Wow Mrsmac, he definately didn't respond for a few hours. The day before we did go to a BBQ a a house he has never been before. It is possible that he came into contact with something there but I doubt would take all night to bring up the hives. I just want him tested today but I know there will most likely be a wait.
Well, the GP was much more helpful this morning. I went through everything with him and he agreed we need to do more investigations. Because DS has had Claratine he can't have a skin ***** test until it has cleared out of his system. He did however give us a referral for a RAST blood test.
I took DS to get the test and I just felt so absolutely guilty. Thankfully the nurses were really understanding and held him for me while I cried like a baby. We are home now and the results should be available on Thursday.
If he has an allergy I need to know but at the same time I don't want to know IYKWIM. I just want my baby boy to have a happy and healthy life and I feel as if I'll be a nervous wreck for the rest of my life if it is true. I don't want him to be restricted and to constantly be on alert. I feel sick to my tummy about all this.
awww sweet it is best that you know... I have a referal for my 3 year old to see a pead to be tested for allergies too. For nuts and polyester and elastine. When he was 8 months me and hubbie had to hold him down for blood test and it was awfull so i understand totally how you must have felt.
When DS broke out in that purple rash and we were admitted to hospital, they did all sorts of blood test and canulated him and I couldn't even go in with him, DH had to When everything came back clear I felt sooooo guilty for putting him through that. But you're doing the right thing, it's important that you know.
Spring... you are a strong wonderful mumma and you got through today for Ollie, now matter how- you got through it!! A blood test is a hUGE deal for you- big huge hugs to you!!!!
I had a little thought after reading a little snippet on your ticker... how long ago did ollie start his swimming lessons????? Was this his first contact with chlorine in a pool? And how often does he go for lessons? Just a little thought- could be totally wrong, but maybe worth a look into????
Matilda had the RAST test last year & it was horrible holding her down for it but we got great results. She had a severe reaction to milk and it is how we found out.
SB: He has been in a pool a fair few times and acutally started swimming lessons about a month ago. I don't think it would take that long for him to react but thanks for thinking about possibilities. I will mention it to the GP just to be sure.
Christy: With Matilda, did she ever come out in hives? It is interesting that you mention the milk allergy. Oliver only started having cows milk a month or so and I"ve just increased his consumption to 2-3 sippy cups a day. This has only been in the last week or so. It's really got me thinking as he had a cup of milk before going down for his sleep, I wonder if it's related.
Well I guess the first think is to eliminate the nut allergy (I'm trying to be positive about this) and then continue testing.
Well only about 14 hours until our appointment, not that I'm counting.
