My sister had her tubes done during a elective c-section. I was her support person. All what they did was put 2 stiches in them. Recovery was no different. She said she would recommend it. They will only do it during a elective not emergency c-section. I am thinking of having a elective c-section, if I do I was be asking to have mine done.
cathy - I had mine done during my last c-section. recovery was no different, however, my period has been very painful since. i wish i hadnt had it done. do lots of research - I wish I had.
I had it done last August while having Isla - i think they used clamps for mine. My recovery wasn't any different but can't comment on when periods happen as i haven't had one yet - still bf. Have to admit i am a bit nervous for when they return because you do hear quite a few people say they are more painful. My ob suggested a reason for this is that most peopl eare on the pill before having bubs and the pill make periods lighter and less painful anyway so once ladies have their tubes done and aren't on the pill anymire then their periods return to normal ie more painful than when they were on the pill. Not sure if this is true - just what my ob said.
My OB doesn't do them during c/sections (I asked him if I could have mine done if I needed one) because there is a higher failure rate due to the tubes being bigger than normal.
I had mine done during my C/s in Nov 07.. Only difference I had was heavier periods but they only last 36-48 hours being heavy then they last 4-5 days.. I have long cycles now.. I had issues right after the birth where they were coming every 7 days for 7 days.. 7 days on 7 days off. very deressing after a while then all of a sudden they went to 35-36 days
I don't regret getting mine done but I still wish i could have more babies. but I don't at the same time. financially and physically more children is not a possibility. but definetly make sure this is what you want.. Both Dh and i have said that if we won Lotto or something like that we would try have another but for now we are happy with our decision..
Some recommend waiting 12 months post delivery to be sure tubal ligation is still wanted. They often refuse to do them at the same time as a c-section (which was more common in the era of our mothers) due to the higher risk of failure.
