How best to store digital images?

Does anyone know the best way to store digital images for longevity?

I currently use CDs/DVDs best am thinking that computers may move away from having disk drives - some are moving to Bluray now! CD/DVDs can also be scratched, get mouldy and otherwise damaged.

I can't keep all our precious photos on the hard drive forever.

Would using USB sticks be better?

What do you use?

What do professionals recommend?

I guess no one else has thought about the longevity issues with using CDs to back up photos?

I store all my photos on CD...but have often wondered the same thing...will keep an eye on this thread.
