays already! We still have next week to go and they go back on 25th Jan so only 5 weeks here. 7 weeks is a big stretch when both parents are working!

Every ones been sick again here, I have finally caught the kids germs and feel horrid. Thankfully we are on day two with no rain so I am enjoying the warm (hot) sun. Christmas shopping is done bar one small thing and I am almost done wrapping. I have a few things on layby in Sydney so will have more wrapping to do when I get to mums. Are you all ready for Christmas?
