Oh, Shazz good luck with the thing you have to write. Is this a special test you have to do for enrty to uni? I hate having to write things like that. Its really not my strong point! Do you get to write it in your own time at home, and then send it in? I suppose you could write about all the marketing crap on TV and how alot of the time you only get to see one viewpoint on a topic. Anyways, good luck with it.
I'm still waiting waiting waiting.. till january to find out of I got in or not.. Going crazy in the time being and trying to work out if I should apply for TAFE as well as I dont like my chances of getting inot uni.
Sushee, were they able to tell you how many places are available for the course you applied for?
I asked at the uni I applied at but they wouldnt tell me :( I agree that the paper tests are a bit crappy. At University of Notre Dame you have an interview and that forms part of your application. I think thats a good idea, but thats the only uni I know of that does it.
-
I think most unis do interviews as part of their mid year intake as you apply to the individual uni but the January intake goes through one central instituition which makes it so much more inflexible. If I don't get the course I want, I'm considering rejecting any subsequent offers and hoping for 2nd round, or alternatively look at mid-year intake instead.
I'm also going to speak to my MIL, who works in Curtin's Health Sciences dept, about how many places there are! Good idea Karina!
-
i'm done and it is registered posted back because of christmas i thought that might be a safer option ohhhh ifeel sick i now have to wait till the 31 st of jan to know whether i get in that is ages away
-
Well done Shazz! Best of luck with it, hun! I sat my STAT in early August and don't find out whether I've gotten in until the 17th of Jan, so I have been waiting ages already! Don't worry, with Chrissy and New Years and Australia Day the time will fly!
-
Good luck Shazz, its hard waiting but with Christmas there should only be a few of those days where you constantly think about it ;)
I had some good news the other day...a friend of a friend was asking about me :) and she was saying how I was waiting for a life changing opportunity lol little did I know she works at the uni ( health and science),I applied for and said with my stat I should get in and they didnt do any early offers. Life is looking ok again :)
Bec
-
Bec, thts great news! See you didnt do that bad after all in your stat! LOL I wish someone could tell me that bout my stat score.
I had forgotten completely about my uni application until I saw this thread pop up gain, lol. Ah well, I think our offers come out on 15th Jan so 24 more days until offers (if I can count, that is). LOL
-
I got a letter in the mail today from UniSA and I got all excited!! So I opened it as I stood at the mail box. Unfortuntely it was just one of those generic letters to say 'thank you for your interest in our uni' and to tell me about the information sessions that are coming up.
ah well. 12 more days till offers. Its unfair they make us wait so long!
-
11 more days til I find out if I have an offer, 14 days til I return to work after 2 years of maternity leave. I don't know if I want to time to go quicker or slower!
-
Hi girls, I am hanging for the offers too, but I have had 2 births in the last 2 days, so have barely had a chance to eat and express, so haven't been thinking too mauch about it other than If I don't get into Mid, I am still in the right profession as a Doula!
I saw my first completely natural waterbirth this morning and am on such a high!
-
Oh how cool, Relle! Those are memories I'm sure will last you a lifetime!
I have to admit having flirted with the idea of doing an doula course when I was pg to Charlie, and even exchanged a few emails with Lisa Chalmers about it. But as much as I respect you ladies who do that fantastic job, I've now gone in a totally different direction, and I'm looking more and more at getting actively involved with infertility advocacy, and my pie-in-the-sky dream atm would be to gain a psych degree with the view of perhaps getting into infertility counselling.
It's funny how you know when you've found what you want to do. You sound completely in love with your work. We should all be so lucky!
-
Absolutely Sushee, when you do finally find "that thing" it just feels so right.
I am looking forward to a long career working with birthing women, whether that is as a Doula or a midwife.
-
I applied and got into the podiatry course at QUT. Quite happy, although I was gearing up for my third choice which was nursing.
Anyone else got their offers yet?
-
Relle, how exciting about the waterbirth! Thats so fantastic that you love being a doula.
Reganelizabeth, congrats on getting into your course! My uni does their offers on 15th of Jan. Argh, its taking so long! I just want to know now. I applied for nursing too.
Sushee, hope you get into your course. only a few more days till you get your offer, yay!
-
Thanks Karina! The wait is quite annoying, I know. Was nursing your first preference? Which uni are you going to?
Nursing definately appears to be popular with the mothers!
-
Our offers come out on the 17th. I applied for BPsych, not the most popular course on BB!
-
Reganelizabeth, I applied at UniSA, for external study. Nursing was my first pref but I also put midwifery as my second even though I have no chance of getting into it but I just wanted to put another preference anyway. I only really applied for external because I didnt have day care available to me. I have just gotten a spot day care though, so if I do get in to uni, I'll probably just do the first year externally then look at applying to another uni to study on campus. I'm in Sydney and there are a few unis here that have nursing.
so, three more days till I get to have another disappointment I think. I'm really not feeling confident at all.
-
Good luck sushee, let us know how you go!
Karina, A friend of mine studying externally through UniSA as well. I did some external study last year. You really have to have a lot of self discipline for it.
And if you don't get in this time, there is always midyear intake. I really wish you all the best though, my fingers are crossed for you!
-
psych is great sushee..I did it. Just be warned it is alot and I mean A LOT of maths during the first three years....... so much of it will be statistics and you have to really really focus on the end goal otherwise it can start to do your head in...happy to trade tips if you like at any time espesh going back as a mature age student I was 34 when I started.
