Post birth contraception - what is safe for bf? Alan help!!!
My dr last time said that I couldn't have the implanon because it would affect my milk but I have since read Babylove by Robin Barker n she reckons it doesn't. The mini pill and condoms together didn't work (my girls only have a little gap) so I don't know whether I should change drs 4 1 that will give it or whether I just need to do temp methods as well as the previous contraception. Please help!!!!
There are a few threads on this already. A couple are quite recent if you have a look. Basically your options are Billings, condoms, mini-pill, IUD ( the Mirena seems to be a popular choice - that's what I have), Implanon. It sounds like the Mirena might be an option for you but you should discuss with your dr. It has lower hormone levels than the mini-pill but is more effective as it is localised, so shouldn't affect your supply.
Implanon is considered safe when breastfeeding. The main problem is that there has not been much research into this method of birth control. However it contains the same hormone (progesterone) as the mini pill (which is commonly used when breastfeeding), and therefore it is expected to have the same outcome. Which is a small mount of progesterone in the breast milk. And now, many doctors will give women Implanon when breastfeeding
If the mini pill did not work for you then you could also consider Depo Provera, an injection every 12 weeks or so.
