Hi hj, I have not heard any more. I did send Jenny Gamble an email a while back but did not get a reply. I wanted to find out whether the BMid would still be available part time seeing as the website said it was going to be available in fulltime mode only.
I am quite nervous about actually getting in, because it seems there are heaps of people wanting to do this course and being a new course I think it will be really tough. So I am thinking of putting ACU as my second preference just in case.
But then I was skimming through the maternity services review last night and it basically says that they still see registered nurse/midwives as optimum over those who have done an undergraduate BMid degree as they feel that those with both qualifications are more adaptable and will be better equipped to care for families. Oh, I don't know
Spice - im sooo in the same position as you! im thinking maybe i might do nursing first than do BMid - cause i think also that u might just make a better Middy if u had nursing behind u aswell - my only prob is that i really dont have much of an interest in doing Nursing! Plus cause i dont have high enough rank to get into anywhere but ACU and thats a long drive - Nursing is a bit easier to get into!
So i was chatting with DH last night and im thinking of doing this
1st Preference - Nursing at Griffith Nathan
2nd Preference - BMid at ACU
3rd Preference - Nursing at Griffith Logan
I also dont think to get into Nursing that i need to do any study to help get in!
But than..... i was chatting to someone today and they suggested why dont i do Diploma in Nursing (my highest Qual at the mo is CERT IV) at TAFE and than try to get into Midwifery - so im thinking that might be the way to go - just have to ring UQ and see if that will help me get my ranking up high enough to get in - than i only have to do Nursing full time for 18mths than do Middy - instead of 3yrs Nursing than Middy?!
Does that make any sense to you?

It's a hard decision to make isn't it!
If you do a bachelor of nursing at Uni first (as opposed to the diploma of Nursing at Tafe) then you only have to do a Masters in Midwifery which at Griffith is one year fulltime. You spend one day per week on campus and you also work in a paid placement at a hospital as a student midwife.
If you decided to do a diploma of nursing at Tafe that would be 18 months and then because you'd be an endorsed enrolled nurse and not a registered nurse, you'd have to then to the bachelor of midwifery (3 years) as opposed to being able to do the masters of mid (1 year)
HOpe this makes sense.

if i did B Nursing - would i definatly get into M Midwifery? or do u have to do REALLY well in Nursing?
hmmmmm - definatly something to think about! but if i did nursing thru Griffith Nathan than i'd have a pretty good chance of getting into Griffith Logan for the Midwifery part hey!

hey again, well, I am absolutey hopeless when it comes to making a decision. I change my mind ALL THE TIME! My passion is definately in Mid so I'd love to get straight into it. And I think it would be kind of exciting being one of the first to do BMid through Griffith, but there is still a teeny part of me who wonders whether I might be better off in the long run perservering with doing nursing first.
Also, I want to have another baby in the not too distant future (by the time Charli is 3) and I wonder how I would juggle Uni (especially BMid) with 2 little ones and all of the time needed for follow-throughs and rostered clinical placements etc etc.
You soooo sound like me! but i have been told to stop making excuses and to do it so im telling you the same as well! stop making excuses and just do it!
i want to have bub number2 in the next cpl of years, and i dont want to put Bianca in child care anytime soon, so i keep thinking maybe i should wait! but hey why should i keep putting what i want to do off, so i figure im just going to take the big step and apply and than go from there! may aswell start the long journey of achieving my dream! so what if i have to dlelay (cant remember the right word for the life of me atm) a year half way thru or drop down to part time - as long as in the end i do it and graduate!!!! and become a MIDWIFE!
So come on - we can do this together!!!! and if you have enough qualifications to get into BMid straight away than just do it - i would if i could!!!
Yes I think if I'm lucky enough to get into Griffiths BMid I'm just going to do it! I will have to work out how to juggle uni/work/babies but I'll get there. Unfortunatley I have to bring in an income as DH's income alone isn't quite enough
The baby part is tricky. Charli will be 3 in September next year and I kind of wanted no more than 3 years apart. Unless I tried to time it so bub would be due in the Xmas break and that would make them just over 3 years apart. I would have to cross my fingers that I managed to conceive at the right time though . . .And part of me would like to start trying again sooner rather than later. But I DO need to lose some weight and get healthy beforehand as I want to minimise my chances of getting PIH again so I can hopefully have a VBAC.
I'm still hoping that Griffith are going to go ahead with the B of Mid! I had thought about doing a double degree, but like you ladies, don't have an interest in the other parts of nursing. It's going to be hard enough juggling parenthood and Uni to do something I love , let alone something I struggle with!
Wouldnt it be great if we all got into Griffith! Which I'm not sure I will with the way I'm going with my biology unit at the moment!!!
I went to my mid apt last week and I was lucky enough to meet a midwife who works with trainee mid student through Griffith uni and she confirmed that the course will be starting in 2010
hj1981: I am not to sure if you have seen but they are announcing new "health related" courses that are going to be held at USQ Springfield campus in a few months time.
I have everything crossed it may be a nursing or mid course.
It is something to do with the "health city" development going on there.

I am doing a Tertiary prep course though USQ and my tutors are at springfield campus so I have been wondering if I should try and ask one of them
I also went past the griffith uni - Logan campus the other day and it really only felt like just down the road. This was via the logan motorway though and there are the tolls which is a PITA if you have to do it every day.
