I got a tattoo for my baby

I just wanted to tell you all that I just had a tattoo done for my lost baby (well I had it done a week ago). It's of a little sprouting seed and has the words 'from little things big things grow' around it. It's on the inside of my left arm up the top so it's always next to my heart. The words are from a Paul Kelly song that is not at all related but is beautiful and I think those words can mean so many different inspiring things.
I have had many people ask what it means and I must say I didn't quite think through how I would answer. I have even had silly friends ask me?? I think I forget that my loss probably doesn't loom as large in their minds as it does in mine.
I lost my baby just before Christmas and I had a D&C on the 19th of Jan so I guess I didn't think about it for a long time but it felt really right. Just wanted to share.
How have others remembered their losses?

I think that it's a lovely idea, I have been designing one for the twins I lost but it's not quite right yet so I'll keep tweeking it. I have planted a beautiful red/orange rose for them between the two rose plants that I have planted for my two surviving children (which also have their placenta buried beneath), so the three of them are in a row, one for my son, one for the twins and one for my daughter. I have little cherub garden ornaments beneath them so it's a nice space. I also have two candles on my mantle that I light for them every now and again when I'm feeling down or on any anniversaries relating to them. It's nice for them to still be a part of the family and not something to be forgotten or dismissed as 'one of those things'. cheers

    That's awesome!

I have mine all planned out but I am waiting until I finish breastfeeding. I've thought about what to say when people ask about it, but mine is going to be pretty nondescript, just a butterfly. I'll know what it means though and that's enough.

    BTW - love that song!

I bought a gold heart charm with tiny footprints on it and the word LOVE engraved on the back. It will also have our baby's birthstone - peridot - on it. It will go on my necklace so it is always close to my heart....

i have a gothic sort of tattoo on my left shoulder blade (close to my heart) for my first two angel babies - it's a moon with a heart in it - sounds weird, but it's quite nice. no one knows what it means, unless i've told them, but i get comments all the time.

for our third angel, as we were jumping straight back into assisted conception, DH went and bought me a bracelet with a heart charm on it, which i wear all the time - took me a month to be brave enought to wear it, but i haven't taken it off since...

we've also planted roses for each of our angels - Mother's Love for the first, Children's rose for the second, and Angel Face for the third. we have heaps of roses, so to anyone else, it wouldn't be obvious - but each rose has been planted in the garden bed we were working on at the time we lost our angel - and it holds great meaning for us

wow what a great idea!! I have a heart shaped blue aquamarine surrounded by little diamonds on a necklace which I haven't taken off since DH bought it for me about a week after we lost Thomas. It really helped in my follwing pg with Finn as I felt Thomas was my angel watching over that pg and he would make sure everything went well...which it did. And he was always close to my heart. I also have a little box with my keepsakes and a candle near it which I also light when I'm feeling a bit down. I love the rose and the tattoo ideas, I think a might do that as well.

    take care

I too am waiting until I have stopped breastfeeding. I want to get a star with a 'C' in the middle and I also thought about getting it on the inside of my wrist.

I have had a pendant made that is a yellow gold star with Cooper written across it in white gold. I also had an eternity/memory ring made that has diamonds and yellow topaz (Cooper's birthstone). We have a garden with a beautiful cherub statue in it and I had a bronze plaque made for it.

My friend got me a locket with 2 footprints engraved on one side and a butterfly (which is our symbol for Jack) on the other. Before we had him cremated I bought one of those love hearts that you snap so you have the 2 half heart bits and i put one around his neck for him to be cremated with and i wear the other with my locket. I wanted to do a scrapbook for him and have the photos printed but as yet have'nt started it.
I would love to see a photo of your tatt as i have wanted to but am too scared to as yet! I think your idea and the wording is really perfect!

We've just been to Dubbo for the week (to get away from it all and clear our heads a little) and there was a tatt parlour there. I had very fleeting images of getting something done, but I would never have the guts to do it. I have a terrible needle phobia and the thought of a tatt makes my blood run cold. However, I would love to have a permanent reminder of our little B2....

I am getting my tattoo for my baby done this Saturday. Really nervous, as although I have had one done already so I know what to expect, this one will take nearly two hours to do!!!! Erk!

It is a pair of gothic fairy wings with a stylised Virgo sign in the centre (my baby was due 17th September). Obviously it will be on my back!

    Wish me luck

I bought a drawing of a little girl releasing a bird. For me it symbolised my need to say goodbye. I felt a tremendous rush of emotion when I saw the print and felt drawn to it. Now I have to get it framed and find somewhere suitable to hang it.
