Is it ok to have a bath?

Ok, I got told I shouldnt go swimming while I still have some blood loss, but is it ok to have a bath? I know its the same thing - immersing self in water - but I always thought the reason was because pools are so foul and you risk infection...

So, is it ok to have a bath while you still have some blood loss, or not?

    Hi Karina.

I had sitz baths 1-2 times a day from the time I got home from hospital - so not a proper bath but a salt water bath at home, only a few inches deep.

I was told not for longer than 15 mins at a time, however I had stitches and that was why I had to get out earlier - so they didn't disolve early.

My totally uneducated opinion would be that you'd be at far less risk of infection at home than in a public pool/beach etc.

Can you phone the birth centre/hospital or your GP to ask?

Karina, Salt water baths are great for healing after birth especially if you do have stitches or roids etc.

In the early days I think you are supposed to get out by about 15 mins if you do have stitches. I had them almost daily after DS 2 and it really does make you feel loads better!
