Just passing on a request for stories from one of the lovely women I trained with last year who is writing a book on the darker sides to motherhood.

DARK MOTHER

In 2005 I was in the midst of completing a birth attendant course when I had the idea of creating a book that shared women’s experiences into the “dark side” of mothering. I realised that all mothers have journeyed into the “dark side” of mothering in one form or another.

“The Dark Mother” is a collection of stories by mothers who have journeyed through the “dark side” of mothering, i.e. the challenging, exasperating, helpless, hopeless, confusing, beyond exhaustion into delirium times when we as mothers have not recognised ourselves.

So who have we been during those early days of mothering? What has been your experience of “the dark mother”? What is your story? What got you through it? Have you arrived at a resolution? If so, how? Where are you now in relation to her?

This is a book to share, heal and nourish that side of mothering. To acknowledge that yes, mothering is an amazing, wonderful experience, but that it can also be painful, lonely and overwhelming and indeed a dark time.
This book is to honour all mothers.
