Talked to his teacher again today about the ball thing. She has talked to him about it and neither of us can figure out if it is really a problem. He isn't upset at all about it, just chats about it casually. IDK. She is keeping an eye on him in the playground JIC.
Big day of shifting furniture. I have a horrible head cold and now my body aches from all the lifting and hauling but it looks pretty good.
Lost the first tooth today - she managed to eat it with a piece of watermelon so we've had to write a letter to the tooth fairy. One pretty excited little girl!
Arte - Icky head colds. I think we're all getting one here too, DH and I have had sore throats the last few days.
First tooth!! How exciting. W can't wait for his to fall out, he heard from a friend that the tooth fairy is paying $1 per tooth these days!
I hope he keeps them for ages yet - for me the tooth gaps are the defining feature between little kids and big kids.
I took lots of close ups of her face on the weekend with all the teeth in there when I realised it was imminent. They lose so much cuteness when those massive new teeth come in!

I think we too have been fighting off a lurgy. Miss M and Miss E have runny noses and i have the slighest discomfort in my throat. but today i feel considerable worse...so no doubt it is kicking in. boo.
AFM: BIG NEWS! after a whole year I am finally getting my hair cut again :lol: i know, not earth moving information but for me it is HUGE. of course i have a grumpy unwell 4 month old with me: but hey! boob fixes all right? right?!
now to decide in the next half hour what style lol.
Arte, yay for your new furniture!! How good it feels. I'm desperate for a new lounge suite. I hope W's playground issue is all sorted out. It's hard to judge sometimes how much of it is their perception vs how much is something that really happened, but the important thing here is that he feels uncomfortable so whatever the cause, it needs to be looked at.

Busy, busy, busy here. Trying - as always - to whip this household into shape. DH is away which is a bummer. Shrinks my disposible time, not enough hours in the day. Miss E hit the Wall of Absolute Revoltingness last weekend, I think she was just getting overloaded/overtired from school, then we had one of those unavoidably busy weekends. But she cracked a case of conjunkyeteis on Mon, so we scored a free day at home, which helped enormously. I've also made some cunning tweaks to the evening routine, to eliminating the procrastinopportunities. So she's been getting to bed a little earlier. Not a lot earlier (with DH away I don't get home from work early enough) but it's making a difference.
Busy here too. We went down to the beach for the weekend. We were going to go on Thursday but of course my cat did a disappearing act but she turned up again so we left on Saturday morning. Good to catch up with my mum and stepfather, then my granddad and then my two cousins that I spent heaps of time with growing up. They have three girls between them and the youngest two are similar in age to my girls and they all play so wonderfully together now. They are the only cousins that my kids will have anywhere near them in age so it is nice for them all to spend time together.
MD, is your DH away for long? Good idea to minimise muck around time, I know when I am flying solo I get into the trap of everything dragging out.
Cass, how is your new hair cut?
So tired. Stayed up way too late over the weekend and Miss E decided to get up to go to the toilet at 6am today and that was apparently a good enough time to be up for the day. I didn't agree but there wasn't much I could do about it. Her toilet training is going not too bad for such a little girl. She is 100% for poo but has anything from 1-3 wee accidents in a day. Not pushing it much because she is only 17 months old and really anything at that age is a bonus!
Miss E is doing very well with her TT. Are the wee accidents just because she is easily distracted because so young do you think?
I'm with you on the tired. Yesterday morning I had to go to the loo before 5 and after 20 minutes left our bed and moved to the spare room as I just couldn't get comfy. Had only just dropped off (at 6) when DD came in because her doona looked like it had eyes and was scaring her. So no more sleep. Thankfully it was a weekend so I had a nanna nap at 10 for a couple of hours.
Feeling really flat at the moment. Just feel like I am in this total rut. Not helped by the fact I can't do anything because my ankle/Achilles is sore and I am banned from exercising for three weeks, plus I have stitches in my elbows from mole removals. My job has been on the line for the last 3 months, found out this morning I stilll have it, but there is a part of me that would have been fine with being there for school pick up and helping out with maths each week. And my sleeping has gone to crap again since DH has been back at work. Think I need a break. Might try and persuade DH for a few days away next school holidays. His job has been confirmed (was up in the air last year) so we should do something to celebrate.
That sucks Cally. Must have been very stressful having both jobs up in the air! I hope you can catch up on some sleep and get away for a bit. Any plans for Easter?

oh cally :hug: ouchies all round :( and woah to moles needing stitches...never thought of that! i have two that i want gone (thankfully not for dodgy sun reasons but cosmetic) and have been putting it off...
I had no idea your job was up in the air. that really really sucks. my mum has been going through the same with all the QLD public service shennanigans. thankfully she kept hers but it was really stressful for about a year there. not much to build employee confidence at all.
i vote for a break too! highly recommend Fiji in winter :)
Arte: i am so impressed by Miss E! man, Miss M is a miss-wee-in-your-knickers extraordinaire. she refuses to wear a nappy but just goes and does a wee and poo wherever. really frustrating.

