    Okay any ideas? Short cycles

Hello.. my question is whats going on??

I got my AF when Jovie was 18 months 2 weeks after finishing breastfeeding. It started out weird which I expected. I bled for 8 days and then had 6 weeks until the next period. The next one was text book 4 days bleeding, no pain etc... than 20 days later I got another one and thought.... hmmm thats close for me. Bled for 4 days. 14 days later another AF.... than 10 days later after the 4 days of bleeding, another AF. That one was full on, heaps of bleeding and painful for the first day and then 3 days of normal. 10 days later... whammo again, but light/normal cycle and heaps of pain the day I finished. My ovaries area of my body were very painful and whammo... I was ovulating (CM showed me) already. I've been without bleeding for 5 days and I have all the signs of AF arriving.

What could be going on? I'm 34, had a history of longer cycles (up to 6 weeks) with very heavy flows prior to children, than once having DD1 everything went "normal" Now its all over the place.

Christy - is it's possible you're having longer "cycles" but with significant mid cycle bleeding? perhaps your hormone levels are all over the place or something.

a friend had 6 weeks of pretty consistent bleeding, and turned out she had developed a uterine lining that was too thick, and she was consistently shedding it - hormone levels be damned. she had to have a d&c to clear the over prolific endometrium and problem was solved. back to standard 4 week cycle. from what she said, the doctor has told her that she'd built up a heavy endometrium between giving birth and resuming her "cycle", and just needed a really good clean out....

hope someone can give you some more factual answers (seeing mine is just anecdotal waffle!)

christy- wow 18 months and no AF... i got AF even while breastfeeding both times. This time we've made it to 13 weeks but had AF every 2 weeks since after the birth... I had isssues conceiving before hand and had no AF for 2 yrs prior to falling preg so i figured its pay back for me...

Big Higs... i dont have much advice but just wanted to say i know how u feel...

lucky you first up.. no af for 18 months.. I wish..

I got irregular cycles after bub3 and 4.. Mainly after bub 4. I was on 14 days cycles with bleeding for 7 days eac time. So 7 days on 7 days off.. no impressed.. My irregular cycles after bub 3 was put down to a Fibroid. I assumed that was the problem this time as well and didn't go to the Dr.. It has settled down to a 24 day cycle now..

ps I get AF back within 4 weeks of post partum bleeding finishing...

I would go to the Dr and ask for a hormone test.. I think it is a blood test and maybe a scan if that doesn't show anything... Also it might just be your body slowly reregulating itself..

I agree Christy, I'd head off to the GP or gyn to have a hormone profile done. Will give you a better idea of what's going on.

I'm so Christy but I have absolutely no idea what is happening with your cycles. I'd give it another month or two and if they don't sort them out I'd be inclined to pop into your GP for a check up just to make sure everything is ok.

Best of luck darling. I know how frustrating feral cycles are.

I just had series of tests done (not hormone though LOL) and found heaps of issues with my body absorbing vitamins and minerals from food or sun. Maybe it is hormonal... after I gave birth to Jovie, I had a massive cyst in my ovary which has settled. I think I will wait for 2 more cycles and see if they even out a bit.

Yuck.... I'm so tired of it. Tired in general because of it.

Christy because you are bleeding so often don't forget to make sure that eat lots of iron rich food to try and keep up your iron levels.

    Fingers crossed everything settles down

Yeah I apparently can't absorb iron from food either, so I am on triple iron supplements atm because I can't seem to get normal levels of iron any other way. Next step is injections and I'm hoping all my supplements & tonics etc get my levels up. Its bad enough having to get B12 injections.

Christy, your acupuncturist should be able to help with this. I am having acupuncture for cycle regulation, I weaned Elijah 12 months ago and was sick of the unpredictable, heavy periods... so far so good! its looking like I will have a normal monthly cycle this month! WOOT! They suggest a minimum of three months to correct it but it's my first month and I am happy.

mmm I have been a few times now for it.... so far.... so purging. She put me on herbs to "clean me out" and ummmmm yep thats what its doing. Last Friday/Saturday I could have been in early labour, the cramps came & went regularly and *TMI* a lot of gunk came out!! I saw her again on Tuesday & she said "ohhhh you must have had fibroids () Thats what happens". So I'm still on AF or maybe its just the end of the purge (been bleeding now for 11 days straight.... ) I'm tired, eating red meat daily, eating spinach daily, and gobbling the iron tablets like you wouldn't believe (with vit C of course).
