The literature that I took home from the hospital said that if bleeding re-occurs after six weeks, and after it has stopped post-natally, then it is probably your period returning. But it will probably be irregular and difficult to predict for as long as you are nursing. (And maybe for a while after you wean your baby too.) HTH!

Just wanted to add - you may or may not be ovulating with your period. You can ovulate also without getting a period.

they told me at the hospital that post birth bleeding *should* be finished by 6 weeks post birth, and if it stops for a week then starts up again after that time, then its probably period returning..

My PP bleeding lasted about 8 weeks with both my girls. Are you able to take it easy for a little while? Try taking a week of as much rest as you can possibly manage, and see if that helps things at all. Otherwise, maybe talk to your doctor, and see if they have any thoughts.
