Yeah, it's a pitty they don't seem to have much info available yet do they.
Well I have changed my mind and decided to put B Mid at ACU as my first preference, because it's so much closer to home. I haven't applied yet though, probably will do it next week. If I get in, I am still undecided as to whether I will accept or defer though, because it all hinges on whether I can get care for the baby - I don't want to put her in day care because she will still be so little. So it's all up in the air at the moment.
I havent applied yet either - was tossing up doing the STAT but decided not too - im doing the TPP at USQ so hopefully that will help!
Not sure what to put down as my pref - i want Griffith but doubt i will get in - so maybe ACU!
Why wouldn't you get into Griffith HJ?? You never know!!!! :crossfingers: I"m doing the Preparing for success program through Southern Cross. When does your TPP finish?
hj - if you want Griffith, put that first - you might get in, and if you don't they will go for your second preference and see if you are accepted into that, and so on down your list of preferences. So it's definitely worth putting the uni you really want to go to first.
Bon - u know what - ur right - i will put it down - it can't hurt to try after all can it!!!!
mamasupha - im yet to start the TPP it starts 20th of July - so im hoping that there is a section on the applications where i can write that i am doing the TPP - its too be completed by end of semester this year!
Is that going to be a problem in applying for 2010 does anyone know? am i wasting my time applying when the TPP hasnt started yet?
HJ... NO it's not wasting time, in the QTAC application you just put down what you are studying and then when it gets to processing they will get in contact with the uni and see how you're doing with it. My Uni prep course won't finish til beginning of feb as I'm doing 2 units this semester and 2 during summer school.!
mamasupha - i wish i could give u a big hug!! u have just made my day!!! THANKYOU SO very much - that is the best news i have heard in a LONG time!!!
so has ur prep course started? if so how are u finding it?
hey HJ Bon & Mama, hope we all get into our chosen one. Yes hj as Bon said definately do put your first choice down as your first pref cause you never do know :) Hey had you thought of even applying for UQ? Aren't you kinda out Ipswich way? The ranking needed to get into UQ has come down heaps since they first offered the course. I think this year the cutoff was 82 so next year it could be even lower, who knows . . .
HJ - So glad that I was able to brighten up your day with that info. :)
MY Prep course has started. I have already done 2 subjects from the TAFE adult tertiary prep course, but am finding the Southern Cross course soooo much better already! There's a great textbook called the study skills handbook by Stella Cottrell. Really helpful with lots of aspects of studying!
Well I have just finished applying to QTAC for next year. First preference - ACU B Mid. Second preference - Griffith B Mid. Now I just have a looong wait to find out if I got in or not! In the meantime ACU have an 'open night' coming up soon that I will try to get to. Overall I am feeling excited at the thought of doing midwifery next year! While I have enjoyed studying nursing up to this point, midwifery was always what I really wanted to do.
Bon - Goodluck - u have inspired me and i applied also! how long is the wait!!!! i am going to go insane!!!! i dont have the best feeling about it all tho :(
Has anyone heard any more about this course yet? The structure and what hospitals will be available for placements? There is still only little info on their website and when I rang the Uni for an update I kept getting messagebank.
Mara - are they doing an open day soon? A lot of the unis are having their open days in July/August, so that might be a good chance to get more info about the course if you can.
Hj - think positive! Or do what I am trying to do and just forget about it until December lol
Bon - its January that we have to forget about it until!!! thats next year!!! ages away!
Mara 0 not much info has been released on the B of Mid at SCU..........but it is a 4 year course condensed into 3years, which means it runs on trimesters not semesters. I'd love to do their course, but logistically think Griffith will be better for me, with running on semesters and not having to worry about daylight savings!
Am putting my QTAC application in today! HAs anyone done a Personal Competencies assessment?? Need to do one but not sure if there's a certain way it needs to be set out.
I didnt do one! was thinking of doing it but than decided not too!
Did anyone go to the open day today?
No i didn't , purely because the open day wasn't at Logan Campus. Going to see if I can go there one day and have a look around. STILL trying to get my personal competencies assessment.!
No i didn't! Had a christening to go to. Did you go Hj?
yeah i did - the lady i spoke to was really nice - got me sooo excited about it all! i REALLY hope we all get in!
That sounds great! what did she say and can you remember who you spoke to??? (sorry for all the questions!!!!!)
