    Episiotomy pain... for how long?

    Hi everyone,
Despite what my signature may say I am four weeks PP and still having constant dull aching from my episiotomy. If I don't take Voltaren it becomes annoyingly painful.
Can anyone shed some light as to how long an epi takes to heal? TIA

Mine took quite a while to feel comfortable. Is it not healed, or just still hurting? Mine healed within 6 weeks, certainly, maybe 2-3 at the outside? But still hurt for a while, and was still uncomfortable for sex for ages.
Hope it doesn't take so long for you. If it's not actually healed perhaps talk again with your health carer?

Mine hurt for a long time too. I found there was more pain for a shorter time with internal tears and less pain but for a longer time with the episiotomy. The majority of pain stopping probably happened around the 2-3 month mark but DTD hurt for years afterwards and had to be repaired so take it easy when the time comes.

However it doesn't hurt to have it looked at by a GP.

Mine is still not 100%. It's not bad enough for pain killers, but I still notice it. It was still quite bad at 4 weeks PP - I remember I had my MW have a look at it at my discharge visit as I was worried about what was going on down there! My episiotomy was big - they wouldn't tell me how many stitches, but MW said it seemed unnecessarily long (forceps delivery in theatre).

Mine healed after a couple of weeks but ached probably for around 6-8 weeks. I used to freeze a bit of water in a condom and put it in a pad for relief, and whatever you do don't hold back a sneeze!!!

Much like MadB, mine healed after a few weeks but ached for a while and was uncomfortable/painful during sex for quite a while.

They can be nasty things. My two tears with my subsequent pregnancy healed a lot faster. And better.
