*ANG*: Technically speaking you shouldn't really do much editing with JPG's. Each edit damages the file. If you really want editing power, full creativity and the ability to edit freely, you want to work with RAW images and a program like Lightroom or Aperture.
But outside of that, you might also look to see if Google's Picasa has the tools you are looking for. But I will encourage you to work towards camera RAW and a good program like Lightroom or Aperture.
