    long-term contraception? advice wanted please!

I am not keen on either IUDs or hormonal contraception, but am looking for something both reliable and long-term. I'd prefer reversible too (just in case - we're pretty sure we're happy with no more children but you never know what the future will bring) but basically at this stage it's looking like DH will be going for the snip. Are there any other long-term contraceptive options I've missed? TIA 8-[

Apart from a tubal ligation i don't know what else there could be that isn't hormonal or an IUD. A vastectomy is reversable, but not always 100% reliable it will work if reversed. A tubal ligation is the same.

I hope you find something Fenella.

Hi Sherie, thanks for your reply. Vasectomy is a simpler operation (quicker recovery etc.) than tubal ligation, which is the main reason we're thinking of going that way. I think the main reason I am still a little unsure is that I've heard of an option that sounds way better (a non-hormonal injection into DH's tubes to stop sperm getting through, lasts up to 10 years but is easily reversible sooner), but it's not available yet and doesn't look like it will be in Australia any time soon

Im not sure of anything else. We had a reversal of a vasectomy done to achieve Sammy and it only took 8 months of ttcing too...vasectomy was performed 5 years previous.

LMAO at nana knickers, Barley1! Unfortunately I *do* wanna play - therein lies the need for contraception

Jo, thanks for letting me know how you went with TTC Sammy after reversal, it's nice to hear that it's definitely possible in real life IYKWIM.
