Well I went to my orientation yesterday at UQ. Im doing part time nutrition this year as I'm a single mumma and thats about all that is possible now. When i talked to them last year, they said that its two days for part time. Yesterday I got the timetable, and the minimum I can do is three days, one of those being 9 to 5 out at ipswich so I wouldnt even get back before the dd's childcare closes. And I would have to ask my mum to mind her for the third day which I didn't want to do as she works full time. I don't know what to do now.
I started looking at QUT's timetable for the same course, and for the same subject, its two hours contact time as opposed to about 9! Im on hold to qtac now to see if its possible to change. BUt QUT don't offer part time, you have to enroll full time and drop subjects. The lady I spoke to said they don't recommend it but it does happen.
Plus dd is starting childcare for the first time this week, and I have pms and I just feel like having a big cry.
boohoo
That really sucks! If you can, I'd enrol full time at QUT and then drop half the load - it's no biggie, I did that last semester - went from 4 subjects to 2.
My husband worked for QUT and when I tried to transfer my degree over there (the plan was to move to Brissy) it turned into a nightmare BUT I am pretty sure that they cannot turn down a request for part time...it just means you take less units so the degree is stretched over extra semesters. Talk to more people at the uni about it...course coordinator, student support, head of school etc...I am positive someone will be able to help you out.
It is a very good uni and I cannot help to think that you may have been misinformed.
thank-you for replying.
I have... changed to QUT as my first preference. Then it automatically changes my acceptance to uq to a conditional one, so at least I dont loose that place if I don't get in.
I hope its the right thing to do, I just don't see how UQ is possible. Its a bit scary because I hadnt really looked into the QUT course because its only full time (and now its my first preference) but if I can drop the extra subjects I don't think it should be a problem.
Do you think I should make an appointment to go see someone there now?
Who?
I would suggested the Course Coordinator for the course you're studying and also the Head of School (health? nutrition? I'm not sure what school it goes under). Start with the contacts on your paperwork/letters/confirmation/orientation documents if you have them.
Uni staff are very helpful so call and email and I am sure you will get it sorted.
Also checkout the QUT website for staff contacts if you know what school/learning area you are under.
