Ella - personally i would finish what u have started BN and than go and do your Midwifery! If u enjoy the nursing side of things! cause u do have a good point - u than have Nursing to fall back on if you do not enjoy Midwifery! it gives you more options!
and some have said that if u do the nursing than the midwifery you are looked upon more highly! and i can see there points!
I have applied to do nursing also - but that really is not where my interest lies at all, but if its what i have to do to get into midwifery than i will do!

Yeah I think maybe I should do it that way, it will give me more options as I'm only wanting to work part time while the kids are little which means I might have to be a bti mroe open about hte feild I work in...

I think even if you get into BN you will love it, once you've done some time in the BN you cna do an internal transfer to Midwifery anyway I think... that way you would have a choice if you are hating the BN!

Ella, I'm with hj, if you've started BN you may as well finish it. Would the Logan campus be closer to you than nathan though? The other good thing about having done your BN first is when you do the masters of Mid you are put in a paid placement at a hospital as a student midwife for the 12 months of the masters so in effect you are earning while you're learning in that 4th year.

Oooohhh I certainly didn't know that!! Mara how long is the Midwifery post grad- I thought it was one year but from the way you're talking it sounds like its a bit longer????

No, it's only the 1 year. And I think you do 3-4 shifts per week in the maternity unit plus 1 day per week on the Uni campus. I was a follow through for a griffith Post Grad student mid so thats how I know ;)

Hmm I wonder how I would go with having to do that many shifts??? with care for DS and possible other bunchkins by then....

Do you know how long the placements last? is that one day at uni and 3-4 shifts a week for the full length of the Honours degree?

I've just looked up the Griffith site, the plcement begins week 2 semester 1 and is 2-3 days per week for the entire year including semester breaks!!!

Wow so at least I'd be used to working by the time I finished the course!!!

Just beware as I am pretty sure that if you do your Nursing first, you have to work as an RN for 12 months before you can actually start your post-grad Mid.

Sara- Didn't seem to say anything about that on the course page on th Griffith website, just says you have to have completed a Bachelor of nursing and be registered or qualify to be registered as an RN is QLD.

Where did you hear that cause that would seriously change my decision to go straight through...

I was told this when I started to do my Nursing in Townsville.

If this is not something you want to do I would be asking more about it if I were you. Call the Uni and talk to them about it.

Hmm, I don't think they would tell us hj, but it would be nice if we could find out what the cut-off Op/rank is.

I don't think QTAC would know the cut off yet, not until the OP's for this year are released, which is not until the 20th of December I think...........

Just wanted to see how you're doing! Did any of you put nursing as a 2nd preference?? I've just changed my preferences to put Nursing at Gold Coast and then nursing at Logan.

I'm trying to find out if i did nursing par time next year whether or not I could then transfer to B of Mid fulltime!!! Everyone I speak to gives me different answers! :wall:
