    my stitches fell out !

    Hi all ,

I gave birth 12 days ago - I had 2nd degree tearing it took ages to stitch me up because all the damage was done ( tmi ) up the top rather than around the perineum.
Anyways , the doctor said that the stitches will disolve in about 30 - 90 days. Last night in the shower I was trying to wash the area when suddenly the stitches fell out onto my hand
I havent had any additional pain or discomfort ( just REALLY BAD itching for the last few days )
Do you think i should be concerned ?? I want to avoid going to the doctor -Im trying to regain my dignity , had enough of people looking at my rear end. hehe

Enigma, I have no idea but can you call your OB and ask? Or alternatively, the midwives where Aneta was born? I know the midwives at my hospital encouraged me to call them even after we went home if I had any questions about my or bub's health.

Like tulip said, itching can be a sign of healing, but Id still get it checked out just in case

I had exactly the same as you - stiches at front etc. They said not to worry if I wiped or something and saw the stitches come out. I actually never did but that's what they said. Def call the hospital for reassurance though!

It was probably around 2 - 3 weeks that I felt normal again. That first week after the swelling went down was awful though! How did you feel?

its been 3 weeks now Like you say Lea the first week after swelling went down was ridiculous! Craaaazy itching , and when that stopped - it hurt to walk because I could feel the stitches ( the ones that hadnt fallen out )
Even now , it still stings when I go to the loo.. *sigh*... I accidently sat on the fitness ball yesterday , I have never jumped so high hehe... I keep forgetting .. Cant wait for it to be all healed

Oh I don't want to ever feel that pain again LMAO!! The sitting down and going to the toilet was the worst part! I had first degree (so that's not as bad as yours right?) so hopefully you'll be all healed up soon!!

I dont know Lea , i never knew - if 2nd degree is worst than 1st or if its the other way around??
Either way , its not fun !
I FINALLY found some courage to have a look down there today . OMG ! Wish I hadnt , is it normal for it to be so " open " ?? ( sorry if TMI ) .. but ***** ! I thought the muscles would contract and everything would return to normal. It does not look or feel normal ! ... Im giving it till week 6 and then im going to the doctor..