Poor Miss L has no chances to procrastinate at bed time lol. i run a military precision exercise on that front...i love the evenings to myself too much ATM. although she was up later than usual the other night to watch the 'guardians of ga'hoole' or whatever the name of it was. she has been an owlette ever since lol.
AFM: well, the hairdo is a doozer. so much for anticipation :( it is so boring and not what i asked for that i am a bit devastated. also cost me $200!!!! i wanted a few foils to brighten it up for winter...the colour is nice and all but just is a waste with such a boring haircut. never, ever take your baby with you - they just assume you only want a 'mum cut'.
Cass, total bummer about the haircut. A friend of mine once got a cut at an expensive place she had waited ages to get an appointment with and they gave her a mullet! And charged her a couple of hundred to do it. She was in tears while the hairdresser was finishing the cut and when she was asked if she liked it she could only sob lol
Hope you get some sort of breakthrough with M's toilet training soon. It is super frustrating when they know what to do and just won't do it!
Miss E is very impressive. She is like a mini 2 year old - learning colours, 3-4 word sentences etc. She is way ahead of where W was at this age.
Arte - you bought a beach house! How far away is it? Will you be able to get away often? Cool.

Job is sort of confirmed - our region has undergone a restructure, so I am confirmed in the new structure. But our division as a whole is also under a review - they were supposed to tell us in September last year if we are remaining as is, being downsized, or getting rid of us altogether. Still no word though.
Cally, that can't be good for work place moral. Beach house is two hours away near my family. Plan is to get down there every couple of months and to list it as a holiday rental to pay some of the mortgage. It is tiny but it has 3 little bedrooms and is about 100m from the beach walkway. We had to do something with our cash now that our house is sold or we would fritter it away on nothing.
WOW Arte! A beach house! I would love to own something like that so we could just take off for a bit without the ordeal of having to book somewhere to stay. How is W going with the school stuff that's going on?

MD, how's things my love? There are some days when I know A would be much better if only he would have a sleep, but he flat out refuses to. So I make sure there are a lot of early bedtimes to try to deal with it.
Cass, that's just not cool about the hair. I would be going back and complaining about it. that's far too much money to spend to end up with something you are not happy with.
Absolutely flat out here and starting to feel like everything's about to come crashing down. Work is great, Uni will be fine, but it's the other committee's that I'm on that have me feeling sick with dread about how I will manage it all. Had I known last year that I would end up with a job this year I wouldn't have stayed involved. there is no way I can get out of them now until the end of the year so i will just have to try to delegate as much as i can.

