    Hey Christy,

AF retuned for me almost 5 months after DD was born (about 3 weeks before our wedding!!) I had lost my milk after 3 months? i think.

Before DD, my periods were the same as yours, painful, heavy and highly irregular. When they returned they were spot on 28 days, which lasted for a couple of years. They are now somewhere around 24 - 29 days, still much better than pre-baby.

It's funny, when I was about 16/17, my doctor told me the only other thing he could suggest to me to stop the problem periods i was having, was to get pregnant. He said for some women after having a baby, their periods get less painful, lighter, more regular etc...

A few months ago, I saw a visiting female GP who asked about AF now and before I was pregnant, and when I told her how it had changed so much, she said that she has heard a lot of women say they are different after a baby, but there is no medical information to suggest that's the case.

Its funny you ask this Christy, as I got mine last Friday. So almost 7 weeks after Alana was born.

Is it different? Sure is!!! I have been having painful period pains and heavy loss. And I'm still going-day 8! Yuck!!! Mine use to last 5 days and start of with a medium loss first two days, then light for the remainder. OB said yesterday that its not uncommen for your first period to come back like when you first got it as a kid.

    Hello

I have just gone on the mini pill since I am b/feednig and I asked the obs when I should expect AF - he said that there is no particular guidance and it can come at any time.

After Aidyn was born I was bleeding on and off for at least 10 weeks. It would stop for a week, and then come back again, so I had no idea if it was really AF or not (I was not BFing). I started on the pill at 14 weeks after his birth, and it has been great since then. Bleeding is very light and only for about 4 days!

AF just returned for me yesterday and Jacob is 15w on Wednesday. I *think* I had a mini AF 4w prior when I had 3 days of spotting of old blood, but since it wasn't anything significant I just kind of put it down to just one of those things, but now that AF has most DEFINITELY returned as of yesterday, I think it must have been AF that I had 4w ago (timing sounds right!)

OMG 2 years bfeeding - you're a legend. I though 10 mos was good - but I had to give up because we wanted to start IVF again. Nicola was very easy and quick to feed so I could've continued.....would've loved to continued..

I went back on the pill a week and a half after I had Jessica, and then wanted to skip my period so I skipped the sugar tablets and got AF at about 8weeks after. I have now taken 2 cycles of the pill again and will get my period in a week and a half, I feel I deserve a rest.

Okay ladies, not sure if this question should be here or elsewhere. Just wondering if you don`t get AF for quite some time after baby do you still ovulate each month without AF arriving?

You may still ovulate! You can still ovulate while breastfeeding and not getting AF, it's just that AF comes after ovulation so if you BD on ovulation when you haven't been getting AF - then you may miss the first AF expected because you are pg. Does that make sense!!!
