why not do RN's at uni? its only 3 years, you get a better pay and HECS covers the tuition. I skipped the EEN's but i have 2 friends doing it now and they go 3 days a week. they love it, the aged care placement is awful! and we ALL must do it whether RN or EEN but its worth it in the end. uni is only 3 days a week too. Anyway you can upgrade later on if you choose. GOOD LUCK!!! we need more of you!!!
When I started (just out of school) I got $7.76 an hr, I'll never forget that hehe. But we only had to do 15 hrs a week on the job so 2 shifts and 1 day a week school
What a shame AJ! Still, have a look at your options.
Those wanting to do Div 2 (EN) as a stepping stone to Div 1 (RN), keep in mind that not all universities give you a heap of credit. You will get some, but not a lot. At most you might be exempt from 1 or 2 subjects each year... so it doesn't cut that much of the 3 year degree... just keep that in mind. I am not in any way diminishing the Div2 EN course - just letting you know what I have observed.
i checked out the new course starting at holmesglen in august (div 1 nursing) and they offer entry into second year for EN but i know a lot dont!
wish it was easier, i seriously need a careers adviser like you have in school :P
All the talk of div 1 div2 - its really confusing! I decided to go for div1 mainly as i figured I would like to make sure i like nursing before i go and do div1 (if i decide to) and specialise in an area. I didn;t like the idea of racking up a hecs debt if at the end of it I didnt like it! JMO though.
I am lovin g the course though.
Oh and with the fees-im not sure why chisholm would be so different to box hill - are you sure that wasnt the international student rate?
I know chisholm was more expensive than Vicuni-i have a friend who started there the same time as i started mine.
Hehehe Kobes, did you have Laurel and Caroline? I am spewing that I left the course early - because I couldnt see past earning such a pitiful amount for 2 years when I was working JUST as hard as every other nurse in the facility. Now I am JUST a PCA and I am really upset with myself cause I still work just as hard as the other nurses but dont have the qualification...
I applied to get into Div 1 and Midwifery this year but was unsuccessful. I will just have to keep trying....
I am doing div 2 at Vic uni and really enjoying the course although the school could be ALOT more ogranised. They have been really bad with timetable changes, teachers not knowing what we have already covered.... Its disappointing seeing as you pay good money to go there.
Overall though its been awesome and I cant wait to get out there and work.
Part time is certainly enough though 2 days a week schooling and 3 days work is just enough to still have time to myself.