Yep, DH was away for nearly 2 weeks. TBH the evening routine was dragging out pretty badly before he even left - hangover after the holidays when the schedule was more relaxed. Compounded by flying solo. Anyway, we've roped it back in now and things are going smoother.
Cally :hug: That must've been tough having that hanging over your jobs. Do you need to take a week's leave RIGHT NOW just to chill out and potter? I did that a couple of weeks ago, I'm so glad I did. It gave me space to let the tightly wound tendrils to unwind. Are you working fulltime? Could you have your cake and eat it too by switching to parttime hours so you're still getting $$ but also able to do the reading and the pickups some days?
Cass- bummer on your do. Lacklustre! I hear you on the mumsy haircuts... I make sure I utter the word FUNKY at least once every time I'm at the hairdressers so it takes hold and flourishes in her hairstyling subconscious. LOL. At least you've got the colour - could you go back and complain - maybe they could chop a bit more out and funk it up for you?
So how are the kidlets all going at school? I can't believe it's nearly halfway through the first term! E is settling in but I do still worry about her anxious and perfectionist tendencies. Also thinking I might need to drag her along to the speechie - she's got a pronounced lisp and she's having trouble saying "th" and "the" when she's doing her reading.
ETA - Trill - missed you there! I have a concept that I use frequently that i call "capacity" (which is changeable). At times, we all have less "capacity" in our lives for all those extras, and that's when we have to scale back in order to preserve the smooth running of the more important functions. So I would be challenging the idea that you can't scale back on any of those other commitments. Write them all down mind map style with all the crazy possibilities. Even if you can only slide one or two things sideways, it will help.
MD - Our speechie said the 'th' sound doesn't happen until they're about 7. With the lisp, is her tongue coming out between her teeth when she says 's' sounds? It should stay behind her teeth - google speech pathology s sounds and you should come up with a bunch of words that you could go through with her, reminding her to shut the gate (ie her teeth) with that sound so her tongue stays behind her teeth. That was something we had to practice.
I've got today off - not sure a migraine helps with unwinding though...... Hopefully the super fancy medication kicks in shortly.
Trill, hearing you on the over committed feeling! Somehow for an unemployed person I seem to have stacked my plate pretty full with stuff I don't get paid for. I feel like I am running around like a headless chook atm.
W seems fine at school, no further issues. Not sure if it was anything now.
MD, oddly enough, since he has always been against the grain, W's perfectionism and anxiety have lessened/disappeared since school started.
Guess I should go and fill in a thousand census forms :( Can't be bothered.
Arte I'm shocked you're not more enthused about the CENSUS!!?! LOL They've only kept you waiting an extra 2 years for it and all. Can you do it online? We had online forms last time - much quicker and easier.
Cally - I hope your migraine subsided. Such an awful feeling. Thanks for that info re the speech - I'd thought I'd heard something similar. I'm just keen to get it seen to because it's bothering her, plus she's always had a tongue thrust and family history of speech difficulties on top of that (not me, I have nooooo problems talking LOL).
Taking myself a day off tomorrow. Which will all be sweet and nice until Fri when I have to go into work on my usual day off. Buy now, pay later LOL.
MD: i know right?!!! these kids are totally proper schoolkids now! I dropped Miss L off today and she is just so part of the culture and group now...knows where to go, just gives me a quick goodbye and is totally in her element. it feels really weird: i am super proud of her but also realising that she is growing up (like today she wanted to look like she was walking to school all by herself so tried to keep ahead of me or well behind me lol).
as the for the cut...i just dont have the balls to ask them to fix it :redface: i think because it is something that i just do so rarely and dont have alot of confidence with (ie spending money on moi!).
Arte: we can be headless chooks together :lol: i somehow fill my days up and before I know it it's 6pm and i am still wondering what to cook for dinner hahaha.

Cass, yeah, it's the footy club and then the actual football league's netball executive. I just need to get through this year - once I have finished study life will be so much less complicated. the job is as a teacher's aide at the kid's school and it's from 9.15 to 12.15 Monday, tuesday, wednesday and friday. So I just go home most days and the kids come home as normal on the bus.
MD so what are your plans for your day off? I hope there is time for treating yourself planned at some point.
...i do hope that when you finish from the TA job that you go past your kids classroom windows doing the 'moonwalk' or other such happy dance hahahaha...oh man i have a wicked mind lol.:

:rofl: no I don't do that. but sometimes it's tempting to run past the windows of the 5/6 classes and yell WOOHOO! HOME TIME! :lol: more as a joke for the teachers than the kids LOL. The 5/6 teachers have some shocking kids this year and most days you are exhausted before you even get to recess. But on monday I start my prac there at the school, so i will be there all day then. It's a super awesome deal for me - they are letting my do my TA work in the morning and then I just go onto my prac class in the afternoon. And I get paid for it! I'm also on E's class which will be interesting. I joked that I should arrange a class excursion to our house to make her clean her room :lol: If she refuses i can send her to the principal.
Trill, good luck with your prac. I'm sure you will shine. LOL @ your proposed class excursion. Potential embarrassment aside, what do your kids think of having you at school?
Thurs - great day off, thanks. I took in a session at Writers' Week - not sure if that counts as treating myself (LOL) but it made me pretty happy. Pay-up time tomorrow, though!
they think it's awesome MD. Especially E because I will be in her class. But by golly she has some little *darlings* in her class. So it will be a challenge. But I know if I can handle them, I will more than likely get a teaching position there. At the very least i will get a lot of casual work.

