it kinda sorta does sound like there might be a filling needed...(my expert opinion of course in all things dentistry rofl!). but this was my first clue too (sore when eating).
basically from what i gather they can clear the decay (that's the drill bit). it sounds way worse than anything. i only felt uncomfy from the noise and sometimes when the nurse didnt get the sucker thing to suck up the water spray and it can taste a bit yucky.
it can cost quite a bit. but is so worth it as you know our teeth are so important to our health! and as for not having PHI i wouldnt be too worried. most cover only offers a discount on procedures, so you would be out of pocket in most scenarios anyway.
a normal filling situation can take about 45 minutes too.
i had to have a few put in just before i got the braces on and although uncomfortable i dont remember it as *painful* as such...in moments where the fear would overtake me i just kept the mantra (not as painful as childbirth etc etc lol!). so maybe come up with a memory of something mega painful and use that as your measure to keep you grounded LOL!
good luck and fingers crossed that it is a quick and easy fix!
I need to go too I haven't been in about the same time frame and I really want them cleaned properly and I also may need my wisdom teeth taken out! I have a referral for an xray but I keep procrastinating
If it's any consolation, I don't have phi and I'm scared too!
I'm just coming in to give you BIIIIG hugs cause I didn't go for 9 years, and then just for a checkup - & I haven't been back yet (that was about 3 years ago...) - I KNOW I have to go one day but I am also scared. And I can't afford it. That's my excuse anyway
and the really stupid part is...I'm sure it won't be as bad as I think, you know?
So you are braver than me, anyway
It's awful isn't...am I'm hardly scared of anything.
I just went before Christmas...we had PHI but after the amount I got back we actually cancelled ours.
I went for a consult and xray -$100, then my first ever filling $250,then a clean $100 got back about$80 - with the cover just under top cover.
With the cleaning they used to put that awful gritty stuff on, but they don't do that anymore (cos they've figured out it wears the enamel away ) so there's a bit of scraping and swooshing and it's over in about 10minutes. The filling invold a local injection, some grinding (which made my brain shake - it didn't hurt but felt yuck) and then the filling bit. The worst bit was that my jaw hurt from having to keep my mouth open.
Hun check out your local centrlink and as about a emergency dental hospital. We have one in our area that is free if you say it hurts really badly and you have a health care card. Worth having a look as it could save you alot of money. I have had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out through them for free.
I hadn't been to the dentist in years and years too! So I went not long ago and it was so NOT scarey at all!! All I needed was a little filling, which barely took 20 mins for that! They also gave me a clean and fluoride treatment too.
I tell you, you will feel sooo relieved after going!!
