Friday week ago I gave birth to my little boy! He got stuck and needed to be vaccuumed out and due to that I needed an episiotomy... over a week on I am still taking panadol to try and reduce the pain and I feel it is not getting much better.
Is there anything anyone has done to help relieve the pain or any tips on how to 'recover' from this any quicker?? I try not to walk around too much or bend over etc..... it is driving me mental!!
i hear you!!! i couldnt sit down for around 10 days!! hurt like hell, are you using cold packs on the area? that helps, it takes time though to all heal
When I had my epi, the hospital gave me an inflatable ring to sit on - they use it for patients with really bad piles apparently, but sitting on that did help as there was no direct pressure in that area. I found them to be worse after a few days when it had started to heal and the stitches started to pull. To help alleviate it, I had a 'sitz' bath, which is basically a bath in warm salty water and made sure that I splashed plenty of water on the vuh-jay-jay. I also had a cold pack that I would sit on too.
I agree with Sherie, a nice bath with salt in it works wonders. It really helps to soften the stitches and just make sure you pat dry down there when drying yourself. Hope it starts to feel better soon.
I religiously wore the thick maternity pads, when I went to the thin ones I realised how sore it was to sit on so went back to the big thick ones. I also loved having showers as I am not a bath person.
Sorry to ask, but have you had a look 'down there'? You might just want to check everything is going okay
I didn't have an episi, but i had 2x first degree tears.
I found bathing in salt great, anti-inflam tablets, and sitting on pillows. Those rings can be bad as sometimes they can increase the pressure in that area apparently. My mum says they don't really use them in hospitals anymore.
Other than that, not much i can say to help, except it does heal and get better!
I found a nice bath with salt added very soothing too - did that every day in the hossy and then at home for about two weeks, not sure if it helped the healing but it felt good anyway. The pain of the epi stitches peaked at around 3 weeks and I went to the doctor but he said it was healing fine and after that peak of pain I never felt it again.
I agree with the others - salt bath, cold pack and I sat on rolled up towels with a gap between them. But on the plus side, you must be nearly at the end of the pain. I think it had eased considerably by the 2 week mark. And it happened all of a sudden. One day I was thinking it was going to be like that forever and the next day I could actually sit. I hope you find it eases soon too.
Yep the warm salt baths are the way to go. Also if you still want to use a cold compress, use one of those tube icy poles. Funny I know - but it works!!!
I second the advice to "have a look", just in case you have an infection. Mine stopped hurting after about a week (with no pain killers). I did the salt bath, pat dry and sit on a cushion thing too.