Yep the writer's session was fantastic. I actually had a whole day last week at a forum for writers, a couple of big names were there (Isobelle Carmody, for eg). Amazing when you hear someone like that talking and you realise that your own brain works just like theirs does and suddenly you're not the only weird person in the room, there's a whole room full of weird and it's a good quality to have.
Payback day wasn't too bad. I worked a shorter day for starters and then I was doing the bit of my job that I really like. So all good there. Long weekend here. Girls are going to their aunty's tonight so that we can have some mummy & daddy time. woohoooo! It's a bit overdue, really.
Speaking of long weekends, Easter's starting to loom ahead of us. I'm feeling like getting crafty with it. E is at that age now where she's loving the arty stuff. We've decorated blown eggs in years gone by but they are so impermanent. So I found some papier mache eggs at Lincraft, I'll put a couple of base coats of paint on them, then we can decorate those.
MD, the little darlings are both girls AND boys LOL. kids who just do not want to be at school mostly. They aren't dumb by a long shot, but they sure are good at pretending they are.
that sounds like an awesome workshop. Isobelle Carmody is E's fave author atm - she's ploughing her way through the Obernewtyn series. Dh and I are long overdue for a night together too. We had the Australia day thing, but that's different to spending time alone together. There is an indian restaurant we want to go to so we're aiming for that during the school holidays.
Easter, totally not ready for it. I hate early easters. Not sure if we'll attempt anything fun or not yet but A is a lot more interested in that sort of thing now since he's been at school so I'll see how we go.
Easter - that means Easter hat parades. I hope they make them at school, I'm so not good at crafty things.
I have never in my life heard of an Easter hat parade! Is that a thing? lol, I have no idea about tradition - my mum didn't roll that way.
MD, beach house is little, very little lol. It is at the beach that we always stay at, two hours from here but close to my family and a reasonable city. Settlement should be just before easter all going well.
So obviously if all goes to plan, we will be at the beach house for Easter. Might not happen by then though, the bank is being a PITA.
Don't know what I will do with the kids for easter. I saw Spotlight had a whole heap of baskets and eggs for decorating but that is more clutter as far as I can see. I have some easter themed lollipop molds so we might melt some chocolate and make those. A couple of years back I did them wrapped in cellophane and did a hunt with them. Actually that might be fun with the cousins if we are down there….
Apparently it's a thing. I dunno what that's about. Maybe it started way back when getting a new hat to wear to church on Sunday was the highlight of the social year (and pretty much the lofty heights to which a young girl might hope to aspire)?? But dang it's cute. When I worked at the call centre, the creche kiddies paraded around the building wearing their hats - awwwww!
The plan with our papier mache eggs is to lacquer them when we're finished and they can become the ones that get hidden and found (over and over and over again) LOL. The lollipop moulds sound like a great idea.

I'm ready for it to be autumn now. It's been a stinker here this week - not helped by having an out-and-about weekend - seemed like every second place we stepped into either didn't have aircon or the aircon wasn't working. What is with that??!

bbl...just got back from camping so have the inglorious task of cleaning out sand from all the bags etc for the next few days...
Our school does the easter hat parade with the infants grades (kinder to year 2) but they make their hats at school. It's really cute. |they make a big thing of it and have a picnic and easter egg hunt in the park near the school.

yeah MD, they are her 'holiday books' that she reads during the holidays because they slow her right down, which was kinda the idea LOL. I just cannot keep books up to these kids atm.
OMG Trill that is awesome (not being able to keep up the book supply)! LOL. I have the opposite problem with DD1, she starts umpteen different books and doesn't really persist with any of them :wall:. Despite raving about how good they are or how highly recommended they are :wall:. Not a trait inherited from her mother, that's for sure.
Cass, you have just identified the very reason we are not a regular camping family. Too much admin. LOL
LOl MD on the camping admin. It's usually a holiday for everyone BUT me, and somehow my workload mysteriously triples...
I'm not big on the whole load up/unload aspect of camping. Or the crappy bed and communal toilet situation. I half expected to break out in weird foot and bum diseases after our caravan trip after using all the public toilets and showers. One of the toilets was a long drop that smelt so bad I nearly passed out from holding my breath rather than inhaling the foul stench. It was so gross it was actually better to pee in the bushes :(
I went to pick W up today and had a chat to his teacher. They haven't done much maths yet but for the unit they are doing atm he is on Level 4, which is the level expected at the end of Year 2. The teacher seems to be handling him well and he is happy. While I was talking to the teacher, W went to get his bike and must have been on autopilot and rode home, then realised we were still at school so he came biking back - no shoes, no helmet and right past the principal lmao.
I won a guess the jellybean competition. I will go and pick up my prize tomorrow :)
Is it the whole jar of jellybeans? I hope they're good ones, I remember my Dad coming home with a tin of paint and a tin of jellybeans once (some promotion the paint company was doing) and they were absolutely disgusting ones.
Camping is so not me. Absolutely no appeal. I have enough trouble sleeping on my fancy mattress in my room, I'd have no hope on a air bed thing. DD and DH go camping in the backyard - I like those nights, bed to myself and he's in with her from before 8:00 so I get to watch my shows on TV.
I won a drink bottle, a piggy bank and a packet of (brand name) jelly beans.
Cally, you have made me feel better about one of those things that hang around and irk you for ages - years ago I bought some paint and the next day I realised if I had got the other brand I would have got a couple of tins of jellybeans. It has always bothered me that I missed out lol, but if they were the gross ones then I can probably let it go.
Swimming sports today and now swimming is over!! Yay!! With school swimming 4 days a week as well as swim club 2x evenings it added up to a crap load of wet towels.
