I was 17 weeks pregnant, on the Monday my husband and i had a beautiful dinner at a fancy restaurant and opened the envelope from our OB, finding out it was a little baby girl. (Our son is 22 months old) Life was very rosy..
On Wednesday I developed a nasty tummy cramp - high rather than low, so I wasn't concerned for the bubs. I had a bit of diarrhoea and one bout of vomiting, so off to the docs I go for some reassurance for what I thought was food poisoning. But by 3am on Thursday, the pain has gotten very knarly, and had migrated to the lower right side, even I knew that something was not right. At the hospital on Thursday, I was diagnosed with appendicitis. By the time i was operated on, it had burst and the bacteria had spread throughout the whole of my abdomen.
On friday I went into pre-term labour, although we thought the contractions had stopped after taking calcium channel blockers. Unfortunately, the cervix was still silently opening and I lost the baby late on Saturday night.
I find little comfort from being told that most appendixes do not burst that fast, but maybe some pregnant mothers will. Ask for an ultra-sound of there is any pain on the right side, front or back. I hope to conceive again soon and move forward
