Gawd, you girls can chat, I go to work for the day and need to read 3 pages of threads - love it LOL

Loving your moon CBG - its kinda spooky but beautiful at the same time

It's hot here today so we threw DS in the pool resulting in todays pic

My lens has a damn scratch on it - DOH, I think it happened on Christmas day when people were tidying up all the presents (I had stupidly left it on the floor after taking pictures of DS opening is presents). Anyone know how much it would likely cost to get it replaced? And can I take the lens in and they can just replace the glass rather than the whole lens? I got some filters when I bought the camera but hadn't put one on yet as they gave me the wrong size - double doh!!

I'm so glad you put your links up MN - it always reminds me to go and take a look at your pic of the day. You've had a really warm day today, looks like the pool was a great idea!

I just wanted to share my big excitement of the day/week/month with my photo-taking buddies. A few months ago (actually about 10 initially I think) our computer broken and I thought everything was backed up, so when DH reinstalled the whole system to get it working again we assumed all would be well. Turns out they were only backed up to a certain date and we'd lost all the photos of DD's birth and subsequent first 6 months of life. I was so devastated, I cried and cried. DH was pretty sure that there was nothing we could do, but I searched for a data recovery company and last week while my nephew was here to help carry the computer while I kept DD in line, we took it in to get it looked at. On first view the guy said he wasn't hopeful, but today I went in and picked up all my photos!! It cost me $400 but as far as I'm concerned that was money well spent for those precious memories. I'm sitting here copying the entire HD that they put them on onto my Mac now (10,000 photos!!).

That must be such a good feeling Swoop, I'd be completely devo if we lost our pics, especially of the birth etc. I have ours backed up on an external hard drive, but have thought about getting an 2nd one incase the first one ever malfunctions. I do upload all my fav pics on FB though, so at least they are in cyber space if needed which is a kind of insurance policy. I had well over 5000 at last count, I reckon it would be closer to 8-9000 now (OMIGOD) as we photograph EVERYTHING hehehe and I certainly haven't uploaded all of those to FB.

Glad the link is helpful. Cos I am using a different site (and its too late to change now), I have bookmarked the 365 sites so I can easily check all of everyone elses out

Yeah, it is a great feeling. It was the birth ones more than anything else coz I knew we hadn't put any of them on fb or shared them with anyone else so they were definitely gone. Eeek, just had a look and iPhoto is saying there are 23,000 photos!! I still have another couple of thousand to copy too. I think some are copies as there was extensive damage and they could only get raw files and I'd noticed there was a lot of duplicates and tiny files etc, but still Ohmigod indeed! I think a second back up is a mighty fine idea!!

I've got a broken lens here MN that my dad gave me, I keep meaning to take it to the camera shop to see if they can do anything with it. If I do it anytime soon I'll let you know incase it's similar.

What kinda camera have you got?

Just read the rest of that. Definitely get a clear filter to go over the lens that fits to stop any future scrapes because the lens will cost mega bucks to replace the glass. You'll probably be better off just buying a whole new lens.
