last time I asked, they didn't know what days prac would be as it's apparently up to the hospital. But from 2nd semester onwards it's 2 full shifts per week And they're usually week days.
Sara, it must be tough with your kids living away from you. HOpefully you get into UniSA so you can be closer to them.
-
Not long to go now until we find out!
How is everyone feeling?
-
Hi HJ
I'm still working on my PCA! Got one of my references done and have to get my next one done to go with my application. I keep going to write the rest of my application, as there is certain criteria you have to address, which is on the QTAC website.
Anyone else know what ranking you have on your application??? Also has anyone heard about early round offers and whether or notB of Mid students will be able to get an early round offer??
I've put nursing as my second preference and am happy with whatever I get, although it would be nice to get straight into Midi. Just hoping I get an early round offer so I can start planning for next year and my daughter's first year of school!
-
mama_supha - the PCA is sounding like alot of work! still worry that maybe i should of done one and sat the STAT but ohwell whats done is done!
How do u find out ur ranking on your application? do you know yours?
Haven't heard anything on early round offers so sorry i can't help you there!
Awww your DD starts school next year!!! how exciting! that will be good for you though with study! i got along time to wait before my DD is in school!
-
Hey Mama, I don't think Griffith has an early offer round :( but don't quote me on it. Have you all been getting the emails from griffith about the immunisation, federal criminal check and blue card requirements etc?
-
I have been! its very exciting isnt it!
-
are early offer rounds dates not advertised on QTAC?
-
Hi Everyone
Yes have been getting the e-mails re: requirements!
Asfor the early round offers if you go into your login on QTAC website (if you applied online) next to your preferences they have 3 offer dates next to the B of Mid and Nursing. Saying 3rd Dec, 17th Dec and then the January round offer. So not sure what to think!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Oh wow, I didn't realise that! Might ring griffith to see what they say.
Does anyone know whether they have decided if you can enrol part time? I'd spoken to Jenny Gamble ages ago and she said you could but then I was speaking to Joce Toohill a couple of months back and she wasn't sure.
-
Hi Mara
On my preference where I have put Bach of Mid it has that it is offered fulltime , whereas my bach of nursing prefence has that it is offered full or part time.
Let us know what Griffith say about early round offers!
-
I'm pretty sure they werent doing Midwifery part-time next year - but maybe in the future! thats what i last heard anyway! could be wrong though!
-
I rang Griffith and there was no-one at the School of Mid and Nursing for me to speak to so I'm going to send an email re: the part-time study load thing and I'll keep you all posted.
I also rang QTAC re: the early offer rounds and apparently the Uni will give early offers in December to a few selected applicants who are deemed as exceptional, but the major offer rounds are where most of the places will be given.
Geez, wouldn't it be nice to get an early offer . . .
-
elizabeth spay
FInally finished my PCA today......not sure how many extra points it will get me, but hopefully won't be wasted!
Early offers - ahhhhhh that would be lovely to know rather than waiting for Jan!
-
oh man fingers crossed for all of us!!!
-
Sending off my PCA tommorrow
How many of us have put Griffith at first pref for B of Mid????? We should start a thread for those of us who have!!
-
Yes BMid at Griffith is my first pref and BMid at SCU is my second pref :)
-
I have Griffith as my 2nd preference but I got the email and a letter as well about the requirements. I would love to be one of the ones who gets an early offer - would certainly help a lot with planning things.
-
How do you think you'll go studying with bubs Bon?
I'm still tossing up whether to have another bub next year and defer my spot (if I get in) til 2011.
If we got the eggie this month I'll be due 31July so bubs would be a good 6 months old by the time i started Uni. Which wouldn't be too bad I guess.
-
So has everyone started with their Hep B vaccinations etc? I was speaking to Joce Toohil and she was saying all 3 hep B vaccinations have to be complete before any clinical placements or followthroughs are started and the course of 3 takes up to 6 months. So prospective fulltime Bmid students need to get the vaccinations started NOW seeing as clinicals start in first semester. She did say there is an accelerated vacc schedule that can be done but it is not suitable for everybody and that you need to discuss options with your GP.
Oh, and she also confirmed to me that you CAN enrol in a part-time study load
How is everybody feeling?
-
Mara - im getting so excited yet very nervouse! i really hope i get an offer! how are u feeling?
I got my 1st Hep injection today! oucy! have u started urs yet?
-
I haven't yet because I'm currently in the TWW. But if AF arrives then I'll be off to get my first hep B shot like a rocket. How much did it cost you?
-
My doc suggested i got the twinrex one combined A and B i think it was and it cost $69.95 but can clain on private health!
How exciting the TWW - how much longer have u got left???
-
TWW is about over. Looks like AF is beginning to make an appearance.
Not to worry, I'll be off to get my HepB shot this week. I didn't even think about claiming on PHI. Good thinking :)
-
Hey HJ, when do you think you will give your little girl a sibling? Will you wait til after you finish your degree?
Is anyone else here going to the BMid info session at Southern cross Uni on 3rd December?
-
Getting my first Hep A and B shot tommorrow!
I'm not going to the Southern Cross uni info day as the travelling and daylight savings and trimesters won't work with my DD starting school . However I was really impressed with them as a Uni!
DOes anyone know how long the national police check takes to get processed?
Who's waiting anxiously for the 3rd of dec for the early round offers??????
-
Me!!!!! im anxiously waiting tho trying very hard not to get my hopes up! im pretty sure i wont get an offer but u never know!