-
mel, I'll be picking your brain for sure! Thanks for the offer. I am pretty good with numbers but obviously a bit rusty after all these years. I love statistics and spreadsheets and collation so hopefully I'll cope. But if not, I'll come crying on your shoulder!
I most definitely have my eye on the prize too, so am hoping that it keeps me motivated. I desperately want to get into infertility counselling eventually, if I'm not too old and grey by then!
-
I've been toying with the idea of doing education for primary(preferably kinder) I currently work in long day care but heading into my 12th year I'm thinking of a change, education would be good the money(childcarers wages are not so great) and the holidays would be good for DD especially when she gets to school age. I just don't know if it would be to close to what I am doing now?
-
just wanted to wish you all the best of luck for your round offers i'll have everything crossed for you
i still have so long to wait another 18 days arrrgggh
-
OMG girls!
I GOT IN!!!!! Midwifery at ACU in Melbourne! I am speechless!!!!
I am sending massive vibes to everyone else - come on!!!!!
-
YAY Relle...that is awesome...... now you just have to get into traspsing into the city everyday mode..hehe
Oh and Sushee. When you get your booklist (and after you pick yourself up off the floor from shock cos psych books are mega mega pricey) give me a hoy cos most of mine are like new and I could do you a deal if you like.
-
OMG Relle - yay yay yay yay yay on geting into Midwifery. I am very very very (have I stressed that enough) excited for you and I know you will make a fantastic midwife!! How cool is that!?!
I have been keeping an eye on this thread to see how you all go with your offers. Good luck to everyone else.
Jem
-
Rellle, congrats!!!!!!!! Thats great news. How exciting!!!
-
Awww thanks Jem! I am pretty excited to say the least.
Yes it has been a long road and an interesting one! Now the fun begins! not!
Thanks Mel - mmm you are close interested in some babysitting duties! lol - Nah I wouldn't really do that to you!
Thanks Karina - your turn next huni!
-
I dunno relle...maybe I could do family day care for you!!
-
well done relle thats fantastic news
-
Relle...Congratulations hun you will be a wonderful student and a fantastic midwife.
How did you get your results early...I'm jelous!!
Still not excited nor confident.
Good luck Karina
Bec
Might go and stalk a few newsagencys to see if any are open
-
Relle, thanks :) will you be studying part time, full time, on campus?
I'm so happy for you!! Yay!! You'll do great, especially with your doula experience. When do you start?
Bec, when can you check your result?
I can check my offer (or lack of offer!!) tomorrow evening. Approx 18 hours and counting, lol. I have no life! Supposed to be going out tomorrow arvo though. I was planning on sitting at the computer ready to log in exactly when offers come out, but I have to go out as the pest control people are coming. Ohhhh I'm so lame!! Maybe I can go to mums house and use her computer.
Blizzz, no I dont think its too similar. Maybe you could even get some credit in an education degree if youve done your childcare diploma? Would you do primary or early childhood education?? I think with an EC degree you can teach up to year 2 as well (thats how it was when I looked into it a couple of years ago), so if you love working with the little ones that might be an option? I'm sure a degree trained person working in a CCC would get paid a little more too. Good luck!
-
Awww Mel, I am only kidding hun, seriously I would never put you through that!
Thanks Shazz!
Bec and Karina - I am wishing you all the very best luck in the world! Make sure you let us know how you go!
Fingers crossed for you girls!
-
Karina...9 am is ours.
20 more minutes LOL I am prepared for no offer so if there is one it will be fantastic
Bec
PS already logged on ready to press refresh
-
Nothing like needing to watch the clock tick down.
Eliza is now screaming that she wants eggs, can I whip them up in 8 minutes I think so
Bec
-
Congratulations Relle! Can I say I am not in the least bit surprised! Shazz, okay your 17 more days is worse than my 2 more days! Lol!
Mel, my DH has put aside book money from our savings for me, he's been warned by his mum that my booklist will be exxy so will definitely be chatting with you about buying over some of your books (if I get in that is!).
BecG, crossing my fingers for you hun! And for you Karina for tonight!
God my mind is in a tizz. Who else is waiting? Good luck all of you! and me too!
-
Sush,
The VTAC site hasnt been updated, I'm sure an IT nightmare and I cant see anything new on it.
So I will have to wait some more until the problem is sorted and the phone line well I could almost of guessed that it was going to be engaged and will be for some time.
My last resort is to ring the university and ask them PMSL
B
-
Oh man! I don't even know exactly when my offers will be coming out on the 17th but I expect the site will crash too with the volume of people logging in. I feel for you Bec!
I believe my MIL has access to who got offers to Curtin (my 1st pref), but of course it's not right for me to ask her to find out if I got one! Aarrgh!
-
hmm 10am still not working Oh Man !! Not good.
Going to take DD out for some sunshine hopefully it will be up by "nap time"
Bec
-
Bec have they updated the VTAC yet??
-
Guys, you are all so lucky to be able to do uni!
I got in a few years back, but working full time and having the little one - by the time i got round to starting my studies it was at least 9pm. when you get up at 5:30 the last thing your mind wants to do at that time is switch off!
The only wasy i could do it would be to only have to work part time. Just sux.
Congrats to all of you who got in!!
-
OMG i got in with a scholarship OMG omg omg
