Caeserean - pain in spine - can anyone help?

    Hi,

I am new to this site. Wondering if anyone can help with a problem???

I had a caeserean on December 6th 2005. This is my first child - Ethan - a beautiful baby boy born at 36 weeks.

I had a spinal. Since then I have had shocking burning pain in my spine and shoulder. Went to GP and was sent for blood tests and xrays. This showed slight infection in my spine. I have been taking voltaran for the pain but it isn't working too well. I had follow up tests a few days ago which shows the infection has cleared up but I am still in alot of pain. I also get numbness in my legs.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions of what else I can do to ease the pain. I don't really want to keep relying on tablets.

    Cheers

    Katie

I would definitley get them to investigate it further if you are in any discomfort. If your GP won't help you go somewhere else, maybe even contact the hospital as they might be more willing to help as they wouldn't want a lawsuit on their hands iykwim?

Numbness is definitley not something you take lightly!

    Goodluck!

    *hugs*

    Hi Cailin,

I think you are right. Actually, I know you are. I guess deep down I'm really worried it will be something bad and I don't want to know about it. I will give my local hospital a call in the morning and see what they say. Its so frustrating when you know something is wrong but your doctor can't tell you what it is. Not his fault though..........

Hi Katie - I had a ceasar too - I have back pain but I don't think it is from the birth - mostly die to hormones and over use. DEFINITELY seek a secong opinion. I am from GEelong too - ring the hospital that you had Ethan at, try and speak to the anethatist (spl?), ask if they had any trouble getting the needle in. The thing is that even though the infection may have cleared, perhaps there is still some inflammation in your spine and you need some other medication. I am sure you will be OK - get some further info for your own peace of mind.

Let us know how you go.

    Hi Kazzy,

I'm happy to say that the burning sensation has improved heaps but I'm still getting alot of upper back pain.

I was prescribed some stronger pain relief but it made me drowsy and I didn't want to feel like that especially having a baby to take care of.

I will give the hospital a call and find out if they had any trouble getting the needle in.

    I'll let you know.

    Cheers,

    Katie