Goodluck with ur 1st shot tomorrow!
Don't know how long the police check takes - have u got ur blue card?
-
Thanks :)
I'm not expecting a place offered next week, but I know i'll be disappointed anyway!
I have a blue card, but it expires this week, so will just wait to reapply for one through the Uni if I get in.
Fingers crossed for you all!
-
Ur lucky u have a blue card - mine expired years ago! now i don't know if to wait to see if i get in than get a student one or to just pay for one?!
-
Mamasupha, I didn't even think about daylight saving . Anyway, I'm going along to check it out. Griffith is still my first preference though.
How awesome would it be to get a early offer on the 3rd December. I don't think I'll get one either though, apparently it's only for certain exceptional applicants and I don't quite think I'm exceptional enough
hj, when do you think you'll give Bianca a sibling/ Will you wait til after your degree?
I wish we could find out how many people have applied to get into BMid or at least if they've already worked out the approx rank/OP cutoffs based on the current applications.
-
Mara - was thinking of waiting until after my degree but not sure if i can wait that long so maybe start trying in second or third year?!
So is that how Griffith is going to work - are they still going to have a OP/RANK for this year based on the applicants? or is that for the next year?
-
I am thinking the same thing re: having another baby. I'm in 2 minds of whether to try this month and if i get a BFP I'll defer uni if I get in or if I don't get preg this coming cycle I think I'll just start uni then try to time having a bub maybe over the xmas break next year or some time in the 2nd year so bub is due after clincials have finished for the year etc. I wonder if being heavily preg would impact on the clinicals as in if the uni would have restrictions once you reached 36 weeks.
All of my friends are getting UTD at the moment (about 6 of them) which is making me very clucky. But then again if I put off getting preg myself I know I've already got a few willing follow-throughs up my sleave for next year ;)
Will anyone else be working part time as well as studying?
There will be a OP/ranking cut off for this intake. it's just because its a new course it isn't known yet. it just depends on how many applicants there were and what their rank/OP was, and that will determine what it will be.
Good luck everyone :crossfingers:
-
Bugga now i really dont like my chances!
Having heaps of friends preg or trying to get preg would make me clucky too so i don't blame you! what happens if we do fall preg and we are due in the middle of the year? how would that work?
I can't offer u advice on when to try and fall preg thats all ur choice but its hard isnt it to decide what to do! im so in 2 minds! ive said from the start that i will wait until end of degree (if i get in) but part of me now dosent want to wait that long!
I think its cause this is something i have wanted to do for awhile now that i dont want to put it off anylonger!
Who know what they would do inregards to clinicals and being preg - but the way i see it we would be pregnant and as long as there isnt any health risk than i can't see why we can't continue for aslong as we want!
-
hj don't lose hope because you never know!
Did you finish grade 12 and get a rank or an OP? Or have you done any type of certifcate studies since leaving school and include those details on your QTAC application? It can all help. If you're not sure what rank you might be you can ring QTAC and they should be able to tell you.
Just to add a little extra food for thought in the do I or don't I TTC next month, when I was driving home from work today I got a text message from my aunty saying that she dream't that I will have a baby boy on 9th August 2010. This aunty though does have a knack for dreaming about babies, she's been proven right on a few occasions. :o So if that were really to happen it prob means I'd fall preg next cycle and that the bub would be born 3 weeks early. Time will tell ;)
-
Mara - i did finish grade 12 however did bad with my OP! And since than i have completed a few Certificates the highest being a CERT IV, and have just finished doing a TPP which i did really well in! I might ring QTAC just out of curiosity to see what my rank is - i think last time i rung them i was told i would be around 74 but that was before doing the TPP! So hopefully it has gone up!
Wow how exciting! i can't wait to see if ur Aunty's prediction comes right! how awesome would that be!
Would u still start Uni or would u defer for a year?
-
hj, I think you'll be in with a good chance! 74 isn't bad and like you said, with doing the prep course it's probably even better.
If I fell preg next month and i got into Uni I'd defer my place for a year.
-
1 more day to go!!!!
Mara - my rank is now 80
-
I know!!!! Trying to keep myself busy today. Going out tonight thankfully, but trying not to think about tommorrow too much (ha!). Will be disappointed if I dont get an early round offer, but not expecting one!
I haven't been able to find out what my ranking is now they've assessed my PCA.
Can't find out until offers go out!
Good luck everyone!
-
Hi Everyone!
hj my ranking is 80 too, based on my grade 12 results.
-
Hi all
I have decided if I get into the BMid at ACU I will defer for a year. I would really love to start it straight away if I get offered a place, but I don't want to put Isabel into daycare and I don't have any other options for care. Even doing part time study I would still need to be on campus at least 2 days a week and I just can't bring myself to leave her in child care when she will be only 5 months old. So that sort of takes the excitement out of finding out if I gotten in! But fingers crossed still!
Re doing clinicals while pregnant - I am fairly sure that you are fine to do it up until 36 weeks and then I think it becomes an issue, mainly for WH&S. I know when I was doing nursing 36 weeks was like the cut off point.
-
mama_supha - u should be able to ring QTAC and they will be able to tell you what your ranking is! im with u on being dissapointed too! i know i wont get first round offer but yet i know i will still be disappointed! oh well!
mara - wooohoo we both got same ranking! LOL
Bon - i hear ya on the child care thing! exspecially at that age! Miss B will be almost 16mths and im still weary about puttin her in childcare!!!
So do we check the QTAC site application tomorrow - is that how we will find out?
