We'll be going in the New Year. Just a tip, don't go on the weekend if you can help it - for all of the bigger exhibitions the queues are unbelievable on Saturday and Sunday (too close for all of us Sydneysiders to drive down!). Another tip is that if you join the gallery as a member you often get enough of a discount on entry to make the joining negligible. And members don't have to wait in the long queues, if you do go on the weekend.
It goes for several months, so I wouldn't head down in the early stages unless that's the only time you can possibly make it. We'll be waiting either until the school holidays are over or towards the end at least.
I am so looking forward to going though - all of the others we've seen there have been wonderful!