If i remember correctly her name was Joce - she was lovely - i was a bit overwhelmed and nervous! the time i was there, there was only 1 other person interested in the BMid - everyone else was there for the Nursing! but i got there early at the start so no doubt when everyone else decided to wake up it might of been more busy!
Um she said there is 50 places - teaching hospitals are at Logan, Goldy and Redlands - i asked heaps of stuff, anything in particular you want to know? i may of asked and might be able to answer for you! Happy to help when and where i can! Have you done your PCA yet?
I thought it might have been Joce, I haven't met her but my SIL is a midwife and said she's lovely. Did she say much about the structure of the course and how many days on campus etc it would be??
Haven't done my PCA yet, keep trying to but then get stuck for how to write it!
Hi ladies, (BTW my former username was spice JIC you haven't figured it out :))I have a feeling Joce is the new BMid course convenor (taken over from jenny)???
Mama, when I went to that info night at Logan i got some leaflets and you have 2 weeks of fulltime intensives on campus at the start of each semester, then a lot of the other stuff is online. You also have 2 follow throughs in semester 1 (20-30 for the full duration of the course) but from semester 2 onwards you actually spend 2 days a week at a hospital. Is that what you were told Hj? The info also says that in order to complete the course on time you actually do up to 46 weeks per year of study so not as many holidays though the year like the other degrees.
I am currently in the TWW so if I am UTD now or some time soon I'm still going to apply but I think I will defer my spot for 12 months if I get in. Will be looking for a student mid to support me for my VBAC though ;)
Mara - how is the TWW wait going?
mama_supha - have u done ur PCA yet?
Bon - how u going???
Just waiting lol. In a few weeks I will be too busy with a new bub to think too much about whether I will get in, although I am quietly confident that I will get into ACU - I have good enough results at least, both from school (sooo long ago now lol) and from uni. But like Mara, depending how things are with bub and whether I can sort out care for her (I don't want to put her in daycare because she will still be so young, so I have to find someone who will be willing to look after her for me), I might have to defer for 12 months. But in the meantime, it's just waiting waiting waiting.
Hi HJ
Have started my PCA. Just need a good few hours to sit down without distraction (i wish!!!) to get it finished, so just doing bits as I go.
Don't know how patient I can be to wait til Jan to find out if we get in! I know some uni's do an early round offer in Dec, but I know Griffith won't be for the miwifery.
Hope you're all doing well!
Hey mama,
can you actually apply through QTAC then submit the PCA later or do you have to do it at the same time?
HJ, thanks for your post in my other thread. I think you're right ;)
Roll on January 2009 :pray::pray: we all get in!
Hi Mara
I've put my application in (online) and then just need to send the PCA in 14 days before first round offers are sent out (Beginning of Jan, but will do it asap!). WHen you do your online application it asks you about a pca and if you say yes it gives you a cover sheet to print out and attach to your PCA. Hope this helps!
So how is everyone going? has everyone applied now? We are getting closer to finding out whats in store for us!
I have applied to UniSA.
Also heard that the Griffith BMID is offered externally also! And that you can do your placement with a IM in 1st and 3rd year!!!!
So thinking of applying to it aswell. Need to do more research first.
yes I have applied. Griffith BMid first preference and Southern cross Uni BMid second preference.
Sara, good luck with getting into UniSA. It's tough isn't it, cause it's the only uni to offer it by distance ed. How come you are looking at changing from ACU?
Mara - I applied as another option. My girls recently moved back to Townsville with their Dad and I am trying to give myself as many option as possible so that if I decide after the Xmas break that I dont want to be away from them, I have other options.
At this stage I think I will come back to ACU but I will cross that bridge when I get there.
HAve applied for BMId at Logan and then BNursing at Logan. How many more months do we have to wait?????
Yay very exciting - we all applied! can't wait to hear that we all got what we wanted! i too applied for Griffith Logan!
That's great HJ. What were your preferences?? I'm still working on my PCA , nearly there! I keep checking the GU website to see if the unit information is up yet for the BMid but not there yet!
Anyone know how the pracs work and if we have to do them certain days?? Trying to figure out how long I can stay at my job for if I get in.
mama_supha - not sure on what does u do prac on - sorry can't help u there - but if u give them a call they are really nice and very helpful!
How far are u into ur PCA? i was thinking about doing one but didn't! is there a outline that u need to follow?
