Has anyone has physio on their scars after having a baby? I've been seeing a women's physio specialist for treatment to help soften extensive scarring thanks to an episiotomy and 3rd degree tears, as well as tears to internal vaginal wall.
During the sessions it's quite painful at points but bearable, and the scars are softening. But both sessions (2 weeks apart) have resulted in some bleeding, which, judging by my physio's reaction, was quite unusual (I'm 15 weeks pp). The most recent bleeding was enough to soak through a panty liner.
Has anyone else had physio treatment and also had bleeding?!?
She is the one doing the exercises (lol). Basically she is stretching out the scars to soften them. Just using one finger, lots of lube and pressure (but always checking that I am ok with the pain levels). I guess I was thinking she was just irritating it, not actually causing more damage. Hmmmmmmmm.
im not a physio..so don't know for sure but I think its odd she is doing that. I was under the impression that when you see a physio for tears post birth it is more pelvic floor exercises eg stuff you do. but I could just not know =p
hopefully there is someone here who has more of an idea
Sounds pretty odd to me. I've never heard of that being a therapeutic thing. It certainly wasn't something discussed during my post birth (and post episiotomy) plans. Maybe get a second opinion.
Yeah, doesn't sound right to me either. I'd give it a rest for a while. Sounds like its re-tearing. Is it stinging/ burning when you urinate or when semen touches it? Or stinging/ burning during intercourse?
I'm not in pain during urination or just normal circumstances. It doesnt hurt after the treatment. We have not DTD as I am terrified given both my OB and physio said I have extensive scarring, particularly of the internal vaginal wall (thanks DS for your broad shoulders!!).
It was my OB who suggested seeing a physio. The physio certainly made it sound like "softening of the scars" is a common practice, though not many women actually bother to have it done. I'm going fornightly and after two treatments it does seem to be helping. But I just wondered if anyone else had done it too or had the bleeding. So your responses have given me something to think about....
Well in my experience it would sting/ burn if your scars were tearing again. So you might not have been damaged in that way from the physio. But the bleeding you are experiencing doesn't sound good. I would probably give it a break and try again in a while.
