Ladies,
Saw your post and just wanted to give all of you big hugs of encouragement. I started uni when my first bubba turned 1, and it was the most exciting, challenging but rewarding thing to do.
The best part was actually having a day where you were an adult, independant, and free for a day, instead of being "Chloe's Mum". I really enjoyed it.
One of the things that disillusioned me was the friend factor, I thought it would be like highschool and have lots of friends! But being an elder student, and part-time, I didn't really click with the 'gangs', and then I realised - I didn't want to either. Just because I had my bubba and family at home, and that is where I wanted to hang out IYKWIM.
I really hope all you ladies get the courses you want and really enjoy uni, or any other study...

TBH, what you mentioned about the friend thing has been bothering me too. Only in a different way... I don't want to go there to make friends, I want to go there to study and to get my degree and do something I am so, so, so passionate about. If I do make friends, I can guarantee there won't be many lol
I enroled in some units via correspondence, once I've completed a certain number i'll be elligible to enrol in a major. I'm actually going to do two majors, one in Sociology and one undecided. When I think about career prospects, I think Community Services or Criminology would compliment Sociology very well. Then when I think of what I really WANT to do, I think of Philosophy or Literature Composition. Eep!

You are right, I had that same mindset at the start too, I didn't want to go just to make friends and hang out, I probably didn't say it right before, I wasn't just going to uni just for the fun factor - ha! It's funny that I had an impression of like, American colleges... I guess the first few weeks were daunting because I was older, had a bubba, still had pre-bubba weight, felt a bit 'dumpy', and there is all these glamazon young things swelling around, and I felt SOOO old. Even though I was 24 when I started. It was just a bit overwhelming, after being 'out-of-the-loop' in baby land for so long. I did hook up with a few of the older students, but like me, they would rather of gone home to bubba then down to the tavern.
It was, overall, a great experience. I (and my family) were so glad I did it, and even though there are late nights and exam fears all over again, the feeling when you get results in is exhilerating! All that hard work! And you are sooooo much more dedicated when you are an older student. Good luck!

Ooh me! I am going to apply to do my dip ed in secondary teaching, but going to the uni open days this weekend to talk to someone about it. I want to have the second baby and get preggers next year so I have to see what option is the best for fitting in the study and the second bubby.... i am excited!!!!!!
I have applied to double BMid/NU degree at UQ Ipswich, I have been doing Cert IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation this year which has been great. Hope all get a spot good luck.

Oh haha yeah, If I get in I'm going to be a total loner I think!
I dont want to go to make friends, I just want to go to learn and then go home and be with my family. The uni I've applied at, I have a few friends who go to that uni, although they're doing completely different degrees to what I've applied for.
I'll be 24 when I start, so I guess I'll be older than quite a few of the others.. although when I went to the open day there were heaps of mature age people when we did the tour of the nursing labs.
ARGH I wish I hadnt applied as soon as the apps opened. The suspense is killing me and its still another 4 months to go.
